@StinVec So after reading what you said, I realized this all may just be an intricate anet ploy to discover the weakest faults in their game while avoiding heat from players as they argue amongst themselves.

I’m pretty sure this is anets way to ask their players what type of content they want. Completely new lore, or to better expand on old lore.

ONE SMALL PATCH for a few code lines Arenanet!

Right.

Not nearly, since minipets are currently counted as a collectible they’d have to be either redefined as a different object or anet has to set all of them to be excluded from deposit all collectibles. redefining them all would be the easiest in the long run but excluding them all would still keep them as collectibles and keep their slot in the collections tab.

It’s used for multiple asura story missions. Depending on the mission it connects to different places.

I’d think a ‘armor slot’ similar to the old hat or costume slot in GW1 would be ideal. Perm equiped mini of choice, with an auto deploy option so its always on. Would make everybody happy, unless they were trying to carry 3 or 4 to swap out.

I like to use the same mini between a few characters so a perm equip would be bad for the unique ones like the holiday ones.

But I do agree they shouldn’t deposit when you click deposit all, and auto deploy when entering a map.

I agree… but…

First It’s IMPERATIVE that they give their players some sort of /bugged switch or something that when cast by a majority of nearby players around the Dynamic Event, triggers it to restart itself or force itself to start when it’s clearly stuck. ..The Northern Pact route in Straits of Devastation for example has been getting stuck every night since 2 patches ago and they’re not addressing it.

Every major patch brings atleast a few of these bugs up when there’s no logical explanation for it and no evidence that their Live team even touched any of the triggers for those events. They seem to just break on their own after certain patches and their whole Test Krewe only seems to be PvP’ers so any Balance problems or Show-Stopping bugs just go right through their testing process b/c no one’s looking for them.

That’s just the nature of any program. One line of code wont agree with something else and will break something completely unrelated. It takes time to find and fix these bugs.

Your preferred play style is melee, but somehow the Warrior (high DPS, heavy armour) or Guardian (medium DPS, nice healing, heavy armour) isn’t your thing? Well, those are actually the only two classes that can easily melee something, the others will have to kite way more not to get too much dmg on them..

Advice here to give: experiment.. You have 5 character slots, feel free to create a toon and head to PvP (to unlock all skills and stuff) and see if you could love their skills/playstyle/…

I take offense to that. I melee just fine on my mesmer. Really though the base warrior sucks, what matters is your traits, both skills and points. You can build any class to be tanklike (some are better than others) or really strong. You just have to experiment with traits and find a build you like. Though you might try stepping out of your comfort zone, you might find you enjoy a class.

You have to understand what anet was going for. They wanted every player to experience the war, not just the few that were playing at launch, because not every player has defeated the centaurs. It’s like what you said with the risen that they keep spawning after you defeat zhaitan even though they technically couldn’t. Other players will go through that area that havent defeated zhaitan and they’re the hero of the story.

It’s impossible to have a world that actually changes with you as you play in any open world game, much less an MMO. It all has to be programmed into the game, they have to plan for every single thing you would do. And with thousands of players you can’t code for everything they might or might not do.

Why not have deeper and more engaging DE’s that help tell the story of the LS? i.e. Telling the story through gameplay, not cut scenes.

They tried that at first, having one time events, but many people complained, myself included. I have to go to work so I have to miss this one time event so I can eat. Again, great idea of paper, doesnt work in execution.

Anyways, think about it, even if Thaumanova Reactor fractal loses, ANet will more than likely come up with a new Asuran experiment-esque mission/fractal/dungeon, since the Asura are such a big part of the game, whilst, if FoA loses, it’s pretty unlikely we’ll ever get to see it, or anything even close to it.

You dont get it then. Yeah if thaumanova loses we might see some other asura dungeon, but they wont have the lore that thaumanova has surrounding it.

All the people saying the thaumanova reactor will just be another boring asuran dungeon don’t know anything about the lore and arnt giving it the credit it deserves.

Not knowing the lore of the area and the area not having lore are not the same thing.

That sounds great on paper, if mobs can capture key areas and you have to take them back from the mobs, but it doesn’t work so great in practice.

Imagine that the centaurs manage to push all the way through to queensdale and then take queensdale, well that’s the starting area, now a new player is starting in an enemy controlled area. So what, most of the waypoints are contested and doing any renown heart turns into a real pain in the kitten because you not only have the mobs for the renown heart, you have the centaurs to deal with too; and then what happens over the years when the game loses popularity? Yeah people will still play it but not nearly as many. Most people will be level 80 and focusing on end game content. Then you have this new player that comes in to try the game and has to take on the almost entire centaur controlled queensdale by himself because none of the level 80s care about a low level area like that. And with how farmable queensdale is, maybe it’ll never get like that with dalies, but what about wayfarer foothills? Who really goes there, and if you go there, do you ever go to the level 5 area there? No you dont.

The war with the centaurs is done. Through the dynamic events you can see what happened. With the influx of new recruits and volunteers (the players) the centaurs slowly got pushed back from queensdale to their home, harathi hinterlands and ultimately defeated. Very few centaurs actually survived and some seeing their race nearly destroyed have tried to make peace as evident by presence of the centaur ambassador in LA. Most centaurs still resent humans and want to fight but realize that if they continue fighting they will face extinction.

TL;DR if you look closely enough you actually end two wars in GW2.

Although officially stated, I’m really not buying into the “we won’t do both fractals” comment. You have a development team tossing several fractal concepts around. They pick the two best ideas they could come up with and then tell us to vote on a winner out of those two choices.

Eventually they’re going to want to add even more fractals. Do you really think the previous #2 pick is not going to come up for consideration again? That they’ll purposely shoot themselves in the foot by refusing to acknowledge their prior top-2 ideas? I can hear them now: “Let’s choose our third favorite idea, because #2 didn’t win the vote and now we must spite the players and make sure they never have it”.

I’m pretty sure if players cry consistently enough about it, they’ll add it in. I’m less concerned about the fractal choice and more interested in voting based on the type of character I’d rather put my vote behind – which means not voting for that thieving businessman Gnashblade.

Maybe they’ll put out a story to explain what would be explained in the other fractal. I mean it’s already on paper right?

If I described both Fractals to a child, they’d easily choose Abaddon. That’s how simple this really should be.

That explains why the support for Evon has been so fervent. :P

Oh you’re so funny. /clap

Hell i’d choose abaddon if you explained it to me the way you explain the abaddon fractal with no knowledge coming in.

Would you rather have the insanely epic fight against a god; or some boring inquest kitten that we’ve seen a million times?

Just because you talk about it and make it sound exciting and the other one like complete crap doesn’t make it proof of anything. Here I can do it too.

Would you rather see some guy who we already know dies, die, or would you like to explore a high tech dungeon that blew up and is tearing the very fabric of reality in pieces with its aftermath?

Us Kiel supporters just don’t blow up the facts to make ourselves look better. No one can say for sure what was in the thaumanova reactor is, we don’t know. As opposed to abaddon which, while we don’t know all of, we have a basic idea of. There could be anything in the thaumanova reactor, if you don’t convince yourself it’s crap ahead of time. It’s harder to come up with an argument for the thaumanova reactor because it’s new lore that we don’t know. But it’s new lore. You people vote for Evon, and then you’re the same people that complain that GW2 has no new lore it’s introducing even though you tell anet you just want them to explain what’s already there.

That’s really what we’re voting on, which direction do we want the game to go in? Do we want new lore that could be anything and further the world, or do we want to further explain old lore that hasn’t really been expanded upon?

Correction: He doesn’t die in the Fall of Abaddon.

And just because it’s not new lore doesn’t mean it’s not pertinent to the present-day in GW2. I think it’s very pertinent and putting Abaddon in GW2 gives the person who never played GW1 some idea as to why things happened the way they did, events that clearly affect the GW2 we know now.

The Reactor might have scarce details, but I cannot imagine it looking or even playing any differently than the type of Asuran tech we have already witnessed, in both games. I personally don’t want to see more of that, if it means discarding the idea of seeing a war of the gods 1000 years prior to GW1’s storyline.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to see key points in Tyrian history. Nothing. Guess what else we never got to see? The founding of Ebonhawke. You’d think that with such important key characters as Gwen and Keiran and the Ebon Vanguard, we should be able to see what they endured when they were sent south. There are plenty more just like that, events that we never actually got to witness, or even see something like concept art.

I’d also like to point out that the Bonus Mission Pack in GW1 was one of the most brilliant things that Arena ever gave us. I enjoyed it thoroughly, as did many others. It brought us back to important times in history we had only previously heard about, but never saw anything for. In addition I found the gameplay pretty fun. If the retelling of events past was not criticized back then, why is it now?

I know he doesn’t die, that was my point.

The reason i’m against the retelling of past events is because it’s a different game, sure it takes place in the same world, and yes the fall of abaddon was important to shaping tyria today, but what are you really going to learn from it that will change the story? Abaddon has already been killed. The thaumanova reactor is happening in current day tyria and all we know is it’s tearing a hole is reality. Sure right now it’s contained to a few areas of the world, but what if it spontaneously grew? How will more information on the fall of abaddon help you then? I’m a big ancient history fan I studied the greek myths in school as a hobby, I get how it’s interesting, but what’s more interesting is the things we don’t know at all.

Here’s some of the facts:
TLDR:
The 4 weeks doesn’t truly matter. Deals a deal, vote for what truly counts. Permanent Content
Abbadon: We get to see new stuff, discover things we’ll never see again since they’re in the past. Including a God. King Doric. And the Crystal Sea.
Reactor: Seeing the same stuff, and seeing things that will eventually get explained no matter what.

Your “facts” seem to be nothing but an awful lot of speculation.

Here’s a real “fact” :

..I’m hoping for Kiel. But I have a vested interest because my team will probably be working on the fractals. I had nothing to do with this content though.

To shed some light on my bias, our team brainstormed up a bunch of fractals for you guys to pick from and then we settled on the best two. I got pretty excited about Thaumanova, given what we intend for it to entail so I’m Kiel supporter all the way.

Abbadon will also be great if Evon wins though.

Sorry, but he sounds way more excited about the Thaumanova Reactor. I like the obligatory consolation prize pep-talk about Abbadon at the end.

You crack me up. You quoted this one dev to me and now to this fellow. That’s not a fact. That’s an opinion. The players are deciding what is going to happen, not that dev. Your ONLY argument against anyone advocating why Evon is the better choice is this dev’s quote.

Oh, and as for your “lot of speculation” thing. That post is actually full of real hard facts. Not speculation. And based on what we know about the lore of both the reactor and Abaddon, that is probably one of the best arguments anyone’s laid forth in this thread thus far.

You’ve managed to completely miss the point.

Nobody is arguing that we know something about the lore of both the reactor and Abaddon. What you have zero clue about, however, is what a fractal instance on either would entail. Any assumptions about either is speculation.

What we do actually know for a fact is that one of the developers that will be working on the fractals is “..pretty excited about Thaumanova, given what (they) intend for it to entail..”.

So, you can sit there and write a 50 page case study on why you believe “fractal reactor = yawn” and “fractal Abaddon = best thing since sliced bread”, but in the end you’re just speculating (with great bias, I might add) and not putting forth anything factual. In fact, such speculation flies completely in the fact of the one fact you do actually have about these two fractals: that a developer is pretty excited about their plans for a Thaumanova fractal, describing it as one of the two best ideas they’ve come up with for new fractals.

If that to you screams “yawn”, then you’re being a) silly and b) ridiculously biased. Try making an argument that doesn’t involve spinning opinions as facts.

Okay buddy, but guess what, that’s ONE developer’s OPINION.
ONE developer.
He might be more excited about the Reactor fractal, but that doesn’t mean that the Abaddon fractal is nothing to be excited about.
Have we heard from another developer comparing the two and stating which they’re more excited about?
Until I actually see some more developers coming out and talking about what THEY think is the better fractal, your argument by using this developer’s words is baseless at best.

And let me just point out that Anthony Ordon was not on the development team during the original Guild Wars, so I feel that naturally he’s not going to be as excited about Abaddon in a Fractal. I mean, it makes sense, doesn’t it?

He was on the team that came up with the idea for both fractals, and favors the reactor over abaddon.

Why? ugghhh… it’s asura. Do whatever with gods, isn’t that the point of some higher power that apparently controls and owns everything?

2. With the Abbadon fractal, Anet has a chance to offer something so incomprehensibly important, changing, and new to the lore. Ooooooo…

These responses are what I see on the forums and in game all the time. You all have already convinced yourself that the Fall of Abbadon fractal will suck.

While in reality, the abaddon fractal will just be a huge battle where the face of the earth is changed forever. While the thumanova reactor fractal could be anything, including another boring asuran experiment gone wrong or just a big explosion and a boss fight. All we know is that whatever was being researched at thaumanova has torn a hole in the fabric of reality and is porting in creatures from across space and time.

I enjoy the general gameplay, the story, and I have guildmates that can listen to me complain about everything else. The process of leveling is fun for me.

Guardian might be the class you’re looking for if you’re looking for healing/support. A staff guardian has a bunch of skills to buff and generally help the party. and the virtues, which are the unique class feature for guardians, can be activated to give your allies buffs as well.

I know that for me, the class I ended up making my main was the last class I tried.

For the traits, yeah it’s hard to see the potential for a class you don’t have an idea of what you want to build for, or even don’t like the builds for. I usually don’t even go off a build when I make a character, I find which weapon combination I like to play, and then build my traits to fit that play style instead of adapting my play style to fit my traits. It just takes some know how on what play styles need which traits, even within the same class. A ranger using a 1h sword wants as much toughness as they can get and should trait into that, while a ranger using a shortbow doesn’t need as much toughness but might want condition damage and pet attribute points. I also rarely build a character based on trait skills, I look at what stats the character needs to be effective, and then trait for the stats and pick the skills that best suit my play style from the stats i’ve chosen.

Have we ever known which fractals are what specifically? All we know is what the urban battleground fractal is.

This time we know what we’re going into.

It will give us a glimpse into lore (Either something we know or something we dont). Some people actually like the lore in the game.

Alternate worlds. We’ve already seen they exist in the asura infinity ball path, and none of my two characters are in the world at the same time, because that’s impossible.

The gameplay

  • For the arena, there should be multiple arenas just because the same arena gets stale eventually, for any game. (Just a suggestion and not a complaint as the game is still new)
  • The arena needs to be larger, the current size of the arena combined with the current skills makes it nearly impossible to actually stop crystal carriers before they reach their base and get the crystal turned in. You pretty much have to be there right when they pick up the crystal and hope they don’t know how to properly use their skills or you have about 3 people attacking one carrier.
  • The game should be decided by a point system (like first to 500 or 1000), without the time limit or with a significantly higher time limit. With the mechanics of the game, this will ensure that the opposing team can still come back if they fall behind.

The bugs
This is just a list of bugs i’ve spotted while playing.

  • Sometimes when pressing a button to activate a skill, the cooldown will trigger but the skill won’t fire, usually when targeting a person out of range but sometimes just in general
  • When tabbing between players, sometimes your target won’t switch
  • When using the air aspect’s 3, dodge rolling out of the skill reduces the cooldown to 3 seconds
  • The lightning aspect’s 4 can be dodge rolled and light dashed through
  • Sometime the sun aspect’s 4 randomly wont pull in a few players that are in range.
  • sometimes the air aspect’s 2 can hit you more than once, causing a longer knockdown
  • If stunned while doing the air aspect’s 4, the ball will disappear. (Either directly from using the ball or from using another skill while waiting for the ball to come down)
  • Sometimes skills just wont activate when you hit them (No idea why this happens)
  • The sun aspect’s 1 will not trigger the lightning aspect’s 3 after the shield is activated
  • Assisted leap can be used to quickly get up from being knocked down and avoid damage. (The skill activates and then when you land you’re back up.)
  • If a player jumps off a cliff or is knocked off a cliff, even though the text pops up saying you got a kill, it is not counted.
  • Sometimes the minimap will bug out and display the texture for an unexplored region of the map. I have encountered this bug in every minigame dating back to mad king’s day
  • Light dash makes you invulnerable to everything, including things you logically shouldn’t be invulnerable to
  • Light dash makes a crystal carrier go at normal boosted speed while using it.
  • Lightning Pull makes a crystal carrier go at normal boosted speed while using it.
  • The air aspect’s 3 makes a crystal carrier go at normal speed while using it.
  • Dodge rolling makes a crystal carrier go at normal dodge roll speed during it.
  • Light Dash’s duration can be extended by holding down the button (Not sure if bug)
  • The sun aspect’s 4 hits players through a dodge roll as long as they stay in range (Even during the roll).
  • While using lightning pull if the player hits something along the way, once the player gets unstuck on the object if the jump is still going, they go farther than the targeted area.
  • The sun aspect’s 1 heals for 3 HP instead of 2 HP like the tooltip states.
  • The sun aspect’s 1 heals allies in an area around the target instead of in the line of the skill like the tooltip says
  • The sun aspect’s 3 say it aids allies in the field but there are no visible effects on the player while standing inside.

Overall the minigame is a great addition and needs tweaking but has potential as it is now.

Rainbow Sprint.3215

I have seen a lot of threads complaining about things in the aspect arena, this is op, that is broken. Whatever. But none really go into why it’s unbalanced, just that it is. So I thought i’d make a thread laying that out there for anet to take and make the game better, if it’s going to be a permanent addition.

So let me say first, I have gotten every achievement for the minigame and have been the top player in kills with each aspect multiple times. My favorite aspect to use is the lightning aspect.

So first up is the aspects:
The Air Aspect
I assume air is meant to slow and stop the enemies movement from the skills, as opposed to getting kills.

  • The auto is fine as it is.
  • The second skill is good though it should pull the enemy towards you instead of push them away from you. It can be used for stopping enemies as it is but if it’s done wrong it ends up helping the target.
  • The third skills cooldown is a little on the short side, even without the bug of dodge rolling out of it to reduce the cooldown. It doesn’t seem to encourage being tactical in the game. It also takes you back up to full speed while using it if you’re carrying the crystal, I assume this is also a bug.
  • The forth skill is fantastic and encorages paying attention to what your skills do and your surroundings as opposed to just spamming your skills.
  • The fith skill seems a bit underwelming as a movement skill since sun and lightning can be used to move faster with the orb (Get to that in their section) while assisted leap can’t help movement at all. Though it can be used as a fast way to get up from knockdown; i’m assuming that wasn’t intended but if it’s kept it would give in an edge and a use in combat like the other aspects have in their movement skills.

The Sun Aspect
What I assume the sun aspect to be for is utility and support, again based on its skills.

  • The auto skill is ok damage wise but I feel the range is a little too long to me. I think the range should be reduced to 900 from 1200.
  • The second skill is a little lacking. The AOE blind is a neat idea and makes sense for sun, but in practice it doesnt work with the people spamming skills. I suggest the blind be replaced with weakness or confusion 3-4 seconds in duration.
  • The third skill is a good idea but should remove the slow caused by the air auto in addition to what it already does.
  • The forth skill is good as it is, though the tooltip needs to state you can collapse it early by pressing the button again.
  • The light dash is terrible for the game. It’s good in theory but you can easily traverse the small arena with it. If you have the crystal you will still go normal light dash speed and you can easily get away from any pursuers. It works like a dodge roll in that you’re immune to everything and can move through lightning barriers. This skill should not make you immune to the lightning barriers, nor immune to sun’s blackholes or air’s tornado if you are still in the path of the skill. In addition, none of the movement skills should be able to be used while you hold the crystal, I didn’t mention it with air because it really doesn’t help for movement of the crystal but it’s not the end of the world if air suffers a little because of this.

The Lightning Aspect
The lighting aspect, to me, is the one meant for combat, the front line fighter that is meant to kill players.

  • The auto is fine as it is.
  • The second skill is fine as well
  • The third skill is fine as well, although it seems when players are using the sun auto against it, they dont trigger the stun but also don’t cancel out the shield.
  • The forth skill is also very good for what the lightning aspect is meant to do, just the sun being able to move through is bad. You can also dodge roll out of it with the right timing. I haven’t mastered the timing but I have done it to know that it’s possible.
  • The movement skill, lightning pull, is much better than the rest of the aspects, like it was in the zephyr sanctum and in sanctum sprint. Due to it both being a higher jump and a long movement skill. For all the movement skills i’m not really complaining how they work, just how they work with the game. Though the game does make areas where you cant use lighting for something air or sun could do, unlike in the zephyr sanctum or sanctum sprint where lightning could do the same thing as both air and sun. Again this movement skill makes you move at the increased speed without the crystal, with the crystal. And again this movement skill shouldn’t be able to be used with the crystal in hand.

In addition, I think it would be nice if when the crystal is picked up, it becomes a specific crystal attuned to the aspect of the person that picked it up. Encouraging people to play all the aspects with the current way of having to turn in all three crystals before being able to start over on crystals being turned in.

Read your tooltips. Sun’s auto does 2 damage at long range, and increases when you get closer.

I do agree that aspect arena needs some work, but it has potential as a good minigame.

Rainbow Sprint.3215

I’m tired of characters stealing all the credit for my hundreds of hours of work. Evon has never done that so I’d probably vote for him. He is also an actual pirate who likes treasure, which seems important for a pirate election.

Evon would be more likely to do that than kiel and would probably do it for every little thing.
