The minotaurs are no more than mindless beasts. The Jotun however are sentient creatures. That alliance makes no sense but neither did the krait and the nightmare court, or the dredge and the flame legion.

Yes you can do that.

You need 2 Transmutation Crystals though.

Get the starter shoulders, now buy one set of white quality shoulders from TP and transmute the looks over to the new shoulders stats.

The transmutation window will say soul bound but they become account bound. You can now transmute the looks to any other set of shoulders of different qualities.

He only needs one crystal unless he already has the item transmuted into a level 80 item. The basic item is level 1 but is soulbound. You can use a transmutation stone to get soulbound status off the item, the crystal is only needed to transmute it into a level 80 item.

To the people disappointed by missing new encounters/games at Wintersday and by missing promised features.

There is still the release of December 24th waiting for us where they could add some surprising stuff dealing with Wintersday or even Scarlet.

This release could also bring some of the missing topics from the roadmap 2013.

Also they warned us that precursors and legendary jewelry could be postponed.

I dont remember hearing about legendary jewelry but I think it was said that craftable precursors are being pushed to early 2014. Dont feel like tracking down the post though.

Well they could do something different in tixx’s airship, but it looks that way. I wasnt aware the snowball game was popular enough to bring it back, everyone I ever talked to hated the game along with myself. It looks like they’re giving LA a better makeover than last year, unless that’s concept art.

Just because it’s the same description doesnt mean it’ll be exactly the same. I mean just because they included the mad king in halloween doesnt mean it was exactly the same.

Plus you’ll never have things like my toymakers bag (I assume) or my 200 mystical cogs that tixx gave out when he first appeared in LA last year.

When they say someone we have already met, i’m assuming they mean someone our characters have already met. So it’s not scarlet, we hadn’t met her until she showed up for the jubilee.

It will be the same person for everyone so it will be someone from the PS that everyone has met. So that leaves 3 choices. It’s either one of the order’s commanders that we met retaking claw island, one of the DE members, or Treherne.

And I hear Caithe has a secret…

Racial Builds-Better Gameplay?

a special racial class would be neat but all the races should have one.

Like a shaman for norn (with a choice of bear, wolf, raven, or snow leopard), golemancer for asura, legionnaire for charr, warden for sylvari, and hmm… humans dont really have an npc class that represents them like that. Well i’m sure anet could come up with something for humans.

For Human I’d say a special summoning skill which let’s you summon mini Gods in Spirit Form who do special damage to enemies via what they’re known for (Balthasar-Fire, Dwayna-Water, etc) at the cost of something, like maybe immobilisation on the main character… That’s what I’m thinking considering the main character will be OP without the immobilisation or something.
Second idea is to have Elementalist-Type Summoned Weapons for each God, so a huge fiery Axe for Balthasar, etc.

But if the other races get an entire class and humans only get a few skills, wont all the humans feel shafted?

I know humans get everything, the armor and weapons are designed for them, they have the only good racial skill already, and a majority of the game + LS is dedicated to humans, but they still are the majority. Anet cant just exclude them like that.

The only reason I say I don’t know what to do for humans is because humans dont have a major allied npc class. There are already shamans of the spirits in the game. You see members of a legion all the time. Golemancers are not only allies (and some enemies) but are well known to be a part of asura culture. Sylvari wardens can be seen in game throughout caledon forest (although now that I think of it, Valiant might be a better class name for a sylvari racial class).

Humans though, they don’t have a group like that. The ones I can think of off the top of my head are the lionguard or the ebon vanguard. Though maybe having a class called fallen angel has some potential, it’s a cool name for a class.

The real challenge for anet would be how would these classes work. I’d put them more of a jack of all trades kinda class, they can use any weapon or armor effectively but would need to trait into that weapon or armor.

You know the more I think about the idea of a racial class the more i’m starting to like it…

zerg is a large group of players sticking together to take down champions or enemy camps and towers in WvW.

As for dungeons I can only think of a couple of terms that are used often.

LFG = looking for group, solo players that want to run the dungeon.

LF(x)M = looking for <number> more, a group thats already started that needs that many more for a full party. The max party size is 5 players.

Dungeon master is a specific title you get for completing every dungeon path in the game

Pug = a solo player not part of a group, used when some of the players in the group are in the same guild or are friends to refer to other players. The term doesn’t mean the players don’t have skill or cant complete the dungeon but a lot of the players that don’t roll with a guild usually are more inexperienced.

Story = a group doing the story mode of the dungeon in question

P1, 2, 3, or 4 = the dungeon path in the explorable mode of the dungeon, usually players decide when forming the group what path they are going to do

These all below refer to the specific dungeon. The explorable mode is always 5 levels above the level of the story mode. Most people prefer you’re level 80 for the explorable mode of a dungeon.
AC = Ascalon catacombs
CM = Caudecus’s Manor
TA = Twilight Arbor
SE = Sorrow’s embrace
CoF = Citadel of Flame
HotW = Honor of the Waves
CoE = Crucible of Eternity
Arah = The Ruined City of Arah

Are humans most advanced killers in Tyria?

in Lore

Rainbow Sprint.3215

Humans are good at Scorched Earth tactics. If we can’t have our land, no one can! If we go down, we’ll take you with us!

If all humans are Margonites and Abaddon is fighting ahead of us, we won’t need to scorch earth. Charrs are the ones that will be scorching earth.

Even elder dragons will tremble in fear when they see us.

So similar to how Balthazar commanded the humans to essentially commit genocide on all the races of tyria and claim the land for themselves, and then left when things got tough. (I know this isn’t exactly true). “It was Balthazar who urged humanity to engage the other races in battle and claim the world for themselves, believing the other races would fall easily.” So invaders from another world come and try to wipe out all opposition, but they fail and instead claim and settle in the lands they have conquered and you expect the native races of this world to not hold a grudge, hmmm.

Not our fault the gods dumped us here. For all the we know the gods were aliens who kidnapped us from earth and dumped us on Tyria as some sort of wicked experiment. And because they were so advanced they might seem as gods to us.

In any case, we do not know anything about the origins of humanity. All we know is that they came from somewhere else.

So the confusion and disorientation, as well as possible memory loss led you to take up weapons and massacre all native species…until you could kill them no more (“in all honesty my sword arm was getting tired”). shame on you (for defending this kind of behavior)

So you put words in my mouth and ask me to justify them?

Nice try.

Humans wage war for the same reasons other races wage wars. The one thing I hate about GW2 is that humans are suddenly portrayed as the big badguys and every other race is a victim of their cruelty.

please…

Of course humans are at the top of the food chain. We’re humans, we have a vested interest. It’s the lowest common denominator, not everyone cares about plant people, or beast men, or gremlins.

Grasping vines might possibly be useful at some point but the ranger version of the skill is a better version. Hounds is the only racial skill i’d ever consider seriously using in battle. And there have been times where I have swapped out my elite for hounds, even as a mesmer, with the best elite in the game, I still consider hounds a viable choice.

Sylvari, ultimate fighting race?

Rainbow Sprint.3215

I’m going to hunt down this conversation before making a full reply (around Guardian Stone, is it?) but I would like to point out that Nightmare harms nature, not defends it. Just go and take a look at Kessex Hills- once a fantastically beautiful zone, one of my favorite in the game, now largely a blasted landscape reminiscent of Orr.

Well, I would blame Scarlett for that, but for what i have gathered, the only reason the nightmare behaves as “evil” is solely because they are trying to “break free” from the Ventari teachings, only then will they be pure and able to know their true purpose.

Perhaps they werent meant to be “good”, perhaps they werent meant to “protect” nature, what is they are nature, and you want to retake everything back, all the suffering the six gods and the charr and the asura have done to Tyria.

Sounds to me like Aylvari are truly the ultimate battling race, they are even immune to dragons.

The nightmare court at their core arnt “evil”. I assume they took the name nightmare due to the presence of the hive mind that was already called the dream.

The nightmare court want the freedom of not only themselves, but of their entire race from something that seems unjust to them. The higher ups in the nightmare court, from what i’ve seen anyway, are reasonable sylvari that you could hold a conversation with.

We really don’t know that much about the nightmare court anyway. I doubt they could take over the world because of the other races; but are the nightmare court truly evil, or are they just evil because the pale tree tells you they’re evil?

The dream isnt a full on hive mind. The sylvari don’t share experience, and they’re only taught the basics while they’re in their pods; seeing as how they have to go back to the pale tree for advice, i’d say the link weakens after they awaken. Like for example the sylvari PCs wyld hunt was to kill a dragon, yet the sylvari pc didnt awaken knowing everything Trahearne knew about Orr. Sure we could make the argument that maybe Zhaitan wasn’t the dragon in the dream, but the sylvari PC still doesnt awaken with the knowledge Sieran or any of the other sylvari in the other orders would know about that dragon.

Just at a passing glance it looks roughly the same. Asura finds person, they fall in love, make love, have a kid if applicable, and keep living their lives.

As for the thing about asura being attracted to anyone of any gender, I would imagine that’s a lot like us too. Some are, some arnt. Unbind Crystals

in Suggestions

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

Unbinding crystals would make the whole point of things being “Soul bound” completely null, unless they make these crystals something ridiculous like, say, 3000+ gems.

If anything, maybe make it so when you salvage a legendary you get the precursor and some rare mats from making it, that way you can get some profit.

That or.. you know, only make legendaries for characters you intend to play.

soulbound is a worthless system anyway. Get rid of soulbound and make all things account bound. It wont change much except making these expensive items usable on multiple characters, which it’s not like ewe’d be using more than one at a time anyway. seeing that they’re on the same account.

They’d still be bound so you cant use an item and then sell it to the AH, but you’d be able to transfer it between characters encouraging alts and getting players more playtime out of the game (That means they stick around longer instead of quitting because they’re bored of their class but it has their legendary and all their good stuff on it), and players will for the most part buy different sets of armor for all their characters. With different builds and such plus the convenience of not having to go to the bank and transfer your armor over whenever you like to switch characters. There will be a few die hards out there that commit to spending as little money as possible and operate on one armor set, but a majority of people will still buy armor and weapons for each character. Even with the simple change to making everything account bound that was soul bound, for level 80 items like a legendary or something that you get for the skin, you would still need transmutation crystals to give it the stats you want on for a different character, possibly driving up the sales of the transmutation crystals as people can now create alts without having to give up those items (Not to mention character slots, bank space, and bag slots)

TL;DR

Pros of account bound items

  • Encourage alts to improve playtime of game, lifespan of game, enjoyment of game, and time players stay and potentially buy more gems
  • Encourage players to buy more bank space, bag space for new characters, town clothing, gem store armors, and/or character slots
  • Encourage the sell of transmutation crystals for transferring more expensive items between characters and getting proper stats for that character as well as armors for new characters
  • Little change to current coin economy

Cons to account bound items

  • A small percentage of people will probably use this to share armor and items between characters so they don’t have to buy new stuff for each character
  • Less market to use the bug to account bind skins from armor/weapons that are soul bound (and 1 sale of a bag slot or bank slot would cover like 6 of those lost sales, with it being more for a character slot.)

I must be missing something as to why anet hasnt already done this.

So the Fall of Abaddon is a better story than a story we haven’t even seen yet? Glad you can read the future then. Tell me what else you know about in that crystal ball of yours.

Again, anyone with any critical thinking skill could tell you the story of Thaumanova reactor.

1. Inquest sabateurs
2. Some McGuffin plot device “Chaos Magic”
3. Reactor goes Chernobyl
4. Scarlet is revealed to be the mastermind

That’s really all there is to it.

GW2 NEEDS some more connections to GW1. The devs need to stop trying to make GW2 have absolutely nothing to do with its own lore history.

Been saying that since the voting began months ago and to this day I can’t believe people voted for Evon. Couldn’t agree with your entire post more.

Yes GW2 should just be an updated GW1, we wouldn’t want the sequel to be its own game or something. Lets not get crazy here. I understand theres a difference between little nods to the first one (Nods you can find around the world that have been there since release if you take the time to look for them) and just flat out telling the same story. But that’s what you’re asking them to do. Tell you the same story in a different game. Guild Wars needs to move forward, Anet needs to move forward, you need to move forward.

You’re lying to yourself if you think the abbadon fractal would be any different. We’d find out that Scarlet was somehow involved, and maybe behind the entire thing. If anything we saved you from seeing something you care about so much being injected with Scarlet.

Just don’t look at the websites for 10 days and don’t look at the achievement lists for 10 days and you’ve got exactly what you want.

Theres more to patch notes than just LS updates. I need to look to see what they nerfed about what class. Or in eles case, what they screwed harder this patch.

But think about when you get a new game, you want to play it because you don’t know anything in it. Theres a sense of exploration to it. Unlike Daroon i’m not saying it be completely hidden. Obviously we need something to point us in that direction (like an ingame mail saying come to such and such place, or just a screen shot of it, and nothing else), and then we discover things along the way. Maybe even disable waypoints until they’re rediscovered so we have to walk to the place like anet intends.

The Historian - for people who missed content

in Living World

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

We feel like our fractals dungeon is the perfect fit for this kind of “historical” experience, similar to the way the BMP worked in Gw1. Even better, it already exists and has explanations behind why these slices of time are available to discover and experience within.

In the future, you’ll see certain types of content that was part of larger story experiences be updated to work within the fractals dungeon and return there where it makes sense to do so. Of course, the specific rewards and achievements will not return since those are intended to be completed as the story unfolds, but the content itself will be used to expand out our fractals experience and serve as a place to continue to experience great (and strange) moments in history.

The dungeons arnt all the story though.

For example, I missed the introduction of Rox, and both southsun events, and barely caught the tail end of the introduction of the aetherblades.

So how am I supposed to be invested in a story, like you want me to be, if I have no idea of who the characters are or what has happened up to this point? It doesn’t make sense that there is no way to learn what has happened in the story if you want me to really give a crap and be invested in how it turns out.

I get the idea of time gated content, it sounds great on paper. Give players a reason to keep logging in week after week after week. All that happens though is the players that can’t play as often are lost in the story, don’t have enough time to finish the content for the skins from it.

I myself have found I don’t have a real drive to play the game because of this. I missed the southsun events due to work, since the very first parts of the LS were kind of rough. All these updates involve characters I don’t know, can’t learn about, and thus don’t care about. When your main draw to the game is a story I don’t know that I can’t learn ingame (Yes I can go read about it on the wiki but I shouldn’t have to), then what’s drawing me in? Yes letting us replay the dungeons is a very good step but getting an npc in the game to tell us whatever we’ve missed should be the first priority. Really it wouldn’t even be that hard. Just attach it to the current living story criers and give them an exposition dump. Or make it a public priory archive giving us a real reason to go back to the order’s bases.

Necromancer???, more like Conjurer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rainbow Sprint.3215

Guild Wars 1 had necros that did curses that did conditions. Guild Wars 1 had necros that life steal.

And in Guild Wars 1, there was a skill that was redone called Aura of the Lich which conjured a minion, even if there was no corpse to conjure from.

Obviously, necromancers were able to do it in Guild Wars 1, so it evolved.

From a game perspective, it’s easy to see why this was necessary though. In an open world environment, the last thing Anet wanted was for 20 necros in a zerg to all be competing for corpses. Let’s say 5 things die and there are 20 necros. That means 15 necros get nothing. There’s no percentage in that.

Some of the changes that were made in Guild Wars 1 were made to compensate for the open world. Instances are far more easily controlled than the open world, which is why necros now don’t have to compete for corpses. In my opinion, this was the right decision.

The lifesteal and the condition builds…they existed in Guild Wars 1 too. I know because I used them.

You know what’d be cool though, if the amount of minions you could summon came out of your life force pool.

Like get rid of them as utilities and make it into a class feature. You still have death shroud but you can also summon minions at your feet for a cost of life force (That is percentage based so it isnt overpowered. So summoning a bone fiend will always cost the same amount of your pool.) Introduce a kind of risk vs reward system to the necromancer. You can summon a lot of weak minions, summon a few really powerful minions, or keep all your life force for a full length death shroud if the fight goes south.

can we go back to the in game lore.

One problem with that idea. We know the dream actually exists, because sylvari are still connected to it once they awaken. It’s sort of a hive mind for sylvari, it connects all of them except those corrupted by the nightmare that have been cutoff from the dream. There are sylvari in game that will confirm this. The one i’m sure most people have heard is the one in LA asking an asura why she’s cut off from the dream when she steps through an asura gate. I would say this suggests the dream is a kind of magic bond between the sylvari as asura gates are based on dragon energy and we know the dragons absorb magic.

But we don’t really know exactly what the dream is or exactly how it works, it hasnt been explained. We just know it does exist, it’s real, and it connects the sylvari.

There are good parts after that, just people dont really talk about them as much.

Sieran is my favorite character in the PS (And all of GW2). The paths for the priory and order are both pretty solid. Everyone I talk to about this says Tonn’s story is pretty good. The mission with that demon jester, the mirror, and the source of orr.

The story before the orders wasnt all great either if we look at it as a whole of all the story paths, and not just the ones you personally took. Some were boring, or bland, or out of character. Even on asura, who I view to have the best early PS steps taking all of them into consideration, they’re not all that good. Have you ever been a member of the college of dynamics?

I have an alt of every class, just because I like playing multiple classes. I don’t really view it as a problem. Sure not all of them are 80, but having fun playing the game is more important to me than having a super powerful character.

Left hand combat animations

I’ve been playing 2 weeks now and only played d/d ele and i think dagger eles dont use their left hand dagger enough.
Example air first skill attack only attacks with right dagger. I think it would be cool that in air you would hit with both arm like using 2 whips or nunchaku like attacking.
Same goes for earth attunement. Like the other hand could raise other kind of rock from ground.
Water ofc same thing.

dont know about other professions but i think left hand needs more animations.

That’s just because skill #1, #2, and #3 are your main hand (or dominate hand) skills, and #4 and #5 are your off hand skills. If you change your main hand weapon, skills #1, #2, and #3 will change. Same with skill #4 and #5 if you change your off hand weapon. It’s a minor detail but it is correct the way it is.

Female vs. Male Characters

armors in games are always made with females in mind and then males as an afterthought. This seems true for every game.

But I got into the habit of making female characters after playing megaten where female armor seemed to drop more often from mobs than male armor, so the female armor was always cheaper.

You don’t do that much damage as a villager because the game isnt designed that you’re able to beat a courtier in a straight fight. You need to outsmart them more. Band together as villagers and win as a group, because alone you just die.

I do consider courtiers to have more of an advantage due to the MKS spam, it should have a higher cooldown on the skills or just make it a single elite skill with a random emote assigned to it when it’s cast, as courtiers still have traps that are already in the game and would make up for this lack of MKS with careful placement.

How do you rate the female sylvari looks?

As far as I am aware they have not attempted to have romantic dealings with any of the other species as of the moment. Whose to say what would happen if they did.

While I’m a fan of lore possibilities, A-net has chimed in that no two different playable species are capable of reproduction. So there will be no half norn/half sylvari, or half human/half charr, etc.

Sylvari can’t reproduce with each other either. They all come from the pale tree. While sylvari do have the ability for…that, they don’t have the capability of reproduction that way.

“The black wind howls… One among you will shortly perish…”

Ah, good times.

You know that wouldv’e made for a good story if anet didnt kill off all our favorite characters already.

At this rate Scarlet will become the next Kefka.

Kefka was an amazing villain. Even if you don’t like scarlet, don’t insult kefka

Norn dont only have hoelbrek, that’s just the main city. Sure they don’t have their home in the far shiverpeaks anymore, but I remember hearing somewhere ingame that there are other norn cities. Sylvari don’t only have the grove, it’s just they’re a new race and they’re rapidly expanding.

Humans on the other hand only have 2 major cities, connected by an asura gate, both are constantly under attack, and before the PCs came along, the humans were losing to the centaurs. So now, no humans are not in as much danger, but they were.

Why is she so popular?

she is not popular at all… the are a couple of people that try desperately to defend her but they are minority on these forums, and most the reasons they think she is great is the same reasons others don’t like her. “But she’s good at everything!!” – “that’s why we don’t like her”

You know who else was a minority on the forums? Kiel supporters.

I wasn’t ready to dismiss scarlet after her first appearance, you guys could atleast wait to see what anet would do with her, instead of crying after she appeared the first time “So when is she going to be gone?” Do you also read the title of a book and then say you read the entire book?
