I think they’re just the soul of a person. They share the same model as a shade and a shade is a soul of a dead person. A chaos beast is just the soul forcefully ripped out, which is really dark if you think about it. The body disintegrates and the soul is forcefully ripped out. There isnt even a trace of the body left and then you kill the soul just causing that person to vanish forever.

So in the video I saw the dev wearing the seer’s top. Which is a skin unavailable in PvE. Is that just because the dev has it unlocked or will there be a way to get these skins now? If it’s just because the dev has it unlocked then the video will be there taunting us forever. “You can get any look you want now! Except this one.”

It’s not necessarily the attack skills, in other mmos the skills you bring into battle determine your build. In this one it’s your utilities and your traits. Telling him to be an ele won’t fix his issue.

The game still has a build system for your character, it just works a different way.

So I have a question. My town clothes (seens below) are sunglasses, a casual hoodie, and riding pants. So since the riding pants are part of a set but you could buy the pieces individually, will I lose my town clothes?

Also will armor be all in where you can only equip sets? Because I mix my armor to create different looks, I dont wear all of one set.

Because the gay community hasn’t had straight culture shoved down their throats in virtually every form of media they encounter.

You unlock utilities skills as you level and eventually an elite skill.

The real thing that you’ll be toying with as you level up to 80 will be at level 11 you start to get into your traits. Which give you small stat boosts but also things like increased toughness while holding a staff, or having a chance to burn enemies on a crit. Traits make your skills behave differently and will be what makes you stand out instead of what skills you take into battle.

It’s not necessarily that it was a new area, it was exploring an area in a different way than normal. It’d be ok if they didn’t have the aspects, but it wouldn’t have been as amazing as the map wide scavenger hunt with the new mechanics.

Just like the first halloween or the original SAB. It was something different and unexpected.

You mean the one I mentioned by name 4 posts up? Sieran?

I don’t see anybody ever mention Forgal but I atleast see people bring up Sieran. Not as often as they should but a lot of people probably never met her. Zerker build has ruined this game !

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

I’m wondering if doubling the boss armor at the same time as halving their hp would stop people complaining about zerker set up. Or some variation therein.

The problem is that some game objects dont take conditions, the whole watchknights being immune to conditions through half of the fight thing which wouldn’t have been an issue if the knight changed modes randomly instead of when they got to a certain point on health and even then conditions just made it so you could dps better, and that having nearly the most toughness I can have, somewhere around 3k, it makes it so one of these big world bosses will 3 shot me instead of 1 shot me.

So really other stats don’t give as big as an advantage to be worth it, not when you can have a zerg of zerker players that can just do a quick dps and the big boss can’t hit them all so you get revived instantly if you go down.

What a disappointment.

in Living World

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

But I agree it was a disappointment. What shocks me to the core is that no one at an Anet LS planning and implementation meeting ever asked, “Why should the players care about Scarlet when they have no connection/history with her?” I hope they’ve learned their lesson with this. Remember Tybalt? Everyone loves him. Why? Because we were involved with him (and he was well written). We were never involved with Scarlet (and she was poorly written). Yes, one is a good guy and one is a bad guy, but its the level of involvement here that is the key.

That’s not it at all. Why does everyone remember Tybalt and not Forgal? By your logic we were involved with him too. Yet there’s a line that separates the two even though they share the same purpose (Forgal is your Vigil partner if you wernt aware). I mean you knew Tybalt for less time than you knew Scarlet if you think about it.

You met Tybalt and instantly fell in love, you met Scarlet and instantly hated her. History with the character is nothing, you didn’t meet Tybalt until you joined the order, you didn’t even know he existed before that point.

What makes these two characters different though? Tybalt has a few personality quirks that Scarlet didn’t. Making him seem more human and relatable. Tybalt was an old agent who hadn’t been on the field in ages and was happy to just get out. You can relate to that situation. Just like I could relate to Sieran’s urge to explore and happiness at finding something new. It’s not your time with a character that makes a character, it’s making them seem less like a robot and more like a person. Give them likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams, even give them something they’re afraid of.

Scarlet was focused on nothing else but her goal, nothing else mattered and she was clever enough to apparently pull off the impossible, and we can’t relate to that because none of us are that perfect. Really Anet can still redeem Scarlet if they show us who Ceara was, they could add a touch of realism to the character.

Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

I know that a VERY small percentage of the people who play GW2 actually read the forums and then a very small percentage of those people actually post on the forums. With that said, it seems the majority of the people who do post on the forums have nothing good to say about the game…. SO WHY ARE THEY PLAYING IT?!? Go find a different game to play if you don’t like this one and stop being toxic and unhelpful on these forums! If ANet isn’t living up to your expectations, then leave, nobody will miss you, including ANet.

Well first of all, I would if I could. In a heartbeat. Drop this game like a bad habit and go play FEZ. FEZ however shut down, all versions of it now, so I don’t have the option to go back.

Second of all constructive criticism =/= bashing on the game. I do enjoy GW2, not as much as I enjoyed FEZ, but I would have left long ago if there wasnt anything I enjoyed. Even those people who complain about the game all the time that are still here, there’s something they enjoy too. They just want the game to be better, and more in line with what they want. How is anet supposed to know that unless we tell them. Maybe anet decides that our constructive criticism isnt for them or whatever, but we atleast told them what we thought which is the important part.

I know the forums don’t represent the majority of the playerbase (as evidenced by the kiel vote which only myself and like 2 other people on the forums voted for kiel). And sometimes people don’t know what they really want, as evidenced by Scarlet trolling us at the end, Braham not caring, and people on the forums getting upset that Scarlet didn’t tell us her plan after that. They seem to forget they’re the ones that told anet to drop the Scarlet story as soon as possible.

The important thing for anet to remember in the future is, people dont necessarily want dragons, they say they do but that’s not what they’re after. They’re after a compelling story. Even if they wont admit it since most of the bad parts of the PS shine brighter in their mind than the good parts, it had a lot of good parts. Both pre and post orders. The PS represents better storytelling to them and it had a dragon. Scarlet even wore me down after awhile. While I didn’t write her off at her first appearance as most people did, eventually she got a little ridiculous for me (It was the toxic alliance, I couldn’t see the krait outright working with anybody willingly). Just don’t forget about us, the people that loved those little sort of filler updates in there. SAB, BOT4W and the holidays.

What to fix with Mesmer

Rainbow Sprint.3215

You know I missed the point where mesmer became the worst class in the game. Apparently i’m playing a terrible class and don’t even know it. With the best elite skill in the game (time warp), lots of support utilities, really 2 class features (phantasms/clones and shatters), condition removal rivaling the necro, ability to spam clones with the scepter (Which is your main 1v1 weapon btw), condition spam and escape skills with the staff, damage avoidance skills with the sword, stun with the pistol, a great long range weapon with the greatsword with cripple to make sure targets dont get away.

Obviously you can’t use all these weapons and skills at once but take your pick, you have a ton of options. If you arnt winning 1v1s as a mesmer, it’s not the class, it’s you.

I dont even use shatters at all, my fingers never touch those buttons and I kill things just fine. Guardians, warriors, thieves, whatever. If they’re alone they’re dead unless they run as I don’t use the greatsword.

Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

If you payed attention before release, anet didn’t want to remove the holy trinity for the sake of removing it, they wanted to change the combat system from something that games back in the early 2000s used that we’re still using today because no one wants to try anything new.

That system works until your players get a taste of a more advanced system, megaten or FEZ (the mmo not the stupid platformer), and then after that it’s really hard to go back to having no control over your character in combat, basically having the game decide your fate for you. Especially after FEZ in which getting hit in combat is entirely your fault, all damage is 100% avoidable and battles between players of equal skill could take awhile (Or in a few cases be so evenly matched that the battle never ends).

What if Scarlet was another race?

in Living World

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

The real question is what would happen if Scarlet was human? What would the community’s reaction to her be then?

Apparently humans are the most played race in GW2 already and really theres not that many examples of a good sylvari character in the game already. So some players already don’t like the sylvari. Their only interaction with a major character sylvari being Treherne and Scarlet. Scarlet’s first problem was some people didn’t give her a fair start, her second problem was she just seemed kind of too perfect, graduating all asura colleges, forming impossible alliances, etc. The third problem was she kind of started getting better at the end but by then everyone already wrote her off as a mary sue.

It really depends on what you mean by major character. Caithe is also a Sylvari, and has a presence in the dungeon story, as well as some parts of personal story (if non Sylvari). She also still maintains an air of mystery from the living story.

I don’t see Scarlet graduating all colleges as too far fetched. Sylvari are born with knowledge already accumulated from the dream, so it’s possible that there’s just been a good build up of information she’s had access to already. It’s just that she’s the one who was curious enough to bother. Many Sylvari feel content staying at home.

I was typing that with the assumption that most of the player base is not sylvari. But for examples of good sylvari I was talking about Sieran, Gavin, and from what I hear Malyck (Though I havent played that story).

I’m kind of laughing at the “anet needs to stop catering to the majority” connotations in some of the comments here. They’re a business. Are you for real right now?

Look, I hated the epilogue. I thought the writing, pacing, and characterization was trash. I thought that the dialogue options were unfunny garbage. I even thought it was inappropriate to be acting like everything is sunshine and rainbows when there’s a kittened off elder dragon yelling at us to get off his lawn. But what is with all of this pearl-clutching in this thread? “O-oh nooo, Scarlet was a person tooooo!” Yeah, a person who killed thousands of civilians and woke a kittening dragon. Some people’s deaths deserve to be celebrated, because the world is objectively, in a measureable way, a better place without them.

There’s a difference between being disappointed at the loss of a brilliant mind (possibly the most brilliant the world has seen), and saying she didn’t need to die; and some people are making the case that she didn’t need to die.

By the end of the LS, Scarlet wasnt herself, she had gone completely crazy. She may have had to die but she was a person at one point that lost her mind to someone or something else. It’d be a different story if Scarlet was acting completely by her own will but we already know Scarlet had a voice inside her head ever since she came out of Omadd’s machine and she lost the fight.

Scarlet's ultimate goal still unrevealed(?)

in Lore

Posted by: Rainbow Sprint.3215

Rainbow Sprint.3215

A dragon knows everything its minions know. The dream is a shared consciousness between all sylvari. While it’s not necessarily a hive mind to control all sylvari, information is shared in someway that’s not quite clear yet.

The dream behaves kind of like what we already know of dragons.

Knowing what we know about Scarlet’s plans, she wanted to be free from her destiny, whatever that was, but didnt agree with either side, the pale tree or the nightmare court. Why or how would a dragon do that in the first place, even if the pale tree was the dragon’s champion and the dragon reclaimed it? The last thing a dragon would do is free its minions.

So the voice in Scarlet’s head must’ve been telling her to wake the dragon, because waking the dragon seems to be the complete opposite of her original goal.

Then theres the words of the pale tree in the short story. “By attempting to understand the forces that make us, you will unleash them.” Maybe the pale tree was talking about the sylvari when it said us, and then Scarlet ended up unleashing a dragon. The pale tree cut off Scarlet from the dream to avoid Scarlet directly corrupting the dream. I don’t see anything else the words could mean at this point.

Sylvari are most defiantly originally dragon minions, the pale tree happened to grow without the influence of the dragon and once the dragon woke up, it had no more need of Scarlet. Who knows maybe that was Scarlet’s dream all along, she dreamt of waking a dragon and wanted to avoid that fate but by trying to avoid her fate she made it happen. Remember we know that the pale tree doesnt control the dream, it just oversees the dream.

The real curious thing here is that asura gates, which are based on dragon energy, can cut a sylvari off from the dream, just for a second or two, but we know trying to corrupt a sylvari just kills them. So synthesized dragon energy can disrupt the dream, and actual dragon energy kills the sylvari, while that doesnt prove or disprove the sylvari being dragon minions, it’s a curiosity and will probably end up being a plot point at some point.

There really should be a few more personality categories but I completely agree these should affect our dialogue options in conversations and should affect our emotes and idle animation as well. I dont feel that being sympathetic to Scarlet would be covered in any of the current personalities and really the joking seems out of place for all the current personalities too.

The personality should be decided upon character creation, I mean we currently have a choice that gives a small boost to one of the three but our character should be whatever personality we want from the start.

Yes dungeons are different than regular PvE, and need to be balanced differently but generally every player in a dungeon has an idea of what they’re doing. Fix the main PvE zerging mentality and you fix the dungeons. Besides that at some points in some dungeons the number of mobs are arguably way too kittening many (Like 4 out of all the dungeons), nothing is wrong with most of them; it’s all the players.

First of all, although you state that dungeon PvE is different from regular PvE, you pretty much ate your words when you said fixing zerging would fix dungeons. This doesn’t even make sense, you explicitly say one thing, but imply the opposite. You also state that every players in dungeons have an idea of what they’re doing. Using this statement, can you explain why every single day I get miserable failures in my pug groups that clearly do not have any idea of what they are doing? I find it very hard to take your argument seriously when it’s based on unsupported assumptions instead of facts.

I said that nothing is wrong with the dungeon itself, it’s the players and their mentality on how they’re playing the game. If you change that, then suddenly the dungeons work properly.

but generally every player in a dungeon has an idea of what they’re doing.

You see that word right there that you cut out? That changes what the entire sentence means. Instead of the sentence meaning every single player out there knows exactly what they’re doing and you’re the problem; now it means usually you get good players and dungeons go fine but sometimes you get people that mess up and that’s what we need to fix.

You’re always going to have those people that abuse the game mechanics, stacks and whatever.

Your ‘fixes’ wont actually do much. Anets fixes havent really been fixing it either.

Really a boss’s AOE should ignore the 5 player cap that players have (It’s fine to keep that limit on players), all damage should be buffed and then the amount that toughness reduces the damage should be buffed as well(As well as having a base level buff so toughness will make it so I can take more than 3 shots as opposed to 1 from a boss).

That will eliminate stacking and flush out the bad players that can’t dodge. The good players that can dodge effectively shouldn’t be punished because of the bad players.

All AOEs should become unblockable, so the only defense is to not be standing in them, as long as they arnt giant circles. Anet seems to like to balance reaction times around some sort of passive speed boosts that most classes have but as a main mesmer, I do not have such a thing and it’s unreasonable to ask me to give up my weapon swap for a speed boost.

That should solve the immediate problem of stacking and bad players counting on the stack to save them.

Heck maybe even give a player 15ish seconds after they’re defeated and if they no one starts reviving them, it instantly makes them waypoint to their nearest uncontested waypoint.

Finally PvP and PvE should be split, changes to one shouldn’t affect the other as changes to PvP can break PvE or the other way around.
