The fight was definitely not complete randomness last year. Everything moved in a cycle, I know because I memorised it and killed her on my 70th or so attempt… (actually I lost count, but I think it was around 70 tries, at least it felt that long)

Well then I didnt see it.

And the fight this year isnt a complete pattern anyway, the cosmic rifts dont always spawn in the same spot, just the shadow wells spawn in the same pattern and the visions of mortality have a pattern they follow when spawning as well.

Liadri so easy now......

Yep, dome has no roof now only a low fence, so camera is no issue at all. Plus new AoE markers on ground makes it very easy to see all her Shadowfall skills.
Liadri should be easy for many this time around; there goes the exclusivity of my mini… :/

THe one thing is the glass dome messing with your camera and hard to see AOE circles on the floor, that’s not the mechanics of the fight. that was anet putting in ways to kitten with you to make the fight seem hard without it actually being hard. Why make the boss harder when you can just make the player have to work harder.

The fact that removing those problems makes the boss much easier is proof of what I said last year. Liadri herself wasnt hard, it was just the camera angle.

The fight seems to have a pattern this year instead of the complete randomness that was last year.

Basically take some ranged, as a mesmer you cant afford to walk up to a cosmic rift and ranged works this year against it. Condition builds were the way to go last year, not sure about this year though but she still applies the weakness. As a mesmer I know all too well we don’t have that many options for conditions but it is very possible with the staff.

I think you misunderstand the term firstborn. 12-ish sylvari came from the pale tree in the first generation of sylvari. All of them are refered to as firstborn. So treherne isnt necessarily the very first, just one of the original.

At the start of the game humans were in a bad spot. The centaur forces were right outside of divinity’s reach. Shaemoor was pretty much the last line of defense before the city gates.

During the story the have gained ground however and are not in the state they were when you start the game. So you are right, they are stronger then they seemed at the beginning of the game.

I would say that the pain of loss is a very good opportunity in the coming chapters, and that will be much stronger if there is an actual partnership between the two characters, and there are already hints that something will happen to Kasmeer.

It’s anet, when you start to like a character, they kill the character off.

It’s probably one of the oldest literary devices for getting the audience emotionally invested in the story.

Except other stories have other characters i’m interested in besides the one character they decide to kill off.

More Bosses like liadri please!

in Living World

Rainbow Sprint.3215

No. No more. Bosses with cheap one-hit kills are not fun or needed in this game.

Except the one hit kill was patterned and easily avoided, so, that’s really an issue of skill. As for people saying warrior was the easiest, I’d argue engineer and guardian were the easiest, but out of that, i only beat her with thief, warrior, ele, and ranger. But the engi just being able to throw nades behind you or drop bombs where she’ll obviously walk over after her shield is down, was a cake walk of a fight.

Except not always. As a mesmer if the cosmic rift spawned on the other side of the field from me I can not physically reach it before it fires off, so it then becomes a 50/50 chance if I was pulled into death or not, and there was no amount of skill that helped me there.

Liadri wasn’t hard, Liadri was cheap. There is a difference. I’m all for hard bosses, but i’d like it to be better than Liadri.

Oh come on, no love for Dragon Age Origins?

The Archdemon was the coolest final boss ever.

But dragon age origins had other villains besides the archdemon. Teyrn Loghain being the main one, and the actual villain of the game that you were fighting most of the game.

Same with FFX, the final boss and the main villain is the same.

And only 60% of them will turn against you!

Nice. Clearly there have been major breakthroughs in Golemetic Subservience Protocol since I last canvased the subject.

I was fully prepared to have to subdue 90% of them after Operation: Catnap…

Wait. What security level is this channel?

So you just hope they’ll just stand and watch while you subdue 90% of your army gone haywire and trying to kill you?XD

However, that’s why I think Asurans are better off not being cute. They are cooler when they talk about the superiority of their race.XD

(and humans should have more inquisition.XD)

Well it’s not like the golems swap sides, they just start attacking everything. You just need the golems on the field, have them kill the charr, and then mop up the golems.

At launch AOEs wernt limited to 5 targets, this included world bosses. This was changed to prevent AOEs being too overpowered in WvW and affected world bosses too. Since that change had to also affect PvE including bosses, I assume it’s something hardcoded into the mechanics and such a change would involve completely remaking the combat system.

@Konig’s mention of Nightmare Court…

I don’t frequent the forums as often as I should, so I miss speculation storms. But has anyone considered the Nightmare Court as a possible pre-existing hint to Mordy? Could the Nightmare be its corruption of the Sylvari, the slow creation of pre-awakening sleeper agents out of the one sentient race that the other elder dragons apparently can’t touch? That first attached art reminds me of a section at the start of “What Scarlet Saw”…

“The sylvari woman brought her open hand up and spread her fingers wide. A thin vine crawled from her sleeve and began weaving between her splayed digits…

…Small red thorns sprang up from the vine between Scarlet’s fingers. She smiled."

After she contacted that, at the time unknown, entity during Omadd’s experiment, that entity we can now easily surmise to be Mordremoth, she gained the traits of the Nightmare Court. Through her journal, audio logs, and actions, we saw her rebelling against her source of corruption, which ultimately woke Mordy. Was this a veiled historical repeat of Glint’s rebellion against Kraik? Was Scarlet supposed to be the first Champion of Mordremoth?

I know this post is a little disjointed; I just woke up. But with Scarlet as a metric, it just all makes sense.

Only everyone and their mother. All these theories have already come up. Sylvari naturally supposed to be dragon minions is a very popular one.

When Jormag’s ice shield is up, it puts a debuff on you that will stack and deal more damage, and can’t be cleansed with normal conditions. That doesn’t have anything to do with how you play or your build (unless you walk into it).

As an elementalist, it’s a movement based class, moreso than other classes. Also the scepter can be good in PvE if you use it right, you just have to be clever, it doesn’t have to do with build as much as learning to play with it.

It’s much more cliché to have the small, kawaii race.

You say it like it’s a bad thing.

It is a bad thing that races have to follow clichés

Almost every race in every game has a whole bunch of clichés. Gw2 is no exception.
There is nothing wrong with Asura being cute.

Well, they have been advertised as being designed to be cute only at a first glance, but having traits similar to reptiles. That was nice.

And I fear GW2, who hyped itself as the grand savior, the MMORPG who would have changed everything and overthrown all we knew about other MMORPGs, can’t afford to have the same cliché races.

Cute is subjective. I personally find the skritt adorable and can’t stand the quaggan, but a lot of people would disagree with me.

If mesmer were such a broken op class they’d play it too. Instead what they’re saying is “I can beat players with no skill as this class, so please if you can beat me, switch to a class you can’t play so I can win.”

Though stealth is pretty cheap in this game, only because there’s no counter to it, stealth itself is fine as long as it has some counter.

Only Zhaitan woke up 100 years prior to GW2. Primordus woke 200 years prior, and Jormag 150 years prior, with the deep sea dragon waking 50 years prior, Kralkatorrik being awake for 5 years – Mordremoth hasn’t even awakened by the time of the personal story but a year later. And even then, each Dragon has only affected a single major race at most, and only when waking except Jormag and Zhaitan, which is why they get the most story focus.

I really suggest talking to all the NPCs throughtout each story step, and before completing each heart, rather than waiting to get to lvl 80 before focusing on lore. Most of the game’s backstory is told in the personal story or pre-completion heart and scout NPCs, which are one-time only viewability. And when I last saw, those were least documented on GW2W. If you don’t talk to them and pay attention, you may miss more than half of the game’s presented lore in first-hand reading, and half of that half completely from it not being on the wiki.

Well Kralkatorrik is probably still licking his wounds, Primordus is busy fighting the dwarves, the deep sea dragon apparently has been attacking races but at the bottom of the ocean, and Mordremoth hasn’t been awake long enough to attack anything.

It’s not that they’re not doing anything but with the exception of Kralkatorrik and Mordremoth, the dragons are just doing things that arn’t visible.

I actually talked to all the scouts my first time doing world completion, they actually tell you why you’re doing what you do at the hearts.

As for the dynamic events and the living story, they’re both trying to do the same thing. Before launch the buzzword (I guess buzzsentence) for anet was creating a “living, breathing world.” That the world doesn’t need you to progress forward and you can come in at the middle of it. So you have an issue with the design of the living story in general.

Level 50 is when you really move into the dragons, the story before then is about your race and you. Really exploring is where you get a feel for the threat the dragons pose. You’ll start getting into orr and really see what a dragon is capable of.

My staff isnt my main weapon, it’s just a secondary because it’s closer to what my build does than the greatsword and it has a little more utility. You’d be better getting an actual condition build with dire or carrion gear as theres much better traits and trait lines to take for using the staff as a main weapon instead of my build.

2) Ask the spirit who killed him/her.

Fixed that for you.

Yes Ritualist isn’t in GW2. But they will make the better detective. Nothing can beat asking the victim himself/herself directly.

Well in a human priory mission this actually happens, and you need an entire ritual, have to go to a place where the connection to the underworld is strong enough, and then have to defend the person casting the ritual while they are focused on maintaining the ritual. And if the priory doesn’t have the knowledge to efficiently do this by themselves, I think it’s safe to say the knowledge has been lost at some point and a normal person wouldn’t have the ability to do this.

Well everytime I have done it, when enough people keep attacking, she bugs out because she goes into her death dialogue but then she drops to 0 hp, the game heals her and she starts over again. So by attacking you’re keeping her in a loop.

Atleast that’s what we came to conclusion on, I was there when it first started happening. Just a long few minutes of attacking and then we decided to try not attacking, and it worked.

Rainbow Sprint.3215

When this game came out, I was under the impression that I can build my character any way I want. I chose guardian, as before GW2 I have played Tank/Knight classes in 6 different MMO’s for over 12 years. I never ever felt any inclination to be a support at all. And according to GW2 pre beta, I should not have to.

You can build your Guardian any way you want.
Of those, a non-trivial amount of builds are going to be viable™ for whatever you’re trying to do, though in different ways.

But, as I said, all of your incarnations will have some focus on group support, incidental or pivotal. This is because as a Guardian, your flavour is that you support others.

Much like as an Elementalist, you don’t truly stick to a single stance. Sure you may – or may not – favour one depending on build, but you still swap a ton or you’re selling yourself way way short. Or as a Mesmer, you’ll have illusions out and sometimes shatter them. Sure some builds try to avoid it whenever possible, but they still do that, and quite frequently so.

That’s a big difference from being focused on supporting others.

Actually I main mesmer and I don’t shatter at all. I still kill things just fine too.

Game Updates: Traits

Rainbow Sprint.3215

So anet I actually like the trait update. Not that the new traits are anything exceptional but I like the idea of exploring for all your traits.

Though I am sort of disappointed with a few things. You get all traits for all classes the same way. What does a warrior learn from conquering a temple of grenth? What does a mesmer learn from defeating a karka? It’s a good idea but it should have had different classes learn their traits by beating different enemies or finding different things. There are lots of areas in this game that you could draw attention to, like having a warrior go through the flame temple tombs to get one of their traits or have a necromancer have to defeat Veland to learn something for their traits. Seems like a missed opportunity to create a sense that you sought out these unique people or areas to learn these traits and drawing attention to those areas that some people don’t know that exist, and instead just choosing to make traits come from events everyone already does.

I also think it’s a little too late for an overhaul to traits like this since a lot of players arn’t going to see this system but I understand this isn’t for us, this is for the Chinese players who are new and will see these changes.

Couple of things.

Third, Anet is liars again. I remember an article or maybe it was the manifesto video but I remember a quote that went something along the lines of “You will not have to wait about for timers.” The megaserver has done just that.

Fourth, Karka only being around at one time. People don’t always have time to play at a specific time for that event. Particularly when its needed for traits now. Yes It can be triggered by large guilds. Though you have to be part of that guild and convince people to do it later. Might not get done every day.

This is not a problem of the megaserver but of the new boss timers, the megaserver could work fine without these changes.

I ran the string of boss events again and all were well populated. However, Teq and Wurm are still ghost towns, so why do we need this again?

They’re not megaserver. I was running the world boss train today and that was the general thought. Tequatl would be worth doing if it was on the megaserver, but not without it. Didn’t stop us from trying and failing though.

Do you really think you can pug Teq with the megaserver system? Without TS organization it’s a very difficult encounter just sayin.

That’s what people say about dungeons too. It depends on people knowing what they’re doing, TS doesn’t matter.
