Depends, if it’s something I enjoy regardless, sure. For this one I am not a fan of SW. I usually never go there. I spent about 3-4 hours there in total this week. No portal of course, but I was never planning to farm like other people do. I did finally get some vinewrath kills, so that was cool.
My biggest problem with fall damage traits in the new system is that they are usually in trait lines I don’t like. But with the new system that is doubly punishing. If I got the trait line with fall damage I would be losing a trait line that I actually prefer for it. Even worse is that if I wanted to get an Elite Specialization then I would be killing 2 trait lines I would normally want. Just for the fall damage trait. That is supremely obnoxious. Put it in the mastery system somewhere. I don’t want the fall damage traits to affect my build. They honestly shouldn’t since the vast majority of the time they have zero impact in combat. Fall damage reduction fits much more into the mastery system than it does traits as those usually have some combat effects to them while mastery does not.
Wow, I didn’t realize how much variety that GW had with dances. I would love more in game THAT AREN’T TIED TO A GEM STORE BOOK.
Is P/P really a thing?
Anyway that’s a bit of a close minded way to look at things. You have additional traits now and several other traits opened up which look very promising. The lost damage can easily be made up somewhere else.
Ricochet and Invigorating Precision in the same tier sucks, but I’m not expecting Invigorating Precision to stay as it is. It’s extremely powerful for PvE but we were never able to take it because of competed with Executioner. In the new lines we can freely take it at no damage loss which is just too much.
EDIT:
Oh one thing I forgot to mention. I’m immensely looking forward to trying a P/P condi build with Pressure Striking and Trappers Respite.
I am SUPER casual with my thief. I go d/d and p/p. I pick traits that work with dual weapon skills. It’s probably horrible, but I enjoy it. I’m interested to see what trait lines will look like once they work on the numbers a bit more.
RNG is RNG. Nothing new or amazing about this.
Kinda glad my mesmer is collecting dust. I have zero interest in this. Nice to hear news though.
I remember when I used to be excited to get into betas. But looking at this? It looks like insanity. Is a beta really worth all this mindless grinding?
Yeah what Germ said pretty much and also putting highlvl mobs in lowlvl areas? WUT? on the contrary there is no such thing, since it is the high lvl players that get scaled down to the lvl of the area they are in, you sure it wasnt you that strayed into a highlvl map with a lowlvl character?
what i mean by high level is those points of interest brought in by episodes of the living world. hot spots on maps through out the game including low level areas that have monsters that are just too powerful for low levels to beat even when in their own zone of level
What? If you are fighting mobs from the living world, then you have entered a living world instance, and are no longer in a normal zone. Those living world instances are a part of the end game, and as such are level 80, and are not meant for leveling.
I get the feeling that you haven’t asked in zone chat for people to do zone completion with, or used the “looking for group” tool. There are always people looking for other people to do zone completion with.
ok here is an example of the mobs im talking about… you know how in different spots in areas there are naga or something surrounding some sort of pylon (this is an old example mind you) in the normal open world… where you run around and explore… yeah those mobs are in newbie areas too… regardless this isnt quite an issue for me considering the 2 toons i play on the most are level 80. even with the down scaling of level they are normally more powerful than the other foes of the area. im just saying that those spots can be frustrating for people who are new to the game because your running around exploring the area you are in and you run into a mob that you think you can beat and they slaughter you almost instantly. in the open world… not an instance.
i have owned the game since it was pre-orderable. i know what im talking about.
yes i have used the different aspects of the chat window… i know how the functions work.
Those are events that are left over from living world season 1. They are dead obvious and easily avoidable. They aren’t part of map completion. Why are they an issue?

If you are leveling a character normally, 25% should be a given.
Yes, if. But we (in this thread) didn’t.
I do all PvE/story on my main, but leveld all my alts (7 level 80s) in PvP which drops both tomes AND skill scrolls.
And players who have leveled all their alts, or even all their characters full stop, in WvW are just as screwed.
What are you talking about? Skill scrolls will still work. You even said yourself that pvp drops them like crazy. What are you worried about?
They specifically stated that when the new system is implemented, skill scrolls and skill points will be converted into materials for the mystic forge instead of into hero points.
Must have missed that. Even so, you have the scrolls now, right? Make sure you use them on the characters that need the extra points now. We still have months before the expansion hits. You can’t claim you won’t be prepared.

Because the bulk of SPs will come from levels, the importance of skill challenges has been downplayed, so alt characters won’t need to do something crazy like 100% world completion to get the full legacy set. This softens the problem, and might have been the best solution they have found.
It’s 25% (more to unlock elite specializations) of the world map; that may not sound much, but multiplied with my 17 affected alts, it is a major pain in the butt.
If you are leveling a character normally, 25% should be a given. I used tons of tomes on my mesmer and still have over 30%. So much unwarranted fear. I can’t believe people are getting so worked up about this. They said it will be about 465 hero points to max out a character and 400 of them come from just hitting 80. So every character you have at 80 will have the bulk of their points already taken care of. Chances are we will have most characters with max hero points on day one and tons of the new currency from all the extra points.
I have 1 level 80 character with 189 skill challenges,
2 Level 80s that I levelled to around 60 in pve, with 30 or so.
1 Level 80 with 0 skill challenges
One level 47 with 6 skill challenges
and 3 level 20 somethings with between 0-10 each. It’s hardly something that you easily get.
Characters that aren’t max level don’t count. You will unlock stuff as you level, just like any other game. Do you not have any skill scrolls sitting in your bank? Even so, with the 80 that has done zero skill challenges, do you not have extra skill points from levels past 80? Even if you don’t, you will be able to unlock almost everything with just being 80. Are you honestly trying to complain about those last 65 points? That is super petty. Whatever builds you want, that 400 points will get it for you. If you are a completionist, get to leveling. There is still PLENTY of time before HoT goes live.

wait wait WAAAAIT.
this means Celestial will get a buff on ALL of the stats.
HOLY kitten
Yes, it won’t be huge, but it will get a boost. All gear will have their stats raised a slight amount to make up for the lost stats in the trait lines.
This event is aimed at max level current players. There will be other ways to get into beta. I still don’t see what the big deal is. I would rather wait for everything to hit live servers instead of testing it in beta just to lose all that progress and start over. I’ve done enough betas over the years to have gotten over the mystique of it.
Nothing wrong with a diversified way of getting into it.
It’s not like signing up and hoping for an invite isn’t RNG.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/claim-your-spot-in-the-next-heart-of-thorns-closed-beta/
But going into the world looking for rare portals is.
You are assuming that is the only way to get into beta. It won’t be. It’s an option. Instead of complaining, why don’t you participate and increase your chances?
Guardians will get a big boost to their damage and support. The only “problem” is that they are going to be pigeon-holed into certain weaponry to optimal effectiveness, which kinda sucks.
You can say that about every class. There are tons of weapons classes don’t use because they are bad for them. For example, how often do you see rifle warriors?
Looks like someone goes on reddit. I personally think it looks stupid as hell. Uncoordinated seizures. I can’t classify that as dancing.
If you already made every single legendary, all there is to do is save up resources for the new legendaries, right?
They showed off the idea and intent of the new specializations and UI changes. They haven’t even begun to touch numbers and balancing. So they are saying that while numbers are being shown, none of them are representative of what we will see in beta or the final live version. Get your panties unbunched.
Personally, I have one slotted at almost all times on every character. Most of what I do ends up being world exploration or puzzles. Those both can involve lots of falling and I don’t like dying to fall damage. So while you don’t use them, I certainly do.
I didn't want to say it but(post spec stream)

For those of us who learn by doing and not by videos, not by the game “showing” us, this is devastating.
For all those with literal brain damage – this game was hard enough – with the new changes you add a level of confusion and more that we did not need at all.
Wow, a whole one more elite that I have to choose over another.
Wow, a traiting system that is more than confusing, it’s harder to get through and harder to change from if you go down the wrong one??
Wow, “mats” for “tomes” and “skill points” that we sweated our hearts and souls out to get and keep for future use????
Wow, not making impossible mats available (*ahem ask anyone making a legendary how to get lodestones – any lodestones! and several other mats that are just about impossible – grind, grind, grind, grind, grind.)
Wow, not listening to players when you ask for our opinions and then throwing the lot of us under a literal bus.
I honestly have no idea what you are getting at. Is this sarcasm? I hope it’s sarcasm. Even so, your first statement just makes no sense no matter how much I read it. I have no idea how this is ‘devastating’.
I seriously doubt it. I’m glad I never bothered with them. If I unlocked them, fine. But paying gold and skill points? I would have felt like a sucker. Doubly so now that the new system will be coming in.
I am hoping it’s a step in the right direction. It’s better than info on frogs or recaps on PoI.
“If you already have Scrolls of Knowledge and a bunch of existing skill points, you will end up with a lot of crafting material that converts into a new currency that will be used in the Mystic Forge. "
I read that and I wondered if these crafting material that will end up being used towards completing the collections for legendaries? Or will it be bunch of random potent venom sacs and the likes?
I hope they give us time like they did for glory exchanges with proper detailed information before the xpac launches. I am sitting on over 1.5k of these things combined.
EDIT: I think if I understand the blogger’s english, he meant skill points will get converted into something like “mystic points/material” that we will be able to purchase the stuff we currently purchase from Miyani. So, in essence, if I want to get 10 philosopher stones, I will have to spend 1 mystic point/material to get them. This essentially helps ANET get rid of the skill points. There maybe 1 to 1 conversion ratio between skill point and mystic point/material but, the conversion ratio maybe different for tomes of knowledge. Well, that’s what i think.
I’m thinking it might be that and a mix of things you used to have to buy with skill points for the mystic forge.
Maybe this will satisfy (or maybe not, it is the forums, after all) those in need of ‘real’ information. =)
This is good, don’t get me wrong, but we can’t have nothing but recaps and fluff posts for another month after this. Today was a step in the right direction and I hope they continue like this.
Sounds like once we have all our Hero Points, any excess will be converted into crafting mats. So I suppose the scrolls will still function, but I have no idea what currency we will use to buy things that cost skill points since we can’t stockpile them anymore in HoT.
I don’t really have any negative feelings one way or another so far. But there is still a lot we don’t know. Maybe tomorrow on twitch they will give some new juicy bits. But I am glad they are finally talking about specializations.

There are actually people that don’t pvp. And some pvpers actually don’t like that style of play.
Quite irrelevant.
New stuff is new stuff no matter if you are interested in it or not.
I prefer more mechanical or technical news that effects everyone. Lore? I would rather read it in game than out of context in a blog. PvP? Meh, people had the chance to test it. We don’t need another blog on it. There are a good deal of features that they mentioned that we know essentially nothing about. But I guess you are happy hearing about frogs.

Monumentally disappointed. A halfass blurb that is referring to a blog post they already made and Hylek. Really?!
It won’t be optional if you want to complete the PS. However, it will become a PS instance that one can solo or bring in friends just like any other PS instance allows. The core experience of the dungeon will remain the same, just scaled differently.
All per Bobby Stein’s stickied post on the revamp.
Optional as in you can choose to still go with a group, but you can do it solo now. So there are options instead of it just being a 5 man group.
ArenaNet’s next expansion after HoT needs to be like WoW’s Cataclysm in the sense that all the vanilla maps are redone to accommodate the newer tech.
Assuming ArenaNet lasts that long, it’s very unlikely that they would do such thing in an expansion after HoT. In a recent interview, they mentioned that they won’t fix the fight against Zaithan because people tend to play new content more than old content.
So don’t expect to see much polishing of the features in the current Tyria.
They are giving up on Zhaitan and removing it as a story dungeon and making it an optional single player part of the personal story.
ArenaNet’s next expansion after HoT needs to be like WoW’s Cataclysm in the sense that all the vanilla maps are redone to accommodate the newer tech. This would also fix the problem with Orr, but they would need to revamp the personal stories to reflect the changes. New players could get a cinematic explaining the previous personal story and LS updates up to HoT. It would be a long opening cinematic or they could weave it in with flashbacks for a new story. If Anet is looking for a writer…please let me know! I have a lot of great ideas!
Considering how poorly Cataclysm did, suggesting this is very surprising. Frankly, I would rather they focus on opening new areas than updating old ones.
What they said. As someone who’s spent a ridiculous amount of time exploring the edges of the map and looking for ways out I can think of quite a few places where gliding (or even a slightly longer jump than is possible with speed boosts/items) would get you outside the areas you’re supposed to be able to access, or even outside the entire map.
It would be a huge amount of work to fix, for relatively little benefit since the other side to those maps not being built with gliding in mind is that there’s no reason to glide, except for cool screenshots. There’s nothing you need to access, or most players would want to access (those who aren’t weirdos like me who find falling out the map entertaining) that you can’t simply walk/jump to.
It would also cause issues with WvW. There’s a few points I can think of where you’d probably be able to glide into keeps and towers, which would make defense even more pointless than it is now.
It would be a fun extra, I’d love to be able to glide through the Shiverpeaks for example, but not worth the work it would require from Anet.
I would be surprised if gliding wasn’t allowed in the new borderlands to be honest. I don’t see it fitting in EB, but the new borderlands are brand spanking new. It seems silly not to include something like that there.
Supposing it actually is done, I assume they will have to be playable in all classes?
They are master stealthers, master warriors, master hunters, but how about spellcasting? Can’t imagine Largos fitting in as mesmers or elementalists or engineers. Guardians.. hah.Whatever they do will be done with a stealth/rogue combat element in it. Or they could be unlocked after one unlocks, say, an Assassin specialisation in Thief, but even then, only after like a bazillion lore and skill requirements are met.
They could be made playable by having the original character travel to the Largos area ‘their’ character is in, and request their assistance, whereby they reload as the Largos? This could be restricted to certain parts of the map for a certain duration of the week?
Yet Asura can be warriors and guardians. Charr can be mesmers. No class is barred to any race, nor should it.
Unless some lore comes out that will make them more sociable, I don’t see it happening. Right now they are extremely insular and will treat ANYONE as a viable target for their hunts.
Lore comes out of people. It is up to us to make some, then. Fanfiction writers, ahoy!
Apart from their deadliness and beauty, their very insularity is what makes them appealing. What is their world like?
You got that wrong. Lore comes from Arenanet. Largos are their intellectual property. Until they write more story about the Largos, we will never know for certain.
Won’t hurt to inspire them <3
Of course not. Write away and make up whatever you want. None of it will be canon. But hey, if it inspires Anet to flesh out the Largos some more than it certainly can’t hurt.
Unless some lore comes out that will make them more sociable, I don’t see it happening. Right now they are extremely insular and will treat ANYONE as a viable target for their hunts.

Hell, I just don’t get Norn. Why are sons of svanir still welcome in Hoelbrak? We kill sons of svanir constantly and they are fighting and killing everyone they can. Norn are just dumb.

Looks like two different Evon to me. One is Captain Evon Gnashblade and they other is just Evon Gnashblade. I bet Captain Evon is upset the other Evon got the name first.
Though the gear is different, it’s clearly the same Charr. Same face, horns, fur and hair color.
If they were both in the same zone standing beside each other I might call it a bug. Otherwise it’s just Evon going about his own business in the zones he needs to go visit. You just happen to always stumble upon him in those two places.
NPCs have their own lives as well, sort of. It’d be cooler if he walked from one place to the other instead of permanently being in both places.
Those are both in Lion’s Arch, just one is in the north and the other is in the south. It’s a bug.
For crying out loud…please dont make this one of THOSE threads..some of the things said and stated in here are blah enough already..
This type of post doesn’t help. If you have nothing to contribute, why post at all?
Because i really dont want to see this thread locked for going off topic, which it kind of is doing. And while they dont help, sometimes they get them back on track.
Off topic? I don’t think so. We are trying to come to terms with a foundation for the reasons of the thread.
Am I really?
Maybe you would like to tell my (half Asian) long term BF that I’m a racist, then?
I’m sure he’d be fascinated to know.
No, I can just tell the difference between race (as in, skin colour and possibly a few other very minor physical differences, that don’t prevent interbreeding) and species, that’s all.
…and for the record, I’m also someone who is more interested in my potential mate’s mind, than I am in their physical appearance.
I just know where to draw the line in terms of who I should mate with and who I shouldn’t.
Comparing it to an interracial (as in skin colour), or gay relationship, is ridiculous.
These are, genetically, very different creatures – the physical appearance is just evidence of that.
That is supposed to be the clue that makes you draw the line at nothing more than just good friends…
That doesn’t mean I couldn’t like/love Charr in other (non-sexual) ways, though.
I could and no doubt I would, if I lived in Tyria.
Please note my char name – I love big cats, just not in that way.
…and whether they are, or are not (technically) cat people is also besides the point, because the point is that they look almost exactly like cats.
So we, as human beings living in the real world (where there are cats), are not supposed to find them attractive.
Once again, you are putting your real world standards into a fantasy setting. That just doesn’t work. And it’s still sad to see you are trying to say what people should and shouldn’t like, as if it’s a universal standard. Some people in the real world want to marry buildings and you find fantasy people liking other fantasy people wrong?
For crying out loud…please dont make this one of THOSE threads..some of the things said and stated in here are blah enough already..

I doubt that charr standards of seduction would even match our own. For all we know, a charrs attractiveness could be measured by size of the horns, with no merit being given to the outfit at all.
But what if said female charr is trying to attract a handsome human thief that killed an Elder Dragon by joining the Tyria High Varsity Cheerleader team, only to be disappointed by the lack of seductive outfits in the Gem Store? The day the Exemplar outfits are released, is the day of redemption.
She could always transfer to TC Bayside High, where the cheerleader squad is ranked #1 NA, but her family currently doesn’t have the funds to pay for such a move. Still, Tyria High is a fine school for all RPers to attend. A charr can learn a lot about humans there.
Why would a female Charr be trying to attract a human?
Sentient beings who can communicate will find ways to love one another. It’s kind of beautiful, if you don’t think about it too hard. (They’ll find ways to hate each other, too, of course.) /serious note
Well, obviously it’s not as bad as a human sexually abusing an animal, but I still think the general rule is:
If the coupling is incapable of creating offspring (in general, I mean – I’m not referring to specific cases of infertility), it probably shouldn’t be happening at all.
It’s like you have never loved someone before. Once you love someone (which generally isn’t a choice you make) you can’t just turn your heart off.
No, it’s like I have only loved other human beings in that way.
As, I would hope, have we all…
I can’t hold a conversation with anything other than a human in real life. That’s different in fantasy worlds. I would hope you understand that.
Yes, of course I do.
That wasn’t a dig at you personally – it was more a reference to the worrying things that are thrown up by a thread like this.
The thing is, this isn’t even a thread about sexualising extremely human-looking, sentient aliens, is it?
This is a thread about asking to be able to sexualise extremely animal-looking, albeit also sentient, creatures, in a human way.
Quite frankly, no human being should be viewing Charr (in their current form) in a sexual way, as they are far too close to animals that exist in our world, physically speaking.
Closer than they are to humans, in fact.
I understand some people may just want to play dress-up, in a fairly innocent way, but still.
Fact is, you are focused more on looks than anything. You don’t see anything intelligent as a being of soul and mind. All you see is the body and since it’s against your personal beliefs, you find it abhorrent. Not everyone thinks and feels the same way. In Tyria, Charr aren’t cat people. They are charr. You are being raciest/speciesist against them just like someone would be in real life against someone of a different skin color and it’s pretty sad you can’t see that. If they are intelligent and it’s consensual, who are we to judge? It’s arguably the same for LGBT. Who cares if they can procreate or not? Relationships aren’t founded on procreation in a civilized society. It’s based around mutual respect and understanding. Procreation is for animals, ironically enough.
I doubt that charr standards of seduction would even match our own. For all we know, a charrs attractiveness could be measured by size of the horns, with no merit being given to the outfit at all.

There are female charr. They usually have a unisex look to their clothing. Why wouldn’t they want an option to appear more feminine if they chose to?
My female Charr looks ludicrous in anything other than heavy armor. I would venture to say all Charr look silly in anything else. The absolute worst example is this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/d/dd/Fancy_Winter_Outfit_charr_female_front.jpgIt’s like that scene in the animated “Beauty and the Beast” where Beast gets all dressed up with his hair curled, and his minions say, “You look…. you look….”
“RIDICULOUS!!”
And that is your opinion. We just want options instead of most armors looking almost the kitten same.
