What if Crafting did not give XP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ralanost.8913

Ralanost.8913

I would like to request that crafting no longer give experience, because it directly skews the value of crafted items.

I would venture to say that Key farmers, and lazy levelers represent the majority of people crafting. and they are creating the whole Tradepost/crafting convolution (worthlessness of items) which is IMHO a detriment to the game.

You know what ruins loot in this game? That so much drops and most of it is garbage. Even though there is so much on the tp that things aren’t even worth posting, most drops get vendored or salvaged and there is still a glut of trash on the TP. The game gives out garbage gear like Jehovah’s Witness pamphlets. You can’t get rid of it fast enough. It has absolutely zero to do with crafting and everything with how most gear is simply trash.

Looks like today (and on tomorrow’s PoI), we hear about storytelling methods.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-story-so-farheart-of-thorns-beats/

And once I read it, it’s more a “story so far.” Useful for those who didn’t play LS2.

Ugh. Really couldn’t care less. I hate to say it, but out of a lot of MMORPGs that I have played, I am not very invested at all in the story of GW2. It’s just not interesting and the characters they shove in your face to interact with aren’t ‘things’ I can be empathetic towards.

Just curious. Why? We know what legends they will have. We don’t know exactly what they will do, but we know the names. Why speculate on something that will never happen? And other than being a jerk before AND after death, what is so legendary about Adelbern?

Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary

Ralanost.8913

If the drop rate of precursors is %0.01, then only the top %99.99 richest (or luckiest) players will have a certain legendary.

That is patently not true. It would be true only if said drop chance was checked only once ever per each person, but, as you well know, it’s not so. In fact, there are people that are producing precursors (just as there are people that random dropped more than one).

Currently the precursors are being obtained by several categories of players, and the biggest one is neither the luckiest, or the wealthiest, but simply* people that are willing to put some effort into it.* And if currently most people are not willing to do that, i see no reason for the situation to change after HoT. It’s not like these new precursor collections will be a cakewalk.

And the new legendaries will not be buyable, by the way, which will make them far more “exclusive” and “prestigious” (as much as a virtual set of data in a computer game you are certain to get if you are willing to work for it can confer any prestige) than current ones.

Effort has nothing to do with it. It’s all about luck or money.

You’re way over-analyzing this.

In your opinion. However I wasn’t weighing in on the whole “us versus them” mentality of this argument. I was weighing in on the original poster’s idea. As for my opinion on the whole argument, its monumentally stupid. It boils down to sounding like this “If you were really a considered person you would waypoint and run back so I don’t have to sacrifice my time to resurrect your character, it’s only x amount of seconds of your time which is nothing compared to the x amount of time I would have to give up helping you.” “Well if you were a truly considerable person that time wouldn’t matter because you helped another human being.” Notice the circular and repetitive pattern of the argument?

based on the axiom that helping someone is a good thing, regardless of his actions or willfully and unnecessarily being a liability to you. I reject your axiom and collectivist weltanschauung.

I stopped caring about specialisations as soon as I learned guardian will get a bow. Anyway, I doubt we’ll be seeing any information about them in the next month. I have a feeling they wanna keep this info for last.

This hasn’t been confirmed yet. it MAY be the case, but ANET hasn’t released it, so why dismiss it already. Also, who’s to say the longbow may not have great attacks that really add to the profession?

Considering pretty much every fight in PvE is melee, I’m disappointed we get a ranged weapon.

Quite the opposite, actually.

Exclusivity through RNG or high cost on the TP isn’t something I’d really call hard; more like tedious.

Now, however, gaining a Legendary – and precursor – will have a story behind it. The weapon has a place in the world and lore, whereas before they were just random weapons with the Legendary title.

Very much this. I will respect someone more that worked for a new legendary over someone that paid for a current legendary.

Log in for your daily rewards if it’s important to you. Don’t force yourself to find entertainment in something you don’t want to do.

I have a feeling specialisations won’t give us that much variety/difference when I really think about it – maybe 1 new trait line (which replaces the profession’s main trait line – like arcana for ele, or soul reap for necro etc.) and a different weapon type I assume, so not really looking forward to specialisations anymore.

Instead, I’d rather fancy a sneak peak at some of the new legendary weapons. I realise most don’t want rainbow themed weapons this time – completely understandable. We have the bifrost and the dreamer, and I do think with the new legendaries we need some more serious/fierce looking weapons with unique effects.

In fact I’m thinking about going for the juggernaut legendary for my future revenant, but then today I was thinking – wait, what if there’s a new legendary hammer that I like even more? So I’m kind of on the edge on what to do at the moment.

Just because you lack imagination and creativity doesn’t mean the developers do. Could you have come up with the Revenant in the state that we currently know it? No? They did.

You guys realise that probably the biggest reason specialisations haven’t been talked about or put in the beta is because the content isn’t anywhere near being completed right lol? That goes for most of the content in HoT. What people are failing to realize is that the majority of the content wasn’t being completed in secret all this time in some good-willed plan by anet but being created from scratch as we speak. People should weigh up whether the missing content from the usual updates is significantly less than what this expansion will give us.

All those poison clouds kill very fast. You have to be quick to stay out of them. You can have 5 people trying to rez one dead just to have a few clouds hit that spot and wipe them out before they can dodge and now you have 6 dead instead of just one.

New precursors still be obtained using RNG?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ralanost.8913

Just be honest and say that you hate not being able to get ahead of others by spending your money.

I have never bought a pre or a legendary off the TP I have sold a few quite a few that I have gotten from the forge, but the point remains the same, if they require the same mats as the old ones people will dominate the market, if the MATs where only used for legendary’s that would be fine, but alas they are not, there are several things in game that need those MATs to craft, certain armor/weapons etc,

So from this update those people who do not care about legendary’s are going to get hammered by the TP prices for those MAT’s when they need them for the other gear they are crafting,

For me when Powerful Blood hits 1g each it will be great, but as this game is firmly designed for the causal player and not people like me who play more, they are going to get ruined by this update if they want anything nice.

I have no problem with Pre’s and Legendary’s made via the mastery system being account bound, but if it comes from a drop of forge it should be tradable.

From what I recall the mastery line for legendary precursors cost a lot of mastery points. So not only will they have to sink all those mastery points into the crafting, but they will still have to spend the experience and then do the various objectives as well. 3 stages worth. I will be surprised if people will really dedicate all their points so quickly to making a legendary? It will block all progress they can make in Maguuma while they are doing that. I really don’t think crafting mats will be affected that much especially with them coming from events in HoT. And precursors that drop or come from the mystic toilet have already been confirmed to still work as they do now.

Whoever gets there first decides the prices of new legendary’s. They will know the mats needed for the collections before anyone else and can buy every single one of those mats off the TP. I know I will be working 24/7 to get that mastery unlocked asap otherwise you won’t have a snowballs chance in hell of being able to afford a new legendary.

That’s just paranoia speaking. There will be people buying mats. There will be people selling mats. It always evens out in the end.

Nice, I thought they only added new weapons with specializations.

Specializations include:

- 1 new weapon.
- New traits.
- 1 new healing skill.
- New utility skills.
- 1 new elite skill.
- ‘changed profession mechanics’

Don’t forget that specializations also lock you out of certain tools the base profession has so it doesn’t amount to a straight upgrade. So, in addition to gaining what you mentioned, you also lose something by specializing. They just haven’t elaborated on what those limitations are exactly.

Most guess at this point that we lose our 5th trait line to have it replaced by the specialization trait line. Other than that and the ‘change profession mechanics’ we have no details.

Why change it now though, by not making them tradable it will allow those who have 10’s of 1000’s of gold to dominate the market when it come out what is needed, imagine if it does require the same MATs as current legendary’s and you have to farm for them now instead, people who can control the market can push them prices WAY up, it makes no sense to make 1 set tradable and 1 set not,

Not to mention that by making them non tradable they will hurt there own Gems – Gold market.

Absolute nonsense. They changed it since most people hate the current method and think the TP lessens any uniqueness or prestige legendaries have. And they are right. They should never have been on the TP in the first place. But they aren’t changing how the old ones work. You get one from drops or the mystic toilet? You are still free to put it on the tp. But you can’t do that with the new ones. It means that anyone that puts in the effort can get one and at the same speed. Not just people with deep pockets.

At least it isn’t as bad as TERA. There is so much superfluous loot in TERA people literally would rather it rot on the ground than even bother picking it up. How bad do you have to get rewards when people don’t want most of it? GW2 isn’t quite as bad, but it’s pretty close. Useless garbage constantly gets thrown in our bags. The overwhelming majority isn’t even worth good money. Most of the effort of looting goes to sorting through all the trash in hopes of finding something worth more than 50s.

Loot should be exciting and rewarding, not a tedious drudgery that many would avoid if they could.

It’d be good to know if the new precursors will be still available true the old means of acquiring. And if they (the new precursors) will be tradable.

If you read the blog post you would know already. Yes, the old precursors can still be found via drops or the mystic toilet. The old precursors gained the current way will still be tradeable. Any precursors made with the mastery system will be account bound. The new legendaries will only be available through the mastery system, so neither they or their precursors will be available for trade.

Not quite, the old precursors that are crafted with the recipe obtained from the new system will be tradable.

" This final collection unlocks the recipe to craft the polished final iteration of the precursor. For all of our existing precursors, this is a tradable exotic weapon, but they will all be updated to use new skins that look much like the legendary weapons they’ll one day become. "

Yes, existing, as in current ones. Like ones in the game right now. Read it again.

No, existing refers to the legendaries and precursors that are not the new ones coming in Heart of Thorns, in the two paragraphs before that is specifically says the two tiers that build-up to the full precursor are untradable, but it says the precursor you craft with the recipe obtained from completing the final tier is a tradable exotic weapon.

As a reference that they have used the terminology in this way before, here is a quote from the mastery system blog.

“Master Legends: Train in legendary crafting to learn to create all existing legendary weapon precursors and new legendary weapon precursors introduced with Heart of Thorns.”

Well, then either the blog post is wrong or WP is.
