Thankfully I just lost progress on an event, but it was still annoying. Worst part is that I was doing events in Dry Top for the daily and the d/c dumped me into Lion’s Arch for some reason. Going to stay out of the game until it’s fixed.
Interesting. Would have been nice seeing it on a male and female human. No offense, but asura aren’t the best to model things on.
Kinda surprised that_shaman doesn’t have a video on this. But OP, that video doesn’t do much to be honest. 360p is a blurry mess.
leveling is bad, people that leveled their characters few months after launch when you could still see people around doing events it was fun, now it really is a drag. it never was fun, its good that you have many options like crafting etc. otherwise if there was only heart quests it would kill it for many people that want to have alts
I only had 2 80s before 2015. I have one of each class now. I honestly find being 80 more boring than leveling. And that is with 3 characters at map completion.
You obviously haven’t played many games if you are complaining about the leveling in GW2. There are lots of options on how to level. pvp, wvw and various routes in pve. And if you hate leveling so much, do a bunch of pvp, earn tomes of knowledge and level up your alt without having to play it.
Looks like you haven’t read up on the expansion yet. The Verdant Brink will have things like that with a day/night cycle. You collect resources during the day to fortify outposts and protect them from the Mordrem during the night.
I haven’t heard anything about content in the expansion. But I doubt this is anywhere near what I’m talking about.
The Dynamic events in game are just so boring and repetitive. There needs to be a bigger purpose to them all.
So I told you they exist, you admit you haven’t heard about them, don’t bother to educate yourself and then assume the worst. Seriously?!

If you went through the second half of living story 2, it would explain everything for you.
Keep your tumblr posts where they belong. Hint, it isn’t here.
Couple of examples of pay to win
http://mmos.com/editorials/pay-to-win-mmorpgs
1) the ability to get stronger and better gear with a purchase that can’t be acquired by playing the game
“Forsaken World has a stat called resistance which can be trained for in-game gold or cash. The cost of training it increases exponentially, so non-paying members can only realistically train their resistances up to a certain point, while those willing to open up their wallets can train it much, much higher.”2) debuffs put on players that require a purchase to remove in a reasonable amount of time
“Allods Online used to have a crippling debuff called “Fear of Death” that players would suffer through when they died. Players could wait up to 50 minutes for the debuff to go away on its own or pay for a removal with cash. This wasn’t seen as a pay for convenience, but rather “if I don’t pay, I can’t even play the game” sort of ordeal, since the debuff reduced offensive stats by a staggering 25%. "
That isn’t the only problem with Allods Online. The rune system is also EXTREMELY pay to win. You only get access to some of them in game and they give an extraordinarily large amount of power. If you spend very large sums of money, you can become obscenely powerful. And I’m talking about hundreds of dollars. In some cases over a thousand.
Box sales and expansions don’t count as content is tied to them as well. If you are able to strictly buy power over other players, that is pay to win.
So if the power is in a box sale or expansion how is that not pay to win?
Didn’t I say microtransactions? Box sales and expansions aren’t those. They add content and longevity into the game. Comparing that to something unique you can get via the cash shop that gives you an advantage over non paying customers is a large difference.
For instance, anyone going into the new content is on a level playing field. People in the old content without the expansion even still get quality of life updates, but they just don’t get the new content. There is nothing to say that a person that just plays pvp will have to get the expansion, they will be just as competitive now as they will be once HoT launches. Nothing in HoT will give a numerical advantage over them. It’s just more options, ie more content.
It’s pretty much impossible to call anything in GW2 p2w as you can get gems from in game gold. So anything they add to the cash shop is basically just adding to the game. They are just trying out expansions since the little updates weren’t satisfying to a decent amount of customers. Since they are backloading content, they need revenue to fund it. That is why expansions cost money.
I wonder what people would call “League of Legends” if you could only buy the new champions with real money.
That would be pretty much the same. But blah blah blah. Yes Im wrong I know.
League is a Freemium game. It’s tough to compare the two. Also, you are wrong if you still don’t understand that an expansion is not Pay2Win. As others have stated, we’re not debating the definition of Pay2Win, as it is an established game payment method with a definition, but you are.
I’m talking about sPvP.
Also pay 2 win isn’t an established game payment method.
But it seems I’m talking to walls. I should have stopped 10 posts already…
Established game payment method? Of course it isn’t. That isn’t something they will advertise. “Come play our new P2W game! Give us cash and you win!” Pay to win is when you spend money on microtransactions to get an advantage over other players. Box sales and expansions don’t count as content is tied to them as well. If you are able to strictly buy power over other players, that is pay to win. I don’t understand why you refuse to acknowledge this.
Hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but neither Revenant nor any other class will be getting a melee staff, aka polearm.
Hate to burst your bubble, but the Revenant melee staff skills were datamined long ago.
Also, who would have thought that Revenant would have gotten ranged Hammer of all things. Melee Staff is far from unreasonable.
You honestly should have watched the video before making the post. Also, you are late, this has been posted several days earlier.
Hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but neither Revenant nor any other class will be getting a melee staff, aka polearm.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2tsiox/pax_afterparty_lessons_learned/
We talked polearms. No polearms in this expansion. Colin said “We warned the art team what the community would think when they saw the trailer, but they chose to make things the way they did.” It looks like a polearm but it is not. No word if they ever will be.
As for Warrior, my vote for weapon specialization (although it’s not going to happen) is… no weapon! Bare fists all the way baby.
They said it specifically wasn’t a polearm and Revenants are speculated to use staves. You are coming to a false conclusion.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revenant#Weapons
Also, when you go into reaper shroud, you are wielding a scythe, regardless of what weapons you had before. It’s like how no weapons are shown when you use death shroud now.
You guys honestly sound exactly like the guy claiming HoT is p2w. Numbers are far from final and you are claiming that the new stuff will give them increased power. Amazingly shortsighted and missing the fact that number balance will happen. Some numbers might go up, some numbers will go down. We have no idea what the final numbers will be like so claiming there is a power creep is completely baseless assumptions. You are complaining to complain.
I’m cool with characters getting stronger, but I’m also totally happy to admit that it’s happening. The trait change is in almost every case a big power boost. The Elite specs seem to, in most cases, be stronger than their base classes. Yes the numbers are in flux, but it’s a totally reasonable discussion.
It really isn’t. The traits aren’t final. Numbers aren’t final. Just combining some traits doesn’t equal more power. It’s nothing but assumptions based on alpha numbers and footage.
Yeah, my complaint about immobilization is that occasionally even after I have cleansed it, I still have to do an emote to be able to move and when you are melee in a bomb, well, you just don’t have the time for that.
Not even sure if that is being investigated. Seems like it has been that way forever.
Never had that problem. No idea how that happens.

Oh didn’t you hear? Warrior is going to be the newest high concept class, the “Dragonbrawler”. It’s going to use a really mature thematic.
Ok, “Jon”.
What power creep are you imagining? Exotic armor will be the same as it is now. Ascended will be the same as it is now. The only adjustments will be for stats being removed from traits and being put on gear, but the numbers should be the same.
Power creep comes from merging of traits to create much more powerful traits and build options, as well as giving 3 GMs instead of 2.
That’s not power creep. That’s changing mechanics and the meta. Do you honestly think nothing will be balanced?

It’s would be completely nonsensical and has no lore president. It makes no sense and is based on some weird delusion of yours.
So you’re saying you merely looked at the wiki page and decided to make this thread without actually searching for info on what you said.
Was not a spare of the moment topic, its some thing I have be frustrated with for over a year.
As a mes, Immobilizing a target is a 50/50 thing ( clone has to get to the target first), and its not that strong, 2seconds, if it works, yet the number of times I get hammered by it. Some classes just seem to be OP when it come to this condition.
I admit I was confused by the skill, I thought “brake stun” would get me out it of ( felt like being stunned)
It would be nice if they either spread the love, or cut it back for some.
HoT gives them the perfect opportunity to make some changes to it.
As I said before, get condi cleanse. Mesmer’s have several options. They probably have traits that help too, but Mesmer is one of my least played classes so I am not terribly familiar with everything they do. You have 4 total utility skills that have some form of condi cleanse, try those out.
Actually, with the right traits, it seems that as long as you are in combat, you could be in reaper shroud almost continuously if you aren’t being focus fired.
Why do people misinterpret “Zerker is the best equip choice” to mean “damage is the only thing that matters”?
Because in dungeons, damage is the only thing that matters. Speed, efficiency and cheesing boss mechanics. It’s why I don’t run dungeons because I hate that mentality.
I wouldn’t bother too much with how you look while leveling. It is a bit annoying, but unless you want to burn charges, it’s worth just getting to 80, getting some exotic armor and then transmuting.
Nothing? Seriously? For utility skills alone, Mesmer’s have 4 skills that can deal with immobilization. It’s a condition. Cure the condition and you can move.
really? I had no idea. I was going of the wiki page. or when ever I use a cure con, I must get hit again right after I use it.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Immobilized
Those are just skills or traits that specifically mention immobilization. But it’s still a condition and if you clear conditions from yourself, that also clears immobilization.
I honestly miss the holy trinity, but I don’t think it will ever fit into GW2. They would have to do some massive fundamental changes to the game that I don’t see them ever doing.
One reason I play purely pve is that I’m not a competitive person. I like working with people, not against them.
Looked human male to me. Maybe Sylvari male. Hard to tell with full armor.
its high concept stuff, use your imagination.
God, I hate PR speak like that. It’s patronizing and feels like the devs are speaking down to us like we don’t have a clue how things work. There is nothing ‘high concept’ about dragonhunters.
http://www.writersstore.com/high-concept-defined-once-and-for-all/
That’s a decent rundown of what high concept is and dragonhunter is nowhere close to that.
Nothing? Seriously? For utility skills alone, Mesmer’s have 4 skills that can deal with immobilization. It’s a condition. Cure the condition and you can move.
My vote? Shamisen.
The new female charr hairstyles are horrible. Even if someone offered to pay me money to get them on my charr I wouldn’t take it.
Orly? What if they offered to pay you one MILLION dollars.
I admit, I would do almost anything for that sum of money. But for like 10 bucks or so? Nope, wouldn’t do it.

Already been brought up and thoroughly debunked. Retailers know nothing. It will be mid to late August at the absolute earliest.
the retailer in question is NCSOFT.

Well yeah, of course it is. Do you honestly think they set the date? Come now, you can’t be that naive.

It really can’t. Reaper has different connotations. Reapers are servants of Grenth, the god of death. They symbolize much like our own grim reaper. There are lore reasons that make Reaper make sense for Necros. Dragonhunter doesn’t make sense at all for Guardians, no matter what Anet says. I’m generally fine with the spec, the name is just nonsensical.
It would have that deep connection to Grenth and his Reapers for humans in Tyria, sure. The other races would probably just connect the word “reaper” to a general (non-Grenth related) bringer of death, and that could be applied to anyone who kills a bunch of people/things. Like the pvp title implies.
Sorry, but everyone knows about Grenth’s reapers. Hell, we barter with one in the personal story. These aren’t things that are lost to the ages. They exist.
The problem is more with what dragonhunter symbolizes in Tyria. We are all hunter of elder dragons and their minions. Yet Guardians get a specialization that makes them extra special at fighting them? It just doesn’t make sense. Reaper for Necro? It makes all the sense in the world. How can you even compare the two?
The same can technically be said for Reaper as well. Especially since it’s already a title in-game that any profession can get.

I want to hear about Tempests, Druids and whatever Thieves will be. I was kind of interested in the Guardian spec, but traps aren’t appealing to me in the least.
but guys if we look from one side.. isnt “reaper” as generic sounding as “Dragon hunter” : ) ?
They are almost in all games. Now I really dont get it… why there was such big WhoOoO about DH
I don’t consider reaper generic at all. Only game that I know about has reaper as a class name. Though mostly garbage f2p games, I’m sure there is at least a half dozen with dragon hunter classes.
It’s going to be slightly pay 2 win at least on certain classes. You are limited on what you can do and the elite spec MIGHT be strong at the current meta/patch.
Imagine dagger for the ele would be a elite spec.
Would that be pay 2 win now?
You can’t apply that here. Expansions aren’t pay to win. They add new content to the entire game that you get access to by paying the fee. You want that content? Buy the expansion. You aren’t entitled to free stuff.
What you went completely off topic. And it still doesn’t change the fact, that you can potentially be in a disadvantage without the expansion. Which IS pay to win in some degree.
Pay to win would be if they did something like making an epic gear or whatever 10 times more powerful than anything else in game and made it available only through a transaction involving real money. That way, if you spend money to buy that epic gear you are paying to win, since no one without the same gear wouldn’t stand a chance against you, and you HAVE to spend money to get this gear.
GW2 does not do that! You pay for the game, and then you have the option to pay for things like weapon and armor skins, you cannot pay to become a god on the game.
On the expansion, you will pay to get extra content. That extra content involves changes to te classes, but we have no evidence at all that the specializations will be extremely overpowered when compared to the old classes, probably not, since they didn’t even raise the level cap.
More powerful? Probably yes.
Extremely overpowered to the point that any one running a specialization can trash anyone running an old class? Very unlikely.Every little advantage that you get by paying with real money IS pay to win.
Pay to win doesn’t mean you always win, it simply means you win more often than you actually should because you paid money to get an advantage.
Expansions aren’t pay to win. You are just being resentful that you have to spend money after all this time. Just be truthful to yourself. Anyone that wants any of the new content will be getting HoT. If you don’t, you will still get some fundamental changes and still be competitive. Nothing the new content will bring will make anything you have done up to this point useless and invalid. Your fears are beyond paranoid.
You totally missed the point. I will buy the expansion anyway so there are no fears at all. LOL
I’m just stating that you MIGHT get an advantage by buying the expansion and by not buying it you MIGHT get a disadvantage.
But I think the chances are very high because otherwise all elite specs will be weak and to say the will be balanced is dream thinking. There will always be stronger and weaker builds, maybe depending on the current meta.So are you saying that it might be pay to win until they manage to balance all of it and depending on the meta?
It is not pay to win. The specializations will certainly be better, since if we both play as rangers but my ranger can equip a staff and your ranger can’t, that means my ranger can do one thing yours can’t, therefore it is better. But that does not mean that having a staff makes me unbeatable, or overpower, or even mean that the staff is better than the longbow that you can equip as well.
It just means that I have an extra option.
It will not be balanced because the game is not 100% perfectly balanced yet. Maybe specializations will be OP, maybe they will be competitive with the older classes, just giving the player more options (notice that I ditched the term ‘powerful’ that I sed before) than older classes, or maybe even some of them will suck and at the end for a while before we get the nerfs and buffs and a druid end up being weaker than a mesmer…
We can’t know details for sure yet, but it is not pay to win.
Just because you have the option of the elite spec doesn’t make you any better than any other ranger. It’s an extra option. It’s just a new build. They will have no more power to kill someone else, no more defense than someone else. They just have different skills that means you have to fight them a different way. There is ZERO advantage.

Of course it won’t be perfectly balanced. Never has been, never will be. Some new specs won’t be part of the meta, others will. I fail to see your point. It’s like you want it to be a p2w situation when it can’t be. The meta will change, the new traits will make some builds better and some worse. Those without HoT will have access to some of it. Some of it might be part of the meta, some won’t. Meaning having the expansion gives no inherent advantage, just more options. It’s not like you can change your build mid match.
Heck, rumor has it that we won’t get any more elite spec reveals for a few weeks. And beta probably won’t start for real until after all the specs have been shown off. We are months away from beta and that will probably last at least a month in itself. I would be impressed if we saw HoT before August, but I’m not holding my breath.

Right, so a reaper without a scythe is not a reaper, but you give them greatsword instead of adding a new weapon? That is a nonsense, really.
They do get a scythe. Try and read the blog before posting. Reaper shroud, which replaces death shroud, turns your weapon into a scythe while it’s active. It’s even in the video.
