Things That Should be brought up due to the
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

No one is going to read all that. At the very least format it into paragraphs and make some bullet points for pertinent information. All people will see is a monstrous wall of text.
If you just want to talk about current content, why are you in the HoT forum? And we won’t be just stuck in one area. Even the one area that we know of has 3 strata and there will be repeatable adventures all over the current map. To unlock masteries we will likely have to venture all over the world.
its nothing to do with where it should or shouldnt be placed in context, its really about making the game less gated for casual players that shouldnt be forced into gold sinks or time gates, none of those are fun for players and there is nothing to say that some of the areas in the jungle couldnt host the correct environment to grow these plants after all it is a jungle
But you don’t know how we will get the new infusions, how good they will be or how they will be gated if at all. You are fear mongering and making assumptions based on that. For all we know the new infusions will pile up like bloodstone dust and you will be tossing it out in stacks as it piles up. You don’t know.
ok what have they written other then that you will get masterys in the core world and what other lines have they said other then the precursor ones.
Do you with a straight face say that people being able to craft all the legendarys we have atm will make them not play with the people who cant craft them?
Masteries will be available in the core world, but based on what information we have in that vein (which at present is purely that blog post), accessing the mastery system period requires Heart of Thorns. So yes, I am straight-faced saying that it would be a bad thing.
Masteries are mostly for expansion content. Why give masteries to people that can’t even use them?
Masteries are exclusive to region, including the core game region. So they are very usable by people who only have the core game.
They let you fight things you couldn’t fight before, so opening up new areas. And giving your lore and new places to explore. I don’t see how in the hell you can equate that to levels. Your stats won’t change. Once you can fight the new monsters, your damage will be the same.
…except where Mordrem armor nerfs your damage output into the ground of irrelevance. That’s an example that’s already been stated by the developers. It doesn’t have to be raw stat numbers to still be vertical progression.
You are cherry picking. Some parts of the mastery system will work in some parts of the current world. Definitely not the whole system and definitely not everywhere. Probably just in the new adventures, which will be locked into the expansion.
And you aren’t getting it with the Mordrem. You simply can’t kill them until you get the mastery unlock. It really is no different than finding a key and opening a door, getting a glider to get to a new ledge or learning a language to open a sealed passageway. What is impossible made normal, what is impassable made traversable. Leveling is a gradual increase in your abilities, not flat out unlocking new areas. You gradually get better and can eventually tackle larger problems because you have higher stats.

They wouldn’t make any sense being in Maguuma.well they said that the mastery system was going to have better infusions for fractals but that still gates the original infusions and why would a plant not grow in other area’s ? that like saying my cactus wouldnt grow in a plant pot because it doesnt belong in one
Come on, really? Why would a cactus that grows on a rocky island grow in a jungle? Completely different climates and soil types. Plants don’t just grow with dirt and water. And just because a new infusion comes along doesn’t mean anything has to change for the current infusion.
Masteries are mostly for expansion content. Why give masteries to people that can’t even use them? And I don’t even get your second problem. They let you fight things you couldn’t fight before, so opening up new areas. And giving your lore and new places to explore. I don’t see how in the hell you can equate that to levels. Your stats won’t change. Once you can fight the new monsters, your damage will be the same.
How about asking for new content instead of revised old content? Maybe something better than infusions? Or easier to make?
Did you miss the part where each specialization will open up a weapon for a class that they couldn’t use before?
Did you miss the part where they won’t add new weapons? They won’t add spears, great axes, fist, crossbow, etc.
You probably misinterpreted it. Specialization won’t let me use spears on land, it lets me use a staff for a ranger.
And you will have new skills based on the staff. I know fully well what they plan. I would prefer they actually add those weapons in instead of the stopgap you are suggesting. I would prefer greataxes in game instead of a hammer with the greataxe skin.

Rev skill looks like Killing Spree from WoW

You’re trying too hard. Many games before WoW have had this move. It’s been in cartoons as well. Does this honestly need a post? He either becomes mist or slips through space using mist. I’m sure the skill tooltip will tell us.
Less joke weapons and less ridiculous over the top ones as well. Pistol and scepter are prime examples of both extremes. I think they are both horrible.
The reason she kept dying by flying there is that it was off limits to the demo. Text popped up giving a warning before killing her.
I wish they didn’t show Beta footage in POI, it has attracted a toxic crowed of players to the live-streams. I enjoy watching POI, i enjoy the fan art, i enjoy the casual banter of the panel.
All these new viewers who have never watched POI before are super annoying me, i wish they would all go away or at least be respectful and not troll chat.
Yeah, this thread is proof of the saying “This is why we can’t have nice things.” It was a quick bonus episode and people are hating on it. They didn’t have to do this. They don’t really have to tell us anything. Good god guys, why are you so negative? They didn’t show us a lot of stuff because the expansion is nowhere close to ready and they have to slowly trickle info to us to keep interest going. They aren’t going to tell us everything months out and then say that’s it, time to wait.
This in here – mastery system

That is you assuming. We have no actual details from Anet themselves.
I really miss how weapons and skills worked when the game first came out. Find a weapon your class can use? Use the weapon. Want new skills? Use the weapon. Only snafu was underwater weapons. That was tedious as I am not a fan of underwater combat. Other than that, I hate everything being so stringently level locked. I mean, first level all you get is auto attack and heal. That is insanely boring and doesn’t show off anything of how the game is.
In all the time I have played GW2 I have opened only maybe 24 chests or so. I have 3 scraps. I haven’t seen one in months. #richpeopleproblems
I am honestly surprised anyone likes Trahearne. If he could be killed by the hour, I would be there every time, rewards or not.
Orr is still a bit of a nightmare just to walk across. Not as kittenouthsun Cove.
You expect too much. Anything that requires player voice acting requires a LOT of work. It’s not going to happen, just like we will probably never get a new race as they would have to develop a personal story from 1-80 with all new voice acting for that race. New revenants could just be others that step from the mists.
And they haven’t mentioned anything on how Revenants will start, so why would they make it different? Continuity? That’s nice, but class is never really refered to in the personal story. Hell, it’s disconcerting as hell to do the personal story now with all the things ruined or altered in the world by the living story. Personal Story came first, yet still got altered because of the Living Story. Why would that change now?
Revnant needs to be a hero class with it’s own storyline.
I don’t see why. No one of any class is treated special in any way. Race was the only thing that mattered and that lasted until level 30. After that, you are the hero. Race/gender/class, none of that mattered.
Might want to watch the video again. You will still be 80. Other people will still see it. You will still see it. But it will also show your mastery level. At the same time. One will not supersede the other.
" In fact, once you have unlocked the ability to train Masteries, your nameplate will display the number of Mastery points you have gained rather than your level. Mastery points can be gained at any level but cannot be spent until level 80."
- Official news blog
That’s pretty stupid, but it will still be obvious that they will be visually different than normal levels. But how will that display with someone with mastery levels on a low level character? Masteries are account wide so once they have masteries worked on, even a level 1 would technically have them, though probably wouldn’t be able to use them.

I think something like a story instance would be best. The Elder Dragons shouldn’t feel like normal, commonly respawning bosses.
I don’t understand the complaints about Zhaitan though. Do you really expect that personally slashing a creature the size of a mountain would accomplish anything? Keep in mind, Zhaitan was scaled down from canon for performance issues. Kralkatorrik spanned a Guild Wars 1 zone. These things could squash an army without even noticing they were there. Confronting one of these things with a fleet of airships is one of the only things I can imagine actually working. The problem with Zhaitan wasn’t that we blew a colossal creature away with anti-dragon-powered siege weapons, it was other pacing and context issues.
Zhaitan fed on magic. Could have tried to give him bad magic that weakened him. Maybe set up a field to drain the magic from him. Asuran shrink ray. Anything other than the stupid King Kong fight where you aim a cannon at him while he calmly clutches to the side of a building while you repeatedly press 2 over and over again. After he dies, you don’t even get to see his corpse. He falls into the fog, never to be seen again. Even if we had to walk up to his body with a torch and light it on fire, it would have had more closure.
It isn’t our fault Anet wrote themselves into a corner making Elder Dragons so monstrously huge and making them the big bads we had to fight. They set them up as the enemies, it is up to them to make the fights compelling and rewarding. Turrets are NOT compelling or rewarding. They remove you from combat.
Actually the game can support it and before you reply to this post and say things like they don’t have enough time or money let me remind of you three things. The complete makeover of FFXIV, Blizzard adding flying to the old world which was a complete remake as far as coding and they did it during an expansion development period, and the complete redux of the flying mechanic in Aion in new zones.
History shows us that it is indeed very easily possibly for the coding to be complete if not by launch then just after it.
You are missing the point. The game is built around ground travel and waypoints. Jumping puzzles, vistas and just how the zone is consumed. Put gliding in every zone would ruin the game. And that is the truth. This isn’t about the tech. It’s about destroying what makes GW2 what it is for a novelty. I am surprised you even think this way as someone that plays the same game as the rest of us.
Actually it’s not fun or necessary and there are precedents showing changes made to the gliding mechanic in other titles out there to eliminate this bar. There are several from Archeage to Aion to WoW none of them use this method anymore because of the problems that come along with having a limited amount of time being airborn. They do however have dismount mechanics in which someone who is hit by an attack takes them out of that gliding mode so there is that to consider if they really wanted to limit it during combat or PVP that would be acceptable but not allowing people the ability to glide endlessly while airborn just makes it less realistic because look at real life here, if you get on a hang glider and you get airborn it doesn’t suddenly retract because some invisible meter that is giving you a limited time use and make you fall to your death. Also, hang glider riders always have safety measures irl now like parachutes if something goes wrong they can open one to catch their fall.
If they implement meters they need to at the very least provide straight down parachutes to prevent deathgliding. It’s only sensible.
You are looking at it all wrong. This isn’t a means to explore. It’s a means of getting to places normally inaccessible to you in specific maps. Think of it as earning the right to use it via masteries to get a jumping puzzle to a new area. It’s really no different than that. You are trying to make it something it isn’t designed to be and the game can’t support.
Only in the new maps we get with HoT. My first gut reflex is no in the new Borderland, but y’know, they could have designed that one with gliders in mind.
Gliders will not be available in the old maps, be they PvE or WvW.
Considering how much vertical space is in the new borderland, it seems like it is designed with gliding in mind. Just a guess.
Not interested in guild halls being minigames.
I am 2 zones away from completing my 11th map completion and have a further 2 chars who have fully mapped WvW and so far i have zero (0) legendaries ( I know I counted them twice ) . The reason I don’t have any is because I think (for the most part) they look ridiculous (personal preference and all that jazz)…so why do I map …gives me something to do and out of all the reknown hearts in game there are only a small handful I would consider a “pain”
Yep, probably only about 5 hearts or so that I absolutely dread. One at the top is the stealth flag one in north eastern blazeridge. Second is, once again north east, in diessa. People always keep the portal to Rhand open and it means that flame legion are only there for events, so getting the heart is about waiting for the event to spawn.
Hop on my main of the time, choose a specialization and try out the new skills. I will roll a revenant eventually, but it isn’t a top priority for me.
All charr, all the time. Only other race I like is Asura, but they are too small to enjoy much as anything you transmute is wasted since you have to zoom out far to actually play the game.
I don’t mind new ways to get to new areas, just as long as it isn’t a repeat of Dry Top. I have yet to get out of the first area near the entrance. I get the crystals, but it’s such a mess of things all over that I can’t figure out where to go, nor do I want to. I’m average at best when it comes to jps. Hearing that zones will have 3 levels is not really enticing to me. And if they don’t do it right I can imagine the lag will be immense. The grove and rata sum can REALLY cause issues with fps because of the layers of doodads and stuff to render. Can you imagine full zones with tons of people in them since it will be brand new?
I want it to be a fun adventure to move around, not painful precision movements and timed jumps. If they can do that, then I’m sold. If it’s another Dry Top, I probably won’t even buy the expansion to be honest.
Meanwhile over in the corner Engis weep about their forced hobo sacks…….
Bah engineers are getting flying turrets.
Where did you see that?
It was in the trailer. Dude with the hammer and 3 flying drones was a specialized engineer most likely.
Those are mines, they behave like a shield.
Really? I didn’t see them explode.
They disappeared as soon as the engi got close to the 1st mob
No, his charging into the mobs just leaves them behind. They didn’t explode, they just went offscreen when he moved faster.

Heck, if it came with a free slot or two I would pre-purchase the expansion asap.
The is one of the major gripes I have with pve right now in the way conditions stack. It makes condition builds in large groups mostly worthless. Will this be fixed and allow for individuals to stack their own conditions instead of communal stacks?
