Well I don’t know if this means anything or if I’m reading too much into it but from the Spec Part Two Primer
Last paragraph says “As long as you’ve purchased Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, you’ll automatically unlock access to all elite specializations in PvP.”
What if this means those who have not purchased HoT will have to unlock them in Spvp first? Just a tidbit I noticed.
No, if you haven’t purchased HoT, you don’t get access. Period.
We’ll see ont he fractal bit, my hopes aren’t very high with the level of power creep we’re seeing.
I think you’re overselling the power creep a little.
They could as simple as raw-scale the crap out of post-50 and power creep would be the least of our problems.
I don’t think so at all. Guard will be able to maintain the support it has while gaining a huge amount of damage. Engi will be able to raise it’s support a ton while likely increasing it’s damage a little. Ele will get slightly better damage with staff, though it’s support options will drop a tad, but staff is already the go to with such high damage. Warrior is just going to be amazing damage while providing 25stacks of might. Only Guardian in that set have we seen the Elite specialization which if goes unchanged will be even more damage on top. Thief is also going to see a boost if the traits go live as is.
But yeah, if we get post 50 fractals that may help, but have they confirmed that? I may have missed it but wasn’t aware of any confirmation on what is to happen with fractals other than specializations, which again I worry will just result in some power creep.
But, you do know me, pessimistic to the end
so maybe I am, but everything I’ve seen has pushed me in that direction, it’s not completely unfounded pessimism.
Numbers are far from final. Saying anything is a huge amount of damage is seeing things in a vacuum with no comparison and also assuming nothing will change. Are you really that naive?
Naive? I think it’s more just my lack of faith in this game. I’ll refer back to my last comment in the quoted.
To elaborate on that a little, I think some of the ideas are awesome, but if they don’t reign in the power creep, I think they’re going in the wrong direction. But, if the powers that be want to push people to get the expansion through the promise of increased power (would not be the first game to do that at all) then so shall it be.
What power creep? There are no new levels, there is no new tier of gear. Elite specs will be on par with core trait lines. If the numbers look large in the ready up videos, maybe it’s the same for the current traits/specs? Don’t assume the worst when you have zero information.
Yup, things could be tweaked. I’m voicing my concern, is that a problem? I could have sworn I heard them ask for feedback in the video.
You don’t need new gear or levels to have power creep. Going from 20-30% in modifiers to 50% in modifiers is power creep, those things add up quick.
I’m saying that numbers are in complete flux at the moment. They aren’t even sure of what they want them to be. There has been ZERO outside testing of them. Giving feedback on something they aren’t even sure about is a waste. Give feedback on things that they can actually make use of. Numbers are some of the last things to get worked on before things go live outside of bug squashing. It is simply too early to worry about what trait does what percent.
My biggest gripe is that gems are getting stupidly expensive. Just now I checked and it’s 78g for 400 gems. It’s outrageous. So now I’m just sitting on gold that I want to buy gems with because the price is out of control. Super fun. =/
Leveling is easy and it goes by so fast that for the most part I have masterwork gear on. Some levels it’s better to get some blues and sell them when you are done with them. Other times when you get higher level, you are rewarded more frequently with rares. But I never use exotics to level, even if they are free. You level so fast that you never get to enjoy it. Get them for the skins and then salvage them to save bag space.

I hate when MMORPGs mess with old content to keep it up with the current story. It messes with the old story. Like going through the personal story on a new character and Lion’s Arch is wrecked before Scarlet ever showed up. It’s stupid and inconsistent. Just leave it alone and make new content. Leave old content alone.
Interestingly enough, the Living World was supposed to be all about changing the world. See the destruction of Lion’s Arch fountain a billion times, the Tower of Nightmares, the new Teq, and so on.
Until ArenaNet decided it didn’t work, and tried using the Season 2 model.
Until ArenaNet decided that also didn’t work, and tried using the “season 3 in a box” HoT model.
Is it me, or do we see a pattern here? Does anyone else think that HoT also will not work?
As a returning player, season 1 is an abject failure. Unless there is a way to catch people up to things that have happened, the story becomes white noise. “What’s going on? Who are these npcs? Are they important?” I missed season one so all I have to show for it is a messed up world and a season 2 story that I couldn’t care less about since I have zero context for it. Removing story from a persistent game is BAD. There are no ways around it. People take breaks, new players join all the time. Having them be completely out of the loop for the story and uninvested in the lore is unacceptable.
Unless it comes from Arenanet, it’s just speculation. They are just guessing and it’s not official. Retailers have been doing this for decades.

BOR-ING!
It is supposed to be a living story.
Haven’t you noticed that the living story is mostly instanced in chapters? It largely doesn’t affect the main world after season one. It creates problems. Call it boring all you want, but it isn’t sustainable. At least with the current infrastructure.

I always asked this in WoW; why would killing this boss and that blabla keep the area as it is? Just a problem we have in MMOs. Live with it.
Frankly, they should keep all content as it is and put phases in for new content if they must. Cataclysm ruined the old world in more ways than one. I absolutely hate what it did. Last thing I want to see is a revamp like that in any other game and have it similarly ruin so much content.
I used to like the phased approach. It allowed story progression in a zone, and you saw visible changes.
I liked it until I wanted to play with a lower-level player, like a friend or my brother, and couldn’t even be seen. I’ve since changed my opinion on phasing. :\
The problem with Blizzard phasing is the lack of player options. You should be able to group with someone and then choose whose phase you are a part of. Phasing is fine, it just needs fine tuning.
I’m really disappointed. We haven’t really had an update for months now, and just when I think today they’ll at least reveal the juicy bits of the necro spec, all we get is a few things added back to the gemstore and a reminder about the dragon hunter ready up… Like, really?
This has me extremely worried about the future of gw2. I can see why some have left and moved onto other games :-/
Reveal will be Thursday, with a Ready Up coverage on Friday. Exactly like the last 2 weeks.
gem store was updated, have fun with it
What if I already own all these old skins?
Dye kit lottery was added. Have fun kittening away gems to get common dyes.
Of course discuss them. The mechanics and the idea on them. Placement and theme. Numbers aren’t something they are working on yet.
Numbers are in a very early stage. Don’t expect any of the numbers they show to be final. Wait until we can actually test them before freaking out.

I won’t demand change or say that I hate it and it’s the worst thing ever, but I do think the name is a bit silly and even with the explanation given it doesn’t sound like something a Guardian should stand for. Everything about the Guardian has always been about support and defense. All their offense has been in the theme of that. The name “hunter” is in complete opposition of that theme. It’s like taking a Knight of the Crown, a defender of the realm, and turning him into a Crusader. His job has changed, he is no longer doing what he was originally given his title to do.
While I’m not thrilled about traps as a mechanic, the traits and weapon skills seem pretty fun. I won’t comment on the name, but it looks like something that I will pick up on my guardian. Saying I like it more than chronomancer is weird, but I just don’t like time mechanics at all, so that is a no brainer for me.
I put in about maybe 3-4 hours total for this event. About all I can stomach of SW to be honest. No portal, no big deal.
A “right click to consume all” option would be best.
A warrior with no bow going after sea dragons. I don’t think it has anything to do with the Guardian specialization.
I will say this. I would buy the parts I’m missing of Season 2 LS if I could actually play through LS S1.
For me personally, I think it sounds horrible. I’m sure some people would love it, but I would absolutely dread it if things like that happened. I don’t like mesmers and I don’t want elementalists to be like them. I already don’t like traps for guardian. It just sounds really bad to me.
What's going to happen to The Hunter skin?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

In the same blogpost you can read:
The second collection in your journey involves doing your research, talking to the experts, and honing your craft. You’ll need to barter for knowledge, seek out great minds and convince them to teach you their tricks, and prove your ability at the crafting workbench. All this work allows you to refine your base precursor into its next iteration. Completing this collection unlocks a recipe to do just that, resulting in another nontradable exotic weapon with the existing precursor skin.
No, that doesn’t really answer it. Will this still be the only way to get that skin?
The hate and whining is a bit crazy. While I’m not thrilled with Dragonhunter, anything about it to be honest, it doesn’t upset me enough to rant and rave about. The names a bit silly, the skills for the bow seem a bit mediocre and traps just don’t sound fun. BUT, you don’t have to use it. And the new virtues sound kind of fun. We will get more info from the Ready Up Friday.
Maybe next expansion. As you know we are getting guild halls first.
Firstly, what race? The two non human races have different armor looks than the human ones.
EDIT: Looking it over, Studded might be your best bet.
(edited by Ralanost.8913)
I believe that’s a trait reset token. Lol.
Isn’t that 100% useless now? I don’t see how that would change.
I have no idea what that icon is. You might want to explain it or provide a link to the wiki.
To me, it cemented how much I hated that area, especially in off hours when sometimes not even a single fort is stable. It’s boring, tedious and repetitive as all hell. I honestly don’t understand how people enjoy this content. Only positive is that I finally did Vinewrath, so there is that.
I honestly wouldn’t mind it somewhere on the UI. Unless you are doing the story, you can go a LONG time without seeing your name. Even more if you aren’t in a guild and don’t chat in map often. I’ve honestly played a few of my characters and forgotten their names.
As much as I enjoy this game, I get absolutely zero enjoyment out of dungeons. I honestly miss the trinity design and it just feels like stack might and win is all that happens. I want to love dungeons, I loved them in WoW for years (not anymore since they have been garbage since MoP), but GW2 dungeons and fractals just don’t do anything for me.
I made a second thief character just to run pistol/pistol/pistol/pistol with quick hands and warrior runes for constant swapping for constant pew-pew. He’s the unsneakiest thief of all time. He does very well.
I had to choose between Ricochet or Invigorating Precision and I always chose Ricochet.
Not as unsneaky as my thief. I go d/d and p/p. I never use dagger 5. None of my utilities have stealth. The only time I do stealth is because I’m bad and have the fall damage trait.
Different voice choices for pers/liv story?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Ralanost.8913
It simply won’t happen. The only way voice acting for something massive like MMORPGs will become more prevalent is when computers can synthesize text to speech more naturally. Voice actors aren’t cheap and the amount of speech in this game is immense. Do you realize how many different choices there are in the personal story? For each choice there is an actor voicing each race and gender combo. I think at one point they also wanted your responses to reflect your ‘personality’, but I think that was dropped at some point as it didn’t add much and is just prohibitively time consuming to include.
The fact that there is any voice acting at all and they are also fairly well known and respected is very impressive and not cheap. It’s simply impossible to ask for more.
. There are a couple niggles I just don’t agree with, but for the most part I think it’s a solid opinion video.
I read that wrong the first time and did a double take.
I was thinking of using another word, but it fit so I kept it.
I’m…36 I think? I honestly have stopped keeping track. So I guess so.
Don’t forget, some people that are part of the beta also got Heroic Chests. Thoroughly peeved now.
Pretty annoyed. If I knew they would be giving this out I would have tried harder for a beta invite. The hell? It’s like promotions isn’t talking to the dev team and vise versa. Pretty annoying to be honest.
Video from Wooden Potatoes talking about all the races he can think of that have a possibility of being playable. There are a couple niggles I just don’t agree with, but for the most part I think it’s a solid opinion video.
I mainly liked it because I never heard of Margonites before. With the switch of Abaddon’s power over to Kormir, I would love to see them as a playable race.
I see many are on the Paragon bandwagon as well as some completely against it. It’ll be interesting to see how things turn out.
I also notice a lot of names being used from existing words. Well technically, Chronomancer is a made up word so why not another? I thought Arcwing or Archwing might be a cool name for a specialization.
Chronomancer was actually planned for the original Guild Wars: Utopia expansion. It got canned when they decided to work on GW2 instead. So considering that Druid and Chronomancer both have roots in GW1, it isn’t a stretch to assume most, if not all, elite specializations will come from GW1 lore in one way or another.
Gliding is not flying. Nobody thought we would get flying combat when the black wings sold on the gem store and those guardian wings will likely be no different. You are making a wild and baseless assumption.
Looks interesting, can’t wait till the info goes up.
After testing several races in several different armor classes with several different weapon sets, I finally figured out my total overall favorite is female sylvari. Sadly, most of my characters are either norn or charr. So when I finally decide on a main for HoT, I will remake one of my current characters as a sylvari. Several of my characters have high level crafting that I refuse to get rid of. If there was a way to change the race of a character I would never make an alt of the same class.
I’ve suggested this before, and I’ll suggest it again. I’d love to see a system implemented like Eso and Tera where the mouse locks to the camera rotation unless you’re using it for the UI. My mouse is fine, but my middle finger has been feeling out of sorts because of constantly holding down the right mouse button.
If you mean what i call “shooter control” .. then god no .. i hate it when the camera
shakes all the time just because i move my mouse a little bit. Also i like to turn my
camera while running in a different direction or in fight and click some skill with
my mouse.
Shakes all the time? Do you have Parkinson’s? I have never had a problem with the camera in games like Dragon Nest or TERA.
LOL! Didn’t expect that…
Wow, it found the mask in the icon and used that as a face rather than her actual face. That’s harsh.

Anet can’t do this!?
They wouldn’t really do this?Charge us for an expansion pack that will degrade our characters.
Thats just screaming “find another game”
Exacly what i’m going to do if that plays out.
And it won’t. If you took a few minutes to read the blog you would know that wasn’t the case. This whole thread is people being lazy and paranoid and blowing things out of proportion.
Fall Damage Reduction mastery does make sense now that we will be gliding around. But then thats also a good case for it being a trait. In the base game its a fun little throw away for when you want to cut some corners when running about. Now, when your gliding past 6 wyvrens and you run out of glide-juice, its a tactical strategy to slot it
Now that the traitlines look like this, can you really find it easy to spend a few points for reduced fall damage? Switching whole traitlines might be needed if it doesn’t fit in a traitline for your build. It would be much better as a mastery.
(edited by Ralanost.8913)
Why do you guys want into beta so much? What do you plan to do with it? Will you actually test things and give feedback? Or is this you wanting to get into new content first? Some badge of honor? I honestly don’t get it. I have done many betas before and it’s honestly just unpaid testing and you lose all the fun of getting into the new content when it goes live.
Professions Specialization ''new weapons''.

revenant ALLREADY have a staff and mace and hammer and sword and shield
so the specialization i bet it will be Greatsword
especialy that devs said its a brawler type of class so NO RANGED weapon i hope.
i want greatsword
Hammer says hi. They can chuck the hammer at range.
so maybe I am, but everything I’ve seen has pushed me in that direction, it’s not completely unfounded pessimism.
