And I have no problem with your opinion that cosmetic only mounts would be a waste of resources.
I still question your statement that cosmetic only mounts would trivialize PvE and unbalance PvP though.
Sorry, I never thought someone would suggest mounts that literally do nothing other than have you sit on them.
I’d be all for getting rid of sylvari and making room for dwarves.
Other than the petrified one in the Priory, they are all dead. Even the Mursaat had more reason to be alive than dwarves do, and we supposedly hunted the “last” of them down in GW1.
Stop giving them ideas for the gem store. The game doesn’t need mounts. Kodan are interesting, but also a bit boring as bother genders are visually identical.
It doesn’t technically ‘need’ either one. And why not provide them ideas for the gem store? Think about it, if Anet had gone with a subscription based game, it wouldn’t have worked. However they chose a gem store, and through that have been quite successful. We as the community should tell them what we want, so that they, the developers, can maybe do so.
Because there is more than enough stuff in the gem store as is and not enough stuff to earn in game. In just the past 2 months, how much stuff has cycled through the gem store? And how much was added to the game? I think all that happened in game was the lunar festival back piece. Not terribly exciting.
Then perhaps you’re right and instead of adding it into the gemstore, they could integrate it into the upcoming expansion. Why not? At some point at the end of some amazing living story quest, we get a little… w/e it may be to ride around and be aesthetically pleasing? In that way, no spent money and you have to earn it to get it.
Mounts make zero sense in GW2. We can port to any waypoint we want. Jumping Puzzles take into account our height and possible speed as they are now. Mounts would be useless visual clutter so you can collect a pretty thing. And they would probably unbalance pvp. I see no net positive. Other than you collecting a pretty pony.
Isnt collecting useless (cosmetic) shinies much of what GW2 is about?
Are all of your characters still using the starter weapon/armor skins?
Did you not read? Mounts could cause balance issues in pvp and trivialize some things in the open world. The game wasn’t designed for mounts and it would ruin parts of the experience.
How would a purely cosmetic mount that provides no speed buff or any other game mechanic trivialize PvE and unbalance PvP?
No speed buff? So you want artists to waste their time making something more useless and requiring more effort than minis? Are you insane? Legitimately, are you? There are more important things that artists can be doing than wasting time on something that is less than useless. Their resources aren’t infinite.
No speed buff was integral to the suggestion, from the very first post in the thread. Perhaps I am not the one with reading comprehension issues ?
As mentioned before, collecting cosmetic options for your character has been a major part of the game since launch. Artists have been, “wasting,” their time on, “useless,” things such as weapon and armor skins since launch.
Since you skipped the question the first time around (perhaps that reading comprehension issue again) I will repeat it:
Do your characters all use the starter weapon and armor skins?
Or do you take advantage of useless, waste of artist time, purely cosmetic options?
The only cosmetics I have are armor and weapon skins. And those are there all the time. You can’t be on a mount all the time. You can’t fight on a mount. You can’t swim on a mount. I don’t use kites or transformations as I don’t like getting rid of my skillbar. Minis are too slow and just running often has them respawning next to you once they get too far away. So I will continue to say that mounts would be more of a waste of resources than any other vanity item in the game. Mainly because they have to create animations and rigging to the current models and would have to do so for every new mount. It’s bad enough they added in flying carpets that are essentially what you are asking for. They are useless and a waste of resources and I wish they weren’t in the game.

I’m still trying to figure out how people got to lvl 11 fractals and STILL don’t know what to do.
To be fair, I got a few people in my guild that live in fractals. If I hadn’t asked to know what is going on, they could easily have soloed most low level fractals and happily let me tag along for the rewards. Since I refuse to be a dead weight they were nice enough to tell me WTF was going on, so now I can help them and others.
Just saying, if you go with a good group, they will either ignore you and carry you if possible or just be fine having the challenge to do a fractal with less people. Unless you ask people what is going on, it’s very easy to be lost and dragged along for the ride.

I haven’t done a lot of fractals, my personal reward level is only 15. So no, I don’t have one.
Sadly, the NPE locked away a lot of features new players should have access to immediately for some reason. I guess Anet thinks new players are idiots? You used to be able to pvp from level 1-80. I thought that was a great feature even if I don’t pvp myself. One of the few things I loved from WoW years ago was being able to level up through dungeons. I wish there were more story mode dungeons and being able to “random queue” and just get in with some people and experience the game. The current interface creates anxiety and pressure.
But yes, since the NPE got introduced, you are essentially forced as a new player to do renown hearts until a new path opens up to you. Very restrictive and short sighted and against the principles on which GW2 was founded in the first place. I have no idea what they were thinking when they implemented it and I hope they fix the NPE for HoT, hopefully by just going back to how it used to be at worst.
As if it isn’t blatantly obvious that, for the most part, the Pale Tree is free of the majority of Mordremoth’s corruption. That can’t be said about other sylvari trees. Most sylvari we deal with are those of the Pale Tree’s Dream. Any we fight are of the nightmare or trees that never broke free of Mordremoth’s influence. Nothing will happen to player sylvari.
I would like a larger variety of staff skins. I find the vast majority of staves incredibly boring and unimpressive.
I have all these shinies, but I’m not special enough! I have to have a title to show I am truly a special snowflake! /s
No, there is no need.
Misclick? No.
Lose track of my cursor on the screen in the middle of fights because of all the particle effects? Yes.
Anyway to turn particle effects completely off?
I would appreciate a way to make my cursor a bit more visible on my screen at the least.

Hoping it’s $30 or less. I can see them asking for $40, but I would rather not. Yes it’s just 10 bucks, but I don’t have a lot of cash so every little bit matters. It’s one reason I can’t bring myself to buy gems with money as I don’t have any to spare.

I have fairly large hands. It’s hard not to mispress keys. I have to be fairly careful, but I fat finger keys more than I would like to admit. I just keep trying harder to be more precise.
I have barely any AP. I just got my 3500 chest not too long ago. I consider myself fairly skilled and my guildies will compliment me on occasion. There are a few people in my guild I recognize as my betters, but I can count them on my hands. That said, I have seen people with easily 5x my AP just stand in bad stuff and get one shot several times in the same boss fight, never learning from their mistakes. AP is absolutely inconsequential to skill. They are completely unrelated.
Simple fact is that the individual isn’t important, and there’s a majority that want raids. If a majority wants more wvw, you already know its coming. A majority wants more pvp, so thats coming. A majority also want raids, so its probably coming sooner or later..
Citation needed. You have no proof other than the word of you and maybe 5 others in this thread.
if you dont understand that other people have different wishes and if you are so jelly and entitled that you cannot grant them what they deserve, play a game that is designed for you. for example, a single player game. i heard there are many out there and still going.
This game was never meant for raiding. Aren’t you the one that is being entitled asking for a game designed for you when there are already other raiding games out there? Why change GW2 when something else is out there for you?
honestly, why are people saying a whole game mode shouldn’t be added for those that want over the issue of a skin set….
I hate raiding and the raiding community and I would rather that not be in the game. I would rather development resources go to gameplay that most of the playerbase would participate in. Not hard to understand. If you want to raid, play a game designed for it. I hear RIFT is still going.
Raids would be a major feature. They claim they have already announced all major features of HoT. Thus, it’s highly unlikely that Raids are coming.
fact is, if they are working on a raid, it probably wouldnt be ready when the expansion launches.
The question OP posted was about Raids being part of HoT. So, you seem to agree, that they won’t be, right?
for me, HoT isnt only the launch of the expansion. its also what will come after launch.
I hope not. I did WoW for almost 10 years. I’m done with raiding, thank you.
raid content doesnt mean they will delete every other content in the game.
This game is mostly about vanity. I don’t want anything to drop in a 10+ man raid that doesn’t drop anywhere else because I will never be able to get it. I despise organised large group content. I have done it enough times to just not like it anymore.
So cause you dont want it no one else should be able to earn a raid skin, I mean it is not like 99% of the other skin in this game are almost handed to you. Totally unfair that they would have one skin that required some work to get.
I am fine with small groups and solo content and I am fine with grinds and requiring effort. I am NOT fine with raids. It has nothing to do with working for it.
You are never the only one. You aren’t a special snowflake. You aren’t unique. Of course other people share your perspective. That’s only common sense.
Someone needs a hug.
Doesn’t everyone at some point?
Yep, it’s a horrible fight. Just brought 2 guildies through it. Even though me and another guildie were both saying how bad and disappointing the fight was, they still said it was “LAME”. But he is dead and gone. I am tired of fighting undead. It would be nice if they made the fight something more than king kong and turrets, but the story has moved on. I just hope any future dragon fights aren’t so horrible.
Champions were never meant to be solo friendly. Even elites can be really tough to solo, depending on their attacks. Normal and veteran mobs are what you solo. Been the case since forever.
Same goes for living story. If I don’t want to track it, get it off my screen. I deactivated it for a reason kitten it.
Specializations. No contest.
I just go back into the game around that time. I looked at the letter but it didn’t seem special. So I deleted it on all my characters. Nothing in the letter would lead me to believe I could get something useful like this.
You are never the only one. You aren’t a special snowflake. You aren’t unique. Of course other people share your perspective. That’s only common sense.
Did anyone else notice the tengu smack dab in the middle of the screenshot in the latest news post/preview of HOT??
I’m going to assume it’s just an NPC… but still… Dare to dream we get another playable race.
Choosing to ignore the skritt in the very same screenshot invalidating this whole line of thinking.
The write up is literally nothing. Fan videos from Bog Otter, Mattvisual and Wooden Potatos gave me all the info in a much better fashion.
i did. you said you dont want an item to drop in a raid that you cannot get from anywhere else. since there will never be better gear than ascended and no gear treadmill, i would like to know why you are afraid.
because if there is no content or better gear locked behind raids, there is nothing to be afraid of.
My very first sentence is about vanity, so I’m talking about skins. No where did I mention ascended gear or better stats. Your reading comprehension is horrible.
according to arenanet, skins are optimal in this game. optimal means they are in no way required to play the game. that argument doesnt work here.
The word you are looking for is optional. And they are the only real form of progression in this game, so no they aren’t optional.

Seems kind of small? You haven’t seen but the smallest fractions of the content. You have no idea how big it will be. We have no idea how expansive the map is in both width and height. We have no idea what story it will bring. We have no idea how long it will take to get enough mastery points to unlock all content. We have no idea how many adventures will be in the game and how enjoyable/repeatable they will be.
You are assuming the worst based on the smallest of sample sizes. Think again about your life choices.
It makes no sense! If you really, really don’t like your race, why don’t you just delete your character and make another one of the race you like? You’ll keep:
- Every AP and title you got
- Your McM rank and mastery points
- Your PvP rank and finishers
- Your legendary and ascended items
- Your crafting materials, gold, karma, dungeon tokens, etc. You’ll loose:
- Your exotic and lower should bound items
- Your PvE level
- Your Personal Story and Living World completion. You’d still keep the rewards and the achievements unlocked (including the order flag on the log in screen)Getting exotic gear and getting to lvl 80 is SO FAST in this game that you really have nothing to lose. The only problem you might have is if you have an exotic celestial armor set you really like, but you can replace it in 30 days, so no big deal. Don’t you think it’s easier than changing your entire background and personal story?
I have map completion and 450 tailor/weaponsmith on my ele. I’m not going to just throw those away. That said, I want to change my Charr to a Sylvari since Anet doesn’t know how to make armor look good on Charr.
I just throw it out. I won’t ever have mawdrey or the thing to use up the shards. So I just toss what I can’t use, which is all the excess at this point.
How about more stuff to earn in game instead? I would rather play the game than pay the game.

I honestly don’t want to do anything to unlock it. Jumping through some arbitrary hoops on every character to try out the specializations just sounds tedious and time consuming for no real purpose.
I can understand that, but the main reason I want to have to do something to unlock it is because I want something new to do in the game. I have a ton of 80s right now and I feel like I’ve done everything with them. Whenever I take a character out I still have fun playing them, the problem is that every time I try to think of what I should go do when I want to play everything I think of is something I’ve done many many times before. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll sit at the character select screen for 5 minutes trying to think of what to do and then just eventually exit because nothing sounds that interesting.
Unlocking specializations via a quest-like system would add more stuff to do and extend the life of HoT a bit. I know that no matter how good the new zones are after I’ve done everything in them 10-20 times I’m going to lose interest again so anything that makes that take a little longer is good in my opinion.
We will have new zones, new specializations, new traits, new weapons for each profession, masteries and everything else coming with HoT. There will also be repeatable adventures scattered across every map. Are those not enough?

Not my fault the devs don’t even know what to call the mechanics in their own game.
That’s the living world he is talking about, not the living story. Those are actually mechanically different things.
So . . . what events is he talking about filling the space, or ‘relay’, between expansions then? Also, you are aware that ‘Living World’ is part of the ‘Living Story’ . . . right?
Living Story is the stuff that you can do below your Personal Story. Living World events happened out in the actual game world. I don’t know why that is hard to understand.
Oh geez. I’ll try to find that YouTube interview again. . . .
Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIiqCW4WrFo&list=PLgUR4kRb88dVfLogkscClZNHeJgJ5KXwz
The comment starts around 5:00, but the ‘relay’ comment between the expansion and the Living World, where Living World fills the space between expansions, occurs at 6:30 or so.
We’ll see if it’s successful, but I imagine it should make everyone happy.
That’s the living world he is talking about, not the living story. Those are actually mechanically different things.
Misinformation and assumptions aside, I don’t plan to play a revenant. They don’t seem like fun to me. Lots of management that I don’t want to deal with. Deal with resources, cooldowns, buffs and conditions. Especially with the demon form. I am hoping specializations will be fun for me.
I’m curious, why do people ask this question? If you want to be a part of the game, you have to get the expansion. If you don’t…why are you playing? Do you just want to be a part of the current game and want time to stop for you? Certain, anything worth experiencing will require the expansion. It only makes sense. If you want to play the new profession, try the new specialization, have masteries, go into the new areas or be a part of the continued story, that is exclusive content to those that buy the expansion. This is a no brainer and common sense.

Thats something, that only a real lazy person would say…
Specializations aren’t something, with that you just get gifted with within the very moment of when you start the game after installing HoT.
Specializations belong to Character Progression and CHaracter Progression isn’t something, that you receive just for free. You have to work for it to get them.
Heaven forbid I don’t want to repeat content on all my characters just to see if I like the new specializations at all. If it took some effort but was an account unlock, fine. If it’s per character I won’t be happy. It’s like doing the personal story on every character. I don’t consider that fun at all. The first 2-3 times through was ok since I got to choose different orders and races and see it from a different side. After that it’s just the same stuff over and over.
Repetition isn’t fun nor should it be required for unlocking something that is a feature of an expansion. I forgot though, this is GW2 and people love doing the same stuff over and over. Like the living story and doing it all over again for achievement for extra loot. Repeating STORY content shouldn’t be praised.
