If they ever finish the arc from the human personal story you’ll get your wish. The Sylvari’s personal story seems to have come full circle.

Forgive me, its literally been years since I did any personal story in the core game…. where did human story tie into the Mantle?

The unknown parents line specifically has you go up against the cult. Not sure about the other choices.

Unless they can add functionality to the item which adds gliding capability. You can currently use the carpet and hit space to activate existing glider wings. I wonder if it is possible that when you hit the glider button, it just transitions into a glider that way.

Is Living World synonymous with Living Story?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

They are often interchangeable in certain contexts since Anet themselves have never correctly defined the pair – often using them in contradictory ways.

Ultimately many people interpret as below;

Living World – updates to the Game World in any form that makes changes, whther it includes episodic stories, events, maps, expansions. It’s pretty much the same as any other MMO update, just with a marketable buzz word

Living Story – the specific episodes mentioned above for the pve story

Kralkatorrik (SPOILERS)

in Lore

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

There must be some way of getting close to Jormag, with or without wards, since he already had a tooth knocked out by a Norn.

Jormag and Kralk admittedly could be tough to justice to, given their greater synonymity to primal forces compared to say Zhaitan and how much longer they have to build up the encounters and their own power compared to Mordremoth.

The Dragonspawn was an example of them writing a strong and deadly champion, but part of their immediate danger comes from their greater interaction with people/races. Elder Dragons appear to see the lesser races as we view flies or at least tools to use for their own gain. I suspect a fully powered up Mordremoth or less weakened Zhaitan would have been a very different fight.

That’s what makes the next Dragons more intriguing and unique for them to to design.

The Heart of Thorns serial code/box comes with the core game

The core game however, does not come with HoT.

It entirely depends which way round you bought this.

If you bought the old GW2 heroic edition, you will need to buy Heart of Thorns, since that is a separate paid expansion (that comes with the core game for free as an added extra).

What is the exact item you bought?

I’m not getting what is in it for us, for them to charge for content which is otherwise and has always been free.

I’m sure it would be a money spinner for them…however it would do serious damage to the relationship to its community. One that isn;t altogether healthy right now, before adding something like this on top.

They have already stated this is now an annual festival. I’d rather see it all year round, but I wouldn’t support paying for it when it is normally free.

Would you support ANet w/ bonus missions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I’ve supported them with gems, I’ve supported them with buying the collectors edition of both core and expac. As far as I am concerned, the money I have given is enough contribution (personally) to help fund their content. Whilst I am rarely critical of Anet (it is just a video game after all and getting wound up to the extent people do is not necessary when the World has proper things to get upset about), I don’t see the justification of more money for content, when we are still waiting for some of the content that has been paid for.

I know DLC’s are the current fad, but when you see “bonus” content for £20-£50 on consoles which amount to either nothing (Killer Instinct – 6 toons for £20 basic pack!!!!!) or content that was deliberately cut from core to make more money in (Battlefront), then I don’t think we should encourage Anet to do the same.

The blog post said:

“Guild Wars 2 is a huge game, and keeping it strong means making tough decisions about where to spend our time to best serve the most players. We decided we couldn’t justify the sacrifice to Guild Wars 2 to make more new worlds for SAB.”

Could a dev specify if that was just for this year’s SAB? Or.. Forever? Some people told me it’ll be a yearly festival and maybe get tiny gimmicky changes or maybe new skins but no new content and the thought of that breaks my heart.

To hear it straight from the Dev’s mouth, watch this week’s Guild Chat. Josh specifically addresses this question.

Good luck.

Leaving it in the game would be more beneficial at this stage after so long away.

Anet will give us plenty of surprises in content I am sure, but leaving SAB in and only updating it once a year or every 2 years, would be far better for community morale.

Mo said he wants to entertain us, keeping it permanent would fall under that banner imo

Dragons overused? *story spoilers

in Living World

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Never played the original GW nor do I know anything about the story there. Just that there were gods, that Charr used to be evil and some other tiny details. Which might have caused me to have a different idea about the story we’d get.

I kind of imagined the dragons to be like the embodiment of the forces of nature.
Beings as ancient and powerful as life itself. Unlike gods, they’d be neither good or evil and seemingly unstoppable once fully awakened. Like fighting a giant tsunami you unleashed yourself. Beings which do not have a conscience or feelings. Water drowns you without a second thought. It doesn’t care if you are good or evil.
An enemy which would unite all races and even gods in an attempt to just survive.
It is the reason why reusing such a cliche magical being didn’t bother me at all.

Just didn’t want to see another good fighting evil story. Something that shows you the many facets of gray instead. Even if nature awakening to strike back at the “humans” is yet another cliche at this point. I do understand that others prefer to have a more basic story with clear sides. It is a matter of personal taste in the end.

You can imagine how disappointed I was after Zhaitan and his army of the undead and the very disappointing last fight. That combined with how all of the personal stories always lead to Trehearne in the end took away any interest in the story I might have had.
Although, the short focus on Caithe was great. She has always been my favorite member of the whiny heroes club by far.

How you interpreted the Elder Dragons, was how many of us took them as well. I didnt even expect to outright kill one. Maybe neutralise or make it dormant. Mordremoth certainly was an improvement, but they are still dropping too easily for my liking. I understand we are more technologically advanced than older races, but we still took down Mordy too easily for a “Force of Nature”.

Jormag and Kralk are set up as strong forces of nature and it will be interesting to see how we approach them. Blizzards, hurricanes, storms….we have lots of obstacles that can be thrown into the fight

[PREDICTION] April Fool's Day Prank

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

This will be my first April Fool’s day in GW2 but they will have to work hard to beat the GW1 “stick man” thing. All max level toons were drawn as stick men. I found it laugh-out-loud funny, first because, you know, it was proper funny and, second, because of the astonishing drama-laden rage/crying in chat from some players who demanded that their uber-elite armour be restored. I even made a special toon called “Sticky Stickman” and started accusing everyone of being stickist. Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.

Anyhow, my prediction:

For one day only replace all legendary skins with those from starter weapons and change all their sound effects to a sample of the devs laughing. Wossat? Too close to the bone?…

If forum rage induced by a one day bit of fun is your thing, keep your schedule clear on Friday. The plane prank of last year sent people frothing.

One way or the other, April 1st will be high entertainment.

Outfits Vs. Armour Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Players have stated a greater desire (judging by forum threads) almost weekly for 2 years or so as a pref for armour skins. Anet have said it was something like 10x the time or something (it’s in the Reddit thread for more detail) for armour skins. They recognise players would prefer more armour, but outfits are far, far quicker to make for them.

Doesn’t mean they don’t make the two in tandem, it is just that armour skins take a lot longer to appear, so it feels like they aren’t working on them. They also tend to release either as a batch or with content, which also counts for the delays. Outfits do not suffer from this, since they are gem store only. Armours are (now) in game reward only.

How do you name your characters?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I often use myths or characters from literature I like. Sometimes mixing it with historical refernces

Latronius Wolfe – named after Latro in the Mist (book) and Gene Wolfe (author)
Titus Augustine – a purple eyed noble (ala Titus Groan from Gormenghast)
Orpheus Argonaut – (should be self explanatory)
Viktor Belmont – inspired by Castlevania
Prothero Dragonhide – my Dragon Warrior. The first name came when googling suitable dragon names. I believe I based it off a myth, but I forget.

Sometimes the name just pops in my head. The below existed during GW1 and were imported across and existed in other MMO’s too.
Randulf Rawhide (a fusion of my enjoyment of both fantasy and westerns)
Goliath Bill (no my name is not Bill so I don’t know…)
Voice of Heston (OK I like his films…)

Dragons overused? *story spoilers

in Living World

Randulf.7614

Primordus was unknown during GW1. At no point was that statue thought to be anything other than a magical idol of some kind (obv we as the players got more info in the after game cutscene). The EOTN story (just one campaign amongst a few in the GW1 Universe) was about uniting people against the return of threat shrouded in Dwarven mythology. Beyond that, the Dragons had no known involvement in GW1 at the time of playing, regardless how history turned out.

GW2 is all about the Dragons. It was always advertised as such and even has a Dragon as the game’s symbol. Many people want more fleshed out side stories, or Palawa Joko or to face whatever dangers exist in Cantha and maybe one day they will come. I’d like to see those stories for sure.

But, the emphasis will remain on the Dragons and they have stated they have an arc pencilled out to the end.

As for the story criticisms, well I liked Trahearne (ish), but I can’t really argue with the rest. They should be perfectly capable of writing strong, huge sweeping epics campaigns against a Dragon, it’s just for some reason, they choose directions/scopes/ideas which aren’t fitting player expectations. HoT wasn’t a bad story in itself, it was just in some ways the wrong story. As the Commander, charging headlong through the jungle, risking countless lives over 3 people was just ridiculous storytelling. All it did was shorten the experience for us and miss important and interesting pieces.
- Caithe’s wyld Hunt (utterly glossed over)
- Mallyck (baffled how this was ever thought to be cut)
- Rata Novus. Sure we’ll get more, but it was way too brief
- The Exalted, for all their build up, required much greater involvement
- Not a thing on the Nightmare Court.

Maybe they will cover more, but this arc started 3 years ago, but more is missing and left open than is closed. I’m sure we will cover some of this in the LS, but we shouldn’t have to – it needed inclusion already so we can move right into a fresh new campaign against another Dragon, either directly or by a secondary threat. It will be 2 years since the egg appeared come LS3. Two years to start answering what that is all about, I don’t find that particularly satisfying.

So yes, I want more Dragons.Plus I want more substance to the story. The next expansion must have a sizeable campaign for me.

And thus ends todays rambling ramble

the centaur war

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I think Ulgoth was meant to be the culiminate that story. He could use a re-work though like other bosses. The problem is, to finish it truly in this “living, breathing world” would require removing centaur related events and quests and replacing them. That isn’t within scope of what is going to be achieved.

Despite any claim to the contrary, GW2 is a very linear story and the narrow thread we run along for the story will always conflict with wanting to flesh out some of the interesting world stories.
