So, I would like to add my personal experience to this topic. I’m fairly new to the game (about 200 hours into it) and neither played season1 nor 2 of ls. However, I don’t even see why I would want to.
Here’s why: I, personally, was absolutely bored by the main story. Like, seriously, after playing games like Witcher 3, Life is Strange and other story heavy titles, i found the story of GW2 to be…not very good.
The writing was terrible, the voice actors cringeworthy (Trahearne seems to be very bored in the story, i’ve never heard a more emotionless voice in another video game) and I generally don’t care at all about the characters because there is (at least for me)no connection to them.
While this might not have been a problem when the game came out, the recent amount of very well written and greatly acted games have set the bar a lot higher.
So I wonder how someone like me, a new player, who has been bored out by the main story, should be convinced to put another 20$ into another story, that may be as boring as the main story. Sadly, I don’t even think that the HoT Storyline, on its own, is convincing enough.
While certainly better than the main story, it’s still, at least for me, not enough to put 20 bucks into the LS2.
Maybe someone can convince me, but that person remains to be found. And for the GW2 Fanboys: Don’t think that I don’t like the game. I do. Just not for it’s story.
For pure storytelling, dialogue and character building you are right and it’s been that way since GW1, which was extremely poor until Nightfall when it started to improve. But, GW has never had the same level of storytelling a fully single player campaign and it probably never will imo (sorry, no offence Anet).
What LS does have though is interesting lore and some of the better gameplay – all vastly superior to the Personal Story. This was where they developed better gameplay mechanics to challenge solo players.
Season 1’s story was dire. Cliched with very little story progression and a villain that would make a comic book writer cringe. But, the a lot of the gameplay was by and large fondly remembered.
Season 2 improvd all areas and Taimi imo was an example of them finally getting an NPC right in dialogue and VA. It was let down by ridiculous cliffhangers, loose threads, unfinished plot points, but there were some terrific fights against the Shadow of the Dragon and the whole Glints Lair chapter was outstanding, including exploring the Priory vaults for lore.
It’s the gameplay and lore which is new players will miss. And whilst the story is sub par, it is better than the PS imo and it doesn’t mean the continuity aspect should be dismissed.
p.s I’ve been playing Witcher 3 and yes the story is great, but so far the gameplay has been largely a poor experience for me. I’m oping it improves, otherwise I’ll ditch it since there are vastly better open world games out there (Xenoblade)
No, because buying 250 memories is currently 6.25g. That is negligible for anyone making a legendary since there are far higher costs involved. That’s 3-4 dailies.

It’s one of the things I’ve sat on the fence on for a while since it doesn’t really affect me having been here through all seasons, but the issue is when others ask me about the game and the story. It’s very hard to put a positive gloss on the fact that one story is gone and another you have to pay for and that story is really only half a story you are paying for, since the lead in has gone. Then all that leads into HoT. It’s messy and needs a clearer presentation to new players.
Any story driven player will be put off.
This will be a fairly significant problem until they decide to re-do LS1. LS1 has to be re-done, there is no ifs and buts – it is a huge, glaring hole in the game and impacts on the rest of the game, since GW2 insists on trying to be like some TV show series, rather than traditional campaign.
I’m not against paying for the seasons per se, but when the situation is;
- Buy GW2 and get the PS
- Season 1 story not accessible for new players
- Season 2 free when you logged in at the time, but available for purchase only now, but it still wont make sense since the previous story is missing.
- Buy GW2/HoT and get story free
- LS3 – free with HoT??
It’s not a good business model for an rpg imo.
Question is, what should the price be for such an item?
Bugs forum suggests using a HoM portal stone as well
Well, maybe it can fix stuff for some people, but it didn’t do any good for me. I would still suggest logging back on gw1 and going to HoM for those with the same issue.
It’s just an extra option for people to try if needed

Right next to your thread on this
I see a pretty high number of Mallyx and Ventari users..
I find it a pretty clunky class to start with, but I’m learning it slowly. I’m using SHiro atm, but I can’t say I’m bowled over by his utilities and the less said about hammer speed the better…
I suspect most of my grievances will iron out..if not, well 8 other classes I enjoy exist.
I enjoy most aspects of UW and it’s a shame so little skins and explorable content has been left out. I was delighted to find the UW passage in Tangled Depths only to find such a large pointless area.
It’s clearly not been well balanced though. Ele and warrior work really well UW as you say. Now try something like thief – it has so little of which makes the class what it is. Plus a severe lack of usable utilities doesn’t help. Even Rev I think is still waiting for the UW to be finished off from what I read from a dev post last week.
Personally I want more UW content and more skins, not them cutting it out
It is my purpose in life to find purpose. Can you say the same about yours?
The length of time is just because there are so few of you.
You will need:
Arena Proprietor
Guild Hall at level 10
Arena upgarde 1
Arena Upgrade 2
You can ignore most upgrades, but you will likely need a guild mission one and a mining one to help build up currencies. Plus you will need 150 potions of pvp from doing pvp dailies – only so many can be obtained a day. And ofc celestial insignias which involve time gated mats.
So, yeah weeks I think is fair if you plan ahead.
You can’t use it until it’s upgraded to level 2
Is it expensive and time consuming ?
It’s certainly time consuming. You will need a lot of mats including the pvp potions from dailies (final upgrade to make it into an arena needs 100). Plus you need to level the Guild Hall up first.
A few weeks if dedicated. Months if not.
You cannot remove it from your shared slot until you fully consume it, but you can trial it on any toon w/o committing to it. Even if you use it on an 80 toon, you will still get all the associated items – dyes, gear, teleports etc etc. But, no you cannot move the boost to the bank.
One of the only tricky bits is the full set of pvt gear you get is soulbound and cannot be forged or salvaged. Otherwise there are plenty of pop ups to explain it – if people click through them without reading, well that’s another issue.

I’ve done 2 runs with a TT guild this week. I wasn’t on ts so I forget who they were, but it wasn’t after reset so I am guessing it was the EU TTS equivalent

And another mystery solved!
Time for a scooby snack!
They don’t for me
If this is an older toon, I’d check the starter zones again. When they revamped the NPE, they added some waypoints/hearts.
I assume you are hovering your mouse of the name of each map to check 100% from the map overview?
This may be the start of cycling diff sets through the bl chests. Which is a good thing if they decide to. Bl tickets for weapons were a fairly poor rng system, so improving the system for everyone is better for the game.
It would be strange to do this for a few skins and not cycle in the others at some point.
Kilroy Stonekin fits all weapon types. He would happily charge in with a focus to bash heads in if he had to…
Well in their defence, not closing it down and not protecting their copyright, would probably have caused much greater problems with setting a precedent for allowing infringement. Hence why so many lawsuits that seem so silly and petty get filed. It is the unfortunate nature of the copyright law in certain countries.
On topic for GW2 however, it is more interesting to see such a (seemingly) high % of accounts who wanted to play the original format. Expansions can have the effect of changing the game beyond recognition and it isn’t the first MMO to derail due to excessive exapcs (LOTRO..). GW2 isn’t suffering quite in that regard, although it veered a little off course with HoT in some places, but it goes to show what a fine balance between progressing an MMO and keeping the vision which attracted so many in the first place.
We know very little about humans, who have thousands of years of history. The Sylvari came into being yesterday on a historical scale. There is little history to delve.
Yeah, but just to play devil’s advocate for one moment: humans are boring.
So, let’s compromise and forget Sylvari and Humans, and turn to the true heroic race worthy of all our focus: Charr.

Pah! This is Charr history!
Zerina stepped through the doorway to her secret lab, location unknown, where she found Test Subject 1138, barely conscious and still held secure by restraints. A lab assistant hand her the readouts of the last test session, and she nodded with approval after reading the results.
“Just a few more tests to verify the results. Reset the magineuroamplifiers to maximum setting eleven. Make sure the test subject stays awake” Zerina said.
Her krewe readied the instruments and lowered the focal points to various locations on the test subject’s skin. Scorch marks were very visible where previous test points were located. The test subject’s eyes opened more, responding to the activity, and widened with a twinge of fear as he knew what was coming. Another assistant injected the test subject with a wake-promoting drug.
“Well Malyck, shall we continue our work? It’s very important you know. I’m sure you understand.” Zerina said as krewe members adjusted dials and started the test.
Screams of pain echoed through the hidden lab complex.
+1
Flax now drops from mobs quite a bit so they did make changes. Plus when you consider there are specific patches with lots of flax in one place you can farm nearly 1 oils worth at a time, then they probably thought it was in an OK place.
Also, clear out anything not required from your bank/material storage. You’d be surprised what accumulates in there and what value can exist.
Shiverstone
Super Mace (unique flail skin)
Zodiac Mace

I use this on my Revenant – it’s a beautiful sword
Depends on your perspective. I say its vastly cheaper since you aren’t forced into buying anything.
Others say the mats you farm still have value and after all the mats you use, it works out roughly the same as buying it if you had just sold everything you used.
For a year I forged every rare weapon I got from metas and silverwastes. In that time I got 2 precursors. Bear in mind I play a reasonably large amount of hours though to have obtained so many, but it is an option. The armours I salvaged for ectos.
Get the precursor and clovers out of the way early. They will give you a psychological advantage in feeling like you are making progress. Making the clovers will also generate a large amount of t6 mats for you as well.
In between going for the above, you can break it up with map completion and farming and making sure you have the required crafting level for the Gift
I also advise finding out which map each week generates charged cores/lodestones. They aren’t cheap and you will need 100 lodestones. Currently Fireheat I think gives them which is pretty decent for events.
May I advise doing the shortbow quest too. Or at least collection 1. Most of Nevermore t1 I did accidentally whilst doing other things, so didn’t get much journey from it like you did. The shortbow has a subcollection which exemplifies the sort of great content Anet are capable of.
That said, I will probably continue Nevermore to the end eventually, since people say so many great things about the collection as a whole.
The search tool is broken btw.
Thanks Flesh, I will point out though the above quote is already used aplenty in this thread
They are not retroactive. They were new achievements added with HoT when it launched for players to work towards in order to gain additional mastery points
Pretty certain we wont ever get a new race in the lifespan of GW2. They seemed pretty unkeen on the idea last time it was raised. Since Dwarves seem to be confined to the depths, having PC dwarves running around maguuma and boss events across Tyria all of a sudden would be quite immersion breaking for lore enthusiasts.
Also do you not agree that him returning would be of no consequence to a none Sylvari player as they would have never meat him before. Kind of hard to add someone back in in a meaning full way when any character that’s not a tree has no reference fir him.
It isn’t so much meeting Malyck again that’s important. Even as a sylvari player I don’t really care that much about meeting him specifically.
However the storyline he’s connected to and what he represents in the narrative IS a big deal. He’s from another Pale Tree. One without the Dream. This is a pretty big event in the lore because it means there could be dozens of over Sylvari “nations” with their own trees and their own cultures that have never even heard of Ventari or his tablet
Spot on. Malyck isn’t particularly interesting as a personality or a character. It’s what he implies and symbolises which is key and crucial to the lore. Obviously Anet are privvy to info that we don’t that caused him to be cut, but should we ever hear the full story, I very much expect he could have been worked in whatever the obstacles. This was the time to delve into the lore of sylvari, their role in the wider World, the other Trees, other Sylvari, the nature of Mordrem and Nightmare.
Expacs are campaigns, not TV serials with cliffhangers and “to be continues”. LS seasons barely get away with it, but expacs need to be substantial and with meat, with a conclusion. Malyck is a small part in a wider story that needed to be a part of that.
I dont suppose you have those original design pics to show?
This should answer your question

Some things work well as an open question. The flying castle is one. No matter what they do with it, it can’t top years of hype and mystery. It’s far better left as an enigma to look up in wonder at. Sometimes the best stories are those you can imagine.
Malyck I don’t think qualifies in the same way, although I wonder if the moment has passed. He absolutely should have been a part of HoT, or at least his tree and people formed part of an Act. LS3 will be the fallout, the progression and as a toon only important to the sylvari players, I wonder if he can be kept in without feeling forced at this juncture.
We shall see, heavy hints suggested he would appear again at some point. Personally I would like this loose end tied up, late or otherwise.
Sorry!
Glad to hear that!
It’s not a drama
It’s showing care about my race lore and fight with haters who – I bet – killed Trehearne – more or lesshahaha
Liking Trahearne because he is Sylvari is like loving Jar-Jar because he is from Star Wars.
Me say you no wanna Trearnery to die?
I think we need elaboration on why it needs to be consistent. The “because it is supportive” doesn’t make any sense to me without further explanation.
We have a slider, it is our choice whether we want to see them or not. The auras are a big reason why a slider was implemented so quickly and when it was stated we could have our effects back, there was no insinuation this would be at the exclusion of one of the main effects that was nerfed.
Can we get further detail on why the need for consistency? Right now, it doesn’t make any sense.
Yeah. I’ve been learning what my class’s "CC"s are, but It’s really kitten hard to figure out what counts for breaking the Breakbars or not.So far, all I’ve confirmed are Stun and Daze are “CC” skills, but Immobilize and Cripple (The ones I have more access to most of the time) apparently aren’t.
Stun and daze are hard cc ie do instant damage to the breakbar
Immobilize and cripple are sofy cc which means they do damage over time to the breakbar
It isnt clear in game because prior to HoT this was not explained or taught when tney changed the defiance mechanic and the previous defiance mechanic was woefully inadequate to bother breaking.
Where’s that -1 button when ya need it??
No down vote button.
You could even say it was c-Eir-less of them not to put one in.
Maybe its time to mull(et) over one?
It’s been discussed weekly for maybe two years now. The only known response is that it is something they feel would be useful to the game, but (at the time) was not in development.
It is a highly requested feature, but I imagine the complex logistics of coding in such a system is probably quite intricate to mesh with the current systems. You have to remember, it would need to take into account armours, sigils, weapons, traits, skills, the wardrobe, inventories and work in all 3 game modes. I can’t imagine the complications involved adding that in at this stage of the game’s life.
Hopefully one day…

The changes were small if any to most of them. If you didn’t like them before, you still wont like them now.
It’ll be interesting to see if they survive as a concept beyond HoT. They were apparently very well received at launch, but anecdotally speaking, they seem wildly unpopular and out of place.
After what happened, I wouldn’t be surprised if Braham totally wigged out.
toupée…
Sounds reasonable. He was Eir’s heir and when he lost his Eir he lost his hair. He is now Eir’s hairless heir. The next story line will have Eir’s hairless heir looking for a hare so the hare can be Eir’s hairless heir’s hare.
What a Eir raising tale!
If Zhaitan were still around, things could get really Eir-raising!
Dead Eir is the terror to all air attuned eles as she causes a condition known as Dead Air. Many rants will be ranted in the Ele forum if Dead Eir is a final boss.
Eles dont rant. That’s just a ‘bare-faced’ lie…
