Does anyone use sword/dagger in PvE?

S/D is the best melee set in PvE imo.

Cleave autoattack, infiltrator’s strike is so good it’d take pages to explain, and flanking strike’s boon removal can be useful against enemies that don’t perpetually refresh their boons.

Just excellent.

I’m not sure how do people enjoy sword main hand.

Auto is ok. I get it, high damage, useful debuffs.
Infiltrator strike is a castrated shadowstep, what the hell is that? It’s heartseeker with castrated damage.
Flanking strike is decent but against anything removely moving it fails, and I hate when the game fails me.

We need an on/off toggle for everything.
Chat, quests logs, minimap, and especially the exp bar.
Why do I have to waste those pixels for a yellow bar when I’m lvl 80?
I never looked it while leveling either, now it’s even more pointless.

I agree that those childish things detract a lot from GW2.
It makes me feel like the game is for childs and I’m a bit on the old side so it sort of makes me wonder if I’m playing the right game for me.

Not that I’d rather have yet another “dark” MMO mind you, but I think we can find a grey area between little mice singing kumbaya in circle while puking rainbows and mega dark warriors with red eyes throwing lazorz from their mouths.

Like, a somewhat realistic fantasy setting.

Heya.

I’m wondering now with this “limited” guesting… Are we forced to pay to play with friends in the NA Servers?

This is not what DEVs Promissed, it just isn’t. Now I’m in EU servers and must say goodbye to play with my friends in the American Servers. =/
If I was in the NA servers, It would be same problem to EU.

When the transfer was free… Ok… Now, it’s the end, i’m limited to play in EU.

Max

They never promised free transfer, they actually always said transfers were going to be a paid features and free transfers were temporary.

PvE:
1) Make a giant, open world area as hard as GW1 DoA and introduce DoA armor.
2) Reitroduce FoW/UW with their armor.
3) Remake Tomb of Primeval Kings and Urgoz.
4) Reintroduce hard mode.
5) Introduce crafting quests to get mats.
6) Have at least 3 GMs on each server (8 hour shifts) to costantly wander the game invisible to catch bots.
7) Remove stats difference from Exotics and beyond, replace with agony resist, then spread agony to all difficult content so that +tiers only benefit PvE.
8) Give difficulty levels to all dungeons; people with different levels can play and still get some progress toward next level (introduce difficulty progress UI bar).
9) LFG tool.
10) Allow texture mods and ENBs.

WvW:
1) Replace “supply” with wood, stone and gold. Wood is needed to build siege, stone for fort upgrades/repairs, gold to hire/improve NPCs.
2) Make siege movable, dismantable or carriable by dolyaks; also, any siege placed will last 24 hours.
3) Introduce siege towers that work like golems but hold at least 5 players who can shoot from the top while taking little damage.
4) Replace obsolete server-based system with district system like GW1. To WvW people simply pledge to an House and battle with other Houses.
5) Make stealth visible (i.e. transparent, like allies see you) but not targetable; so noobs stop crying about us Thieves.

New:
1) Create for each server a huge, new zone divided in 50 or so provinces each as big as Queensdale where everyone is FFA PvP except guild members; guilds can build towers/keeps and other buildings, conquer lumbers/mines, hire NPCs etc and that’s how GvG will be done.
2) Create at least 1 new skill for each skill in the game.
3) Make a “complaints” section on this forum and move all the complains there.
4) Give all classes some skills to block zergs (similar to Guardian’s wards) and reduce pvp-only damage of AoEs; this to prevent zergs exploit AoEing their feet to make anyone meleeing them insta-death.

And there it comes. The greatest game of our century. dreams

GUILD wars, try out the GUILD part. It’s kinda fun.

I don’t get these posts.
I have a guild with 400 people, how has that anything to do with this?
Guilds aren’t playing fractals 24/7, this game is not guild only it’s a MMO.

This is griefing you can’t blame it on me. I played perfectly with no death.
When I joined they were in the middle of the first fractal, crying because they couldn’t beat the Elemental after 2 tries.
I said “the Elemental is very easy come see”. We beat it in 5 mins with me in the team.
Colossus? They couldn’t use the kitten hammer, had to do it for them. Never said a word, I just played.
Asura fract, they couldn’t beat the harpies, had to stealth and get them myself.
I could say I carried them over, GW1 Alesia would have been a better teammate.
And then I get kicked at last moment so they can get other guild noobs to rob my reward?
Sorry but this is abuse, exploiting and griefing, and it must be prevented.

Report the people who do this. Hopefully anet will take action on those who display a pattern of such behavior. Other than that though there isn’t a whole lot they can do besides requiring a three person vote to kick (which they absolutely should do). You can’t just not allow the group to kick someone while inside the maw level or whatever.

I just filed a ticket, justice is nice but will not give me those hours back.
I do little PvE mostly a WvW type, if PvE has these risks I’d rather keep doing WvW.
Something permanent needs to be done to prevent this.

I’m a pretty patient person but I can see people ragequitting over something like this.

Yes. it has become the norm now apparently.
People will always kick you at the last level to let their friends join and get the reward.
It just happened twice in a row to me (note that I never died nor say anything during both runs) and several times to my guildies as well.
I assume the leader simply kicks non-guildies and has the guildies join him to grab the chest.
I don’t like to make drama, but I have to state that this is by far the worst form of griefing I ever suffered in 20 years of online gaming.

I trust ANet is going to take this seriously and implement a solid solution, would be nice to hear from them.

In GW2 you can use 16 to 20 skills during combat, and still swap them when not in combat.

Yeah in GW1 we had 200 skills… Except:
1) At least 50 were exact clones of other skills, i.e. Penetrating Blow and Penetrating Chop.
2) Another 50 were useless.
3) Another 50 were bound to primary attribute which means using them as secondary class was useless.

So you were left with 50 useful skills to pick from.
GW2 Warrior has a total of 65 skills none of which is useless.

But I guess for some people it’s enough to see “new iconz!!111” rather than have a properly done skill pool.

Also, I assume you’re talking of GW1 with 3 expansions?
GW2 is vanilla, if you haven’t noticed.

Ascended stuff isn’t really needed for anything it’s flavor stuff they put in to give carebears something to do to get some PvE progression.
That’s why they made it so you need time to get it and can’t just farm it like a robot, that way you play some GW2 every day instead of doing your unhealthy 20 hours run for a week and then sit here all day complaining there is no pve endgame.
If they were farmable in a month, carebears would be here in a month plaguing the forums with complaints because they have nothing to do yadda yadda.
Sadly some people cannot PvP as endgame so Anet needs to put these gimmicks to shut them up, there is no other way as infinite PvE content does not exist.

Why does WvWvW not use PvP gear like sPvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d take WvW gear system over sPvP’s any day.
Your normal gear has a lot more customization as you can mix-match items to achieve different stats and use orbs for even further stats customization.
In sPvP you get a narrow variety of all-in-one amulets with pre-determined stats and there goes your customization.

Shadow Refuge sucks, it gets interrupted all the time. Use withdraw instead. You’re not going to cloak and dagger anyone to death unless they’re a beginner who doesn’t know how to play. 100% crit out of stealth trait is a bad choice as well because you should have at least 67% crit rate anyways without fury buff, that comes up to a walloping 87% minimal crit rate when playing with support toons. and easily pushed even higher with a sigil of perception. Don’t build for condition damage either, that’s the slowest and requires the most effort (read: button pushing) to do anything. Shortbow not good at long range, you want to use it up close and personal where you can spam off 3-7 cluster bombs as fast as you can. Important to get the condition removal trait in the shadow tree. learn to cook, and make omnomberry pies or ghosts. never enter a big fight without them.

This is the worst advice I’ve ever read from a Thief.

in Thief

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

VERY different classes.

Necro is an attrition class with tons of defense and area denial, but almost zero mobility.
Thief is an evasive class with high burst potential and mobility, but almost zero inner survivability.

They play very differently, I’ll go as far as saying that Necro is the opposite of Thief.
If you are a player who has extremely good reflexes and quick thinking you should go Thief, if you have more of denialist/attrition/stalling mindset you should go Necro.

D/D in WvW .. how do you put up with it? >_>

in Thief

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

Yes, it seems like people is finally L2Ping then, good thing.

As a dagger lover here is my view.
It’s much harder to get a kill with a frontal approach but that’s why we’re Thieves.
A spike from behind is still an almost guaranteed kill, and a flanking spike is also quite likely to be successful.
Thieves need to learn to not rely on Stealth as a combat tool but as a way to setup a kill and to escape death; in-combat, evasiveness is the key.

You need to play the Thief like you’re not part of the battle.
You must pop when they least expect it, cause mayhem and disappear after your job is done.
Shadowstep is our greatest asset, not refuge; I see too many Thieves relying on town, rely on mobility guys.
Flank them, burst, step at their back, burst again, shadow return on flank, burst, dodge, evade.
You must be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They’ll be completely lost in the dark.

Plus the noobs still fall for anything we do.
Have no mercy for noobs, spike them and jump on their body, laugh at them.
That’s the only way to get them to L2P seriously. Especially those bad rangers.
I’ve met very good rangers who lasted a full minute or even force me to retreat so it’s not the class, it’s the noobs. We must blast them to waypoint full of rage and grudge until they become worthy opponents.

Just be the backstabbing dirty player we’re born to be.

PS: It’s also useful to swap your secondary weps a lot.
P/P for single target spike (6-7k dmg unload is good), switch to SB when you need mass weakness and area denial.
Don’t limit yourself to a static setup, try to evolve your style on the spot.
Every moment out of combat is a chance to change playstyle.

They also used to remove if they were on a projectile that lasted too long, or on non-attack skills such as Caltrops or Smoke Bomb. When you exit Shadow Refuge’s circle you are immediately given revealed debuff, regardless.
You could have 10s stealth left from other skills that exiting any Shadow Refuge circle will remove any stealth and give revealed, which proves this.

This is quite a problem because other Thieves can drop your stealth if you happen to pass by when they cast it.

I believe Thief doesn’t work well with mixed stuff like that.
If you grab ConDmg over CritDmg you’re losing a ton of raw DPS and still not hitting hard enough with DoTs.

Also, having no power is really bad, I’d rather sacrifice crit (hidden killer will still make BS crit anyways).

Depends on your build entirely.
On a BS build you’ll be getting a lot more benefits from Hidden Killer, but the opposite is true on a more DPS-ish less bursy build like P/P or S/D.

That’s PvP-wise btw, I assume for PvE Execut is better due to big health pools of bosses.

Currently the D/D build has the same burst power of a Thief, same mobility as Thief, same survival as Thief (through damage reduction rather than stealth tho, i.e. backstab hits them for 4-5k).
Considering it’s a melee spike build it’s fine tho, the real problem to me seems to be overpowered healing that comes with it.
Getting from almost dead to full in seconds is the sort of thing tends to get a lot of hate like WoW Paladins.

Anet wants to nerf AoE dmg but honestly it seems wrong to me. AoE is ok.
Healing on the other hand should be like it was planned to be, i.e. your heal skill is your only reliable heal everything else is flavor minor healing – if your health gets low and your 6 is used, you either escape or die, you don’t reset a fight.

Also, if a nerf is to be handed to Eles next patch I hope they will get staff buffs in return.
It’s a joke that against a melee Ele it’s a tough fight and a staff Ele is a free kill, find some balance Anet…

Come February GW2 will have been out for 6 months. There have been good times and bad, but I think most can agree we have all been waiting patiently for this game to turn the corner and become what we were told it would be. Tomorrow is the beginning of the trifecta of patches touted as an “expansions worth of content” and with it lies what could be a turning point for better or worse. Will real class balance be addressed in the coming months? It needs to be because right now only half of the classes in the game are on par. Will people have a reason to play TPvP or SPvP? Currently these areas of the game are dying fast. What about wvw and the zerg? How will they break the mass armies up and breath new life into the Altaric Valley of GW2? I know personally I am excited and a nit nervous to see what lies in store for us. I really like this game but am realistic in seeing that there are massive flaws. A weak spot in the armor that could bring it all down if not repaired. With TESO on the horizon things need to change and change fast. The community has listened to a half a year of vague plans and sat by patch after patch waiting for the method of minor tweaks to make things right. And well…in all honestly its been mostly disappointing. Lately in my guild I have heard a lot of players whos decision to stay here or move to other games really depend of what is coming in the next 3 months. Will anet deliver? I am cautiously hopeful but I gotta say I don’t have the confidence that I did on the evening of August 28th. What about you?

Actually none of what you listed here was ever promised nor is what needs to happen.
WvW should not being about mass pvp? Half classes being UP? You’re playing another game I guess.
And seriously, TESO? If you quit GW2 for a MMO whose combat is the clunkiest thing since ‘90s games, almost as turn-based-ish as FF11, then you’re very far from GW2’s audience.
It will last two months before it’s empty just like any other cash-grab MMO who use famous titles on terrible MMOs to leech off their fans.
I’m a #1 TES fan but that doesn’t mean I can’t recognize a terrible MMO.
