Nope, it’s your opinion millions of players don’t share.
Facts and opinions are very different things, and sure as hell dumbing down this game with autopilot easymode trinity gimmick wouldn’t do any good.

Been playing MMOs for 15 years and no trinity game requires a quarter of skill that GW2 does – especially those where tank and healer gimmick the whole fight.

This is the major issue of this community.
You admit to know nothing of the Thief and yet say it’s overpowered.

I don’t want to be rude and tell you to L2P so I’ll just say, look around the forums, people posted the obvious weaknesses of this class and how to counter its strengths.
Thief is far from OP once you know what you’re doing.

Stealth needs to drop on damage

in Thief

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

They will never make stealth drop on damage due to channeled skills and things that still “home” to you while stealthed, so if implemented stealth wouldn’t work anymore.

All you have to do is the usual guys, learn to use the one, single, little button that every class has and prevents a spike.
Endure pain, decoy, arcane shield, etc.

Yes, classes like Thief and Mesmer require an active brain to be beated and can hardly be beaten by just mashing buttons randomly like you do with other classes.
Thf and Mes are master of mind tricks and decoys – very easy to beat if you use your brain, very hard if you don’t.

What GW2 lacks in: Endgame

You’re right on the PvE areas being too rushy and easy, but completely wrong on dungeons; it’s just you who didn’t understand how roles work in GW2 yet, let me give you some example.

For instance, these days I’m a support/DPS Thief: I protect my team from ranged fire with Smoke Screen, stealth/heal them in a pinch with Shadow Refuge, cleanse their conditions with Signet of Agility – while also dealing DPS to the enemies.
I also have a set for Tank/Condition; I stay in the front line using DB to stack bleeds and evade/dodge constantly to waste all of enemies’ DPS, while also using all my blinding tools to keep them unable to hit me or my team.
I can also go Area Denial with shortbow and mass weakness, with traited for applying further weakness.
I can also go Trapper/Poison sharer for massive control to me and my team.

Ascended gear: Thinking ahead...(1-2 yrs)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

Very far-far-far-fetched assumptions here.

Anet never said they will increase the level cap, and judging by how the game is structured it wouldn’t make sense to raise the cap.
Anet also said the Ascended tier is bridge from exotic to legendaries which means no other tiers.

And even if they do raise the cap and add new exotics while rolling out ascended piece by piece, then what?
It’s the current direction, accept it or you can play all the other myriads of MMOs around with great graphics, action combat, no trinity… yes, all those.

Thieves are easy. Mesmers however...

Red Falcon.8257

Mesmers and Thieves are the easiest class to beat for me on my Warrior.
I use Axe/Shield, Bolas/Bull/EP – leg specialist, shield reflect.
Secondary is rifle for finishing runners.

vs D/D Thief.
Sblock/EP the combo of death, rest of fight is about landing Evis and keeping him rooted, if he shadowsteps away pop Rifle and Volley. Easiest fight of my life.

vs P/D Thief.
Reflect sneak attack, laugh.
When he’s under revealed, throw axe or bull + Evis + 1 till death.
Heal if the fight gets longer.

vs P/P Thief.
Reflect Unloads, boom10kevisyouredeadthinghy, yawn.

vs S/D Thief.
Break daze with EP and throwaxe10kevisgotowaypointbro.
If it fails swap to Rifle and use channeled skills as they will kill him during stealth.

vs Mesmer.
AoE or Sblock clones, bait decoy, throw axe → BOOM 10K EVIS, bolas, 2, 11111, bull when needed.
EP if he spawns more clones to prevent a second shatter.

As long as you’re swapping to DPS gear during the boss fight (where having MF would give no bonuses to your loots anyways, so there is no point in wearing MF at all), I don’t see a problem.
The non-boss parts of the dungeons are a joke so feel free to wear MF or even run naked.

I once ran two consecutive fractals wearing loots I dropped in the dungeon aka white trash because my armor was broken as I forgot to repair before starting and we had bad luck.
Others were throwing trash loots at me to wear, that was the funniest run ever – I even dyed the trash to make me look like a hobo and we all laffed.

It’s a game guys, and a a game that’s little reliant on gear and a lot more on skill and reflexes.

Question to Guild Wars 1 players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

GW1 player for 8 years here, I’m quite happy with GW2.

Things I would like to see:

1) Increased skill pool (including elites), weapon variety for all classes, a lot more traits.
This would give the game some solid build depth and variety, which GW2 lacks a lot compared to GW1.

2) More rare skin that need to be obtained by killing specific bosses a la GW1.
Honestly most skins are easy to obtain, the hard ones are legendaries which need gold farming to be obtained.
I hope Ascended weapons will be introduced in loot tables of bosses from dungeons, and their skins be actually good looking.

Wait what? No ranged and no way to stay in range for guardian? Are we even playing the same profession/game.

1h sword (gap closer), meditations (healing/burning gap closer, healing/damaging condition removal, scepter+torch (immobilize, high sustained damage, burst, burning). Along with that they still keep high staying power compared to any other damage oriented spec.

I doubt we’re playing against remotely similarly skilled people.

Gap closers won’t keep the gap closed, any person with a brain will just open the gaps immediately.
Immob from scepter is something that again anyone with a couple brain cells will remove immediately.
Sure, Guardian has a lot of staying power but anyone with a brain will just stay away from you successfully and kite you to death.

WoW started doing it with the new expansion

Most games use this technology nowadays, that’s because finding all PvE maps empty is a great downside for a MMO game.

The fact this technology is there already and not used makes me think Anet has its eyes focused on endgame only and doesn’t care to resolve the most fundamental issue of the pre-endgame game.

No.

The exploits that this would lead to…the builds that people would REQUIRE that you bring…the bugs…the new enemy mechanics that would be implemented so that you could not trivialize certain fights…you’d be creating a lot more problems than you’d be solving

This.

Sorry but the average PvEer will bug the hell out of the game if this was implemented, let’s just leave it as it is.

Red Falcon.8257

<Talking from a WvW perspective>

Sword simply won’t work.
It can’t spike targets fast so you’re getting a lot of deaths due to inability to kill.
Plus any decent player will just remove your bleeds or outheal them.

Axe is great tho.
10k evis crits for spike, the rest comes from the fast auto attack and immobicripple from throw axe with leg specialist.
I also grab bolas and bull for more CC in order to maximize the ability to land all this, rarely anyone is able to survive it.
Shield offhand of course, axe offhand is a complete joke.

As for second set I either use LB for walls or sword/board for running away after the kill(s).

I wonder why people are using GS still, as buggy, clunky and easy to avoid as it is.

Red Falcon.8257

Congratulations.

I hit the wall at 800 hours, my girlfriend is at 350 (a bit casual) but still playing.
My main issue is that I have nothing interesting to do left :/ but I believe this is mostly due to the fact most classes are still beta-ish so I can’t get myself to play them.
Got a Guardian to 80 then realized the major flaws of the class (no cripple/way to stay in range, no ranged), got Warrior to 80 then realized a ton of core skills are buggy and clunky, got a Thief to 80 and loved every second of it (most finalized class I played so far, only a couple bugs and the rest is very smooth).
Other classes don’t inspire me remotely, played my gf’s Ele a bit (too simple for my tastes, where’s this “high skill ceiling”?) and I’m tempted to make a power Necro but cannot find the willpower to level to 80 for the fourth time.

Not bad tho, the only game that got me into it for longer is Guild Wars 1 (but taking into account all expansions and farming for rare skin drops which is not implemented in GW2).

The thing about Tarnished Coast is that it’s an unofficial RP server. It was designated as such by the community and not by ArenaNet. If this concept of a megashard would happen, then all servers would have to be considered in some way or another. If the RP community really wants to keep the harassment away from anti-RP players, then they would have to engage on some hardcore lobbying to convert and create RP servers.

In that case, I would say make four RP servers, Tarnished Coast being a converted one and three brand new ones (for the sake of WvW balancing). All the RP worlds would share the same “underflow” and “overflow” servers so that regardless if you end up in an overflow or not, you’re more likely going to end up with players who also RP. Optionally, you could also join a non-RP overflow by right-clicking a party member’s portrait and choose “Join In Lion’s Arch” or whatever zone.

No need for all this madness, just make a “common server” for each map so that players from all server can join it if they so want – else they stay in their server.
Pretty much like GW1 worked, you could stay in your district or visit others.

The thing is, this system is already in place except it’s used for the opposite issue, aka overpopulation of a zone.
Underpopulation is a major issue and should be fixed too.

Anet hate healing...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

No to healers.

GW2 doesn’t have to be yet another game of healers.
If it was, the game would need to be balanced around teams with healers and therefore would be too hard for teams without – that would bring back the old “LF Healer and go!”.

NO.
This game has a much deeper system for defense, it does not need to do 100 steps backwards and allow people to toss green numbers alone.

You either play the game as it’s meant to or go away, I’m tired of compromises with “obsolete MMO lovers” that ruin the game.

If you cannot evolve yourself from tossing da healz and keeping aggru on ya easymode gimmicks then sorry but it doesn’t mean GW2 should unevolve.

The issue with allowing people to read dictionaries without giving them the reading comprehension to actually understand what they are reading is a great metaphor of many of the issues of the current information age.

Still better than people who want to give their own meanings to words and demand everyone accept their point of view because that “how they got it” and “how they think it should be”.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

It’s true.
I’m a melee-only player and even after mastering my classes some PvE fights are impossible to be melee’d all the time – or at least it’ll be more inefficient to do so than switch to ranged.

This is a major design flaw as people are just ranging all the enounters very easily as a workaround, therefore thinking the game is easy.
They really need to adjust this, a mob shouldn’t be a threat only if it’s in melee range and a joke from afar.

Ele is one of the easiest classes to play.
Skill ceiling is high for classes that need to rely reflexes, positioning and timing or particular setup mechanics; Ele has almost nothing of this.
Regardless if the average MMO baddie believes # of button equals skill ceiling, Ele is probably the second easiest class (Ranger takes first by far).
My little nephew plays an Ele very good, and fails to understand other classes because they are not as straight-forward and simple.
Worry not about Ele difficulty OP, class is pretty easy to play so far.

I am thinking about exactly the same thing. The issues is incentive, not population. Merging people in one server is like a brute force solution. Putting dungeon tokens in the end of events seems easier and addresses the issue more directly.

The problem is that it’s impossible to make players want to go through all zones every day, no game is capable of doing that.
Even if it was worth it I doubt people would actually refill all the maps of the game.

It’s much easier to make common servers just like other games.

ah, that is cool.

I’m surprised people haven’t come in here stating “No, it ruins community” -.- Cause that seems to be the defacto answer to anything the helps people actually be able to play with other people.

I doubt anyone would say no to the ability to choose a common server with all players when they are in PvE zones.

As for Anet, obviously a single server is never going to fill the massive world we have so it’s kind of a mandatory step to switch to such a system.
Hopefully some devs will let us know their plans on this.

end game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

There are large amounts of endgame in GW2.
If you are a PvE player you can play any of the (at this point 40+?) dungeons or dynamic events around the world, along with completing the story, exploring all the world (map completion) or digging the rare skins.
As a PvP player you can do World vs World if you are more of a RvR type or sPvP if you are an arena type.

TES Online is going to sport a system similar to our overflow/district one at launch.

Especially since the system is already there it’s a minor work for them and major change for all people who play the game.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

Anet you already have a queue server technology in place (overflow) so why not use that to fix the “dead zones” issue.
Basically, for all zones that are usually dead, you prioritize overflows over the main server so all people are going to fill the overflow(s), and will still be able to /join with friends in their own server just like we do now in LA when we group for FoTM.

An upcoming major title is using megashard feature and will have full maps always, and the fact GW2 zones are dead might be a big downside for us when the two are compared, so you might want to look into this soon.

Plus it’s not something that can be left undone forever so at some point it will need to be done.

Did you just come to say this?

Become yes, it’s probably growing too grindy and P2W and this is what we are trying to determine here. Of course the 1-79 levels of the game are awesome and wonderful, otherwise we wouldn’t be so sticky to this game, but it seems badly handled in the end, and again, we are trying to discuss a flaw in the economic model.

There is no grind nor P2W in GW2.
Again I have 800 hours in, never grinded and never needed to: if you force yourself to grind is your problem, but the game itself never forced me to “repat this or be locked out”.
And buying any amount of gems won’t make you any stronger than anyone else, so you’re not winning anything; you just get a full character faster than newcomers, if that’s winning anything for you then I’m pretty sorry for ya.

But hey whiners gonna whine and no amount of facts and logic can get their heads outta their wintersday gift box.

Yes, exactly.

Honestly having the game take control of your character during Rush – and perform very badly at it – is a big turnoff.
It will always miss anything moving in the slightest, and therefore it’s useless in PvP.
Bull’s charge also misses in the same way – a bit less, but still prone to failure because the game fails to stick to a moving target.

Rush is like a sketch where Beep Beep stops from running and Will Coyote fails to brake and runs into a rock… but it’s not as funny as the joke is on you.
