GW2 is not a grind game, it will never be, and it does not need to be.

The whole success of the game is based on the fact we finally got a MMO where you don’t have to grind – should they put any treadmill in the game would die in a minute.
It will never happen.

PVE/PVP Splits

If you read around, all other MMO forums have people praising the way Anet splits PVE/PVP skills.
Because those games are stuck with PvP nerfs that ruin PvE and PvE buffs that ruin PvP.
Pretty sure I don’t need to name you what’s the game that had this gigantic issue to the most ridiculous level for almost a decade now.

How long is a reasonable time to evaluate game developement?

Anet is being surprisingly fast at their job.
Other MMOs had many classes still pidgeon-holed into the only viable build due to bugs etc until 6 months at least, we’re nearing a good place in GW2 after 2 months (if you read dev posts, Ranger/Necro are being fixed soon, Ranger fix alone is expected next patch).

They had a more buggy product than most MMOs I’ve played, but got the game to a stable situation pretty fast.
I expect we can lay back on bugs and viability by January at this rate.

Changes are great

I too feel changes are very good, as usual Anet is great at balancing.

Things left to fix in the long run:

1) Flanking Strike is still sadly useless against moving targets, and therefore not viable in any PvP or mobile PvE.
2) Stealth bugs.
a) Character does not go invisible when in stealth.
b) Channeled skills continue “homing” to character after stealth for their full duration.
3) P/P could use some love. It’s a bit on the weak side for a 900 range weapon.

When those are fixed the Thief seems pretty final to me.
I’m in no hurry tho, I hear other classes are more buggy so they have the priority.

If Warriors are so bad at pvp then why.............

You burst people much better with Thief.
You survive and support much better with Guardian.
You AoE much better with Ele/Engi.
You DPS ranged DPS much better with Ranger/Engi.
You control much better with Mesmer.
You deal conditions much better with Thief/Ele/Necro.

Warrior is a 7/10 in all roles he fully specs into, but outclassed in every single one of those roles by 10/10 classes.
Let alone the fact his good skills are also the easiest in the game to avoid or counter.

It’s not bad, it’s simply inferior to others.

Guys, GW2 has 0% chance to get gear-progression based.
Zero percent. None. Void. Null. Non-existent.
It will never happen.
People actually play it for this very reason, they are here because they are tired to run on treadmills.
If you don’t like this at all and want to outgear people you can’t outskill, GW2 is the wrongest game ever for you.

Disagreed completely on the assassin part.
Not only D/D plays exactly as I’d expect it an Assassin to play, but just look at my armor below.
It doesn’t really get more assassin than this.

And you can play it pirate-style with S/P, you can play it adventurer-style with D/P, pistoleer style with P/P, green arrow style with SB, duelist style with S/D, ninja style with DB, thief style with full steal build…
7 archetypes in one class? Yes, thank you. Much better than being locked into assassin for all my life.

Is there any? I just started playing but it seems you can do anything you want from the start. I maybe overlooking something but what’s the motivation to level?

There is no motivation to level beside getting traits/skills.
There does not need to be one, actually.
What you do in the world from 1 to 80 is having fun with the hundreds of events and hearts around, explore Tyria, enjoy yourself.

Guild Wars 2 is like fine wine; unlike the boxed wine swill you’re used to getting from other MMO’s, where the only option is to chug it just to get past the horrible taste, you enjoy every tip slowly over time.

I completely agree OP.

With my guild we rolled much larger armies by using tactics and coordination.
For instance I was sent with 20 men to setup 1 treb camp to tear down a keep’s wall.
I had my men build carts on a cliff near the entrance, along with a couple Eles, had my guardians use terrain control and timed reflections, got 25 might to all team through combo fields.
We got MASSIVE zergs of people trying to get into the camp and getting rolled every time.

WvW gives great value to battle strategy and tactics, this feature alone is worth the game.

Is it positive to follow the line of 'no forced grouping in personal story'?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

Forced grouping is terrible design.

Most groups want to plow through content, what if you want to stop by a NPC to listen to him or go on that hill to take a screenshot?
The team will just force you to follow them or kick you.
In dungeons I had people ask me to skip cinematics, which says a lot of what would happen if there was forced grouping.

I also don’t like to be forced to do anything honestly.

WvWvW isn’t about skills. It’s more about numbers and bandwagoning.

Then why a coordinated guild using proper tactics and combos can wipe an entire server off that counts 10 times their numbers?
With “numbers and bandwagoning” all you achieve is feeding us badges – with that mentality you can only win against servers of disorganized baddies.

GW2's Largest problem- Community-lack of.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

1. I see no reason for a server forum. Even in the most played MMOs they are dead after a few weeks.
2. Good point, I’d like to have avatars too.
3. I don’t see the need of seeing enemy names in WvW. They are enemies, you kill them, you don’t need to know who they are or anything.
This is good because this way I don’t get hate PMs from people I kill.
4. I have no problem with the community, I have a thousand active players from my guilds.
You’re supposed to use guilds as community hubs to get to know and pick players from.

GW2 is no less no more community-catering than other MMOs, it just does it differently.
Please realize that GW2 is either adapt to the new or go back to the old, it’s never going to clone other games’ systems.
If it was going to, it would lose the large majority of its community (which is the one playing the game, not the one continuously asking to turn this game into a generic MMO in these forums).

PvP is supposed to be about skill. If you don’t want to compete because you can’t get better gear than others, then you never wanted to actually pvp anyway. You just wanted to pwn faces because you either spent more money or had more time than people with jobs/families etc…

This.

Honestly this thread is proof of why people want gear treadmills, they want to pwn undergeared people and feel strong while they would get rolled on fair grounds.

Sunday morning: Two hours in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

@Sam
I believe you’re going to run in the same issue on any MMO.
In WoW, which is supposedly the most played MMO, I wasn’t able to find anyone during mornings (too bad because back then I has a lot of free mornings).
Beween 3am and 10am I barely ever seen 1-2 players in each map.
If you do the math, GW2 has currently 8k+ constant people per server, on 52 servers.
That sums up to 2mil total players, or 500k cuncurrent players.
Considering to join a Guild might be a good idea, since Anet made multi-guilding with the very purpose of having many social hubs to pick players from.
I’m sorry you failed to realize this feature thus far, but I believe it will be easy for you to find 3-4 guilds to join.

Btw it’s curious you did not mention your class, level, what events you were doing, etc.
It doesn’t seems like you’re looking for advice, it sounds a lot like “I already made my mind up and don’t want to hear anything beside other one-sided complaints, I will never consider I’m doing something wrong”.
I lvl’d 3 chars to 80 completely solo and didn’t have any issue; perhaps consider you might be in need of help?
You know, Thief is a disaster to level by raw damage, but swap to conditions and you steamroll through 10 mobs.

As a general rule for life and games alike, the more you’re willing to learn the wiser you get.
The more you make your mind up the more ignorant you’ll be.
Pick whatever philosophy sounds better to you

Need better mob HP scaling for events.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

Been suggesting this for a month, hope it’s on their radar.
Events just become faceroll beyond 4-5 players, it’s a needed fix but perhaps the current priorities are others.
I’d really like to hear if Anet is aware of this and they are planning a fix.

Wealth Distribution

Red Falcon.8257

This is the largely the result of an endless stream of currency, people will blame gold-sellers, but they are only a small part of the problem. The largest inflation in real life is caused by the government printing too much money. Money only has value so long as there is a limited supply.

GW2, like all MMOs, creates money out of thin air each time a quest is completed, a mob is killed, or an event is completed. Much like the US government has been doing for years over-printing US currency.

The more money you create, the less each individual unit of money is worth. The less money is worth the more merchants, traders, and businessmen want for their goods and services. The only way to break the cycle is to stop making money, the only way to reduce the inflation is to destroy currency.

You forgot one important thing.
When one buys anything from merchant, that money is completely gone.
When one repairs or uses a waypoint, that money is completely gone.
GW2 might be creating thousands of gold daily but it also deletes thousands of gold.
One people repairing is 10s, but 100k people repairing is 1mil silver = 10k gold gone completely.
Let alone AH fees.

Naoko, is that trolling?
Traditional MMO players are afraid to face people on even grounds and therefore play games where they can get unfair advantages over more skilled people by grinding.
It’s like giving robotic gloves to a boxer because he sat in the gym 20 hours a day throwing a jab at the sack.

Traditional MMOs are theme parks for baddies to outgear people and feel like they are good, even though they are just given statistical advantage.
Those people are dead scared of anything on fair grounds and skill-based.
The OP proved this point strongly by claiming he wants to get PvP advantages by grinding.

GW2 will never allow such a cheap and unfair system – everyone is on the same ground and the best will survive.
Baddies better run back to WoW to kill undergeared people and feel like they are good.
