@manwiththemachinegun
I don’t know how you consider half of those examples of the player being the focus of the story. They’re nothing more than a “hello.” A greeting. The other half seem to be words from Trahearne himself, which are entirely irrelevant. The problem is the role you play in the story vs. the role Trahearne plays. Batman praising Robin and showing him respect doesn’t change the fact that it’s still Robin.
Good analogy.
I believe Trahearne would fit as a Pact leader only if a lot of story was put behind him (which would require more storytelling and missions about him earlier), and only if he did something at least as outstanding as putting dragons back to sleep a la Destiny’s Edge – or at least if he had some special powers.
The only good thing is that he’s neutral to both orders and races so they have no reason to hold prejudice.
Instead Trahearne jumps out of nowhere with popped collars and backwards baseball hat, making you wonder what the hell is happening to all you experienced to far.
I love the myriad number of excuses here, 4chan community, welcome to the internet, and the item I quoted above. How about this people take responsibilty for yourselves and maybe take advise from the Golden Rule:
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Mt 7:12
For those that enjoy treating others with spite and hatefulness I have to wonder what has happened to you in your life that makes you want to treat people with malice. Truth is the more you treat people with ugliness the more the ugliness comes back on you.
I actually agree with what you say, my point was to show that internet gives a way to people to say things without consequences.
I dream of a day where everyone’s name is shown and they get repercussions for wrongdoings even online; but of course they will come up with all excuses like privacy blah blah.
As a matter of fact you can be the finest gentleman in the world and still get ugliness thrown at you if you hang out with immature crowd.
Hence why a good mature guild is the way to go!
I haven’t hit diminishing returns on a long while, they relaxed the system in the last patch.
Soulbound is because you’re supposed to gear up every character separately I guess.
GW2 is rated T, gotta get used to some childish behaviors out there.
Good parenting is almost non-existent nowadays, don’t expect the new generations to come up with a mature reply, just find a guild with mature individuals and ignore the rest.
Here are your answers:
1) Frostbite is banned because Anet bans every harmful medical condition.
For all you know your next player’s sister could have died of it and it wouldn’t be cool to remind him.
2) Shujaa is a famous anti-death row activist, political names are not allowed either.
It doesn’t take a lot of effort to make a name that doesn’t remind of anything bad or offends anyone or relates to some IRL incidents/people/politics etc.
Just drop the axe and go make an harmless name if you want to play GW2, else don’t play it.

I never lost to a Thief on my Warrior.
Endure Pain, Defy Pain, Shield Block = 11s invul (when traited for stances).
Hammer > burst Thief as they have no stunbreakers or just one, they die in 4 hits.
You’re playing Warrior wrong OP.
You don’t “wait for him to open”, you dodge the spike or use CDs.
@manwiththemachinegun
Don’t take offense but I tend to believe wiki over random people on the internet when it comes to definitions; perhaps I’m biased because I’ve seen people twisting meanings of terms a lot in forums.
As for Trahearne.
It’s not about you not getting the credit, it’s the bad way Trahearne is introduced and handled.
That whole piece of story makes no sense and is irritating, especially as it happens after one of the deepest moments of the story.
In general, when you kill a core character, you need to replace it with something equally deep or more.
Perhaps they were forced to release so they didn’t go as deep but my point stands that the whole Trahearne part was a fiasco.
Trahearne in his current state can have a part in your story as a side helper or something similar, certainly not the main leader of the Pact.
To lead the Patch a character needs to at least meet their depth if not exceed it, else it will feel like he’s forced in.
So when looking at the big scheme, Trahearne failed to meet the depth requirements you met thus far, and also failed to be a realistic choice for Pact leadership.
Any member of Destiny’s Edge alone is a lot deeper and makes more sense to be the leader, they should have made Trehearne into a similarly deep character – or at least build some hype about him before he “jumps” into your story.
OT: Is you nickname by any chance related to the MIDI with the same name?
Aka this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jho-peCAKs
Still one of my fav pump up songs to listen during MMA/BB.
AutoHotkey isn’t something you can detect or ban, it’s just a code that hits your keyboard buttons / mouse movements.
Of course if you use this for automating your character or doing actions while AFK it’s considered botting.
Note that if this was bannable then all gaming hardware would be bannable as well, as it comes with macro programs.
Please use reason.
Guild Wars 2 is like fine wine; when you first open it up, you shouldn’t immediately start chugging. You gotta let it breathe and savor it over time. This isnt the boxed wine swill you’re used to getting from other MMO’s, where the only option is to chug it just to get past the horrible taste. Both wines will get you just as drunk, but they have to be approached and enjoyed differently. If GW2 is too rich for your tastes, I’m sure Pandacraft would love to sell you its boxed wine swill for $15 every month. Cheers.
Perfect analogy right there.
Were people suprise that many GW2 players are complaining about PVE Endgame?

@Josher
Unfreeze your wow account then, problem solved.
As many stated in this thread, those some of you mention as “lacks” are actually the reason people love this game.
It’s purposely like this, we want it like this.
GW2 will never be like WoW because we not want another WoW clone.
GW2 was sold as something completely different than the traditional MMO based on grinding, inspect, stealing, tank gimmicks, etc.
My advice is to read the box before you buy a product.
You’re basically complaining your new stereo does not make coffee.
I believe people should be banned for “GW2 will fail if…” posts.
Leveling fast is not a bad thing in a game like GW2.
It’s not like levels have a point to be in imo, for all it matters they can remove levels altogether.

The reason GW2 stands out is -because- it’s not another treadmill party.
@80 there is a lot to do that is yet not required to be “on par” with others.
You get your exotics 10 hours after 80 and then it’s all about what you want.
You may not realize it but there are a few millions of gamers who aren’t gullible and know that “endgame” does not exist in any game.
Some games just keep you running in circles, farming the same content for gear to milk money out of you, that way by nolifing in dungeons you outgear people, kill them, and feel you are better than them.
This is not an “endgame”, it’s a mind chain to keep you from noticing the game is long over and you’re repeating the same content like a zombie.
GW2 caters to people who are tired of running in circles – complaints are from people who expected another traditional MMO regardless if Anet yelled the opposite for months.
Would be cool if Anet offered a free WoW trial month to people who aren’t happy with GW2.
Like “Don’t like chess? Don’t worry here is your tic-tac-toe”.
Did you report the incriminated posts?
<- Never lost to Thief on any class with 2800 or more armor.
They burst me for 8k at most, I heal, gib them, ta-da.
But it’s fun to play as Thief as most people go full glass and you can gib them before they can do anything.
Perhaps this way people will learn the hard way to stack armor.
I don’t think there is a way to get “unfair advantages” with gems.
Gold doesn’t make you better or stronger than any other 80 with exotics out there.
You just made yourself on par with them from a statistical point of view, that’s about it; you saved yourself 10 hours or so.
The only reason I would buy gems would be the permanent mechants and a thing to remove waypoint fees, everything else is not appealing to me so far.
It’s quite simple, this one makes right click into a toggle and automatically toggles back to cursor when you hit map/inventory/hero screen.

That’s not what a Sue is, at all.
A Sue is someone who fixes every problem, does everything by themself, is constantly saving the ‘real’ heroes, and whom everyone, unquestionably, adores.
THAT is a Sue.
A Sue is not a competent leader who asks their subordinates for advice and suggestions, a Sue does not need the help of others to accomplish anything.
In no shape, model or form can T-Paine be considered a Sue.
Your definition is just wrong. Many characters can be unlikeable, or despised and not be Sues.
Nope.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue
“A Mary Sue is a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws”
Exactly what I said.
Perhaps you should read definitions of specific terms before telling others they don’t know those definitions.
There are about 2000 hours of gameplay in just PvE if you play at least 3 chars and want all the different exotic sets (zerk, knight, etc).
We also have 33 unique dungeon quests, DEs, etc.
They said they will make boss hunting profitable (even champs) so hopefully we’ll get boss hunting as endgame activity too.
I got 80 warrior, 80 guard, 60 thief.
Thief is the fastest by a long shot so far, we’ll see at 80.
You can already use autohotkey to code a very easy right click toggle.
Thanks for noticing that loot is scarce in open world / bosses.
Ultimately, those are things that cannot be automated so us players would be the only one getting such good loots.
I really miss the “boss hunting” from GW1, hope it’s made viable again
I’ve been gaming for 20 years and I don’t find the story any predictable or “for kids” until you meet Trahearne, then for the most part yes, it’s a clichè.
Btw there is no such things as too old for gaming.
I have a 70 years old friend who plays GW2 and was the leader of one of the strongest PvP clans in L2.
@Chad
Mary Sue means a character that’s idealized and uses clichès.
Trahearne is exactly that in my opinion; nothing is wrong or shady about him, he’s the all good boy of the pack.
Logan is also a “good boy” but at least he did mistakes in the past, there is some depth to him.
Trahearne has no depth, he jumps out of nowhere and states his mission is to heal Orr and unite the orders against the dragons etc… Isn’t something missing here?
It’s completely unrealistic that other NPCs are going to accept him right away, and the mission where he “proves himself” seems just a quick way to get him in the role they wanted him in.
Realistically, all he’s got is knowledge about Orr, he did nothing to Tyria or to really prove he can lead an army against a Dragon.
Destinity’s Edge won battles against Dragons and represent all races, it would make a lot more sense for them to be the final team.
Especially since all of its members have a lot of depth to them, they are renowned heroes and very powerful.
They perfectly fit there, while him does not in the least – when NPCs agree with him it sounds very finctional and unrealistic, it breaks the immersion.
Henche why most people are disappointed with the Trahearne part of the story.
I don’t believe in Vitality.
2800-3000 armor does all I need on all my classes; this and a good build is all I need.
Dear Robert,
As usual we have a playerbase that wants hard content and another that wants normal difficulty.
You resolved this very well in GW1 by splitting difficulties, hope to see the same here at some point.
So here is the question: Do you plan on adding harder modes?
Hard Mode / hard content will come at some point as usual.
They changed the current dungeon to easy because a large portion of the players complained the difficulty.
Hope it helped.
Thieves are by far the easiest class to beat on my Warrior.
Endure pain + Defy pain + Balanced stance + 3000 armor + Mending > all Thief builds.
They need at least a 45s span to plow through all this, and they go down in a sneeze.
The funniest counter is Volley right before they stealth; if you didn’t know, channeled skills keep hitting/homing to stealthed chars.
Perhaps this is also because I have a Thief so I know all their mechanics.
They are very sensible to CC and conditions, most will be able to trinket one CC/root then the following CC/root will hit – some will try Dagger Storm which makes them into a free kill.
Two words: Eviscerate, Killshot.
80 Warrior, 80 Guardian, 60 Thief, 30 Necro, 12 Ranger.
GTX 670.
Ultra settings, no lag ever.
Thrahearne is the biggest Mary Sue I’ve ever seen in a video game.
- He forces his way to you (his first sentence is in the lines of “I will follow you from now on, period”).
- He somehow knows all NPCs and is a legend among all orders for unknown reasons, even tho he’s a library rat with zero experience.
- He can enforce his decisions on NPCs and they will all bend to him.
- He leads you into a dead end and then goes “Hey commander I screwed up, any idea?”, then his solution is to spawn a few golems that will die in seconds.
- He steals your role without asking, and even dares to demote you to his second in command lakey.
- He constantly makes Jesus-like remarks as if he’s destined to save the world and heal Orr.
- He has no bond to you, he is forced in the story and does nothing to save your life or to be your friend, unlike Tybalt, Forgal or the Priory girl (forgot the name, my gf did that story path).
- He’s there just to make the average teenager believe that if they study a lot one day everyone will bow to them.
- He never did a wrong or anything, he’s the perfect being with pure heart and intentions.
I loved GW2 story to death until Trahearne.
Then I just skip all and try to get story done as quickly as possible.
(edited by Red Falcon.8257)
I believe 1 million on a rabbit with Killshot.
Poor rabbits, they are so cute.
Played GW1 7 years, loved the lore and story.
Played Daoc years, loved RvR.
Played L2 4 years, loved the mass PvP and sieges.
Played action combat MMO, loved action combat.
Played traditional MMOs, hated PvE griefing and treadmills.
Stopped playing MMOs, dreamed a lot since of a MMO with all this in one game.
Then a wild GW2 appears, with everything I dreamed of packed in.
I’m here for the long run.
HS deals joke damage above 50% health, I can’t see any decent thief using it unless it’s for gap closing.
Also keep in mind HS is kind of buggy, many times the game will cast it another time when if you pressed the button once.
I agree completely.
I haven’t done much sPvP due to this specific reason.
Point-holding becomes gimmicky quick, and there are another 20 more entertaining modest o be made.
Many say this is a “pvp game” but it makes no sense sPvP has very few maps and 1 game, while PvE and WvW have 15gb of features.
Hopefully more will come at some point.
They said it’s all on their radar so it’s just a matter of time.
@Stin
My reason for 270% instead of 220% is I was considering bonuses from might stack, traits, AS etc so I thought adding 50% critdmg would give a better average picture of the average situation when facing a Thief with all CDs/traits up.
Tried to make it as average as possible without doing 5 pages of boring calculations.
Of course you’re free to do it if you want.
Here is the formula: Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
Here are skill coefficients: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Skill-Coefficients-for-all-the-Thief-weapons/first#post467096
Have fun with math
Realistically though, most classes have a trait that makes them unburstable.
Ele got final shielding, Warrior got Defy pain, Thief got stealth @ 25%, and so on.
So against any of those, killing in 2 seconds is pretty much impossible if they slot those traits.
@Dan
Combat log bugs perhaps, most of the results are bugged – it even states the wrong skill names a lot of times.
I ran a prot Guardian in sPvP for quite a bit and I don’t recall being hit for more than 6k (these being from signet assassins).
@Anxiety
WvW damage does not matter.
There are very large bonuses to damage due to gear etc, that’s why Anet balances around sPvP.
Red, please don’t bring facts into this sub forum.
It’s sole purpose is for bads to exaggerate and blow way out of proportion just how OP they want to believe this class is and thus beg for nerfs.
Uh, isn’t the point of facts to dismiss opinionated garbage?
Perhaps people will understand the value of toughness.
I still have this tiny bit of faith in the average Joe out there :p
“Hey honey I’ve seen a site on your PC the other day, let me see web history to see if I can fin-”
Double dodge + double infiltrator arrow + withdraw + roll for initiative + shadowstep.
“Why do bosses have so much health?”
Why does your team have so low DPS?
Pfft, you quoted “participate” as a key word, yet your spelling of it is abysmal.
Sorry about spelling issues, I’m not native English.
English is actually my 3rd language hehe.
I posted a thread with math about skills a few minutes ago.
It’s apparent that armor makes a big difference, perhaps people will learn this at some point.
Because if they nerf again I guarantee anyone with some toughness will be nigh unkillable.
I just realized that there is a lot of feedback from players but little we know of how devs feel about all this.
Through all the pre-release communications you basically made us “partecipate” in the creation of GW2, so I’d really like if some of you could take a break to talk a bit about your feelings for this experience and the general atmosphere in your HQ.
I imagine the boss is flailing the whip to make you work a lot but I’m pretty sure many of us would love to hear how do you feel after almost 2 months into release.
You know, sometimes empathy can do a lot more than anything in this world
I read a lot of opinions around so I thought I’d post the facts, aka math.
I’m considering a full glass cannon thief with 270% crit damage and 2000 power in my calcs.
Skill math.
- Backstab -
On 3200 armor backstab will hit for 3855 damage.
On 3000 armor backstab will hit for 4112 damage.
On 2800 armor backstab will hit for 4406 damage.
On 2600 armor backstab will hit for 4745 damage.
On 2400 armor backstab will hit for 5140 damage.
On 2200 armor backstab will hit for 5608 damage.
On 2000 armor backstab will hit for 6168 damage.
- Cloack & Dagger -
On 3200 armor CnD will hit for 2570 damage.
On 3000 armor CnD will hit for 2741 damage.
On 2800 armor CnD will hit for 2937 damage.
On 2600 armor CnD will hit for 3163 damage.
On 2400 armor CnD will hit for 3427 damage.
On 2200 armor CnD will hit for 3738 damage.
On 2000 armor CnD will hit for 4112 damage.
I don’t have coefficients for Mug but from personal tests and videos I’ll take a 2k on 3000 armor and 4k on 2200 armor.
Results.
- On a 3000 armor character you’re being bursted for 8853 damage.
- On a 2200 armor character you’re being bursted for 13,346 damage.
NB: This is considering the target stands still and does absolutely nothing, and the thief hits the back all the times, and all hits crit. The worst possible scenario.
Player skill.
I’ll add a bare minimum of basic player skill for evaluation.
Since the initial combo leaves well enough time for reaction, any decent PvPer will nullify backstab through either movement, dodging and/or anti-burst CDs (block, invul, blind, evade, CC).
Therefore:
- With basic PvP skills, on 3000 armor with basic PvP skill decent player you’re being bursted for 4741 damage.
- With basic PvP skills, on a 2200 armor character you’re being bursted for 7738 damage.
Conclusion.
- Thief can kill players that have zero defense and lack basic PvP skills
- Thief can deal 8k burst on players with zero defense but have basic PvP skills
- Thief can deal 9k damage on people with good defense but lack basic PvP skills
- Thief can deal 4.7k burst on players with good defense and basic PvP skills
TL;DR
- Glass cannon Thief will kill skill-less players with no defense in one burst.
- Glass cannon Thief will halve the health of a glass cannon with basic PvP skills.
- Glass cannon Thief will halve the health of a skill-less player with good defense.
- Glass cannon Thief will burst a player with good defense and basic PvP skills for less than 5k damage.
Hope this helped to better understand the Thief, and in general the basic fundaments of PvP.
Thank you for reading.
Thief is THE glass cannon killer, and it should remain so.
People need to stop going into any PvP with no toughness.
