I don’t think it’ll be like that.

1) They’d have to lock that content for new players, won’t happen.
2) Expansions doesn’t mean “the future”, it can be something happening at the same time I.E. Cantha during the same time we are now.

GW2, misunderstood game

Red Falcon.8257

A lot of people on these forums need to get over the idea that "the way I play the game is the true definition of ‘fun’

Yep.

But what I dislike more is hearing things like “DEs are just zergs” from people who have no clue about DEs.
Because if they did they would know the huge depth DEs have, the dozen of different possibilites and the hundreds of consequences they cause.

This is why I say misunderstood.
People don’t go deep into things and then gets the game wrong.
It’s like looking at the surface of sea and say that submarine environment sucks.

I would be really mad if I was a dev and make a DE chain with 300 consequences, and then hear someone say DEs suck and are just zergs.

Need advice for my build.

The problem is you are stuck with 60% crit chance at best, which means backstab is hitting for joke damage half the time, and thus letting you in a bad situation where you are vulnerable and didn’t achieve anything.
Hidden Killer resolves this issue completely but 20% damage is a big loss.

I guess the only way to get guaranteed backstabs and Executioner is Sigil of Intelligence then.

The only real issue I have with the game is after lvl 80 waypoint costs are too high to be able to “enjoy the world” as they said we would.
Unless you farm, you’re going bankrupt if you are a person who likes to play with others around Tyria.

The rest of the game is miles above anything.

DEs are weak. Simple zergfests and nothing more, they have little to no impact on the world and just repeat endlessly.

Proof of what I was saying in the OP.
People just zerg DEs brainlessly and don’t realize what DEs actually do.
One DE can lead to chains that change the entire zone completely (either positively or negatively).

Sad that online gamers are still that immature from a gaming perspective.
Bringing traditional MMO players into GW2 is like bringing a deaf man to a concert.

I hope at one point this kind of game will have its own genre and its own userbase; those who want a dynamic, living world instead of “MUST…LEVEL…PLAYERS=ZERG… NNNNNGHHHHH”.

It’s pretty clear those types of players are not ready for playing a proper game.

I have a feeling GW2 did not fully get to a part of players.
I read some “exit reviews” and realize not only most people didn’t understand the game but they also didn’t notice the revolutions of the game.

For instance, the dynamicity of the world is by a large extent something completely new to the gaming market.
It’s a world’s first.
The way NPCs contend land and through 50 events cause 500 different consequences and situations, the way they ally with other NPCs temporarily.
For instance, when you harvest “unexploded shots” in Kessex Hills.
Most players believe it’s just fetch questing – yet an hour earlier a real battle happened, with centaurs first building a bridge, getting through, conquering a fort and then sending 3 siege units to besiege a nearby village.
And that is where those unexploded shots were from. It’s all linked to real occurrences in the world, that are consequence of other event chains.
I can just wonder the amount of coding that went into to create something like this.
And the amount of creativity, too.

Then why is GW2 being misunderstood as a traditional MMO rather than being played for what it is?
Perhaps gamers are not ready for this, the leap between traditional MMO and GW2 is too long for a generation that was used to much more simple formats?
For instance, computers weren’t immediately accepted in the society back in my days, people still didn’t recognize their potential and used them the wrong way.
But look at them now.

What’s your take on this?

Best thing you've seen in game?

My best moment was during a DE chain, where Asuras as usual do experiments on Ettins.
This time things go wrong and the Ettin becomes more intelligent than the Asura after the experiment, completely owning the rat with superior intellect and then turning into a super Ettin and mauling his face into the ground.

You get the event to kill the Ettin but I refused to.
The Ettin was right. They were doing nothing wrong, Asuras did experiments on them and it backfired on them.
Well served!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

I respect your opinion, but I actually find GW2 skill-based combat miles above “spamming a pre-made rotation with low ping while having all castbars and other babyproof systems” WoW gimmick.

In WoW every class has a precise rotation that is just the best, with a couple cooldowns to time and that’s about it.
In GW2 there is no rotation, you need to use your abilities when they are actually needed – and timing is crucial.

If you believe the WoW gimmick is better then I’m afraid this game is not for you.
To each his own I guess, but there is 0% chance that Anet will change this awesome combat to meet the needs of a WoW player.

I’m sorry you need a “purpose” (which is nothing else as an illusionary water glass in the desert to keep you struggling).
The purpose of games is having fun.

GW2 offers fun in the means of an interactive, very dynamic world (Kessex Hills alone is probably more alive than most games) where you can partecipate and have fun.
It also offers RvR and structured PvP.

If you were more into chasing ghosts I suggest a traditional MMO.

I farm Orr for two hours a day, If i luck out and get yellow’s i can put them on the AH and they will sell. Usually i make anywhere from 20s-1g. That being said traveling to the area’s i need to and then check for dragons each day i net a loss of -50/60s. So every day i may come out ahead by max 30s. Something is wrong there.

This.

Gold sinks (aka taxes) are way, way too big for the little money we make.

10 trips between Cursed/Frostgorge/LA are already worth 50s.
Add another 20 teleports for 2.5s each = another 50 silver.
1 gold spent a day in just teleports. And this assuming you only port 30 times.
If you play normally (no farming) you WILL go bankrupt.

I had 1g yesterday, today I’m bankrupt because I decided to help some guildies level and do some jumping puzzles (aka “playing the game to have fun” as the Anet motto goes), and I’m broke.
I’m broke because taxes > playing the game.

At this point I’m forced to just farm dungeons, because “playing the game to have fun” is not viable from an economical point of vew.

I made another thread about this too.

Currently, the only way to get money that is more than you spend for gold sinks is doing dungeons.
Everything else is either just enough to pay for gold sinks or even less.

Let's talk about Gold.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Red Falcon.8257

1-2. Gambling is made to lose money not make it, nor it can be considered a reliable way to not go bankrupt.
3. I doubt it is meant that to not go bankrupt you need have to own multiple lvl 80s and harvest with them.
4. Raid boss loot is currently terrible, a single DE in Orr prolly rewards more.
5. As i said, playing the game leads to bankrupt due to excessive gold sinks and the fact you hit DR after 40 min or so and therefore your loots will make less cash than you need to keep paying for gold sinks

Currently, one is either farming dungeons / harvesting brainlessly on many chars, or he is just struggling to pay gold sinks.

This really feels like living in a high-taxes state where your earnings are barely enough to pay for taxes.

So what’s the solution to get reliable crit rate?

Let's talk about Gold.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

I realized that farming or doing DEs it isn’t an option since after half hour you start getting only trophies/whites.
The money I make doing the above is just enough to pay for waypoint fees.
Harvesting can net you another 40s or so, only once a day, and again this does into repairs, TP fees etc.
Basically what you can get from the entire world of GW2 is enough to pay for gold sinks.

Dungeons is pretty much the only way left to get gold.
I believe Anet is doing this because bots can’t do dungeons, but I believe there should be more ways to get gold than those 8 instances.

As a solution, I’ve seen that some zones are impossible for bots; I.E. the place with flame towers in Fireheart Rise is hard to survive for players, go figure bots.
So why not just make the end zones filled with these towers (perhaps immune to ranged damage? since most bots are rangers) so we can make money without bots exploiting it.

Or is it intended that once 80 you just do dungeons over and over?
I really like if I could make money by doing other things, as in, in the world.
I love Tyria but I get the feeling that I’m locked into a cave to farm dungeons if I want to survive economically.
If it stays like this there is little difference from being locked into a cave to farm better gear that other MMOs have.

GW2 offers many different activities, a lively world filled with awesome.
But realistically, the only one of them that won’t make your bank account red is dungeons.
Unless I’m missing something.

PS: please keep this objective and costructive.
I will report baseless complaints or anything, I want adult debate.

Red Falcon.8257

I’m building a Thief and I’m really into 0/30/20/20/0.
The issue is that I don’t get fury, will this be a problem?
I really want the “fury on steal” trait from trickery, but I cannot get myself to lose +1s stealth and stealthing steal from shadow tree, nor I can let go the +2i/10s and major endurance boost from 20 acrobatics.
Dropping first strikes / executioner and the crit damage / precision buff seems even less worthy.
These seem the best traits we have and too much of tide-turning traits to just let them go.

But isn’t my crit going to suck if I don’t get fury?
Assuming I can get to 45% with stats, 10% from sigils (5% while above 90%hp).
That means every other backstab will hit for nothing.

If I really have to, I’ll just drop 10 from acrobatics.

That is all. Literally I just described the game once your 80 (PVE only).

That’s completely false.

I got 411 hours in the game, 2 80s with exotics and I’ve yet to grind or get 100% map.

There are objectively plenty of things to do and plenty of variety unless one locks himself into repeating things; but that is completely player’s fault, Anet cannot force you to not act like a zombie.
