Me and my gf trying to find a POI.
Me: “I think there is a cave here, the dot is in the mountain”
Her: “Let’s look for it”
<5 minutes later>
Me: “What the hell there is no way to get in!”
Her: “Perhaps from underwater?”
Me: “Or maybe there is another cavern that leads here through the path”
Her: “Ok let’s look there maybe we’ll fi-”
Me: “What?”
Her: “Turn back -_-”
And then we see this GIANT cave entrance that could fit 2 trucks in it right behind our backs.
We exploded in laughter.
Hammer is the only weapon that isn’t nerfed into oblivion and is still good for PvP.
Reminds you of anything? <points at GW1>
I can still stomp well with hammer but I can’t get beyond the fact every other weapon is not PvP-viable, and honestly I don’t like hammers.
But Anet believes the Warrior is complete so I’ve kind of shelved my Warrior for PvP.
Perhaps one day, when it’ll get even lower in the sPvP meta, they will realize the issue.
Bad news first:
Against a good Warrior there is no way to win through burst.
Against burst Thieves I simply EP then open with quick stunlock combos for 12-14k total, then if they run I toss a 8k goodbye Volley to close the deal.
Against dodgy ones I outlast them – though most times those get to escape my hands before I finish the job.
Against condition Thieves it’s a close call. I wait until they stack all bleeds (out of init) then remove them all with Mending and heal the damage they did so far, but they are very slippery so the thing gets long unless someone else jumps in.
Against pistol whip thieves… easiest fight of my life, Balanced Stance/Last Stand = 20s immunity to stun, gg, just save time and ready your cursor on waypoint.
Now the good news.
Most Warriors are awful terribad failscrubs of noobdom.
They don’t know anything of the above, will just frenzy->bull’s charge->Hb and chicken away if it fails, perhaps doing some very laughable Whirling Axe during the process as a confirmation of they bad status.
If you meet these types, please do your worst on them, and wave them on my behalf.

Below are two simple commands that would help to implement a further sence of server community :
/inspect xxxx
/duel xxxx
How would /inspect give a “sense of server community”?
The server unites to spy each other’s underwear’s stats?
“Hey you have such nice condition damage on that bra, let’s be friends!”

It’s possible the guys isn’t lying about the 70 hours.
My girlfriend had 82 hours in and has an exotic set.
I haven’t helped her… I actually, ehm, owe her 2g still.
I enjoy Thief, Warrior and Guardian.
Guardian a bit shelved for now, I can’t get to love it like my Thief and Warrior.
Haven’t tried other classes yet, but I doubt I would enjoy them… I’m either a plate soldier or a stealthy assassin in RPGs, I find mages boring.
I sometimes like archers too but only when they are interesting to play (aka not 1button brainless like GW2 Ranger).
If you play the game a little more like Skyrim and less like WoW, you’ll find that there are hundreds and hundreds of hours of game play here
Been trying to say this for two months now.
BLAM!
Holy Dwayna.
That was a 40k crit at the very least.
Warmonkeys need to be toned down ASAP.
They are releasing custom arenas where you can battle anyone you want.
I don’t see the need of duels in PvE. It’s PvE. If you want PvP go into PvP.
Dragoon.
Heavy Armored pet class.
^^
Dragoon would be epic, especially now with all the emphasis on Dragons.
Heavy armor creates a problem, in that they are very survivable classes and prone to being “overpowered”, because they typically come with high health and pretty high damage.
Not in GW2.
Heavy armor is 200 armor rating above medium, which is 200 armor rating above light.
200 armor doesn’t make you a “very survivable class”.
Here is a little guide on how to get neverending longevity.
2000+ hours of PvE at lvl 80
- Get all exotics sets available to each of your characters (aka 1 berzerker, 1 knight, etc).
Every character needs at least 3 sets of armors in order to play all of its builds at the maximum efficiency, let alone weapons and jewels.
This should take minimum 300 hours per character.
- Do all dungeons on all paths (33 different ones), per character, per build.
Every time is different, especially if you run different builds/classes.
This should cover 500 hours at least, without having you do the same thing.
- Discover all the dynamic events and all their chains, including the hidden events.
This is very entertaining, shows you the huge depth of the DE system, and rewards you another 500 hours of fun.
- Get all the skins you like on every character you have.
Should take 10-100+ hours.
- Get 100% map completion. 100-200 hours prolly, depending on the state of WvW.
- Do all the 12+ raid bosses. Should take a dozen of hours.
- Enjoy leveling your crafting skills at 400.
This can take around 100 hours per crafting profession.
Assuming you like at least 3 professions, that’s a minimum of 2000 hours of gameplay.
That’s 5 hours a day for one whole year.
“But I don’t like any of those”
That’s your problem.
Not GW2’s. Not the community’s. Not the forum’s. Not Anet’s.
This offers 2000 hours worth of fun WITHOUT considering any PvP.
And it’s just a launch release.
If you don’t like any of this, then it’s not the game for you.
(edited by Red Falcon.8257)
If I remember correctly Anet isn’t enforcing English in EU servers chats.
I don’t see talking own language in any chat as impolite or wrong in any way, nor I’d like to see players/Anet try to enforce any language.
GW2 is actually what we’ve been waiting to see for years, a MMO that is meant to be played for fun rather than being another field where companies produce and cultivate OCD game addicts.
I feel GW2 has enough content for now, it’s a lot more than any other MMO at launch.
Still, I want UW/FoW/Tomb-like zones at some point.
Perhaps by January or so.
Thief doesn’t need any change currently.
Infact they haven’t changed it in 2 patches, meaning they think it’s ok.

+condition gear (some +toughness gear too if you plan on aggroing 15-20 mobs)
+condition duration sigils/runes
1) Aggro 10 mobs and whatnot.
2) Cast rock barrier, Armor of Earth (if any of the mobs has knockdown)
3) Pack the group (Magnetic Shield if some are ranged), Earthquake->Churning Earth
4) Run/dodge in circles
5) Everything laying dead in seconds, grab loots
Add any other AoE as you wish. Arcane blast, fire skills, whatever.
Should you die you will be immediately rezzed by deaths of bleeds/lava font.
Use heal at will, it gives protection too.
There, all PvE problems fixed, have fun.
PS: My gf is having a blast with this.
I have an 80 Guardian & Warrior, Thieves never killed me on those.
Guardian:
Knight’s armor and wep (3200 armor). Zerk jewels/div runes (12+36 crit dmg).
Protection. Retailation. Shelter. Any CC.
Renewed focus+double VoR. Sanctuary.
Ring of warding is also a great thief counter, trap them in circle and eat them.
Warrior:
Knight’s armor and wep (3200 armor). Zerk jewels/div runes (12+36 crit dmg).
Endure pain, Defy pain, Shield block = 11s immunity to thief burst.
Hammer > Thief.
From here forward it’ll be all about CC’ing the thief long enough to kill him (most times they die in 3 hits, Thieves still have to discover Toughness).
Thief:
Backstab damage has been reduced by 90%.
Stealth has been removed from the game.
Warrior:
Hundred Blades now has a 10 second channel time.
Warrior health has been halved.
Mesmer:
Mesmer take 100% more damage when using clones.
There, the dream balance patch in the eyes of the average baddie out there.
J/k, it was just maintenance.
The class can essentially go full glass cannon with little draw backs because stealth is so powerful. Along with high mobility, crazy ridiculous damage, it is difficult to get a hit in before dying. A warrior that goes class cannon will die before he reaches his target. A thief can kitten around all day and just waltz away if things get sticky.
Nope.
Warrior has Endure Pain and Defy Pain, you gotta be a really really terrible Warrior to die before you reach your target.
More like 10-20 viable builds.
Yes to templates and dual spec for me.
Misinterpretation of semantics.
The fact a weapon is named “legendary” is just a description.
It doesn’t mean the wearer is legendary or has some legendary skills.
I own a legendary pirate sword I got from my ancestor, that does not make me legendary by default just for owning it.
Anyone still claiming thief is not OP?
I’ve actually seen a thief do that. Not 100 mobs but a heck of a lot more than my ranger could handle.
I’ll grant that it’s not just thief OPness that makes it possible, it does require player skill.
You can do the same with an Ele, Ranger and Warrior, Thief is just less likely to die due to stealth.
If you think the Thief is OP try looking at your armor rating and your anti-burst skills please.
It’s getting more ridiculous than the hundred blade complaints.
Your post summarizes as:
I’m terrible at playing traditional MMO’s.
I want things with little real effort.
I hate anyone that thinks any other way, but enjoy criticizing them for criticizing.
If you are so polarized on traditional MMO what in the world are you doing in GW2?
This was never aimed to people like you, it’s intended that you don’t like it.
You’re old enough to move on at your age instead of infesting the forums btw.
Yes, until a few months in when all complainers are finally gone complaining into another game’s forum and GW2’s real community remains.
Though I had to say, this is much, much more moderated than any other mmo forum I’ve seen.
It’s a big relief.
It just went down / continuously loading for everyone on Seafarer.
The main issue with conditions is people can remove ALL your stacks with one button.
Until a solution is found I doubt we’ll see anything else than direct damage builds in PvP.
There is a major misconception among gamers; inability to tell player skill from management skill.
Reflexes, timing, reaction = player skill
Managing more buttons = management skill
Obviously Thief is one of the most player skill based classes when it comes to timing, reaction and reflexes.
Having more buttons to press doesn’t require more skill.
The ""OP"" part of the thief is people who stack no toughness and no anti-burst CDs.
/thread
Opinion, opinion, opinion, opinion.
Sometimes you just have to concede that a game isn’t for you.
This.
OP seems too used to traditional MMO mechanics and can’t get them out of his head.
Perhaps when he gets older and tired of them, he will enjoy GW2.
Good luck and have fun.
So you ask for ezmode, child-proof, spoon-feeding, elitism-spreading, gimmick-creating damage meters.
No, thank you.
Well there is at least one reason for this (not the only one of course) but fans of GW, as a whole, who are 30 now would have been 23 when GW1 came out.
Back when I started playing GW1 I was only 19 haha.
You know, I still believe for the standards of 2005 GW1 was the most advanced MMO out there.
Better graphics than most MMO (Lineage 2’s graphics were good too, and that was a 2003 game), better storyline, better PvP…
26 here, loving the game and having a blast.
My only complaint is waypoint fees too high at lvl 80.
Yes, I too believe GW2 is more oriented to a more mature audience, whereas traditional MMO are more oriented to teens due to their child-proof systems (holy trinity ezmode, gear treadmill, etc).
PS: My gf is only 22 but she loves GW2 as well.
She’s a bit too mature for her age tho, so I would count her more as a 24 y/o.

Odd. Media companies make money from good reviews.
((also, if I was sent a free copy (copies!) of GW2 and a bunch of cool promotional stuff from Anet and NCSoft, I’d love the game, too.))
Odd. User reviews don’t make any money and still give GW2 a 9.
Full Carrion gear.
Shadow step in zerg → DB*3 → Steal (stealth), use stolen item → DB*2 → roll for init → DB*2 → Dodge(caltrops)*2 inside of zerg → DB → Shadow return.
Hello, you just spread a minimum of 18 bleeds on the majority of the zerg while being completely immune to them during the whole.
Hey no need to thank me! <tries to unglue OP from his leg>
GW2 already has a very large loyal community.
The problem is people tends to come in forums for complaints, so you’re more likely to find complaints than anything in any gaming forum, from GW2 to WoW.
There are no negative reviews around, all sites give this game 9/10.
As for forum people saying the game sucks because it’s not the umpteenth WoW clone, oh well, who cares?
Here is my story.
Back in I think 2005-6 I was in an electronics store and I saw GW1.
I thought it was like Dungeon Siege or Diablo so I bought it.
Fell in love with it and played for 7 years.
Then I was completely disillusioned in the MMO market because beyond GW1 and partially Lineage 2, nothing lasted me more than a few weeks.
That’s when I started reading articles of GW2 and realized they were making the MMO of my dreams, and coincidentially it was the sequel of the only online game I got to really enjoy.
It seems like Anet’s tastes and preferences for games is, for some reasons, terribly similar to mine.
I agree with the story part.
Trahearne: “Yo! I came out of nowhere and everyone knows me even though I’ve been sitting into a hole to study all my life! You won the most important battles in the story but I’m going to take over and command you all by now, whether you like it or not! Regardless if I have no experience whatsoever with war.”
As much as I love the pre-Trahearne story, after that it was a big downhill for me.
The story was meant to be about me, why a random guy comes in to steal my part is beyond my understanding.
Here are the hard counters to Thieves:
Warrior: Endure Pain, Defy Pain, Shield block.
Guardian: Renewed Focus, Retailation, Shelter, Sanctuary, Ring of Ward, CC.
Mesmer: P.Defender, Chaos Armor, Decoy, Veil.
Ranger: Guard, Signet of Stone, Quick Shot.
Necromancer: Spectral Armor, Well of Corruption, Well of Darkness, Death Shroud.
Elementalist: Arcane Shield, Final Shielding, Earth Armor, Mist Form.
All classes: Toughness.

What you may see as “clueless complaints” I see as criticism. I for one KNOW there are class issues, balancing problems, bots, broken WvWvW system, simplistic dungeon mechanics, countless bug, no real end game motivation, etc etc.
You see, there is a difference between opinions and criticism.
For instance you mentioned a few things.
Class issues/bots/bugs: these are objective issues.
WvW/dungeons/balance/endgame: these are your opinions.
For the first ones, they can be rightfully asked to be done without any problem.
They are malfunctioning mechanics and as such must be fixed.
The second ones are completely subjective; hundreds of thousands see no issues with WvW, dungeons, balance and have no issues with longevity.
As such, you can’t “demand” those. You can say “As I see it, this feature would be better if X,Y,Z” and see what kind of support or non-support you get from players first, then if Anet see there is a large request and believe it can be done, they will do it.
Fundamentally though, you will never get every feature tweaked to your personal tastes.
Adapting is something we all have to do.
Thief by far.
I can solo 100 mobs. Seriously.
Continue to combo DB, dodges(traited for caltrops and endurance gain) and stealths until things die of DoTs.
I also solo Champs with this.
Sure, one mistake and you die.
And you need great reaction times, low ping, high-end hardware.
(edited by Red Falcon.8257)
Blind is one of the most powerful tools in the game.
Blind is 100% chance to completely avoid the next attack.
It’s like Aegis, except it’s a debuff.
In GW2, having your enemy miss, or you dodging and blocking is ALL active.
There is no passive block/dodge/miss like in some gimmick MMOs, you do it manually so it’s actually like if you were really blocking/dodging/missing that hit.
One of the best features in the game imo: when you learn to stack those debuffs/buffs properly and timely, the playstyle becomes a real addiction.

People who pay $60 on a game they cannot return and get a full refund on are more than entitled to their opinions on a game that is in no perfect state. If the criticism of the game is constructive then people are allowed to state their own opinions on it. If you are telling us to not post because you feel the game is perfect then you’re no better than those ranting about issues.
One thing is criticism.
Another thing is clueless complaints, for instance:
- This part of the game sucks! (or some generic statement),
YOU don’t like that part of the game. Learn to subjectivize things.
- The whole game sucks!
Breaking news, just because YOU don’t like a game it doesn’t make it “suck”.
- Anet didn’t deliver the promises!
Features were released exactly like they said in the articles, if you don’t like them then, again, it’s your opinion. Anet never promised everyone would like the way they implemented things.
- But there is no <feature they never wanted in>, so the game sucks!
Apple pie does not contain oranges because they WANTED it made of apples.
You bought an apple pie and expected oranges? Your problem.
I seriously hope you can tell the difference from criticism and clueless complaint.
A heart quest has you turn red hyleks blue, and then reds will attack them.
Reference to Age of Empires 2 meme: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/wololo
For this heart you need to use a gun that turns red hyleks to blue.
After you turn a red hylek to blue, the other red hylek will attack him (just like in AoE2).

After falling your character sometimes locks his animation in the “falling” animation.
Examples in screenshots
In GW1 we had fully movable UI. I loved that.
Perhaps one day it’ll come back, not a priority for me tho.
I believe the majority of medium and heavy armor are very ugly, but if you do some mix-matching you can get something good like this:
