The biggest fail in WvW is the commander system.
100g req made it so that most commander are either rich spoiled kids, pve players and the like.
And this cannot be undone because I cannot see Anet “undoing” commander status to everyone and remake the system better.
So we’re stuck with WvW chat being a circlejerking comedy of people who bought blue icon and seeing commanders waste people to zerg mindlessly or worse.

Amargein, changes are based on common sense and majority.
Just because two people like to decrease their own DPS by using Arcing Slice and getting Fury because they still need to learn how to get permafury (FGJ+SoR, the basics), it means nothing.

I could yell Ele is balanced all day long, but it will be nerfed anyways because it’s objectively OP.
You could yell all day that a burst move that wastes your adrenaline to deal low damage and provide a buff we’re already plentyful of, but that wouldn’t be taken seriously.

There is a reason hundreds of thousands of Warriors do not use AL, and a very few handful do.
Either you’re a genius and everyone else is dumb, or…

I always adapted to changes until this one, because it goes straight against the fundament of GW2.
Kill ten rats and other 0/10 fetching should just stay out of GW2.

Be gratefull, because they give you a constant 20% crit, constant 105 power, constant 105 condi dmg.You know most warrs could switch to self buffs easily, but FGJ is more effecient since it BUFFS allies…Complain more if they keep using it in battles,by all means, ask them to stop Buffing you…..

Yup… I even add Empower Allies and Banner of Strength on top of that when possible, so my whole team gets 370 power and 195 condition damage constantly.

Warrior carry the burden of managing the team’s offense department so yeah be grateful we do these things.
If you look at the stat window and realize your attack just went skyrocket you now know it’s us.

We should really make a big event with all Warriors FGJ’ing.

Shout healing with DPS gear is complete garbage.
You’re basically trading a lot of DPS for very poor 1.2k heals every 20s that take all your utility slots.
That build is GW1 Wammo all over again, looks like people can’t get enough of trying to turn Warriors into poor dmg+poor support paladin wannabees.

Go with a max DPS+offensive support build imo.
I suggest a 20/20/0/10/20 like this.
With this build you have extreme DPS and give 370 power to every member in your team permanently.
Or go with a real support build with cleric gear if you want to support, best be excellent at something than weak at everything.

Nope.

Grind is continuously repeating something. Doing someone once a day isn’t a grind by definition.

I always let Engis in my teams.
Most are bad admittedly, but the good ones are n ice to have.

What I’m afraid of getting is Rangers, 99% of Rangers are bad players, it’s not the class it’s the fact nubs seem to pick Ranger because it’s “easy”, but to be a good Ranger it isn’t easy.
Most Necros ain’t that good either.

Bottom line, if I get an Engi, a Necro and a Ranger I pick the Engi.
At least I get supply drop/turrets that are worth something better than a dead Ranger or a Necro dealing less DPS than my offhand sigil.

^ Guess you’ve never come across a condi theif in WvW – GL with that.

Anyone can make a zerker warrior – Well done, zerker armour, ruby orbs, zerker trinkets 30 / 30 / 0 /10 / 0.

Congratualtions on having the easiest build in the game.

1) So you suggest making a build that is great against the rare chance that you meet alone a rare condi thief, while being inferior than a more zerky/control build against anyone else.
No, thank you.

2) 30/30/0/10 is hardly “the” zerker Warrior build.
A properly min-maxed zerker Warrior build would be 20/25/0/10/15 or 20/20/0/10/20.
There is very little reason to go 30 strength when there are much better traits around.

3) I don’t see how anything in this game can be easier than just spamming 3 shouts when off CD.
Most people running a shout build make a macro to cast all shouts and SoR together.
Basically half of your skillbar is one button: that, is the easiest build in the game.
Probably only a Ranger spamming Crossfire only would manage to get an easier mode than a shout build.
Zerking actually requires proper control applications, timely spiking, baiting CDs/dodges, and quick disengaging. You cannot just macro all into one button and cheese your way around.

Where are they going to read up on a game?

Forums, like this?

The antithesis of places where cool, well-rounded debates take place on the merits of the game which would allow someone looking for insights into it to form an opinion of whether it’s ‘for them’.

Review sites?

Where reviews are often based on a bare few hours play of a pre-release beta .. because God know ‘exclusive early reviews’ are more important that those based on facts and in depth play .. and the score given is sometimes pulled out of the reviewer’s … you know where: and I won’t mention the several notorious cases of game reviewers/site being bought and paid for by the developer concerned.

Moreover, games aren’t like cars.

Firstly, a game is highly subjective, a car is largely fact-based. One man’s ‘intolerable grind’ for example is another’s ‘farming’ which is viewed possibly as enjoyable (I do that at times) or at the very least something which is tolerable given the rewards for doing so; thus reading that the end-game is “one huge grind for a legendary” per se tells the reader nothing about it to let them judge if they’re likely for fall into the first camp or the second in how they view it.

Secondly, game change over time, for many players .. including an on-line friend of mine who played GW for many year and loved GW2 on release .. November 15 marked a fundamental and for them utterly unacceptable change in the game’s philosophy and became “pay to win” (in their eyes).

So, while I agree with the principle you’re propounding, pre-purchase research of an MMO is largely futile, had someone done that on 12th November, the game they got to play was significantly different in some crucial respects than that they had researched: and that wasn’t a one-off event.

Any place that describes GW2, clearly states this game is not based on an infinite gear treadmill.

If you write “GW2 endgame” on google you get this as first result: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-endgame-reimagined/
Official Anet description of the endgame, listing all types of endgames and specifying their cosmetic reward nature.
There is no mention of any system of infinite better gearing or any carrot-on-a-stick mechanic, so you cannot expect it to exist in the game.
Even if a couple things changed from the original design it’s nothing that changes how the game plays and its nature.
It’s still all about doing a variety of activity for fun and cosmetic rewards.
It’s like buying WoW and expecting active dodge/self-healing, even though nothing in the game’s description mentions the existance of such features.

The game became Grindy because there isn’t much to do at endgame unless grind for better gear.

Then, it’s sad to see that I played other MMO’s for years and didn’t get bored. This one in a few months got me bored…

WHAT’S WRONG? That’s a question ArenaNet should go into for give a future for this game.

There are many games people play for years and I get bored in a week.
Doesn’t make the game faulty just not the game for me.
The fact you state your endgame would be grinding for better gear or the game has no endgame is a very clear indicator that GW2 is definitely not the game for you.

I’m not sure why people don’t read about games before buying them and expect things that are not supposed to be in.
It’s like wanting a bike but buying a car, and then complain it’s running on 4 wheels.

In GW2, you are not a hero. Trahearne is. ba dum tsss

The only game I felt an Hero in was Lineage 2, because you could actually get the Hero status by winning Olympiads (which was very hard as you were against everyone of your same class in the server for the title), which would give you Heroic aura, Hero skills/buffs and that was a very Heroic status that you can’t get in GW2 even if you owned all legendary weapons together.

Red Falcon.8257

I didn’t really played theif, but from what you have wrote it just further solidifies my opinion of the lack of depth. I mean you drop a smoke screen to cover your group, that is not depth, that is just one use the ability has, the depth would come in if you could you smoke screen for several different things that would be equally important and you had to make a conscious choice on when you use it, not just ‘’o shi my team is taking damage, better drop smoke screen’‘, same thing with all the other skills you wrote, want to stealth rezz – shadow refugee, reflect projectiles – daggerstorm, romove debuffs – signet of agility, again I don’r really know what most of those abilities do, but from what you wrote it just proves my point, 1 ability has 1 use, 1 situation has one ability that deals best with it every single time.

So if using abilities in the current situation and in a timely manner to save the day isn’t “depth” to you, then explain us what is it.

A Day in the Life: How Do You Play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

I believe “playing wrong” refers to people who use systems that are inefficient in GW2.
For instance farming compulsively the same mobs until DR is not a supported way to obtain gold in GW2, so that would be “playing wrong”.
In general it could also be referred to people who rush/skip everything to get to the infinite gear treadmill part that isn’t present in GW2, or try to “grind” legendaries that are not meant to be grinded for, etc etc, they try to “cheat” some mechanics to get things that are not meant to be gotten that way.
It could also refer to people who expect to be making money by playing the TP instead of playing the game (game can give around 5g/hour).
In WvW I think we could say “playing wrong” is randomly zerging gates with uncoordinated groups instead of gathering proper coordinated teams to use specific tactics and siege.

I think I got them all?

Ascended gear difference from Exotics is negligible in PvP (at least until weapons are released, since damage range has a much more impact on the damage formula) and it can be obtained with Laurels too.
Anet also said we’ll be getting ascended obtainable in WvW too so you’re really not forced to do fractals.

I still believe cimbing up fractal levels does make you better though, so it’s worth doing.

So Warhorn still worth using in PvE?

in Warrior

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

In PvE warhorn is only good in niche situations sadly.
I believe it needs to be changed from PvE to PvP so that it gives boons that are useful in either content.
For instance Charge could give some might or protection in PvE on top of swiftness, and CtA should give a more lenghty Weakness duration in PvE.

WH was nerfed back in BWEs (weakness duration reduced) for PvP reasons, yet was never made into a skill-split for PvP and PvE.
I’m not really sure Anet actually made it to split skills properly for PvE/WvW/PvP…

Arcing Slice
It is subjective as to whether a fury buff, which is highly desirable by most players

Where did you hear “most players” wanting Arcing Slice as it is?
All posts here say that Arcing Slice is totally not worth using and that fury selfbuff from it isn’t the best for Warriors who already get it permanently.
It’s best to speak for youself if you want to forward your opinion, if you read around here you’ll see nobody is using AL.

Tier 3 trait issues.
This is subjective.

It’s pretty objective when only 1% of Warriors go 30 Strength/Arms/Disc.

These are subjective balance issues and I already gave my opinion about fury under Arcing Slice.

People has been asking Axe offhand buffs and complaining about if for months now.
Maybe you should read the forums more.

Rampage
I think this is subjective again.

Then how come everyone deems this as the most useless elite in the game?

If you happily run Rampage elite with 30 Discipline and use Arcing Slice for Fury, please realize you are maybe the 0.1%.
Balance is made around people who know how to play and maximize their characters, not on the odd person who runs Rampage and spams Arcing Slice (which would get you booted from any decent team).

Greatsword versus Axe for PvE DPS

in Warrior

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

It all comes down to “situational”.
In some places like Charr or Dredge fractal you get a ton more DPS in with Axe/Axe due to major presence of 360 AoE fights and control that rupts HB channels.
In other places where you can easily get stationary targets or you need a more mobile DPS, GS is better.

Lol @ healing shouts with zero healing power btw.
Sacrificing so much DPS traits for 1.2k heals from shouts… unless there is another 2 Warriors doing the same it’s pretty close to being carried, 3600/20 = 180hp/s by sacrificing all utilities for it including EP.
To do this you will skip either Slashing power, or Forceful GS, or Heightened, or Attack of Opportunity which all give a ton of DPS.
But to each his own I guess…

Warrior Theory (2 Approaches/Build/debate)

in Warrior

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

Agreed with your thread except for “limited escape ability”.
Once you get into it, the disengaging is almost on par with Thief; if you get good at it you won’t even need Mobile Strikes anymore at some point (Warhorn 4 + mobility skill).
A well played Warrior is nothing short of Batman.

You builds are good, albeit hammer is a bit too easy to counter; if the enemy manages to avoid hammer’s CC, he will simply kill you before you kill him because the damage is a joke.
If I was to use Hammer I would use ES/BB and maybe Crippling Wave but then I would switch away to anything else, it’s kind of sad to be killed by being outDPS’d as a Warrior.

Oh btw for stats I suggest to check this site: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/
Take a look at how little Toughness is effective on your EHP even in absurd amounts… compared to the damage you trade for it that is.
The only setup I would go Toughness with would be Hammer because the damage is so low that Crit Dmg doesn’t add much to the final damage… but for GS for instance, hitting 9k with WA and hitting 4k is quite a difference.

To be honest OP I had the same thoughts back in August when I started playing.
All classes on the surface seem pretty simple and all skills seem spam-when-off-CD.
Once you get deeper into class mechanics and meet harder content it gets much deeper tho.

For instance, Thief might seem a DPS class in PvE, but DPS is probably the least important thing a Thief does in group PvE; dropping a smoke screen to cover your team, shadow refuge to stealthrez, Gas+Bomb for AoE weakness on multi-mob encounters, Daggerstorm in front of a boss to protect team from projectiles, Signet of Agility to removed conditions and recover endurance to your whole team, Headshot to rupt, refuge to heal and give lifesteal to team, and all steal-obtained skills are much more important than just “ololol DPS olol”.

As you can see it gets much deeper once you l2p, it’s not all immediately clear; it’s a lot different to have a Thief in my team that knows all of the above, and a team who’s spamming things off cooldown.
The first Thief would be turning tides, the second would be carried over.
And this is just on the skill department, then you have all the gear/sigil/rune/trait game to play.

Of course we still need more depth than this, for instance a way to “mod” skills like diablo 3 as an user suggested, more skills, more utilities, etc.
But we’re in a much deeper situation than most MMOs (olol I spam rotatiunz n im done lolol).

Weird party and group questing mechanics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

What you say OP simply isn’t true.
Teaming cannot possibly slow down questing, if you tag stuff you need you will get credit and teaming will kill faster.
Having people kill stuff for you and give you credit isn’t only unrealistic but it would be pretty lazy design imo.
Also, if your team leaves you behind it’s not a game’s issue, it’s how questing team in every single MMO work; they rush and rush and rush.
Anet cannot possibly force people to play for fun, a lot of people play in a selfish way because all they want is rushing to lvl 80, as MMOs of the past taught them to completely ignore all of the non-cap content.

Downed state has too much impact

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

First off, just NO to “can’t revive while in combat”.
It just cannot work with the current meta of both PvE and PvP.

In PvE downed is needed due to oneshot galore present in endgame; not even the interupt suggestion would work because in most encounters it’s pretty much impossible to not be hit (i.e. imbued elemental, when you stand still you get burning dmg by terrain).
If oneshots were removed the game would be a lot less action than it is, because damage would be much more forgiving and less reflex-dependant.

In PvP I can agree with the rupting because seeing people I just downed get recovered in 2 sec is frustrating.
What I want to see in PvP is downed state equality.
Some classes get AoE rupt when downed, some others don’t, and this is a really tide-turning factor which should be fixed. Either nobody gets it or everyone get it.

Comprehensive list of Warrior issues.

in Warrior

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

I think I got them all:

Arcing Slice.
Currently not used by anyone because damage is too low and losing 3 bars actually lowers the Warrior’s damage output.
The self-buff Fury is also pretty useless on Warrior who has permafury already.
Suggested Fix: Make it apply 6-8-10 Vulnerability stacks for 4-8-12s instead of Fury, damage upped a bit.

Eviscerate.
The current range of the skill leads to being actually slowed down by using it when chasing a target with swiftness, rather than helping reaching the target.
Suggested Fix: Increase range to 400.

Earthshaker.
Sometimes fails to stun and deal damage even if target is inside the area.
Suggested Fix: ??? No idea why it fails completely to deal both damage and stun.

Rush.
Pathing issues have this skill failing by either going beyond/through the target or hitting in the wrong direction and miss even a standing target.
Suggested Fix: Make sure the skill sticks to its target and only hits when close to it. Make the hit on the end faster to cast to prevent it failing.

Bull’s Charge.
Pathing issues have this skill failing by either going beyond/through the target or hitting in the wrong direction and miss even a standing target.
Suggested Fix: Make sure the skill sticks to its target and the effect be focused on the target.

Bolas.
Avoidable by simply strafing or even moving diagonally.
Suggested Fix: Increase projectile speed by 30%.

Endure Pain.
Tooltip states 5s, but it’s actually 3s. Also a bit too short compared to 90s cd.
Suggested Fix: Make both tooltip and duration 4s, or 3s with reduced CD to 60s.

Brawn.
This stat was nerfed down to 1%/2%/3% to counter high Warrior burst in BWEs.
Now that the problem is resolved, this stat is still nerfed making Discipline less appealing.
Suggested Fix: 2/4/6 should make it a bit more worth it.

Dolyak Signet.
Was nerfed from 10% damage reduction to 90 toughness which equals to less than 4% damage reduction.
Suggested Fix: Make it give 250 toughness (roughly 9.7% damage reduction).

Tier 3 trait issues.
Except for Defense and Tactics, other trees have no good T3 traits which leads to no Warriors going to 30 Strength/Disc/Arms (and those few that do so use a non-tier3 trait in the t3 slot).
Suggested Fix: Add traits to T3 Arms/Strength/Disc that are worth going to 30 points for taking them, or modify the current traits to be worth a T3 slot.

Axe
Axe 4: causes Fury which is a boon Warrior access already permanently.
Suggested Fix: Change it to give 4 Vulnerability stacks for 8s.
Axe 5: albeit being 360 degrees the damage still leaves to be desired when compared with its casting time.
Suggested Fix: Either increase damage, reduce casting times, or give additional effects (i.e. blocking melee attacks, stack vulnerability, etc)

Hammer
Low damage and long cast times make it too easily countered in PvP.
Suggested Fix: Either increase damage or reduce cast time / cooldowns for skills.

Rampage
Currently possibly the worst Elite in the game.
Suggested Fix: Make the moves of transformation at least on par with the normal Warrior skills. Add Protection 10s to the buff during transformation.

I believe it’s all for this class.
Not a long list, but important issues nonetheless.

If you find this game fills none of the aforementioned purposes to you then move to another game.
This game, just like every other, cannot fit every single person’s tastes.

I never understand people who seem to like nothing of GW2 yet they come to this forum everyday hoping Anet basically deletes the entire game and rewrites it basing on that person’s likings… It is a quite absurd idea.
Your 60 bucks aren’t worth more than my 60 bucks, or the 60 bucks of the 3 millions that swarm the game as we speak.

Ultimately, I believe the longevity of MMOs comes from friendships you build in the game – or RL friendships you play the game with.
Even a childs game like WoW can be fun if played with friends.

Walls that block/reflect become pretty fundamental in high-end dungeons and WvW, yet only 3 classes have them, which makes people favor certain classes and we should stay away from “LF healer” type of systems.

Here is what I suggest:

Warrior: Wall of Rage – Create a wall with your rage that reflects projectiles. Lasts 5-10-15s depending on adrenaline.
Necro: Their wall now also block projectiles.
Ele: Flame Wall also block projectiles.
Ranger: Whirling Defense has a larger radius.
Engi: Magnetic Shield has a larger radius and lasts 8s.

This will probably be lost like most suggestions but still worth gambling my luck.

I like this system.
You don’t spam skills because they do “moar domoges”, all skills have a purpose.
For instance Warrior’s Axe/Axe: 1 is DPS, 2 is vuln, 3 is cripple, 4 is fury, 5 is aoe.

This isn’t a cheesy game where you spam a rotation and feel like you’re doing something skillful (hahaha really?), your 1 is damage and other skills are to be used in the correct situation.
Is this boring when DPSing trash to death solo? Yes.
Now tell me why killing a rat with 12345 is less boring than 11111.

I do not want another game based on rotations rather on using skills when needed.
If you want a fancy skill spamming MMO there are bazillions around, go ahead.

It seems pretty shallow to me to complain about lack of “tutorials”.
Why can’t you just discover things yourself instead of being spoonfed and handheld immediately?

I’m not sure the Defiant system in the current form is good design.
I mean all weapons that rely on CC like Warrior’s Mace/Hammer become useless.

Maybe make it so CC is applied but lasts 10% less time for each stack of Defiant.

High level fotm, truth or myth?

I sure hope drop rates are better, else what’s the point of climbing up difficulty levels and getting better team comps?
High difficulty should always come with better rewards.

Hope the difficulty system will be expanded to other dungeons btw, with unique rewards/skins.
After a while even if fractals are 9 places, it gets a bit repetitive to see always the same zones.

That, or new fractals need to be added.
How about a Fractal in the Crystal Desert? I miss that place so much… Hydras :o

  • Hearts replacing quests ruins replayability
  • Personal story being devoid of meaningful choices despite being advertised otherwise
  • Events are buggy and non-functional months after release
  • Event bosses are mindless zergs
  • Lack of the Holy Trinity effectively killed complex boss design
  • sPVP is a complete joke, poorly balanced and completely abandoned
  • WvW is nothing but zergs, capture trading, and door smashing
  • Dungeons are a mess of bugs and erratic requirements, either too easy or full of fake difficulty
  • Loot DR implemented to force gem purchases upon the playerbase
  • Bots left to do their thing, ruining the economy
  • Servers list accounts tied to server, not actual populations to hide poor player retention
  • Legendary weapons not legendary, just a massive grind
  • Trahearne (THIS IS MY STORY LOL)
  • Zhaitan (SPAM 2 TO KILL THE ELDER DRAGON LOL)

Need I say more?

He asked examples of poor design, not baseless dismissal with no reasoning/evidence.

I mean, you said one-man aggroing whole dungeon while one refills his health and others spam the same rotation is “complex boss design”, go figure.
My 9 yo nephew beats all wow dungeons so unless he’s a magician that is childproof boss design – yet he has very hard times playing GW2.
Bots have been banned in dozens of thousands and are hardly seen around anymore.
WvW zerg? By what logic “mass PvP” is supposed to be about small teams?
The only things you got right are poor design of Personal Story/Trahearne.

Yeah this game needs shared maps so badly.
It’s not good that a new player gets in and he is alone…

Critical Damage - Stat Weight

I’m not sure CritDmg is weighted based on character stats.
CritDmg is unrelated to your base stats like Pow/Tou/Vit/Prec, just like Magic Find.

In my view, gw2 is geartrademill

Wrong, ascended items are only obtainable through grind.

Nope.
You can get ascended by just doing laurel dailies or one daily fractal.
Neither of these system require you to “grind” anything.

Unless you’re one of those people who thinks doing an action every 24 hours is a grind, in which case I suggest you think about your daily actions… every 24 hours you repeat some exactly same actions, so your life is a grind too?

Grind is continuous repetition, not doing ONE thing ONCE every 24 hours.

Please fix the issue of gap closing abilities

/signed.

Warrior was knee-jerk nerfed during BWEs.
EP was nerfed down to 3s (yet tooltip still stating 5).
Brawn was made useless.
Evis range/damage overnerfed.
Now add gap closers bugged and we have some issues.

Fix these BWE knee-jerk nerfs please, it’s been 5 months.
No one is scared of HB anymore.
Thank you.

New Race or New Class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neither, I’d rather have more weapons and skills for the current classes instead.
It’s useless to have a lot of “new” stuff when the existing one isn’t deeply developed.

Whining about whining is, well, just whining. Looks like you are a good fit for the forums you complain about.

That “you whine about whining so you’re a whiner” logic always sounded quite immature to me.
It’s actually pretty normal that a major amount of complaining is going to get anyone annoyed, but that doesn’t put the annoyed people at the same level of pointless whiners.

Say you enter a room and everyone is crying, you get annoyed by that but it doesn’t make you a crier, just a normal person who wants a more mature and constructive debate.

If the game is so great why are you bored and trying other games OP?

Just because you like one game it doesn’t mean you must limit yourself to it.
I personally enjoyed Skyrim for instance but I’m not pidgeon-holing myself to it.

We are talking about how the evolved mechanics of GW2 ruined our ability to play static MMOs with outdated, gimmicky mechanics.
If I was to run a WoW dungeon today, with the easymode trinity and rotation-based combat it wouldn’t be a lot before I fall asleep.

Of course some may still like the more accessible and simple-minded gameplay of ’90s MMOs with foolproof automatic dodge/block etc, but even the MMO market now is evolving toward a more stay-awake-and-actually-use-your-real-skills type of system and more and more people just needed this.

Different people look for different things into games, and finally someone decided to create games for those who were tired with autopilot mechanics.
