Need damage-oriented PVE build

I use a boon uptime build, the idea is getting near-perma SoR, very high damage and good survivability.
This is gear: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8|1.1g.h1|0.0.0.0.0.0|1g.71g.1g.71g.1g.71h.1g.71h.1g.bw.1g.bw|3v.0.2v.0.3v.0.1i.67.1i.67.2s.0|k59.k5a.0.a2.k65|e

A normal zerker has 13% damage reduction, I prefer to sit on 28% while barely sacrificing anything.
I trade some Precision for Toughness but due to H.Power, Sigil and Permafury my crit chance is still sitting at 76% so I’m effectively losing little to no DPS.
Runes are 2x Sup Monk 2x Sup Water 2x Maj Sanctuary

Using Axe/Axe with the build actually gives you better survivability because you can use Sigil of Blood and lifesteal food to get tons of self-healing without sacrificing the crit Sigil.
Damage-wise if you spam Evis and recover the lost adrenaline fast (WA or SoFury) you’ll be dealing more DPS than GS.

Warriors should get an elite shout.

Agony is actually rather brilliant

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

Agony is simply a gear check, the classic invisible wall to lock people out of content until they have certain gear.
Actually it’s a stronger form of usual gear checking because while you can still complete dungeons in other MMOs with lower gearcheck than required, you cannot complete say frac 18 with a zero agony resistance team, agony will simply down the entire team.

Do I mind it? No, as long as it’s just a fractal thing.
Could difficilty be made so it’s actual difficulty (+dmg +mobs +cc +mechanics) instead of a gear check? Definitely, look at GW1 HM.

But ultimately I believe it’s needed.
Admit it or not the majority out there wants a gear progression and won’t climb fractal levels just for the hell of it.
Overall they combined increased real difficulty with gear checking so they made most people happy.

I like your idea. I had originally hoped that they would add multiple attacks that could be placed into each slot. Your idea sounds a lot like what Diablo 3 did with skill runes which also would be cool. Diversity like this would add fun without upsetting balance too much.

Yup.

On top of that it wouldn’t require a lot of work since things like adding a minor effect like poison or +5% dmg are worth 5 lines of code.
I’d really rather have this than Keg Brawl and whatnot.

Skill depth through skill "runes".

in Suggestions

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

Since character depth is very stagnant how about implementing a system that allows us to customize skills deeply like D3 runes?
For those new to D3, it’s basically just a number of skill mods, you can pick one for each skill you have slotted.

Example using the skill “Swoop” of Ranger GS:

Swoop: Run and leap at your foe, hitting them and nearby foes.
Poisoned Blade – Also causes 10s of Poison.
Broad Swing – Increased dmg by 10%.
Lunge – Increased range by 100.
Tendon Slice – Also causes cripple for 2s.
Lightning Speed – Evade attacks while channeling.

This way you give a ton of depth to the current skill system while also keeping it easily balanced (if something is off you simply balance the rune itself).

Why would anyone want a necro over others?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

Of course the necro can offer a number of things.
Other classes simply have more powerful/useful versions or just “more” of the same to offer, if not better tools.
A necro can reduce enemy damage but not remotely as good as a Thief can.
A necro can improve team’s offense / deal damage, but not remotely as good as Warrior can.
A necro can protect team but not remotely as good as a Guardian can.
A necro can AoE but not remotely as good as an Ele.
All he can do others can do better, so we’re back to OP’s initial question: Why would anyone want a necro over others?

Simply, the Necro has yet to find a niche role he’s best at and everyone -want- him for.
That’s why I suggested MM buffs, it’s something original and unique of the Necro so if he was really good at that role everyone would actually want one in their teams.
As it stands now, I have no reason to grab a Necro when other classes can do the same and much better, sadly.

After launch, dungeons were much harder than now, and now not only dungeons are easy but even Orr became so (not that it was hard before lol).

You get rooted, knocked down and chained cc’ed before you get out.

L2P issue, Mobile Strikes removes immob and gap openers are unaffected by slowdowns.
You can have all the debuffs in the game but as long as you have MStrikes WA/Rush/Leap will get you out of any situation.

Thiefs come in, you activate EP, thief pops out and goes stealth waits 3s and does burst. Repeat if you aren’t dead yet.

L2P issue, GC Thief has at least 39s CD on steal so the “burst” is down to CnD (which is only one since he wasted 6 init on EP) and Backstab which you can avoid.
As a general rule, a Warrior dying to a direct damage Thief is a shame to the class who should avoid talking until he learnt to play.
I never died to a non-condition Thief in 1400 hours and so other Warriors.

Now it’s not like I expected someone named MilKzZz to be decent at this game, but you could at least know the BASICS before going in the forums to state wrong things.

He’s jelly bro. Thats all.

Nah I actually solo’d it on my War, you can find some pics over here: http://s1221.beta.photobucket.com/user/Fabio_Facchetti/library/
Surprisingly the fight vs shaman/rabbit which I feared the most etc is the easiest and shortest, kite in circle while combustive spam (you must dodge shaman’s knockdown tho).
Tommy is harder because he spams pulls sometimes which can be really annoying and high damaging you need to dodge them, but still easy.
The only hard fight is the final boss because the asura spams those balls faster than your endurance regen (even with +50% regen), but after a few tries I did it.
I used life stealing food / sigil and bleedkite with rifle.
Now should any team fail you in that fractal you can tell them “really? falcon did this alone you nubs!” haha.

I think water fractal might be even easier, especially considering the last boss is the easiest videogame boss I’ve ever seen.

There is a problem when you can gear up in WoW 50x faster than you can get full exotics in GW2.

In GW2 you get a full exotic set by simply completing 70+ maps and selling their rewards.
Each char I bring to 80 and complete maps with ends up with at least 40g total, which is enough for an exotic set.

I never heard of WoW tossing max gear at you as soon as you hit 80.

Why would anyone want a necro over others?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

I’ve said this once and I’ll say this again. The best MM’s in GW1 were Heroes. The Computer’s ability to handle all the enchantments from AotL or Jagged Bones (mutually exclusive) to appropriately using Death Nova (until the last few years with no Minion AI it was down right impossible to cast this on the Minions close to death) along with the change to Masochism (another enchantment). No player could juggle this as effectively as a computer. Then of course you know, there’s the whole endgame PvE that was impossible to bring an MM to because the end bosses would destroy all the minions, and with no corpses available make them useless in a boss fight, left swating at bosses with a staff or scepter. Oh yeah. Real useful.

Nope, best Necro build as far as DPS and general Utility throughout the game was the SS Curses Necro hands down. Spiteful Spirit was virtually unchanged throughout the entire game. The only change being, I believe, that the enemies were given better AI to deal with the damage. Which didn’t even matter because going to Hard Mode (enemies attack faster) actually improved the Elites ability to doll out damage. The SS Necro was pretty much required in all high end farming that (save for a few Dungeons that were relegated to the A/P Shadow Forms).

So can we all stop putting on our rose tinted glasses about how uber the MM was? The change to the skills was to prevent the very thing I mentioned and nobody wants to address it. By removing the Corpse spell cost from the Minion Spells, Anet is trying to make the class actually viable in high-tier PvP (ie not JQ and FA and AB which were largely considered PvE missions with other people since the points were all acquired by killing NPCs) as well as Endgame content boss fights. But by removing the corpse requirement the had to make the number of minions more manageable because if you could just continually spam a minion skill for Minions you’d have an infinitely large army at your advantage (one that doesn’t have health degen might I have).

No, I’m not saying the current system is perfect but it’s definitely a step in the right direction to make Minions more accessible to players in more formats of the game.

Well, that is, like, your opinion, man.

From my experience, in a lot of content MMs were a lot more useful than SSs in GW1, simply because it would prevent a lot of wipes/DP by absorbing damage.
I’m not talking about 2man 55/SS UW teams, but the 5-10 man content.
I’ve been MMing a lot in GW1 and I could get a team to survive anything with my minions, but can’t say the same for SS as it doesn’t really prevent your team from failing, it’s more of a damage setup.

Necro = Low DPS, shallow support

Multiple darkness fields (lifesteal/blindness), poison, weakness, condition control…

Poison/weakness can be done by everyone, condition control same and better, darkness fields are worse than water ones for healing and worse than smoke ones for team protection.

But hey, if you want to be the devil’s advocate and say Necro is on par with other I’m not really stopping you.
I have other, much better classes to fall back on… all I want is have necros on par with others.

Why do most PuGs fail imbued?

I’ve had no problems mostly with PuGs in any place beside Volcano.
When I get Volcano with a PuG I already know what will happen; people will somehow die at Imbued, maybe try once again then leave.

What’s up with this?
The encounter does not really seem to be too hard to me.
Everyone just needs to DPS and move, when adds pop you AoE them in a second, then continue DPS and move.
If you’re focused too much you’ll go down and if you’re really unlucky he will place AoEs in your face and defeat you, but outside this there is no gimmick that should wipe a team so easily.

Please don’t post things like “lol I beat imbued with 3 people while watching animes and standing still” elitist falsehood, just give me some real pointers to make PuGs not fail me on this one every single freakin time.

Dailies are traditional MMO fetch quests.
I always adapted to changes until this one, because it goes straight against the fundament of GW2.
Kill ten rats and other 0/10 fetching should just stay out of GW2.

. . . I feel compelled to point out it was always in GW2, just hidden behind obfuscation with the Renown hearts and Dynamic Events where you’re supposed to gather ground spawns or specific drops to fill a bar. The only difference with DEs is that everyone is contributing, so as long as you just do one you can technically leave it alone and others will finish it.

Nope.
All hearts can be completed by doing many different tasks they don’t force you to repeat the same stuff over and over, while kill 25 aquatic mobs can only be completed by killing 25 aquatic rats.

Why would anyone want a necro over others?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Red Falcon.8257

Red Falcon.8257

It’s called hyperbole. I know that thieves offer a lot to a party, but on paper, they don’t look that great for group support. Likewise, on paper, a necro doesn’t look that great for bringing stuff to a party, but in reality, they do.

They do, but what they bring is severely UP compared to what other classes do.
Thief = Stealthrez (most of OP all), regen, blind spam, perma AoEweakness, high DPS
War = Mega DPS, major DPS buffs
Guard = Walls/bubbles, major support buffs/heals
Ele = High AoE DPS, major support (water megaheals/prot)
Ranger = Water field for megaheals, mid-high DPS, spirits
Engi = Elixir gun, bandages, elixirs
Mes = Reflections, portals, AoE DPS, Time warp
Necro = Low DPS, shallow support

Imo they just need to fix MM.
MM was the way to go in PvE in GW1 but with the cooldown on minions and lack of minion healing system it isn’t viable.

Why would anyone want a necro over others?

in Necromancer

Red Falcon.8257

Why would anyone choose a thief? They offer less group support, no group buffs, you spend more time reviving them than they spend dealing damage, so they cut your groups DPS to the point where they might as well not be there. What’s the point of playing a thief over these other medium armor classes? No one would choose a thief for their dungeon over a ranger or engineer.

See how easy this is? Reason why is because you are flat-out wrong on almost all of your points.

You’re kidding right?
Thief has access to stealthrez, anti-aggro with stealth, a wall that blocks projectiles on low CD, blind fields, blind spams, area weakness/poison… on top of high DPS.
You have either been playing with REALLY bad Thieves or you don’t know anything about Thieves if that’s what you know about them.
That’s one of the most, tide-turning classes in PvE.

Necro on the other hand really needs a good PvE builds.
In most dungeons they’re being carried as they deal low damage and don’t have many tide-turning tools.
You’re better off asking Anet to buff PvE necros because really… Minions are pretty useless (unlike GW1), conditions deal low DPS, the only thing left is power necro which is somewhat useful but still far from the usefulness of other classes.

Question remains, is the achievement bad because it can be “grinded” or is it bad because it’s something that has no variety and has a huge kitten number which will take a stupid amount of time and resources, ie: a grind if you want to actually get it some time this year?

Neither.

Just because something can be used wrong it doesn’t make it “bad” in itself.
It’s like saying cars are bad because they can be used to kill.
Can’t always blame Anet for player’s exploitive usage of features, because realistically you can’t code everything in a way that it can’t be possibily used wrong.
Most times in life you’re given things you can use wrong or right, it’s up to the person to use things responsibly.

Increasing the range by to 400 is pointless because its still not enough. If it was 600 range at the same smoothness as savage leap, that would make it better.

@Earth Shaker
Give it blind immunity on Burst. Also when you use frenzy with Earth Shaker, you don’t even smash the ground, you smash the air causing the stun or damage to not work. Fix it please ANET.

600 range is quite a lot.
Consider that heartseeker is 450 range and it’s a nice leap, 600 would be the same as Bull’s charge basically.

I’m not even sure why ES can be completely blinded btw… it’s an AoE skill which shouldn’t be really affected by blind as it hits the area not the player.

Stacking armor is not necessary to people who can swiftly disengage and avoid damage.
In zerg fights I jump into the enemy zerg (usually on a flank), down 3-5 people in a second then WA>Rush>Leap away as soon as I am focused.
Then I jump in again, blast some more people to the ground and leap away again.
No point for me in sitting there to take damage and deal none when I can do this.
Against Thieves I just pop EP and their burst is gone then I 3-shot them.

Assuming 10 tactics, SoR is down 31% of your time (15s), which means in that time you’re not getting the 5 might from it (-175 power) nor fury (-20% crit chance).
Even with FGJ you’d be 7s off with Fury and -5 might compared to a FGJ boon build.

Sure, we could put on our theorycrafting blinkers and only consider perfect favorable situations where others always provide you with Fury on a gold plate, Might is permanently stacked at 25 and everyone holds hand singing Kumbaya.

But I personally prefer to consider real in-game scenarios which rarely meet the requirements mentioned above, so I’m taking permaSoR over situationally useful Ruby Orbs.

Gold is farmed by CoF path 1 ad nauseum or ori nodes farming(?).

Why can’t I just play the game and be rewarded? I wanna just play WvW, and maybe get 1g (selling junk from bags) after an hour of playing, and not worry about trying to maximize my bags by tagging as many people as possible in zergs. The issue here is with tagging in WvW probably. And TP inflation.

I’m rambling. This isn’t the first time I’m revolted by the game because of the grindiness / economy.

I want to do one simple thing. Get some alternative stats gear to try out a build. I don’t think I want to grind 50g (exotic armor/runes) to get the pieces from the TP to try out a build.

I play normally and make 5-10g a day.
Couple dungs, couple fracts, hour of wvw, and maybe some events.

And if you want to try out builds there is sPvP.
You can’t just demand that you get an exotic set of everything easy just because you want to try builds.
Even in GW1 you needed a lot of skill unlocking (tons of money), sub-class unlocking, elite-capping and whatnot to try new builds.

This is also true for Warriors, and there is absolutely zero reason need to go P/V/T in any content unless you want to gimp yourself.
Actually, having high armor seem to be an aggro magnet.

To prevent damage you must use your defensive CDs (Endure Pain mostly), dodge the big hits and it helps a lot to use food/sigil that steal health on crit.
In this game you must actually pay attention to what’s going on, look at the animation of mobs to see if they’re channeling some big hit, look at AoE circles, predict incoming spike damage and prevent it, etc.

It takes some time to learn this when you’re new but then it gets pretty automatic.
It’s pretty funny tho that people is so used to traditional MMOs where you simply buy all defense gear and you don’t die even if you stand still.
