T/SPvP is not “ruled” by anyone; the forums are no indication of anything. If you’re low ranked (or completely unranked), the system is pretty decent (solo/duo queue could use splitting, but that’s happening eventually). There are lots of level-headed and nice people playing it; I meet quite a few of them every time I decide to play it.
I really play this game for player combat.
I hate to be that guy, but it sounds like you’d enjoy SPvP and TPvP more. WvW is only half people vs. people; the other half is strategic siege-driven warfare.
We may have bosses from a storyline that continue on forever as guild bounty hunts when a story completes.
Oh. My. God. Please make the Dredge Engineer mini-boss from the Molten Facility who shoots all the weapons at us (and who we never kill) be a Bounty Hunt target with all of his crazy weapons! That would be so incredible!
In the meantime, please don’t forget about your old and permanent content. Fractals, for instance, has been left abandoned and worthless for so long it’s painful.
=I challenge you to do L48 Bloomhunger and not just afk behind projectile absorbing walls. I challenge you to do the ettin boss in the Asuran Fractal and actually have fun.
Your problem in these cases is the fact that you’ve done the fights more than 40 times at that point. Anything is going to feel boring when you run them that much.
I have killed GL and the Grawl Fractal boss literally hundreds of times and they are never once boring encounters. I actively pray to get the Grawl fractal when I do L48 because that boss is like the saving grace of the entire dungeon. I think they should strive to have active and engaging bosses that die “fast” if you’re exceptionally good and “slow” if you’re still learning the ropes. Those bosses are perfect.
I think the molten bosses are also exceptional. The Firestorm could do with being harder, but as a whole they are engaging, fun, and have diverse mechanics. Most importantly, the boss changes based on which you kill first (REACTIVE BOSS, OMG!), which keeps the fight fresh at the players’ discretion (Let’s do zerker first this time guys!). I would rather fight the molten bosses a hundred times than ever look at the Svanir shaman again in Fractals. Seriously, that boss is so bad it makes me want to throw Rob’s ranger off a cliff every time I kill it.

I’m so glad I bought thousands in excess back in the day and got everything I could’ve possibly wanted. It’s amazing that I have somehow gone through something like 19k gems since release, though. I bought 20k way back when thinking it’d be enough, but 8 character slots, 7 bank slots, innumerable bag slots, mining pick, and God knows what else later, I’m down to a mere 1k and there’s no way I’m buying more with gold at these prices. I may have to dip into that disposable income at long last.
For the record, low level gear doesn’t require the fine transmutation stones (yellows), you can use the garbage green transmutation crystals that you get for doing basically every zone. You’ll only need 1 Fine Transmutation Stone for your end-game gear (L80), so it wouldn’t really be costly at all.
You’re correct, Paul, except that the cost/reward for this specific item is crazily out of whack. It costs roughly 60-70s to make 1 of these items, whereas the 30 minute equivalent item is about 3.5s per.
I’m pretty sure everyone in my guild will be buying those dance moves
They are pretty incredible. Currently you can get them from the boxes of fun, and I dare say they are the best part about those otherwise silly boxes.
I shouldn’t make sweeping judgements, because I know some guilds are really going strong (I see a lot of RTGC in SoS Bl) and you guys have never thrown in the towel completely, so I’ve been a little out of line.
I used to think you were just a troll trying to mess up the general demeanor of this thread, but now I see that is not true. Good show.
Hey, so you know how things like Incinerator and the Fiery Dragon Sword deal flame damage, which causes enemies to flail and die like they were burst into flames? Unfortunately, Volcanus doesn’t also have this, and it should. If this could be fixed, that’d be great.
Let us use silk and leather together with siege blueprints to upgrade them into superiors and see how much of that silk/leather is burned up in a week.
I can see it now; auto-attacking your heal in a tower overnight to rack up on gold while you’re not actually playing, all the while stealing precious queue slots from other players that would like to play.
You’re right, but you can look at your team before you begin the run and say “This will be slower” or “This will be pretty quick” and adjust accordingly. You can’t look into the misty portal into the Fractal hub and make a judgment call either way. That’s the issue.
Snowden Drifts Karma merchants. Crafted set: Shadow Armor. Recipes are also in Snowden Drifts.
Not the correct armor set appearance; shadow armor doesn’t look like the one in the OP’s picture.
if it takes you an hour to do dredge you’re doing it wrong. Practice, you don’t even need a thief. Shouldn’t take an hour at all. It is my least favorite fractal hands down, but it never takes an hour unless the group doesn’t know what they are doing.
Ignoring the OP’s blatant exaggeration, it is still the longest fractal by a wide margin regardless if you’re the most skilled / efficient group or the least skilled / efficient group. The disparity of length for the individual fractals is really bad for the gameplay at large because you can never accurately predict how much time you’ll have to commit. Asura / Dredge / Cliffside compared to Swamp / Water / Ascalon is massive in terms of the time differential.
One buy, one use, your pick of PvE or PvP. You don’t get both for one.
Yeah, but none of us are online when your guys’ big zergs show up, and when we roll out in NA prime, you guys aren’t worth anything because we kill you repeatedly. It doesn’t work out in our favor.
Pshaw, CD, you guys are fine; just look at the scores! Although in some sense I envy the PvD that SoS gets because they must get way more WXP than we do.
You can do this on any server, you just need to join the guild, represent, and guest to their server for the event. I’m actually doing bounties with my guild tonight if you want an invitation to come along.
If you were compelled to pay anything for any reason, I’d let you choose what and how much yourself. I’m not going to outright charge people for the opportunity to earn commendations; that’s crazy.
Cool story, bro.
You now have to 99% it or have 45 AR.
Nope.
40 ar is fine for a guardian, he can also keep another guardian with 35 ar alive with him.
Yeah, sure, and my Necro can do it with 40 because of DS, but still. I liked Ranger pet res because it was low-stress, and now I actually have to buy those accessories I’ve been holding off on getting.
Did they really make it so you can’t lure the dredge themselves out of the room? Now we’ll actually have to do what laharl above describes, which is absurdly dangerous with pubs. Sucks a lot, but oh well.
2. You get more loot
I’m pretty sure this is anecdotal and word-of-mouth-spread. I am pretty confident that this is not actually a thing.
I liked, more than anything, that Braham actually intelligently used his shield of absorption. Rob Hrouda tells us that this is nothing special for the AI, but I was genuinely impressed when Braham blocked like 12 incoming projectiles at once with his timing. I’ve played FotM 48 with some Guardians who aren’t as useful as him, and that’s saying something.
Of course when they stepped into explorable that was a different experience, since we built our explorable dungeons to directly challenge a coordinated 5 man group. Harder content has a less broad appeal initially due to its requirement of player knowledge, skills, gear, etc etc, it is just fundamentally harder and more work. Some people like that, some people don’t, and in MMOs players tend to follow “The path of least resistance” so encouraging them to play the more difficult content has to be matched with higher rewards.
Most explorable paths are not difficult. They are boring. They are boring because the boss mechanics are not exciting, not challenging, not threatening, and the bosses and enemies in general have too much HP and the players just sit and wail on them repeatedly and forever until they finally die. They require just enough activity that we cannot afk them or go make a sandwich and come back later, but they require so little activity that when we are there, we’re auto attacking, using skills that aren’t needed, and essentially doing nothing.
You say a lot elsewhere that Fractal bosses “took this feedback into account” and “are better for it”, well, I challenge you to do L48 Svanir Shaman and not be bored to tears. I challenge you to do L48 Bloomhunger and not just afk behind projectile absorbing walls. I challenge you to do the ettin boss in the Asuran Fractal and actually have fun. Even Ashym is terrible; you just range him to death while circle strafing and you don’t even have to use half of your skills. He legitimately can’t kill you unless you’re an idiot and try to melee through all of his agony. Don’t even get me started on the jellyfish; he is a total bore with his abysmal low-threat attacks, slow movement, and unexciting mechanics. I don’t know if we’re even playing the same game when you say that you guys think that Fractals bosses are engaging. Outside of the Powersuit/Ice Ele and Grawl boss, I don’t think there’s a single encounter I genuinely enjoy… And the Powersuit boss is only after an absurdly long and otherwise boring dungeon path of the Dredge fractal.
I’m not bitter, I’m sad. I’m sad that I ran the Molten Facility repeatedly and had more fun than I do 90% of the time in L48 fractals (and I ENJOY harder content more than easier content). I’m sad that when people ask me to do CM I say “That dungeon is boring and a waste of time”, and that such a response is typical to practically every dungeon. I’m sad that if I want to make efficient use of my time, I have to roll CoF 1 endlessly because God knows apparently you guys don’t mind that it disincentivizes us players from doing anything else because of how rewarding it is in contrast.
I’m sad that this is what we have, and that months have gone by and we’ve had no word of any other changes. I’m sad that fractals are still the most unrewarding dungeon in the game. I’m sad that I have to explain this at all because I feel like you guys just don’t know!
I’m sad, Rob. I don’t want to be sad.
Guild bounties tonight! If you’d like to join and get your commendations, just send me a tell in-game or here on the forums or in this topic! Looking forward to it.
Maybe it isn’t just for European servers, then; I’ve noticed whenever grouping with someone that has this, they seem to speak another language primarily and English second. Maybe that’s presumptuous of me, but it seemed like the most logical explanation.
This thread makes very unfortunate assumptions that I am compelled to address. The first is that Norn isn’t Human. I know that should be obvious, but Norn are a different species altogether; just like how countless animals in real life give birth and then abandon their young, there is no reason why we should project our own personal ethics and morals onto another race. I would argue that calling Norn a ‘terrible mother’ is very presumptuous and pretty ignorant.
Many Norn children elsewhere in the lore leave as early as they can to start their legends and make their own fate. Eir and Braham clearly aren’t very close, and Braham does seem to slightly resent Eir, but Eir is likely facing a lot of cultural barriers that make her want to give Braham his space to develop his own legend, and countless other things that we can’t begin to comprehend as humans. It’s also important to consider Eir’s own legend and goals; she can’t raise a kid while fighting Claws of Jormag, Destroyer of Worlds, Kralkatorrik, and Zhaitan, and other stuff.
Anyway, please don’t project your own feelings about what motherhood should be onto another culture / species. It is—and I mean this with no offense—belligerent, ignorant, and naive, and hopefully now you can see why.
I played this and had way more fun in there than any other dungeon we have in-game. There were a few things I didn’t like, but on the whole, the boss(es) were interesting and dynamic, and were a lot of fun, and even if they weren’t super hard, difficulty is an easy thing to increase.
- Being forced to fight all the trash in the dungeon sucked and was “zzzzzz”
- The bosses were amazing and dynamic (change based on which boss is killed first), have challenging mechanics, and require you to pay attention, jump around, and so on. The boss(es) shame every other dungeon boss right now with few exceptions (GL)
- The monster mechanics were awesome (loved the protectors) and were at least 500% more interesting than the trash in other dungeons
I want to believe that the dungeon team knows what is a “good encounter” and what isn’t, but this blows my mind. It’s almost crazy that the living story team seems to be able to create dungeon content that is far more enjoyable than the dungeon team has created thus far. If this molten facility had explorable modes and was permanent (and had rewards appropriate of it), I probably wouldn’t play any dungeons made by the dungeon team any more. That bothers me. Please do something about it, Rob.
Not from DR and would never leave my server anyway to go anywhere, but poking in to say that I absolutely adored the video. I miss fighting (most of) you guys, though you definitely have quite an active collection of forum warriors that made the server-fight topics not as enjoyable as they could have been. :P
Regardless, I hope you all do well in T7!
If memory serves, this is the language of the player and is used for European servers.
They won’t make chest/legs able to be hidden because it’s important in places like WvW to be able to identify what an enemy might be based on what they are wearing. Being able to hide gloves, however, is pretty cool for certain character aesthetics.
Signet sucks in PvE, is good in PvP. Obvious answer is to buff it in PvE and leave it alone in PvP.
It does nothing except change the animations some enemies play when they die to that weapon. Fire lights them on fire, electricity jolts them, and so forth.
As far as backpacks go, they’re very easy to acquire. You can either get them for free by spending time (Fractal relics) or get them in no time by spending gold (books / quivers). Options for everyone!
I appreciate the response, but I’m confused as to what the roadblock is… I’m admittedly not a programmer or anything, but it can’t be too hard adding a new merchant to WvW spawns.
The challenge is that they have no idea what they’re doing when it comes to rewards, so they have to learn first.
Price won’t go up. This item cannot be salvaged for the jewel, and honestly, people would rather use the easy-to-acquire ascended version.
For those of us not in-game, what does the timer look like? Can anyone post a screenshot?
You can’t see the mouse pointer in that screenshot but you basically hover over the buff to get the timer info.
Thank you. That’s pretty much exactly what I was hoping for as far as timers go.
This pretty much nullifies the value of the JP to virtually everyone. It’s not worth it for anyone to do it anymore because once you get to the end, your alts can’t get ported up for the chest. This sucks a lot for me considering how fast I go through siege; these chests and portals were pretty much the #1 reason I wasn’t dirt poor, but now that I don’t have that, well…
Devon, let’s just say that you guys need to prioritize improving rewards in WvW.
If it ends up being cheep enough to cover with in-game money i will be pretty happy. I don’t have the time to do much farming, so 6g a month may be too much, (that’s 2x all my money) but if they can make it as cheep as possible, I may not feel obliged to leave the game.
I make 6g in one hour of dedicated playing. You, too, can do this.
My complaint (as should be obvious) is that I shouldn’t have to spend money after buying the game. Just as promised and as implemented in GW1.
You don’t have to. You can play SPvP and TPvP without ever using a custom arena, and you can play in anyone else’s custom arena without paying a dime. If you want to choose your own rules and host your own arena, then it costs you. That’s very reasonable, and definitely not pay-to-play.
Forcing a player to purchase an item, then in addition having to pay to use it is pretty greed-driven.
You get a free month when you buy the arena….
In addition, we know it will be “way cheaper” than 200 gems for a monthly token (Colin confirmed this awhile back). Furthermore, remember that gems can be acquired in-game without paying any RL money. I imagine if you and your pals have your own private custom arena, your pals can send you 1g a month and help pay for the monthly costs.
Facts:
- MMOs cost tons of money to upkeep
- Most MMOs ameliorate those costs with subscription fees
- GW2 doesn’t have a subscription fee
- GW2 needs to make money to keep themselves afloat as a company and keep the servers running
- GW2 uses microtransactions to ameliorate those costs
There is nothing greedy here. Custom arenas are not required for you to enjoy the game, and if they are because you can’t live without them for whatever reason, well just join someone else’s! Playing in them is free, it’s hosting your own that costs gems. Seriously, this is a perfectly legitimate setup ANet has going on, and there’s nothing shady or greed-driven about it.
Consider the alternative: you play another MMO that has a subscription fee but free custom arenas. Great, you and every one of your friends pay $15 a month to play, and you get to play with each other in your arenas for free. Let’s say you have 5 friends. That means in one month, the company has made $75 from you and your friends playing in a custom arena. It sure as hell won’t cost you $75 to open and maintain that same custom arena on GW2 for a month, so in the end you’re paying less. What’s the complaint, again?
I agree; this is pretty crazy. Not to mention that those commendations are so valuable and are time-limited such that anyone buying siege with them is a moron.
For those of us not in-game, what does the timer look like? Can anyone post a screenshot?
You forgot one:
“Search and Rescue” skill:
- Increased cooldown from 85 seconds to 180 seconds in PvP.
- No longer revives defeated allies.
Pet res no longer works in L48 FotM. You now have to 99% it or have 45 AR.
P.S. Thanks dungeon team for not fixing CoF 1 so I can continue to never run any of your other unrewarding dungeons and just spam this boring and mindless path all night straight if I feel like making money! You’re doing a real good job here!
It’s not like you guys are even trying any more…
As much as I’d love to lie and say our / CD’s 8AM NA coverage is good, it’s not, and you know it’s not, so I have no idea what you’re expecting to see.
If you suspect them of botting, report them. We don’t want bots on our server any more than you want to fight them.
I guess I wouldn’t mind if you could trade in and get them from RNG. Just don’t reduce the prestige of the weapons is all I’m worried about. 50 pristine relics is too easy, because a player could just faceroll L10 repeatedly and get 50 pristine relics with no challenge at all. Right now, people run L48’s because the chances are better at higher levels; thus, I’d want whatever “token” is used to also encourage that same progression (otherwise Fractals fail, you infuriate everyone who grinded for the weapons, and you ruin the value of the skins entirely).
Maybe a stack of pristine relics per skin and I might consider that enough. I also wouldn’t be averse to some new kind of currency that you can’t get until L20, and get more of the higher you play, which is then converted into fractal skins in large quantities.
Whatever happens, my primary concern is that the prestige of the weapons remain. If that’s lost, then the entire value of the skins beyond just looking cool is ruined as well, and that would absolutely crush me.
Okay, so you and I are different then. That’s fine, but then again, Fractals and Fractal skins were added as a means to make people like me happy and keep people like me playing, and were not meant for everyone. I think it’d be very selfish of me if I asked ANet to make all dungeon skins RNG-based because then I might actually play dungeons (to loot those rare skins), and similarly it’s very selfish of you to ask for the RNG to go away on Fractal skins. However, each of us have different things we can do; I can get the RNG rewards and work towards those and enjoy it, and you can get the Pact dagger that you know you’re working toward and enjoy that. I think that what we have now is a fair compromise.
Furthermore, random, what you’re experiencing is escalation of commitment, and you shouldn’t feel compelled to grind more if you hate it just because you’ve already tried a bunch of times. Coping with escalation of commitment is important, both IRL and in-game (I feel terrible that you did what you did for a fused weapon skin!).
