… every time:

I prefer the living world concept to expansions. The last thing I want is an annual expansion that I’m going to finish in a few weeks, followed by 11 months of nothing.

The problem I have with that is I finished Dry Top in a day, I have tolerance towards farming but that’s all that was left beyond exploring way points to see if they changed which often times lead to nothing new.

So... where are the Norn?

Deus Ex Machina is a latin term that translates literally into ‘god from the machine’ (presumably this relates to why the game has that name, though I’ve never played it either and wouldn’t know)

It’s pretty accurate and fitting, yes.

but if mordy dies, it’s gotta be by fire

Yup, would give a segway into introducing Primo. Fire needs oxygen to thrive and what would give the most oxygen besides a giant jungle dragon representing the sheer insane capability of overgrowth. Burning, Primo grows larger while Mordre withers away and runs off to hibernate.

Scarlet ultimate goals: not what you think

in Living World

Ronin.7381

It is a common trait where a tragic villain starts off trying to do the right thing. Scarlet had a lot of interest in knowledge prior to engaging Omad’s machine. She was just a curious individual who wanted to know everything she could – scholar worthy if anything. Although she wanted to pursue her own endeavors without the Pale Tree, she didn’t hate it. There she found the horror which by the sounds of it, she started out with the goal to confront it.

At the conclusion of Season 1 and talking about Season 2 they did say, while confirming that Scarlet was dead, that Season 2 would contain a lot of content regarding who she was.

Here is a screenshot of an interesting vine right outside of the dry top entrance. I have no idea if it has always looked like that. But my question is if the vines travel underground they pass the destroyers in Kessex Hills and also I thought the tengu had a destroyer problem so do you think the destroyers would ignore the vines or are the vines avoiding them?

It could be the vines avoiding them. As I stated previously though, I do not think the other Elder Dragons will take Mordy’s awakening lightly. With the spreading of those vines, he’s taking more energy than they are. And recalling how Kralky’s mind was like a raging tornado attempting to devour everything in its greed (my take on the Edge of Destiny mentioning on Kralky’s mind), none of the other dragons are going to take this laying down. Expect the other dragons to start making their move very soon.

Three way elder dragon showdown, like a wvw matchup. Taking bets on who wins.

Well Primordius and his fire-minions would probably beat Mordremoth and his plants fairly easily. The real battle is between the stone and lava minions or Primordius and the crystal minions of Kraky.

I was thinking more Jormag/Kraky/Mordy. Primordius seems to have an unfair advantage against both Modry and Jormag.

I don’t know, I don’t think Primo would stand a chance if it went out to the North and we don’t know how large Jormag is – Primo is considered the smallest of the EDs. That being said at the same time if Jormag went under ground into Primo’s realm, it’d have trouble.

It was stated way back, just before release, when questions were asked that the dragons do not necessarily have an allegiance to one another and more so act in tandem with enough area apart to prevent interaction on a regular basis. This is part of the reason why I want to see Primo in the conclusion feeding off of Mordre’s weaking state, growing bigger in the process, and watching Mordre wither off to go hide as the place starts burning.

Cantha would be a perfect place for it too, introducing the Tengu and encouraging them to take back their original homeland. Once we got there we could hear murmurs of descendants to both the Kurzicks and Luxons (they were both assimilated into the Empire) creating a rebellion.

Tengu are from Tyria.
Weren’t Kurzicks and Luxons slaughtered?

Tengu are originally from Cantha and then seeded out into Tyria through exploration. You end up hearing about it when running through Shing Jae and learning of the Tengu Wars. Yes there are Tengu in Tyria but they are not native. All the same, it is believes the origins of man started in Cantha as well.

Luxons and Kurzicks were not slaughtered, the Empire assimilated both cultures to stop the fighting but in doing so forced the sovereign nations into servitude.

There’s still something odd with that “magic sucking” theory. Why would those vines not go after the Thaumacore Inquiry Center? There is a huge energy source there, but not vines.

Interesting. The “possible end routes” make me wonder if there’s some vines around Thaumanova – since the three places are tied to there.

The WP next to Metrica was flickering last I heard which was days ago. It’s definitely a possibility.

EDIT: Nope, either the map is bugged for me or someone meant a different WP. Just checked and it’s stable.

I ran by Gandarren Fields and didn’t see any WPs flickering. So it should be stressed that anything beyond Timberline Falls is strictly speculation.

The map is based on the tentacles that are already hidden at those way points. Because of the way level of detail rendering works in the GW2 engine, at various distances you can often see decorative elements pop up for a split second, before they are hidden. The players who made this map went to each way point, and used this trick to map the locations of any tentacles that were still hidden, but are most definitely going to spawn in the following days.

No I get that, I just wasn’t able to replicate the experiment. Maybe I’m not getting the proper distance from the WP to see the vine without terrain getting in the way.

This conclusion that Mordy is after a bloodstone is odd to me. Why have none of the other dragons gone after a bloodstone? What makes Mordy so different that he needs a bloodstone. I think the whole bloodstone thing is wishful dreams.

I agree. At the same time I wanted to mention the spots Scarlet had investigated for Ley Line “knots” (I guess we call them) but LA’s Ley-Line Knot still seems pretty active and yet the vines are moving over that and onward. So there’s got to something else, maybe it is the Infinity Coil but I don’t think we’ll know until the next episode and we start seeing vines move South.

Ran around Timberline Falls and I didn’t see any vines or further flickering way points bellow Concordia.

I don’t think there are any female dwarves. They wouldn’t make a playable race gender specific.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dwarf
“It is implied by Ogden Stonehealer that the female dwarves also have beards and are in fact seen in the game”.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dwarf
“For reasons unknown, female dwarves were rarely, if ever, seen”.

Wasn’t there a running joke about that too with something along the lines being, “Female Dwarves, how would you know you were really speaking to one if you were?”

Any entity is as just likely as a common cause for Scarlet and Aerin assuming they’re connected. Because they’re connected via whatever the entity was. It’s a tautology.

But again, I ask. What would make any of those suggested likely?

  • Abaddon He’s gone. Kormir replaced him. Dead as dirt. So we can cross him out completely. Mallyx was destroyed and with 250 years, there’s reason to believe the Realm of Torment no longer exists, being replaced by the Realm of Knowledge to which Kormir rules.
  • Menzies I have a love hate relationship with him. Because to be honest, I wanted him to be the bad guy in Eye of The North with a completely different plot going – opening of fissures. With him, the issue is he envied Balthazaar and wanted his throne. He’s a man… well half blood… in the truest sense, he saw what he wanted and wanted nothing else. So why he would even get involved when Balthazaar’s true throne isn’t among the Earth plane…. I’m not seeing it.
  • Lazarus I loved the Mursaat. I liked how, despite how diabolical they were, they could be seen as doing what they did for the greater good. Especially when we find out what was going on during Nightfall that the Titan invasion was only a (pun incoming) “tip of the iceburg” But I would figure we would encounter him if/when we actually get to go to the Isles of Janthir which is far up North and pass Primo. I figured to some extent the Wizard Tower was where Naveed was hiding – conjuring the forces of elementals to protect himself from any of Lazarus’ supporters.
  • Steam Brain I just don’t see it. Why would it encourage the awakening of an Elder Dragon that had no domain over steel and fire? Now sure, I do think to some extent Scarlet was convicted enough to maybe even challenge Mord after awakening him – you know, breathing life into your enemy to bring him out into the open and slay him. But this also has Saren (Mass Effect) written all over it if that were the case, Saren too was very apprehensive about Sovereign but slowly indoctrination tore away at his will power. That and by Omad’s commentary, the Steam creatures are creations of the Sylvari and not apart of them, he made it seem like something deeply rooted in her very being that was the source.

I mean sure there’s nothing concrete to say but the implications I believe are there. The only assumption I can come up with is maybe Mord’s champion trying to usher Mord into being awake. Where, if the Sylvari are minions, the Champion is offended that the Sylvari go about their daily lives warring with each more often than not rather than pave the way for their ruler. Yet again, I must stress… assuming Mord is the creator of The Trees. There’s no guarantee and I’m not claiming anything as fact until the story lays it out for us..

On a slightly tangential note; the fact that Aerin couldn’t possibly have entered Omad’s device doesn’t seem to bother anyone.

The issue is Omad states whatever Scarlet was speaking with, to whatever extent, was an entity she brought in herself. So until we know exactly what happened to Aerin, which likely only the Master of Peace knows for certain, a different experiment could have occurred stirring the same results.

But again this comes back to the whole Soundless subject. Soundless are not hostile by nature, only susceptible to the same forces. The rest remains to be seen, we very well could be facing more Soundless as it was presumed that Aerin wasn’t working alone.

UNLESS….

The Pale tree DOESN’T know about any ‘link to a dragon’. Given how it was taken from the cave of seeds, and planted with Ventari, for all we know it could be unaware of any such connection.

Just like how the fantasy tales go of a child of an evil race/evil lord gets raised among good people, never knowing just how truly evil his kind normally are.

There’s also the idea that it too is being tormented by an unseen force and simply doesn’t want its children to be subjected to it. Ominous voices inciting destruction and chaos, bad juju.

I’m hoping this is the case. I’d be pretty let down if it turns out the Sylvari are simply Tyria’s immune system trying to combat all dragons. The sheer thought is way too Mary Sue-ish for my tastes at least with Mordremoth it would mean when our attention switches to Primo, Kralk, Jor, or “Bubbs” we would see Sylvari take a more back-row seat to let the territory deal first hand with their problems.

If you haven’t yet, check out the trailer for Origin of Madness, it’s clearly a dark voice talking about her. Whether it’s a dragon or a person.. who knows at this point, it are assumptions untill we find out more.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-21-2014/

I’m still debating with myself whether that voice is legitimate or just meant to make that video seem mysterious. ANet after all is trying to “sell” (in the figurative sense) these Living Story updates to the audience. Adding a foreboding and deep, spooky, voice just adds to the appeal they were going for; get people asking questions about Scarlet in the hopes that the conclusion would give us answers while knowing full well it would only stir more. Hard to say until we hear Mordremoth for ourselves.

EDIT: The voice does sound peculiar in terms of what it’s saying. “You all don’t have to die but if she must, she’ll kill you.” Until we meet Mord though, we’ll see.

We do not know if it was Mordi. People keep moaning this with zero evidance to back it up. It’s best guess work. As I said in an earlier post, the voices could be anything. From her just being nuts. To it acutely being Mordi. We do not know. So just saying yeah it’s because he can read her mind is not an answer it’s a guess.

How likely is it that two completely unrelated Sylvari would turn up with more or less the exact same symptoms just from “being nuts”?

Assuming its the same villain behind Scarlet and Aerin, Mordremoth is hardly the only explanation. Others I have heard proposed as the entity include Menzies the Mad, Lazarus the Dire, a Steam Brain, and even Abaddon.

While Mordremoth isn’t the only explanation, how many of all of those listed are actually likely given the current setting.

Probably Cantha if anything. Whispers know how to get passed Kralk and branded in the Crystal Desert. But we’d likely try, Kralk breaks through and then we end up fighting him.

Actually I was expecting Anet to prepare for Cantha by now. Maybe as the 1st expansion I heard rumors about being in development now.

A interesting lore about Cantha is that the reason why the countries of Tyria lost contact with Cantha was because of Zhaitan’s Navy but with his death the Pact is now slowly destroying what is left of Zhaitan’s Navy slowly clearing a path to travel into Cantha.

Also a interesting thing about Cantha is that it is possible that the Deep Sea Dragon maybe located near Cantha and we will fight Deep Sea Dragon there by going deep into the Jade Sea. Of course there has been speculations that the Outcasts are the Deep Sea Dragon’s minion and Kanaxai is the Deep Sea Dragon’s champion.

Well communication with Cantha was two-fold. One, the Emperor is xenophobic and then two being the rise of Zhaitan so trade ships couldn’t engage. There were excerpts of text detailing that on occasion bodies of Canthan would wash ashore once Zhaitan awoke and started wreaking havoc.

I don’t like the idea that every expansion we get we have to face a dragon. For the most part I want the dragon’s squared off and each continent has its own threat. Cantha would be a perfect place for it too, introducing the Tengu and encouraging them to take back their original homeland. Once we got there we could hear murmurs of descendants to both the Kurzicks and Luxons (they were both assimilated into the Empire) creating a rebellion.

So we get to Cantha, the citizens are weary of outsiders. Someone frames us which gets us in trouble with the Empire, we’re rescued by the rebels and taken out of Kenieng City, and then we form some kind of battalion to usurp the Emperor.

On the otherhand Elona has “Palawa Problems.” But I do like Palawa. He’s the type of villain who plays the long game, has no interest in killing people who willingly join him and why should he, they die and he’d just resurrect them again. Sunspears are being hunted down if not all but wiped out, Korna is a thin veil of what it once was and Vabbi is living the life free of threat because it handed itself over so easily.

I see in that map a line going to Infinity Coil and for that it crosses through Timberline Falls… On the vid we see a fort at Timberline being attacked then yeah.. it’s possible the next part will be in that direction

I am interested in seeing how it all comes together. This has been quite a fascinating episode, such minute details. The only downside is that NPCs don’t take notice, you’d think vines taking over the WP and entangling them like they have would cause a lot of concern. WPs have always been stationary, spinning in place but once entangled they’re off balance.

The screen shot of Concordia even shows it split in half. Perhaps it has to do with draining so much energy that the WP structures can no longer maintain themselves or Mordre is trying to cut off reinforcements. Can’t wait to see the pieces all fall in place.

It doesn’t bother me because of the option to transfer in-game currency for gems. Otherwise, it’s very simple. Log in within those two weeks to unlock the feature and you wont have to pay a dime. Otherwise, since money is shared across characters it just requires gold pieces or a trip over to Best Buy for gems store directly into your account.

EDIT: And it’s even account wide. So you could pop into your level 10 and unlock the episodes, reach level 80 months later, and still have access without paying gems.

Umm i provided interview links do u need to facetime me for me to read it to you as well?

Maybe next time you’ll actually link to proper source material instead of ambiguous information that doesn’t contain any true-answers on the matter. That same article you linked didn’t specify whether it was Zhaitan that was dead in fact it even went on to imply still having to deal with him in some form or another:

Arenanet Geff Grubb

… the idea is that we do have a big dragon carcass somewhere out there.

A “big dragon carcass”….

ArenaNet Ree Soesbee

Or potentially – when you go out there into the repeatable of Arah, when you go into that after thing where you’re… you’re dealing with his spirit.

None of which actually takes place as we all know by now. We don’t fight his spirit and we don’t see him. So until Angel had made that post, it was quite anyone’s guess. Now, you were right and I was wrong – fair enough.

onemantankwall, nobody likes excuses. Stop using them. Either you have information we don’t know about that confirms your claim or you’re misinterpreting ambiguous sources out of information we already know of, to state claims of truth that are unconfirmed by the devs.

When I say I want a source in the form of, “Links please” I’m talking on the same magnitude that the devs did with Scarlet when Season 1 was concluded. None of this “Oh they put in stuff at one point but then removed it and devs haven’t said Zhaitan is dead but they also don’t say he’s alive.”

Anyways UPDATE, just logged into LA and there’s a vine at Fort Mariner and the WP next to the zone in for Bloodtide Coast. I’m not exactly sure when it formed.

It's a 4-month development cycle!

in Living World

Posted by: Ronin.7381

Ronin.7381

Here’s my response: No, I don’t think that, because going by what they have said themselves, it’s four months! They have multiple living world teams which each work on upcoming updates. Whilst episode 1 is being developed, so are episodes 2 through 8 as well. I understand if you never read what ArenaNet said about it, but… come on. I cringe when there’s no following post correcting it.

It’s one team actually. As Angel said, it’s meant to make the Seasons have a more cohesive narrative as opposed to the wish-wash nature of Season 1.

I’m thinking it’s something like Youtube where when you upload a bunch of videos, it puts the later ones in queue that start loading up after the next. In this case we’re on a two-week grace period for each update. Of course they don’t work on the next episode within each of those grace periods, that’s what the whole seasonal break is for, so they can do this stuff ahead of time and queue everything up.

If they don’t add any kind of historian or some npc who explains the whole season 1 thing (i don’t know if there’s already one), they should add some big sticky on the forum or a permanent link on the launcher to that trailer and the wiki page.
I really didn’t know they were managing things like that. The jump from the personal story to season 2 is a big one…

This is part of the reason that I think people are kind of upset with the story in Season 2 Episode 1. Because people don’t like the Marjory – Kes background being practically retold in flimsy fashion. However, I think this is to introduce new players to the characters slowly so we might get more and to those of us who played Season 1 might get some refreshing but also learn new things.

This is Episode 1 after all.

I don’t think mordy is searching for other dragons alive or dead. He obviously passed Zhaitan and Jormag if you look at the map.
I might be utterly wrong but I’m gonna say that he is searching for the Pale Tree. And I think she somehow managed to cloak herself from him so he passed her right away. He never went to Metrica or Caledon because, in my opinion, Pale Tree somehow tricked him to look elsewhere. I still think she is his former champion now good guy just like Glint.

Because if you think about it, the first thing Kralkatorrik did after waking up was going after Glint. It only makes sense that Mordy is going after his champion.

I think there’s an interesting idea there but first and foremost I am leaning to believe that Mord is looking to sever the Pact by monitoring its movements. Laying down a perimeter so to speak by extending its roots way out. Something however is its target in Timberline Falls so I’m very interested in seeing what that may be.

We do have lots of pieces of his body and we constantly get more for doing Arah explorable. The Shards of Zhaitan dungeon tokens are, as the name suggests pieces of Zhaitan. They even have a lore text on them saying that they are pieces of him and that he is forever dead.

I REALLY, REALLY wouldn’t take the dungeon tokens as hard canon.

Because A: Zhaitan’s death was a good distance from Arah, in an Area we can only assume the Pact hasn’t even touched if they haven’t secured Arah ATM.
B: Who would go and carve pieces of Zhaitan out of the corpse?

No one would have had to carve pieces of Zhaitan out of his corpse…we shot at him a lot and the shards of zhaitan could work the same as the blood of kralkatorik where it crystallizes once it leaves his body.

Kralkatorik is still alive….

Sure we didn’t see a body but do u really think the WhOLE personal story would lead up to us NOT killing him?

It would be horribly cliche, surely but only Zhaitan can give us an answer given his “disappearance” in the clouds and seeing as how he is unavailable… we can only go with what we see. What we see is that the Risen have grown weaker and become disorganized. Fair… but one must ask whether this occurred before during the last cycle when he had gone dormant.

The whole blood crystallizing thing – we did sever a large chunk of his tail off which caused him to bleed down into the depths bellow. I just think as a force of nature he’s not dead and simply become unconscious or hid away to go to sleep. After all, we “killed” the Lich in Proficies and Shiro in Factions – both of which appeared in the Realm of Torment. It’s not that impossible for a villain to survive despite the ending of a campaign.

What if the Pale Tree’s roots are tangled around the dead body…

He didn’t have a body last I saw him and was destroyed shortly after the reveal….

Even if the Devs read the thread, and I assume they will, it’s not like they could change the story in the next 4-6 months. Unless you wanted to wait ~6 months for the next chapter or so.

Personally, I am ready for the next release. I had enough of a break since the end of Chapter One.

I’ve learned to be careful with speculation and not to get ones hopes up. It’s okay to speculate and theorize what may happen but one must be careful not to set expectations so high that you end up hating the company for not appeasing you. This is kind of what happened to Guild Wars Eye of The North as I remember I myself thought it was going to be about Menzies pulling a power play that would spill into the earthrealm. He was the Lord of Destruction.

What we got instead was a lousy uneventful boss.

Still surprised he hasn’t covered the whole vines and the way points yet though. The fact that as the days have passed they have grown from flickering to strangled WPs. I personally find it kind of neat from a design perspective – seeing as we weren’t given any hints for what patches were doing what.

Oh god no...

I’m ok with the Sylvari being a big focus, it’s the jungle dragon. Just don’t throw the Sylvari at Jormag, Prim, Kral, etc.

His body would hold the magic he absorbed just like glints body with the aspects hes literally a giant elder dragon loot sack waiting to be devoured or u can also compare it to the magic in jormags tooth unless its consumed its there to be claimed idk why anet let the body just fall without disposing of the body it creates a huge plot hole, ring of fire (where prim is) is right next to orr, mordy map hops with vines, the body is beyond easily accessible, if another dragon was to consume his magic (even if its just outta spite of each other, that dragon would be crazily unstoppable

Even the zephyrites have crazy mad power from glints body (whos only a champion) if ANYONE went after zhaitans power they would reach god status

That’s assuming Zhaitan is dead. We don’t have a body….

i was stuck in the Salma Waypoint tonight. That happened only to me or is “normal”?

Nope, it’s a glitch. Seems either if you’re porting there from outside of Kissex or at least a distance away it puts you into the vine. This is unintended since I could port to the WP right next to it and not glitch into it. Expect a fix sometime soon-ish.

Devs have stated zhaitan is def dead (really old news btw)

They say Tequatl The Sunless increased in power following Zhaitan’s “defeat”. No body, no confirmation.

Shes gonna end up having to tell us about mordy before their show down or she’ll end up dead with no one seem to caring

I personally want to see Primordus basically wither Mordremoth down as he grows because of all the CO that burning so much fauna can cause. And then we’re left looking at him going, “Um yeah… you can be next I guess.” Mord ends up thin as hell and hides away to recuperate until the next cycle.

You’re dodging the the issue I brought up:

Ronin

And when she says she sees the pale tree being strangled by a vine, isn’t it odd that vines are appearing in droves in Tangle Root. You’re telling me they have no correlation.

What information do you have that suggests your claim, otherwise I could just as easily excuse your skepticism for blindness.

The Breach Maker cut off Mordi’s food supply.

Oh, so is he a herbivore or carnivorous? Maybe he’s going to decide to go on a diet. I’m curious, did you ask him?

Surly he would not want his food cut off. So it could be someone who wants to stop Mordi

Well Caera started out determined to meet the threat that haunted her dreams, strangling the Pale Tree with vines. There’s no question that at some point she may have sought to fight the battle herself and save her people from this threat as it was quite clear that it was targeting the Pale Tree. Much how, despite being corrupted, Kellach wanted to protect Kryta above all else. It was her Wyld Hunt just as Traehern saw his purpose in Orr, Scarlet wanted to pursue knowledge to scrounge up anything she could against this veiled threat – which ultimately lead to her insanity.

And yet in the end, in the aftermath of that same Breach Maker that she constructed – Mordremoth awakens.

Scarlet seems to hate the tree, so she could have done it knowing during the fall out Mordi would kill the tree.

Where do you draw this conclusion that she harbors any hatred towards the Pale Tree? She was, prior to going insane, in the pursuit of knowledge in all things. Ignoring the Pale Tree’s plea to cease and desist doesn’t equate to despising the tree, all she wanted was to forge her own path and not at the expense of the Pale Tree. Based on the research of Season 1 she started out hopeful and that’s where the whole discarding her name, Caera, and being known as Scarlet comes into play. After she entered that machine, she became insane and in doing so donned a new persona.

where does it say that god’s are made of magic? and even if they were how do we know it’s the same form that the dragons consume, the god’s arn’t from this world remember.

It’s also important to note that a few if not all but Abaddon are not the original gods either. Grenth Usurped Dhuum for example.

When people found out what the ending was in Guild Wars Eye of The North, some speculated that through the energies Dragon’s gave off (supported by the experiment Asuras did with Primordus) granted them amazing feats. Now I’m not sure on it, I have my doubts – that and I don’t remember if gods: Grenth, Dwayna, Balthazaar, and Lyss had ascended before or after their arrival to Tyria.

It’s implied he may not have been working alone. At the same time though we shouldn’t base a character on their perceived class. Game mechanics don’t necessarily equate to story elements 100% of the time.

Will there be a new playable race?

Since they’ve “forgotten” Norn and Charr in the storyline, other than as bit players, I wouldn’t want ANet to dilute things even more with another race.

Just means that, for the Norn anyways, we’ll just end up visiting the Northern Shiverpeaks when we go off to investigate Jormag. I’m not sure what they could with Kralk, maybe make an excuse for him to head back North but you do have the Blood Legion Homelands.
