Here’s the recipe:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Auric_Greatsword
Yes, I have these ingredients. Unless something is missing, I’m trying to discover it but it wont let me use any Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions. Which is really annoying.
In game people have said that to craft the weapon, it can’t be discovered – like Ascended gear which I think is bs seeing as it’s Exotic. But I’m unsure what else I’m missing for this ridiculously convoluted weapon-set.
After finally obtaining the Ingots required, I stumbled upon a new problem. According to the recipe I have everything:
Oiled Orichalcum blade
Oiled Orichalcum Hilt
Exalted Greatsword Core
But while I have two separate Orichalcum Inscriptions, I can’t “Discover” the recipe. What gives?
I need 300 Dust to craft, along with Auric Silver (which can be traded so bleh), in order to get 10 ingots.
If you go raid the chests under Tarir, you’ll find not only Auric Dust, but also Slivers and even full ingots in there. I think I’ve got a good handful from only five successful Tarir events already. I seem to average at least one from the five huge chests alone.
You can buy Slivers on the TP which is what I did so that wasn’t a problem. As for the ingots, yes they do have a chance to be looted in chests but it’s a crap shoot, luck needs to be on your side and I’m a pessimist when it comes to “luck”.
Some people get all the luck and others get screwed over, that’s the nature of RNG for you.
Never the less, been doing that and it really does barrel down to getting into a good full map that knows what they’re doing. Because if you fail, no-chests.
You must knit additional trench coats. All of them.
Personally, I was until I set my sights on trying to get the Auric Greatsword for the skin collection.
1) Why is it only Mesmers get to choose this weapon during the reward phase at the end of a chapter
2) What is the deal with locking Auric Weapons behind “grind-gates” where as the Chak weapons can be purchased from the get go after acquiring the Mastery Perk.
There’s a Nuoch right under Tarir who sells Chak Weapons in AB and yet Chak presence is very small. But Auric Weapons? Hell no, you have to buy the stupid core recipes (ranging from 250-500 a core recipe) which require Ingots that cannot be traded. I’d be fine with that honestly if we could trade the Piles of Auric Dust but can we? NOPE! They’re bound on acquire to. So I have to grind repeatedly Tarir just to get into the chests downstairs (assuming I’m on a successful map) and hope I get lucky with Ingots. Or, do the same, and just farm the dust which on average I get maybe 7.
I need 300 Dust to craft, along with Auric Silver (which can be traded so bleh), in order to get 10 ingots. What the hell? Why are these so special when the stats are virtually the same of Chak weapons. These aren’t precursors for legendaries either so what gives?!
Consistency, I beg you. Put a vendor in Tarir who will sell the weapons. I’ll gladly farm up to 1000 Lumps to get a weapon over this crap.

For me, it’s Necromancer. Because level 80 Reaper Elite Spec feels so-so far away as a level 31 necro using D/D
Simple and straightforward. The base game made it so that if you were playing solo you could get things done even in Silverwastes until the last meta event and Dry Top. If people helped that would be great and make things easier, but it wasn’t necessary.
The new maps make it necessary and that probably should have been made clear to players. I get people want difficult PvE content, but save that for Raids and not Open World.
Metas aren’t meant to be solo-able. Try to solo Behemoth, should you ever get lucky to find a Queensdale map with nobody on it, if that is ever possible. It doesn’t work. Now with that analogy, you could just as easily ignore the meta and go continue killing mobs – HoT doesn’t break that trend. It just puts a bigger emphasis on metas that open up areas.
lol this is a hilarious thread. I also hate when I buy a multiplayer game and can’t play it by myself.
I play it by myself generally just fine, that’s why I’m getting a chuckle out of this topic. Sure challenges require more than one person but generally, for map completion, people eventually arrive just to help or get the HP as well.
One HP requires you have the final Glider Perk. Which can be circumvented by parting up with a person and using the Teleport to Friend item, should you have one. Otherwise you wait for a mesmer to show – should they come to help.
TD has the same thing, you need poison resistance to get the last PoI and HP =/
*Q: How can i make gold since dungeons got nerfed , why is everything too expensive ?!?!? blah blah blahh i’m lazy again , i don’ want to play …
A: Of course the things are more expensive now there are many new things to craft. Nothing changed it was like before the expansion , every major updates did that. For example when Ascended Crafting came out. For example Silk scraps from 8 copper to 3 silver back then , linen also … They had to do something also with leather it was too cheap , you could sell it at vendor if you had too much of it.Actually that’s not true. They heavily nerfed the gold rewards of dungeons. And heavily means you get like 20 silver for a completed dungeon. I get almost the same amount from a champion bag which requires less effort. Especially on the new maps.
Wait, they nerfed the gold rewards down to 20 silver? Forgive me, I’m aware they had plans to nerf but I have not done dungeons since the update. That’s what it was at launch.
That kind of ticks me off that their solution to funnel people into content they enjoy was to destroy the unique experiences they themselves worked hard to create. I mean if that’s the reward for dungeons, just get rid of Explorable mode then. kitten .
TD is by far the worst meta out of all of them IMHO. Only because the fail-rate is so kitten high.
Yeah but they where hundreds of Sylvari and maybe hundreds of Hyleks so maybe thousands of sentient beings and yet the commander still kicked kitten . Also how did he resist when he went in the eternal alchemy while Scarlet did not?
How did he knew how to use those ruptures?
Scarlet is a Sylvari who dove right into the abyss and you know what they say about the abyss….
That being said, most species (not Sylvari) were beaten down unconscious just to be copied, like Mordremoth went total Body Snatchers. So it’s not like he conquered Zoija and Logan via their mind so much as he just whooped them into submission. You don’t need to be terribly smart to whoop someones kitten .
What bugs me is the forced-emphasis on crafting. I’m someone who hates tradeskills with a passion. So when I found out about collections, I was excited. Now I can be rewarded with items for my collection list that help me progress to my legendary but if Tier 2 and Tier 3 require mats so you can craft – that just annoys me. Figured they’d just rehash the same method to get the pre-reqs =/
DS. Blocked and gated content all over it, and contested WP’s.
Actually, i don’t like any of them for the number of contested WP’s and the convoluted paths to reach many places where one mistake of bit of lag means a long run through endless vets with cripple and knockdowns to get back to the place you were trying to reach.
Use the LFGTool to get into DS maps offering taxis. Guarantee your enjoyment will improve with the improved chances of success that competent players on a map can give.
- Modrem Mouth boss event is awesome, but the mechanics of that map is shocking. As if what i’ve already said wasn’t bad enough, to have all the waypoints contested at all times, makes the navigation even more horrible. But wait, there’s more. Every 2 hours (if you’re lucky to get in there at the reset of the map) you’re unceremoniously killed off and sent right back to the beginning of the map. I’ve lost count how often it took me those 2 hours just to get to the bottom of the map and b4 i could get to that HP, or vista i’ve been trying to get for days, only to be killed off and sent back to the beginning. I’ve never seen anything so ludicrous in my life. I eventually got into a habit of just logging out prior to being killed off and when i return, i’m usually in an empty map, at which point i quit the game in frustration.
DS can get really frustrating. I’m trying to get map complete on my 2nd character, but I’ve hit a snag on getting into maps where the event succeeds. It’s annoying if you spend significant time waiting for/checking LFG/map hopping to get into a populated enough map AND one with enough time on the clock to complete it, and then it fails, and you have to start the process all over again.
I’m a bit confused. Why do you need the event to succeed on DS to get map complete?
If you know how to get the vista, 2 POIs, and the HC on the other side of Dragon’s Domain without actually having done the fight, then I’m all ears.
Also, if you know how to get into the Blighting Towers areas so I can get those POIs and HCs without doing any of the events, again, I’m all ears.
I also have 3 other HCs I can’t (any way that I know of) complete unless the meta is done successfully.
I was asking because I havent’ done it yet. I tend to work through content more slowly than most. I’m in no hurry to go to the last zone until I’ve explored the next to last. Only really did the last zone’s meta today for the first time.
DS is a whole different beast than Orr, to give you an idea. You only have a limited time, think Attack on Lion’s Arch (Season 1 Living World). With that in mind, some of the HP and PoIs only become available once you complete the meta. The cool thing about the meta, once you defeat the three Legendary Commanders in their respected Lanes, the timer of two-hours stops and you’re allowed to fight Mouth of Mordremoth until he destroys all islands or you kill him first. Should you defeat MoM though, you are given 15 minutes before the map resets.
I’m not sure what relevance my playstyle has to do with my thread…
Coming from someone who used to be a clicker myself, I’d just like to say that once I gave hotkeys a try and started to experiment with keybinds that fit my playstyle (FPS player at heart) it did loads of help on my over all participation. Ignore the L2P-comment and focus on new ideas.
With that said, understanding keybindings will of course not fix everything. So your gripes with other categories, those may not change.
Regular masteries can be lvled anywhere in central tyria. And its not hard to level maguuma masteries at all. Dragons stand is pretty great for XP.
For me, it’s a double-edged sword. XP flies… when you’re apart of the zerg and well, DS is nothing but a haven for Zerg-oriented players. I myself love it, the LFGTool being a godsend for this map in particular has made my success rates skyrocket. But then there’s the problem of exploring and some maps just aren’t very cohesive. TD is all over the place and people don’t really do Dynamic Event trains so much anymore since the meta will occur anyways. Haven’t done AB much if at all so out of all of them DS is my go-to right now.
But you are right, once you get with a bunch of people all striving for the same end-map then ya, it is a smooth ride.
I sold it. Not a fan of Sylvari weapons anyways.
Definitely TD.
But don’t get me wrong. I like running around it and exploring, my problem is the kitten meta. One lane fails and it’s game over. I’d like to see them give Canons a huge health pool so a lane that fails has a way to recover should the Gerent start charging towards it. That’s all we needs, some sort of fall-back option. Waiting two hours because Nuoch Lane failed to smash enough shrooms in time is stupid – ruins it for everybody else.
Does acquiring the weapon for your specialization (in this case the Daredevil’s Staff) only work ounce? I have two thieves and one got it upon unlocking while the other did not.
Difficulty – While its great to have a good challenge in the game the current state of Meguuma Jungle maps is spinning out of control. Hero Points require at least 3 or more people usually depending on the situation and professions present. Mobs are so densely packed and hit so hard that its a huge undertaking even making it to the next Waypoint on a map so you can continue exploring without having to start over back across the zone. The fact there are silver and gold category enemies free roaming in packs…I get you want players to group up, but forcing it like this isn’t a good idea in my opinion.
It’s not that it’s difficult, it’s that it’s cheap. Mobs can KB and stun on a much faster recharge than any player skill. That’s not hard, it’s just annoying to deal with because you have to take pot-shots now and again. That and the story’s final fight is really obnoxiously long for what you’re trying to do while fighting.
A world on fire.
GW2 playability has been fundamentally altered with HoT – there is no arguing that fact. To suggest the issue is that casual players “Get Better” is bullkitten. They changed the game, didn’t tell us, and took our money.
No, they told us. You may not agree with it, but many of us watching the updates knew the changes that were coming our way.
That being said, using one’s own skill level to cry about people crying is rather silly.
Ah the Man Behind the Man….. The villain behind Zinn’s Golems.
Mordremoth was merely the villain of the single player story. The villain of the Raids is coming up next and he’s been planning longer than Mordremoth and gathering some of Mordremoth’s Magic just like Glint’s Egg.
Anyone else assuming it’s Menzies? Rytlock’s story would tie into this what with his profession’s ties to the Mists…
It would be kind of lame to face a Demi God so early what with EDs still out there.
My issue with “challenging content” is that mobs that spam stuns isn’t challenging, just annoying.
Considering the dragons’ goal is to consume all the magic in the world, if they hypothetically consume every tiny scrap of magic, all that will be left is their minions, which are also controlled and animated using magic, therefore the dragons simply just cover them in salt and pepper, and eat them before going to sleep for the next few thousand years.
That’d be my guess as well, or they simply rot away rapidly.
havent we all agreed he’s name is Steve AKA bubbles and like konig posted it seems LA is about to be destroyed again
I’m with WP on this in saying, I want to see LA destroy any attempt at attack for a change. Thus showing the Consortium’s true and current powerful grip over the city of LA.
How cool would it be to see the Nightmare Court actually come out to fight against Mordremoth as opposed to the cliche “We’re evil so we’re joining!”
I’ve been waiting since day one of the Wardrobe to finally see the light, medium, and heavy roles (for visuals) finally get lifted. Let me worry about clipping.
As others have pointed out, it’ll depend on how hard they are to acquire with HoT. We don’t know so there isn’t going to be an accurate statement.
They’re great… with some nice gravey.
The question is, with all this information you’re giving Konig, could it be that Rytlock died in the Mists and the Mists just made a copy of him? And as he’s been a direct part of the mists (based of the fact that he died), he now has all the information he needs to battle the Dragons? No Human god intervention required?
I’m not sure he’s dead. Although, in creating a character to try out the new profession, it wouldn’t be implausible to be a character whose backstory is that they died and were reincarnated through the mists. IE Death Knights – although under very different circumstances. That would be kind of neat but I’m not comfortable with throwing in the towel and pronouncing Rytlock dead… yet.
You first made it sound like Razah’s form was determined by the first thing he touched. Now you make it sound like Razah chose his form.
The Mists created him, and chose his form, and humans weren’t the first – nor the first “efficient” – thing that they touched.
1)
I think they’re one in the same honestly.
2)
The Mists did not choose his form him, he did – albeit sub-consciously. No different than breathing. Much like how birds learn to fly or children to walk and talk. Out of all that was going on in the Realm of Torment, the player(s) were the only ones not supposed to be there and that is what caught his attention and set in motion his coming to be.
“When the Mists come into contact with a suitable human template, for example, it can copy that form, creating a sentient entity with humanoid appearance and an almost human mind.”
You are correct in saying that he found the PC curious because they weren’t supposed to be there – because they were new. But he did not model his appearance after those humans. He did not chose his appearance – his appearance is not malleable. Just his profession.
Were we to look deeper into it, I’d argue there is voluntary and involuntary choice. Through his curiosity the Mists that comprised his form took shape to reflect that. He did not come into contact with demons or any sort first as you suggest, or he would have turned into a demon instead. Be it for better or worse, he followed the Player(s) in order to learn. Developing a moral compass if you will.
his appearance is not malleable
Actually, his existence was malleable…
Razah is one such creation. It has sprung into being a fully-formed adult. It has the knowledge and capabilities of a human, but lacks common sense. As a result, it asks odd questions about human emotions, contemplates human motivations, and attempts to duplicate human mannerisms. Razah is a contradiction: more than human in some ways, and less than human in others. It needs an identity, a personality, and a purpose. Hopefully, it will find its purpose by working with a hero. Otherwise, it could degenerate into an abomination as monstrous and inhuman as its demonic brethren.

Having been playing a lot of FF14, I can easily see the Elder Dragons (their bodies) being more of a proxy-vessel. As that is how Primals act in that universe, they can be killed but no matter how many times, they always come back. Similar to how once defeating Abaddon, Kormir took his place, which could easily imply – using Tequatl as an example – that perhaps the Pale Tree could replace Mordremoth on his defeat. Assuming we “kill” him in HoT that is. Then again, we also have an egg running around so it’s either Pale Tree takes up the mantle of Overgrowth or the new offspring will.
I wonder if Glint’s idea was that by nurturing a young dragon, it would grow up and become less of a category-5 maelstrom and more like… well, Glint. But then again I liked the idea behind Elder Dragons never truly dying and that were there to be a Guild Wars 5, we’d see them rise again :P
When are we going to mix and match skins of light, medium, and heavy? Come on, a little clipping here and there wont be so bad. Anet, put on your Nikes!
I suppose it could be a drop somewhere like Scarlet’s weapon, but I find that highly unlikely.
I wish but probably not.
This is the incorrectness. Razah’s appearance was generated by the Mists. The Mists creates a lot of beings – demons, by lore terminology – that mimic other creatures. Razah was a “perfect mimicry,” so to speak, of a human.
Right, so where’s the problem? That’s exactly what happened, his form was based on the first thing he saw as efficient, human. Lets not forget that he had observed the player(s), since we weren’t supposed to “be there” – we were an anomaly that he took interest in. Thus, modeling his physical appearance based on the human form.

You got this from WP didn’t you? :P
That would be unfortunate, figured turning them into Stone to make them immortal was the best way to stop the advance of the Destroyers. In GW2 of course we see destroyers sprouting all over the place but I always saw that being attributed to Primordus finding hidden passages to use and get around the Dwarves – not that they were actually failing but rather Primordus growing ever so much stronger. After all, The Great Destroyer was but a Champion and not Primordus himself.
As for Jalis, there’s a few things. Perhaps its invoking on the Jalis before the transformation or his individual spirit was ejected out into the Mists during the ritual in order to substitute a much more powerful furnace that is The Great Dwarf’s heart. I think this question in particular is over thinking just a tad but then again, WoodenPotatoes didn’t really give much of an answer about it either that was in anyway final on the topic.
@Ronin and Mushroomz: Both if you got things wrong. I’d explain but tis annoying to type on phone.
I don’t understand what you’re getting at here. I simply made a joke over the idea that the Revenants are inspiring a new race, like Razah. My comment was a remark, not one based on a census of information. :P
It was originally intended that Arah: Storymode was supposed to take longer. Hence why there is a body you can find if you go outside of the map. Or was at one point because I think they patched it a while back, all footage is old pre-fixes. They have said they wont be using Zhaitan again as an enemy so we wont see him in GW2 rise or anything.
surely u can spare literally 50 SECONDS once every few weeks to log in and then immediatley log out
Or program your computer to log into the game and then shutdown every two weeks.
Don’t do this. It could get your account suspended.
I don’t agree with the way they released LS2, especially with an expansion on the way, but using macros or third party programs to play the game for you (even something very simple) is clearly against the TOS.
Logging in with a macro to unlock the LS is not playing the game and does not give you an advantage over other players, which is specifically what the TOS says: anything that gives the player an advantage over the game or another player is against TOS. A.net wouldn’t tell people all they need to do is log in during the live release of each episode to unlock the story for free if they thought people would automate it.
While I don’t want to start a debate of something entirely different, there is a point where one would use those same line of commands for more nefarious activities. You’re going half way. The TOS specifically states NO third party programs. Zero. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to be “responsible” with said program, it’s still bad juju.
If Anet is smart, they will give you free acces to the entire S2 of LS once you bought the HoT expansion.
Everyone that had to purchase season 2 would demand a refund. Everyone that already had season 2 would expect a discount.
Business models aren’t about being “fair” so much as they are about being opportunities. Being that I only missed one episode, while for the others I logged in for ten minutes on patch day to unlock the episode for free… I do not expect to get a discount on the expansion HoT.
It just doesn’t make sense. When Season 2 first came out, nobody knew it was leading up to an expansion. You purchase at your own risk, that’s how the gaming market works.
I read that first ZAM link…wow. Some awesome ideas.
That’s the problem with speculation. More times than not, you end up getting ahead of yourself and what you get is much less satisfying than what you imagined. IE: Guild Wars: Eye of The North.
Could it be that a new “race” in the likeness of Razah is actually planned? And Anet is just being coy?
Honestly, I really-really hope that is not the case. Razah was nothing special appearance-wise. He manifested a form based on that which he first received contact from, a human. I’d much rather see Tengu, Hehkets, or some such. Besides, we already got that so far with the Sylvari, I wouldn’t like seeing a new Sylvari 2.0.
“Abaddon is back. WE ARE LEGION FOR WE ARE HIS MINIONS NOW!”
Hm, basically lets bookmark this and we’ll come back to it when Season 3 Episode 1 is a thing!
Lets do keep in mind though that the transaction service is organic. The more people spend in game money for gems, the less value a piece of ingame currency will have. So while about 20 gold may get you 100 gems one day, it could easily drop to 50 over a long period of sustained transfer services. At least, that’s how I interpreted.
If Anet is smart, they will give you free acces to the entire S2 of LS once you bought the HoT expansion.
Otherwise players get the expansion and will have to cough up 1600 gems? for the introduction it :/
That would indeed be a positive for the community.
Blind folds, to me, are symbolic. It was said to see the Gods would blind the observer because it was so much power that the eye of humans could not interpret them. There must be some special connection because I do not think it’s a coincidence in how similar a Revanent and a Ritualist are. But I think the blindness is to symbolize having seen the universe in all its glory and thus aligning one’s own spirit rather than sight – or some other metaphorical cool-nonsense.
Ritualists themselves relied on their spirits to “show them the way” so I do not think this is a coincidence. Makes me wonder if we’ll see the Paragon and Dervish one day in new unique forms that all barrow from the lore.
Honestly, I’m thinking that these seeds are Mordremoth’s “form” of dragon eggs. That they have this unique capability to grow trees if planted into the dirt and nurtured as one would with a seed of any kind. Perhaps that’s how the Shadow of The Dragon came to be, that it was a seed left un-buried and, when called, broke out of its shell and began to terrorize.
