[Spoiler] Lazarus' identity a poor plot twist

Why all the hints on the Fire Island Chain of the Mursaat feeling double crossed when you put Balthazaar in Lazarus’ place? I wanted to see Lazarus become a thing but be that kind of anti-villain who is doing horrible things just to save and protect his people that would inevitably usher in the Mursaat as a race again who butts heads but doesn’t necessarily go to war with the other races.

Finally, I think the Destroyers being friendly to people in mursaat armor can be explained in one of two ways:
1. It’s merely a game mechanic “bug” that swaps the player’s team so that all the enemies are friendly but the players are aggressive.
2. The “Unseen” power of the mursaat lies in their armor, and wearing it makes you invisible to those destroyers.

Or it’s because you have no way to defend yourself because the disguise disables your hotbars.

Why is there a destroyer crab in the room?

As we see in Tarir, they can burrow.

Yes but…. why is it there?

Is it there to tease astute player characters with a new mystery, or is it just sloppiness on the part of the developers? In this instance, I’m going to guess the former.

Or they’re just all over the Fire Islands. I think this is just grasping at straws personally, especially considering how illogical it is to make a player get jumped by something and locking their skillbars so they can’t fight back. You know, unless you’re supposed to “die”.

Mursaat——->Exalted———-> Glint’s Egg

The Exalted were humans who were taught how to preserve themselves in living armour by the Forgotten. No Mursaat connection there, actually, despite the superficial similarities.

Yeah the only correlation the Mursaat have with the Exalted is that the Exalted are constructs made by the Forgotten (Mursaat have the Jade Armors) and it is clear that it was some kind of joint research project by both in trying to build up forces against Zhaitan.

So is it dwarf or...

We have no confirmation on the Seers being extinct at all.

Forgotton are gone from Tyria apparently, the ones that remain are within the six god’s realms.

I’m pretty sure they were a dying race even in GW1’s days, and we only ever met one Seer in all that time. Even if they aren’t extinct, they face the same problem as the Forgotten: unseen from these lands for centuries.

Well, the Mursaat in GW1 were also hunting them down. As the Tablets suggest, they harbored a whole lot of vengeance towards the Seers, among the others (Dwarves and Jotun) for refusing to help aid against the Elder Dragons.

Upon further collection of the Mursaat Tablets, it does seem that they changed drastically once they returned to Tyria. They changed in that, they were so angry at the other races for either refusing to help (Seers, Dwarves, and Jotun) to even the Forgotten who withdrew. When they came back to find a world sapped of magic, it would seem they chose tyrannical rule because they didn’t want the past to repeat itself.

I am thinking that this is implying that Lazarus, in clearly being aware of the chosen’s progress (in GW1), is being honest up to this point. Granted, that’s just my opinion which, again, is bias since I do love the Mursaat and want more of a mutual respect between the Commander and the new Mursaat.

It does make me hope that future Fire Island map(s) give more tablets that continue the story all the way through Guild Wars: Prophecies and the moment Optimus Caliph was about to be slain. Maybe there was a Mursaat who managed to flee as the Titans broke free and in that moment immediately regretted all they had done. Who knows, I’d still like to find something from Caliph’s point of view as he details the events that lead to the destruction of their campaign on the Fire Islands.

It’s most likely have to do with Belinda, remember Belinda spirit is infused within Majory sword…they might be hinting at a Ritualist elite spec? :o just being hopeful, hue.

That could work, as it is implied they want to explore more of these new Elite Specializations. They can’t just keep adding new classes like they did with the Revanent.

Does this mean the Guardian could get a scythe (not new class but new weapon) and be a Dervish?!

Still waiting for a combat Monk, go all Sun Wukong with a staff on the Elementalist (I know Eles can use staffs but I want one that’s centered on melee fighting – with your elemental attunements determining the effect of each weapon-skill).

It’s not. This is not the main volcano by the looks of it. The Door of Komali is in Abaddon’s Mouth which looks to be an area to the North West which we cannot access yet.

Why else would a destroyer not be hostile to a character disguised as a mursaat unless Lazarus (the last remaining mursaat) struck up a deal with the dragon.

The disguise prevents you from attacking in general, why would Arenanet throw you into a situation where you’d be slaughtered without the ability to defend yourself? Your entire hotbar is locked.

Another poster mentioned the split between the Forgotten and Mursaat and the other elder races when it came to fighting the dragons. I thought that was interesting. I wonder what caused the fallout.

Based on one of the lore pages you find in Ember Bay, it’s because the other races refused to get involved when they fought the Elder Dragons. The Mursaat in question said something along the lines how infuriating it was to be denied aid when they needed it and so they fled to preserve themselves. When they came back, the Jotun were rendered into barbaric brutes and yet the Jotun were proclaimed a very powerful magic wielding race at one point, implying that in taking in magic the Elder Dragons sap it away from the races as well.

Lazarus's deception (spoilers)

Ronin.7381

One last thing i’d like to point out. How the races would react if they ever discover that The Commander is teaming up with The White Mantle lead by a Mursaat? (the humans and charr specifically come to mind.) just some food for thought.

Well to be fair, Episode 1 concludes with his re-introduction in which he shields us before wiping out our opposition. And with how… poor the story telling is, I wouldn’t be surprised if other races, taking that into account, go, “Oh well, he’s not so bad then.”

Does make me wonder, because the Exalted in question had very little knowledge on the Mursaat. Perhaps word of mouth, I forget the wording but it talks to us briefly on the subject in asking who Lazarus is. Never mind that he just kind of appears and floats around.

The lore however, in Ember Bay, does seem to show some nobility (with a vengeance) regarding the Mursaat. They were angry at the other races who refused to help, the Dwarves and Jotun, in stopping the Elder Dragons.

So I’m hoping they don’t try to pull another Guild Wars: Prophecies. I’d rather have it end on a mutual respect, “Don’t start nothing – there wont be nothing.”

Her interest in the Eternal Alchemy lead her to meeting Mordremoth (breaking the barrier the Pale Tree had erected that separated the Sylvari from his influence) which then scared the crap out of her to the point where she became indoctrinated. This was, for the most part, concluded in Season 2.

In a way she was fighting against Mordremoth but also helping him all the same. With her quest to stop him, she had to wake him up which then backfired as the player slays her (Season 1 finale) before she could go any further. She would have ended up just like Foalain though, or so I belief. The whole tragic-villain cliche.

Ronin.7381

I wished she had died in Trahearne’s stead. This sums up pretty much my feelings towards her and her actions.

Personally, I liked her character in HoT and where she is now. Not to go into real life comparisons of abusive relationships regarding Caithe and Faolain, I did like how she was running only because she didn’t know who to trust. The campaign did a terrible job at telling a genocidal war, there were snippets here and there around Sylvari throughout the Meguumas but it never carried as much weight as the teaser at the end of Season 2 implied.

In that little cutscene we see Canach fighting off a group of humans, obviously considering him like a Mordrem and seeking to destroy him.

But actually playing the game, as I said, it was a little bland. It didn’t have much gravity to it so when suspending disbelief, I thought Caithe’s development was great when considering the atmosphere teases made it out to be.

I have no doubts that lazarus have not suddenly turned Saint over nearly dying and coming back, only question is what he is upto and when he will try to backstab us.

He seemed pretty intent at one point to exact revenge when his initial plan for rebirth had failed him. That’s for sure, so I’m kind of interested in getting more dialog with him in order to figure that all out.

To be honest, I get tired of these betrayals in any story. They’re largely predictable and they’re always bound to happen at the most opportune time. Really hoping Lazarus wont be like that and when the Elder Dragons are gone he just ups and goes, “Ight Commander, you leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. So, if he will lead White Mantle again, what will happen? The White Mantle will turn into good way as Lazarus or Lazarus is lying…

Well to be fair, there’s no more Abaddon so the threat of Titans is no longer relevant to any Mursaat. Abaddon pulled a Self Fullfilling Prophecy on the Mursaat which begs the question, would they have sacrificed any one on the Bloodstones to reinforce the Door of Komalie if their existence wasn’t threatened by what was on the other side.

I hope he’s honest or at least practical, “I don’t like you but we both don’t like the Elder Dragons.”

Then again, the bias in me has loved the Mursaat since Prophecies so I was happy to see him come to our aid…. again.

The whole realization that the Dragons adapt (taking in some of the skillsets of the last) makes me wonder. This probably means Kralk will be the last which is a bummer because I’d have liked to see Primo be the one (he’s the one with the most lore centeralized with him – Alpha and Omega per se’) to last out of all of them. Guess it’ll all depend on how we end up encountering Jormag.

Perhaps Episode 3 will feature Braham breaking the tooth, signaling the end of the Ice Dragon.

Lets also not forget that that earlier Taimi let the name of the Deep Sea Dragon slip (I assume anyways) with the letter “S”.

So it seems at the end of this all, that little baby dragon Aurene is going to turn into an Elder Dragon comprised of all the Elder Dragons. Turning into Guild Wars 2’s very own Veeshan (EverQuest nod there). But it also means whatever Dragon is left standing before that, will be composed of all the other facets. This also hints at looking back at Subject Alpha in Crucible of Eternity to some capacity.

So a part of me, the part that loved the Mursaat in Guild Wars 1, really hopes my character is wrong.

Have to admit, as cliche as Lazarus’ intro was, it made my mouth drop and left me going, “Wh-what just happened?”

Though I feel ultimately it is a ruse but we’ll see. Hoping it’s not and all this Marjory espionage will be for nothing.

What I found most interesting, even though it’s simple, are the lore books scattered around the Mursaat’s stronghold in Ember Bay. One piece actually spoke of how the Mursaat (along with the Forgotten) went to the Jotun and Dwarves for help against the initial fight against the Elder Dragons only to be refused and felt outraged. Another spoke of wanting to keep their magic, hence leaving – because when they returned, they found the Jotun barbaric and practically “power”-powerless.

The dragon was cute and I did feel there was some attachment to the commander given the vision and the fact the commander just knew her name.

Also consider the fact that this is only Episode 2. So there’s a bit more room for the player character to warm up to the little tike. I’m personally indifferent, yeah it was cute and I was honestly expecting it to latch onto Caithe given the fact that she even for a while betrayed us and putting her life on the line to see it safe. Shotty writing sure but that’s the simple version. The tease at the end, “Yes, go get Taimi.” Was a good touch.

I too just didn’t like the fact that our character told Lazarus to bugger off. Which is funny considering how powerful he is. What actually made me smile was how reassured the player character is at the start, “You better help or you’ll be living a short second life.” You know, given the fact he effortlessly wiped out a bunch of White Mantle in Episode 1’s conclusion with ease as well as stunning us in the process.

Kralkatorrik is nowhere near Elona, technically. Last we saw him was northern Crystal Desert. A whole desert and desolation away from Elona.

I fail to see why that matters.. Not that hard to imagine Kralk, in stirring up would decide to reign in our parade to Elona given the close proximity to whatever path we may so choose unless it be by Sea. Especially since, if you can brave the Desolation you can reach Elona in terms of region. Obviously game mechanics and invisible walls prevent this.

The only way to Ascend would be to find a repeatable trial – such as the Weh no Su trials (which, yes, Closer to the Stars = Ascension).

In other words, the only known way to Ascend in GW2’s time is via the guide and gaze of the Celestials, since the gods (who were the ones who’s attention Ascended folks in Prophecies) are gone.

Even if somehow the player character were to find some Canthans able to administer the trials to become Weh no Su, that still wouldn’t stop any Mursaat or their constructs from Spectral Agony’ing everyone to death.

I feel like Anet will just do what they always do and go with ‘Priory has knowledge of it’ and ‘Asuran tech will fix it.’

Or just throw a Seer at us.

In the Battle For Lion’s Arch in GW1, didn’t Zinn and Blimm make something that allowed non-ascended people (the NPC’s) to see and attack the Mursaat? I thought that was the reason why we weren’t the only ones able to do anything against them in that battle. Or did it just do some weird voodoo against Spectral Agony and leave us with weirdly efficient NPC allies?

Less I’m mistaken, Saul was not ascended himself. With that taken into consideration, I feel joining the “They can be unseen or interact but not interact while unseen” camp is the best place to be in right now.

Taimi is already investigating the chak’s organs and what did we used to get infused in GW1? Guts. Who did we give them to? Seers. Checkmate.

Still calling a threeway fight with Kralkatorrik, Jormag, and Primordus.

They missed that opportunity with Mordremoth since fire > plant. The only feud that would have made the best sense seeing as both were in the Meguumas. A three-way fight would trivialize the whole kitten ED threat but then again, we killed Zhaitan and Mordremoth so the the damage is already done. So the whole thing is dumb regardless.

So I would say magic was also released upon Zhaitan’s death, just less because the Pact starved him before. The Tequatl update pretty much confirms this anyway.

That and at the time of Zhaitan’s death, we only had one Elder Dragon’s death under our belt. Mord makes two now – a whole lot of excess magic everywhere and we know Bloodstones were created for the sole purpose of storing magic to starve the EDs. If pre-Season 3 events were any indication, upon Mord’s death the magic was flowing back into the world and spreading and now with the introduction to Season 3, we have Taimi saying the Bloodstones are growing incredibly active. I think this is because the pool of magic that Zhaitan started with his death simply got bigger following Mord’s short life expectancy.

The Six Gods left the world of Tyria because of the damage they do when they directly involve themselves. A civil war between them turned an entire sea into a desert, and a verdant coastline into a poisonous wasteland.

They also want humanity to stand on their own, and the best means to do that is non-interference.

It would be nice to see plots related to them again – particularly Menzies and Dhuum need to be handled – but I wouldn’t expect them to just up and return to Tyria. Seeking them out on the other hand…

I would love to see them build on Menzies and Dhuum in the absence on of the Six.

For me, I definitely want to see more on Dhuum. Out of the new, Abaddon was the oldest of the six and I think Dhuum was also a part of that original pantheon. But recently I’ve been wondering what Abaddon knew of the Elder Dragons and without him around and no sign of Komir to ask her instead, Dhuum would be the next best individual to ask as I’d almost think that the original Pantheon were present alongside the Elder Dragons if not confronting them from time to time. They could have very well been just beasts to the likes of Abaddon, Dhuum, etc that roamed rampant while the original pantheon simply observed.

How did 99% of the Mursaat Die?

in Lore

Posted by: Ronin.7381

Ronin.7381

We were not the final blow to the mursaat, but we killed the majority of them and destroyed their chain of command. The titans played clean up.

I stopped playing new GW1 content after finishing War of Kryta. I’m loosely aware of the Lazarus confrontation later, but was there more Titans Vs Mursaat stuff after the LA Battle?

I should really go back and do the remaining content, but it feels almost too long a gap now.

Haven’t scrolled all the way through the thread so if this was already answered I apologize,

It was explained I believe during the Titan arc (Prophecies Bonus) that the Titans were hunting down the Mursaat. Abaddon had it out for them for some strange reason that Season 3 just happened to get me wondering. I mean, why predict one’s downfall knowing full well said one would do whatever it took to prevent that from happening if you knew full well said one was going to be defeated.

But they survived many of the Titans as I believe War in Kryta implied. Which is why they were able to gather all their hierarchy in an attempt to establish a flank against Kryta.

My guess is Lazarus is trying to go back to his “home” or the Isles of Janthir and their “golden city” because what is more virtuous to someone if they aren’t going to keep their end of the bargain in swearing vengeance – unless of course by establishing a connection with home of course brings all other Mursaat into the fold and then they all lay siege.

Simply put, the Mursaat were not 99% wiped out. It was only their foot hold on Kryta that was threatened. Think of it like in a time of war fighting off an invading force, that doesn’t mean their homeland goes with them unless you are to slaughter their forces and press onward. GW1 Heroes didn’t get that opportunity.

it breaks the lore because now you have Tengu fighting against Zhaitan and Mordremoth when they largely chose to stay out of the matter. it makes much more sense to have Largos or Kodan as new playable races

… you mean as much sense as having revenants playing through the launch content? ANet already proved that argument doesn’t hold weight with them.

Yeah, I don’t see a problem. For all we know, there could be rogue Tengu that chose to explore the world at their own volition (becoming the player character). I don’t see the problem here and if it ever does become a issue, should it be an expansion pack, force the player to be level 80 when making a new Tengu character and their story picks up in that. At the same time however, I don’t see it being that big of an issue to warrant so much micromanagement.

Maybe I just have lower standards than you but I thought it was great. Lazarus’ return and Primordus being active. I almost cried tears… manly tears that is.

Lazarus showing up was definitely a highlight and his response was near perfect for a Mursaat. I loved the Mursaat in GW1 and was bummed that they were barely referenced at all up until the Arah EXP mode.

As for Primordus, well HoT already disappointed me with that. There I was hoping that Primordus would swoop in before we could kill Mordremoth and steal the show (because us winning all the time against these creatures that are supposed to be unstoppable is dumb) by frying the jungle dragon only to grow in size (upon gathering Mord’s magic) and then swoop off only to be the final dragon sometime in the future. Sadly HoT happened very much differently and while hinted, Primordus seemed just another name on the ED list. Yes the Asura had it out for Primordus but I always chalked that up to the fact that they lost their Central Transfer Chamber which is what the heroes in GW1 used to reach Primo’s Lieutenant: The Great Destroyer.

At the same time though, Primo’s introduction also opens up a lot of new opportunities. Seeing the dwarves again ( “Stonekin” ) and this new dynamic with Lazarus whom I assume wants to go home – to the Isles of Janthir.

^ Inculpatus has the answer. Only 4 (that we know of so far) different inscription types can be used to discover the Auric weapons:

- Berserker
- Assassin
- Carrion
- Rampager

I initially tried using the Minstrel inscription I got from an Act 1 achievement and no dice. I then crafted a Rampager inscription (since Powerful Venom Sacs are dirt cheap and all) and it worked.

Thank you so much. Will see if this works. Frustrated as all hell now that I spent about 10 gold >.<

That’s what I’m wondering because it lets me put the Oiled Blade, Oiled Hilt, and Exalted Core in the discovery pane saying there are ten combinations available.
