I have finally reached Diamond, I had another loss yesterday due to a disconnection again. Apart from that I would of not lost any games upon reaching Diamond.
People can have their own opinions about my post, but I thought I would share my achievement with you all.
I will continue to post another picture if I reach Legendary, though Diamond on-wards will be much more difficult, so don’t expect any miracles.

Thieves have always defined what builds can be brought in both PvP and WvW. The only problem with your post is that you’ve only identified bunkers, when really all builds have been defined by thieves :)

Fun? In PvP? Somehow Anet will take the fun out of a mutation system. Like say, favouring one team more than the other. 5 warriors being favoured to win over 5 mesmers would be the most one sided match in history.
Still, I like this idea. Though I hope you want this to be optional to players. They should still be able to play regular games if they want to practice regularly for the league season.
If they dont want to give us “ranked” during the off season, it’d just be two buttons. Unranked, and Mutation (changed weekly).

OR if you wanted to make things technical, when you queue for Unranked you can have a box ticked like you do conquest/stronghold. Unranked? Regular/Mutation
So a little while ago someone was asking about what to run for an Ultimate Killshot/Gunflame war (emphasis mine), and I understood what they were talking about. However at the time I offered what I felt was the strongest all around rifle/GS setup for PvP as it allowed you to offer DPS and counters to a team fight, while also being robust to 1v1 on a side node.
Anyway I wanted to deal with ele’s better, and looked to upping my pure murderous ability. Thus I went back to vanilla Ultimate Killshot War which worked a treat. Only I had zero stabos, and so was done if I made a mistake and got locked down by a team. That drove me to make an Ultimate Gunflame Berserker varient (giving stabos while in berserk for some extra options). Long story short, I ended up refining the builds to this for anyone interested. It’s high risk, high reward. The liabilities are obvious running builds without Defense, but so long as your team has the staple sustain classes on board, your pure DPS will not be shunned, even if you go down a couple times in a match.
If you’re not familiar with the play style, disengage when focused, engage when not. Do your DPS at range, and skirt in to GS cleave on downs.

FYI: Adrenaline is far easier to build on Vanilla, leading to steaming killshots. Berserker takes longer to generate your three bars, and you need berserk on standby to proc that stabos
Back in the days of Left 4 Dead 2 there was a game mode called “Mutations”. Each week you could play a match with some specific feature or element to it.
It’d be cool to have something similar in PvP, particularly in the off season when standard unranked is AWFUL. If it’s going to be awful pvp, it might aswell have some fun element to it.
So an example might be “Zerker ammy only” or “Warriors vs Thieves” (either 5 wars vs 5 thieves or a mixed wars/thieves), “Only Mesmer” or “No Elite specs”. Plenty of different examples could be created, not necessarily concerned about balance, but something different and pre-set just to mix things up for a bit of fun.
Make fun happen.

If used from scratch on a downed, it interrupts their downed skills (puts them on CD). If used as a combo pre downed stated and the first two hits down the target, the third hit instantly stomps.

Go down less? You must fight some terrible players if you’re not going down at all…A good team can focus you, and if you’re team isn’t good at peeling for you, you’ll go down eventually. This isn’t totally a L2P issue. This skill has always been OP, and it’s part of the powercreep issue. It has a 900 range AND requires at least two interrupts to stop. Another idea is to reduce the hp on it and make it easier to destroy.
I’m not asking for this skill alone to be nerfed. It’s only one skill that’s part of a greater issue of HoT skills being too powerful. Impact Strike just needs a higher CD. (60 seconds. It’s an elite for God’s sake. 40 second or less CD is too good for something that stomps that quickly and CCs TWICE, even if the skill itself is easy to interrupt.) Continuum Split is clunky and annoying to use, yet is also extremely powerful with elite skills. I could go on…
Honestly I think its bugged, I cced it 2 times with me and my pet but the stomp kept on going so.. Maybe it was glitch or idk..
It’s totally bugged. Been bugged since day one. A knockback will stop it from stomping because it removes the gyro from the proximity of your downed state. But a straight up interrupt while it remains on top of you won’t stop the stomp from proceeding.
It’s a major bug.

I did take him along, yeah. I tried my hand at it anyway. It was the single worst string of teams I’ve had ALL season, which included unfortunate cases of DC’s and AFK’s to boot.

What really gets me about the gyro is that an interrupt wont interrupt the gyro stomp, despite landing it, proccing the floater etc. Stomp just keeeeeeeps going.
Mesmers are perfectly fine and truly need nothing at this juncture in the game. Let’s see what future patches bring.

In PvE, take a sigil of speed on your main killin weapon. You’ll easily have 2min uptime of swiftness. If it ever runs out, just insta warrior kill a nearby NPC and start running again.

Have you ever even played a fighter game like super smash or street fighter? Being competitive is like 20 percent reactions and 80 percent prediction. .
Yup. A good thief will predict your predicted dodge, and wait, baiting it out. So that leave you to predict his prediction, to which he’ll predict your prediction, and that prediction will need to be predicted.
It’s that simple!
You know you’re a true pro when you predict the 1200 range insta teleport steal coming from behind LoS while stealthed. Just got to play thief, you’ll see how easy it is! :D

Agreed. Learn to play thief. They swing matches for their team when they’re good.
No this is an issue. Classes that don’t require stealth have a capping advantage. This limits build diversity in spvp.
(I would suggest that if the idea of stealth contesting is too much then blocks and evades should be changed to stop contesting points as well so thief cant tank a point by just evade spamming this way and warriors cannot simply block and defy pain to hold the point and delay the fight.)
It is clear that stealth capping would be broken as players can simply cap a point without being seen or having risk.
It is also clear that stealth needs help because it is at a disadvantage as are distortions and other skills that don’t allow de-capping.
The middle ground is what I feel they should have done. Allow stealth invulnerability and other skills to contest the point they cannot use stealth to capture the point but they can use it to hold a point. There is good counter play to stealth this way as players with AoE can nuke a point the minute they notice it is being contested as obviously the stealthed player is on the point. This will decrease surprise with stealth popping up in your face.
Stealth should not be able to cap a point but it should be able to contest a point

Stealth is only at a “disadvantage” where point contesting is concerned. Stealth is, mechanically, an advantage in every other way.
Some classes and some builds are forced out of higher end PvP because bunker outclasses them.
These leads to build inequality and forces you to play bunker meta instead of having more choices.
Bunker needs to be tapered down a bit so that other builds are more viable.
Some classes/builds have way too much defense.
Some specs and classes are pushed out of the game because some burst specs vastly outperform them, they have absurd amount of damage, sustain through blocks+evades for days.
Being able to completely negate dmg is called sustain also, the devs know this luckily but most players here happily think otherwise.
The idea of “glass cannon” is very skewed …something that can engage/disengage at will, chain stealth/block/evades..is not glass cannon.
Wearing a certain amulet doesn’t make you a glass cannon, the base sustain some professions enjoy atm is insane, that’s why they can afford to use a zerker amulet
Ironically |that skewed thing is what sinked gw2, and what Anet keeps forcing, and why alot of players joke about the game.
That skewed idea makes players being a bit carried w/o knowing it, works like a placebo, and makes players keep playing, GW2 is designed to carry players on metas/gimmicks since they are far easy to play than gw1 gimmicks since GW1 required better timmings and more team workforce, ATM gw2 it isnt a true players skill game, just need l2p what is to much in that skewed ANET mentality, note gw2 pvp is pve only designed classes with some sorta “controled stats” via trinkets. they might change a bit the skills but how class was designed initially is also carried to pvp, ANET should had done pvp classes to work on pve, to avoid future problems and game would be much better than this joke.
It is a way/strategy to keep players playing, they dont care about the rest.Just because gw1 combat was slower doesn’t mEan it took more skill. I would argue the opposite…. sure in low level pvp you can certainly spam for the win but try that in higher levels and you get crushed… GW2 being faster doesn’t mean there isn’t timing and skill… to me it seems more skill based because you have to think faster and react faster.
Arguably the “thinking faster” and “acting faster” is more a result of avoiding so many easily (and quickly) spammed mega death skills. That’s why the builds/classes we see are those that can facilitate rotating through a series of protective/defensive/regenerative skills while dishing out the pain (if so possible), and also why passive defensive procs are desired (to shore up the holes).
If that means its more skillful, so be it. At best there’s a great deal of prediction going on, with counter offensives. Just gotta hit them harder/faster than they hit you.
One must be a thief to be biaised in such a way.

Scrapper will be the king of stealth capturing using Stealth Gyro
Classes can block, however you can counter blocks with unblockables, or just wait out the block (long cd’s, unlike stealth application for thieves).
Invulns on the other hand result in decap (mes distortion, engie elixer, ele immunity etc). Endure pain isnt a true invuln, only vs direct damage. Condi’s and effects can still be applied, and condi damage done.
Stealth used to contest a point back in the day. The problem was a lot of skills require targeting, and you can’t target someone in stealth. You also can’t see to land your AoE, and AoE often has a CD attached to it. In the early days of WvW in particular, you had cases of a single perma stealthing thief holding up entire 40-man zergs who were trying to capture a camp. Thief would just run around in stealth avoiding any/all attempts to aoe/cleave.

The problem with berserker is spam able burst. Vanilla warrior required skill to master and was huge reward when mastered. But berserker you can go on point and have a spam fest and get top damage in a ranked match the first time you touch warrior. The bar refill should be slowed dramatically and the damage should be needed because if the spam. A berserker now is pretty much like a tanks theif w no stealth and better damage and way more survive. It is absurd. And don’t get me wrong I love warrior and I always have since vanilla but I play the vanilla version cuz it seems to be more fun to fight with and not so shallow to play. The bar needs to be slowed and lengthened as well as a fm get nerf. But most of all gw2 needs a condo nerf. Every patch has a condi build that wipes the floor with everyone and it happens to be berserker this time. Pls fix anet
Condi War wipe the floor? Power War/berserker eats condi berserker alive. Boonstripping the war’s resistance leaves him susceptible to condi bombs (power chrono, support chrono, condi chrono with null field). Sustained power damage will wear through the condi war’s defenses, same as fighting war has always been. Just got to bait out the blocks and endure pains, then churn through what armor/hp they have left after that. Team focus with the support (ele) down does the trick.
Then more than that besides, but w/e, go learn yourself.

I made it to Legendary primarily with DH. And DH is pure trash.
Meta builds exist for a reason – they’re the optimal build setup coupled with certain classes but not solely reliant on them.
There’s optimal and viable. Most choose optimal because they want to win.
This thread isnt discussing DH, and as history as shown classes are rarely comparable when it comes to their unique issues.
Also, the reasons around your progress are spurious at best and would require analysis to be of relevance. I understand you can play “meta” and you can play “not considered meta but works”, this has no practical bearing on the awful state of chrono, however XD
So then, why exactly is it, that if I play engineer, and cast a super elixir on the elixir gun, then use a Rocket charge on hammer, I get 8 seconds of light aura? But Mesmer is locked into 4 seconds of chaos armor?

Sometimes I queue up and get matched with absolute morons, regardless of the class they’re playing. That’s an instant loss.
Other times I get people who know how to play, or can actually listen to direction. Those games are generally wins.

Give banners a 20s CD (20s duration)
Keep them all blast finishers.
Make them all deal damage on summon (small radius, moderate damage)
Give them each a field (so you can create synergy taking two, but you can only blast the first off the second).
There, plenty more interesting, not a lot needed to change to make it happen.

A good condi mesmer is nightmarish to any thief. Power mesmer is at a disadvantage.

I wonder, when it comes to PvP do devs just wait for suggestions or do they come up with their own little ideas that no one asked fort hat improve the mode. Would like to see more of that instead of the never ending cycle of breaking and nerfing classes.
There was a phase when new ammys and runes where being added, not too sure why something like this didnt get in. I’m also curious to see how sigil of mischief would play in PvP.
I only asked because in the past they said, if there’s anything they should consider, ask.
If you really need a reason why this one didn’t get in, I’ll give you the easy answer: They missed it.
It has been bugging me for too long after i get stronghold mode in matchmaking often lately i think i need to post this now.
can you please rework how the mist champion communing begin? because this mode is one sided if one of the team were busy defending lord, while team defending their lord enemy team control most of the map and then 2 mist champion communing spawn and of course enemy can get those pretty easily. my suggestion is that hold the communing to not spawn while either lords were getting stormed
I’m not sure that’s a balance issue at all.
The issue is why can’t 5 of you + NPC’s repel the enemy team at lord? It’s more than likely because you’ve got Godmode ele’s ultra sustaining the enemy team/themselves + Any/all npc’s they’ve had rush your lord regardless of how much DPS you brought to remove them.
You want to balance Stronghold? First balance the classes allowed to play in it :)
