because some power specs last more than the 3 seconds that the average power rev lasts vs the condi cancer classes out there.
I’d argue that all power specs get destroyed by condi builds, not just revenant. That claim doesn’t hold any worth.
you can argue if you like but everyone knows that the biggest weakness of Power Rev is condi and its way worse than any other spec. Power Rev meta build has the least condi clears out of any power spec class.
DH has wings of resolve, Smite Condition (utility as well as on heal effect). Can trait for Remove condition on block also.
Scrapper has remove conditions on elixir and heal use. Elixir gun has cleanse conditions. Can remove conditions by combo of light field.
Thief can clear conditions on evade/dodge. Can clear in stealth.
Sorry but Power Rev is bottom of the list when it comes to condi cleansing.
Mesmer power specs have zero cleanse, and never have XD
Just do what I do

Fay is right. He’s not pessimistic either, rather pragmatic.
Anyway, Tym, WvW can be played in many ways. Roaming, anyone can do. It’s basicaly dueling and has next to no impact on the competitiveness of WvW. Small man, can have some value but it’s minor, Mesmer functions in small groups. Large scale, arguably the only part that matters, and the default when people talk about “WvW”, Mesmer is trash. Always has been, always will. Chrono on the other hand has a few things to offer.
Makes me want to spend more time working with my mesmer and less face tanking with my warrior. Mesmer, like thief, can be the strongest pvp prof in the game by those willing to study. Thanks for the video. I spent like an hour watching this, pausing and rewinding, re watching, trying to figure out what was going on.
Just sink 4000 hours into mesmer solely over the next few years and you should be good.
Oh, and if you want productive: You could have started a thread asking “What SHOULD continuum shift look like?”
I am truly at a loss. I never imagined a hypothetical consideration would garner this. Furthermore, if I wanted to use the subjunctive mood (potentiality, probability or oughtness) instead of a hypothetical (which is even further removed from an indicative, in this case an either assumption for the sake of argument or hypothetical) I would have put it in those terms. Simply put, productivity could have been achieved by simply stating something in line with the hypothetical posited, nothing more, nothing less.
It really is irrelevant at this point. I did not mean to disparage anyone, on the other hand, I do not like being disparaged either. I do not go around telling people that something they post is “pointless” (it is not pointless to the poster no matter how hypothetical it may be), not my place because it was meaningful to the author. If I want to participate and comment to a topic, I should respect the author by engaging his topic in a cogent manner or I should not engage at all. I do not believe that respect is solitary endeavor.
If it were me, I’d of just ignored (left to stand) Pyro’s offering and moved on with the thread :p
why do you think everyone deserves to have the wings?
tbh, the fact that people can get the “legendary” wings reward without ever sniffing legendary division is already pretty counter intuitive.
To be fair, he doesnt think everyone deserves to have the wings. Only those people who put in the time/effort to get the achievements, and of those achievements he’s taking exception with the formalities of one.
Oh, and if you want productive: You could have started a thread asking “What SHOULD continuum shift look like?”
I agree, it’s impossible to know what Anet will do. Anyone who’s followed these themes over the years knows just how fickle, and problematic the internal workings of Anet are, particularly with balance, and particularly with Mesmer.
There’s no telling what will happen, so it seems pointless to postulate. Maybe it’s fun to dream up possibilities for some people, and you’re welcome to it. Same as how people like Pyro are allowed to share their thoughts in response saying they don’t think it’s productive to dream up possibilities, considering.
Anyway, I’ll vouch for Pyro. Knowing him like I do, he’s actually being a stand up participant in this thread. You should be honored.
I also found it kinda ironic how the OP has been accusing Pyro of ad hominem, and has spent the entire time pointing at Pyro personally in all his arguments XD

Wait a few mins so the premade can get into a new game. Queue. Get a new team.
Some slick moves in there.
Hi Ross. Yes, I have acknowledged in the past that you are a skilled Mesmer player and will do so again now for the record: “Ross you are a skilled Mesmer player.”
I’d contend that you are an outlier as opposed to a majority player, however. How’s B&S treating you?
Skill, good, average, mediocre, bad. It’s really difficult to make sense of these terms and their definitions from any one persons perspective.
It’s easier to look at the class and ask, what should it be. Instead of trying to create a class to suite all players at any level, have the class there to fulfill the needs of various levels of skill. That’s how the game used to be. Mesmer was a difficult class that required a certain level of skill and commitment to play effectively (though has certainly been hamstrung by bugs, poor balance choices, and faulty design over the years), while Warrior was always recognized as an any-mans beginner class. One thing these balance discussions seem to have forgotten is that aspect of skill floors, ceilings, etc. The whole ship is on fire, while also sinking XD
Anyway, B&S? Pshhh, I have a life man.
Hey Ithilwen, I made you a picture.
After quitting (more or less) GW2 I came to muck around in S2 to investigate what I’d gleamed was happening off the forums. After a two month break, played a little over the last 9 days. Decided to just run Mesmer. No staff (looser weapon XD), scepter/sword, sword/shield :D
Anyway, there’s room for balance tweaks on Chrono (and major redesigns to all the stuff that just no longer works). But when you guys try to make your points, you overstate your case with so much hyperbole it gets washed away by the hubris.
@Ross Bidle Honestly I am a mesmer main and I find the design of this class so awesome to play. All I am saying with my suggestions is that it feels dumb to double up on elite without having to pay much attention on the numbers of illusions that are up ;
Obviously there are some people who do know Mesmer on this forum XD
Anyway, it’s worth making the distinction that a double moa burst setup with no illusions (and as an extension, the wrong weapon set, and skills on CD) is far inferior to a double moa burst setup with a full line of illusions (for a full duration continuum split) where multiple shatter can be made with adjoining skills in tandem for maximum damage/effect.
There is a difference between just firing off Moa twice like some newb, and properly setting up illusions and using skills for maximum damage.
Or maybe thief ends up stuck inside a wall or being unable to move till he wont use another mobility skill? But its okay, kid, i will leave it at this point, no reason to argue with someone who thinks reveal is op.
I got stuck in the walls plenty of times and couldn’t use port skills either. I had to relog actually.
You guys want to talk stuck in terrain bugs. Let’s not forget Rev’s special power in that regard XD
Since the games release I’ve always loved watching armature and non-mesmers attempt to balance or fix Mesmer. Like a florist trying to fix a high performance car by whacking at it with a hammer.
Fortunately the owners know this method will only result in a write off.
1:06 before we see the mesmer.

gameplay in the wild world of unranked… on skyhammer no less XD, but ok, whatever
As for the particulars, it’s really hard to give any serious comments. The entire match consists of both teams running around like headless chickens off point, mashing their heads togeather until somebody goes down, then piling more downed bodies on top of that. You kite the outside of the madness for a while, even getting on the skyhammer for a bit, then rinse repeat.
For your next vid: Play ranked. Play conquest point capture. Take and defend points. Attempt sound rotations. Then post your vid and there’ll be a good framework with which to offer feedback to how you did.
I can say that whenever focused you got ripped apart. Gotta look into that. You should also look into the basics of setting up a burst/attack. Your current method seems to be to spam staff aa + 2 & 3, and fire off your shatters whenever.
Haha yeah was not very confident on joining ranked and mess everyones fight. But yeah,im lack of knowledge on getting out of the focused heat but I got a comment on youtube that suggested me to use portal,im gonna try that next. About the staff rotation is it wrong? I found it the best choise I have atm because for every illusion I shattwr I gain 1 more trait. Maybe you can share me your thoughts on that? And yess gonna play ranked for next video!:D
Staff is the “meta” weapon but the reason for this probably isn’t apparent. Staff is a defensive weapon by nature but shines because of its utility. Staff 2 phase retreat offers mobility (for those who know where to use it) as well as a strong kiting tool. It’s an incredible weapon but serves itself to certain situations and play styles.
You have a ton of clone/phant production in your build. It was just a shame to see your scepter go to such waste, or a sword in place of that (use the imob to hold targets down for shatters to land). If you have iDefender on block/evade, a single scepter 2 will spawn both a clone and that phant. Two shield blocks will give you two shield phants. If traited, shattering these phants will let them spawn again, so you can easily get off repeated full rounds of shatters. There’s no need to wait for staff 2 to do all the work.
Anyway, that’s all for now.
I am super happy to see people so excited about the mist champions. I can’t promise that any of the suggestion will make it into the game, but I have written down all of the suggestions.
Including John Snow?

Mes: F# skills are now utility skills
How to remove Mesmer from the game in a single stroke.
Blur removed from sword 2, lands twice as many hits for twice as many retal procs.
Staff no longer deals any conditions, ever. Phase retreat teleports you to exactly the same spot as you were standing when activated.
Alacrity buffed by 1%
What’s awesome is that every dev who stops by this thread will pause for a moment and think

Not surprised to see you made mes/chrono kittene XD
Alright let’s say that you need to include “Legend” in the title. What titles would you suggest?
- I got to Legendary and all I got was this stinking title.
- I had a two hour queue for my final match, but at least I got this Legendary Title!
- I farmed newbs with my premade and have “Legendary” to prove it.
- I set this Legendary title right before I logged off and waited for the next season.

Warrior is the one class that can actually out stun break/stability a lockdown Mesmer.
Warrior is also a class that can out cc a Mesmers stun breaks.
The clones, and in particular, stealth setups are what can make things difficult for a warrior. Mesmer stealth and their ability to kite make it difficult to avoid their assaults and for you to land yours.
The good news is you’ve got two good weapons that help you deal with Mes. GS gives you much needed mobility, and rifle- ranged pressure. Here’s three easy tips to get you on your way.
1) Kite. You have superior landspeed to mesmer and can outpace them, so keep moving away from them, particularly if they enter stealth. Avoid being locked down, and choose when you want to engage.
2) Ranged Pressure. Working in step with your mobility use your rifle to land big hits from range. Focus damaging phantasms when spawned, and use LoS to break their summons and manipulate their clones. Watch for reflects but don’t worry to much as most dont run any (unless they set to counter you in a duel).
3) Don’t engage the best duelist class in a 1v1. Use your setup to your advantage and +1 on the Mesmer. You’ll find you’re unbelievably effective at ruining a Mesmers day GS/Rifle the moment you disengage, wait for him to get tied up with someone else, and come back to pressure him. At best he might escape but chances are good you’ll force a peel and knock him into down with a sneaky burst.
~4000 hours on Mesmer
~400 hours on power rifle setup warrior XD
We still haven’t finished nerfing the last elite spec and you’re submitting new ones? XD
Playing Berserker […] For the most part, I could just ignore you.
Aside from the 2-3 months we got between HoT release and ArenaNet’s decapitation of chrono, this has pretty much been the attitude toward mesmers in competitive play for about 2 years—particularly toward PU.
Rofl, so true.
The roll back still bugs out a ton though. I’m reminded of the old terrain glitch on Blink for Mesmer. You’d blink, the screen would flicker to the new location, but you’d be teleported back to your starting location.
They probably stole the code off another class with a rollback mechanic and failed to remove the imob remove.
flaming fury can not hit any moving target..
Both hits can be landed under a stun though, and would be idealy.
Flaming Flury pierces right? Though it can also be reflected? The fact it can be used at range is a big + despite the target moving.
It’s Axes berserk skill that’s disappointing XD
Oh god, Gaile’s gonna bring Mesmer to the attention of the devs?
Hold on to your hats boys, nerfs incoming XD
@ Mesmer
Wouldn’t it be good if we had those class forum specialists who could compile and summarize class issues for Gaile and the Devs to easily peruse XD
- There are many, many specific issues that could be raised with Mesmer (the general summary made was good), but it’d take an entire forum to cover it. In fact we already have, that way —-→ Mesmer Forum
eggplants bear a message for you to man the kitten up and stop queueing as a shameless 5 man premade to stomp solo q players
I started typing a response to this, being that it is one of the most irrelevant, out of place arguments I’ve seen in this forum, but then I backspaced and said there’s no point arguing with idiots.
Like 5 man farming soloQ in Gw2 PvP?
I’m sorry, I just had too XD
but ya I know rampage is OP, but I prefer a 4 sec stun on a 20 sec CD that fills my adrin over a 180 sec cd. I know how clutch rampage can be though. Somthing u can only get on zerker spec. If I wasn’t running zerker spec ya I would run rampage.
My favorite is the hundreds down state, hammer throw into Vengence, immediate headbutt into berserk, hundred blades, down, and stomp.
Got soooo many people with this, even two in one once XD
Try playing WvW for the first two years of GW2, and play some more from then until now.
Your rewards will look liked the heavens opened and gods bounty poured out by comparison.
Unless its mindless, effortless pve, Anet has no kitten clue.
My suspicion is that the best role Mesmer can bring to the coming meta (if anything at all) will be a home point defender. Keeping in mind that whatever this build looks like will need to
- run portal
- be able to ward off a thief
- offer something when rotating to mid (be it condis, utility, etc) before porting back to defend home.
Whatever this build is, it’ll only function in a greater team comp.
A Paladin bunker mesmer offers all this. The question is: is it worth taking in your team over a druid? But in soloq, definitely, it would work.
Druid doesn’t have portal.
The amount of blocks/reflects annoys me too. But I don’t blame the blocks, I blame kittenty Mesmer XD
Therefore I swap to my Berserker and run double might sig. It makes me feel good.

So basically you’re saying mesmer will be there for its portal?
Yes.
Suspect high damage and more deaths. So technicaly a single mesmer and maybe one or two team mates could portal back from mid, explode a thief/decapper, and still take the same portal back to mid.
I also suspect a variety in classes in coming team comps, and the best teams might create at least two compositions each (with same classes different builds, or different classes/builds), so that they can “duke” on setup/strategies to outplay their opponents. Expect more class swapping pre match.
Some mesmer builds will be flat out silly in certain matchups, while others might work in one match but not another. There will, however, likely be a ‘best’ “meta” setup, i.e. that build that cover all, or as many bases as it can. I think the portal running “home point defender” is likely the role this build will play.
You thought Bunker Meta was the worst gameplay of all time? Nope, people just forgot what it was like pre season 1 when the only place to queue was unranked.
Unranked is hands down the single most awful experience in gaming history. For all time.
And yes, every match is determined immediately, and almost always a landslide one way or the other.

Is there a reason why I would ever play this verses a 2 button 20 poison stack necro?
Necros get focused
Mesmers drop focus?
Not a forced evade in order to immobilize.
The intent of the design is to force you to evade.
The intent of the design is to evade, with a bonus immobilize
That was easy XD
Someone pointed this thread out to me… As an aficionado of the condition play style, I’ve personally concluded that Rabid isn’t the best amulet to run. You either go big with Vipers/Sinister or go the safer route with Mercenary.
The fact is that unless you’re going down the former route, it will be hard to make a difference in team fights unless they are longer battles. If you aren’t good in team fights then you should at least be able to defend home point. However, that’s an issue with constant stealthing…
This build is better suited for a far point assaulter. And to reiterate, an amulet change would help in that regard. Hmmm.
I share all of mails thoughts.
Different ammy (more offensive)
Looses value in team fights
PU for far point assaulter (Mes will be best for home point defender in coming meta, if anything at all)
We should never have to perform an action in order to use a skill, like jumping to evade the evade does.
It’s funny that you say this because for three years, Mesmers would have to run around WvW with their inventory open so they could swap in and out of focus every 24 seconds for 10-12 seconds of swiftness. Free evade on rifle? Boo hoo.
That said, ele staff 4 is it? while attuned to fire is a rollback. Always has been unless im mistaken.
Honestly, its just a l2p issue. It’s actually nice that you can jump to avoid it as it give you options.
um not yet, war is bit more playable than before, but currently reaper, scrapper, rev, druid still too OP than war.
Warr is always great in PvE though
well let me edit my opinion in terms of PvP.
Warrior is just trash. I strongly recommend playing either rev or reaper.
But that opinion is completely irrelevant to the thread, which is asking about PvE.
He is an axe, let him grind on this thread XD
15k HP pool.
Playing Berserker I’d attack your clones/phants while you were in stealth, and gunflame you when you were out. On berserker I have 28k HP, so getting through that would take a while for you, especially considering I run two sources of resistance (healing sig on 16s cd, zerker stance on 60). For the most part, I could just ignore you.
On Daredevil I run p/p venomshare. I’d out stealth and out evade you (3 dodges with energy replenshing heal, and cleanse on dodge) and just counter condi you. I’d be looking to +1 on you anyway (superior mobility) so looking at it from a purely 1v1 isnt necessary.
On Mesmer. Since we’re both low on cleanse it’d be the most dangerous of the three matchups. But pretty much since we’re running the same number of stealths, it’d be careful to kite out your stealth and summons (even using my phants to counter your phants), bide my time, and stunlock burst you. The rabid armor/HP shouldn’t make a difference.
What is the role of this build anyway? Roaming DPS +1? Obviously not a point holder XD
What happened to your leaving? I thought you wanted your money back.
Could you please make vid of following :
1v1 necro
1v1 crono
1v1 DH
1v1 engi
1v1 druid
Do those in OS or guild arena with same skill level player .
We can discuss viable after that.Ps. Also try gs/ham or gs/sw.sh war builds for that.
What sort of a discussion on viability are you after? Is it the viability of 1v1’ing? Because that’s what you’ll be able to conclude from your request. Which game mode are you looking for viability in exactly? I’ve not heard of it.
Oh, and class roles are (mew meta withstanding)
Bunker
Support
Roaming DPS / Decapper (tends to fill both roles)
Bunker ammys were just removed, and various classes NERFED. It’s suspected the coming meta will be high dps, and bruiser heavy. There’s suspected to be a high Necro (condi/corrupt) and thief meta. What actually happens remains to be seen.
Things you can expect:
There will still be a need for somebody/s to hold a point.
There will be people out to remove said somebody’s from those points
I’m sure somebody will come up with a way with which to support both holders and removers from achieving their ends.
So yeah, point holders, dps, support.
