If SoR is just doing this to get out of T1 faster, all power to you since the low morale caused by staying in T1 is really not healthy for your server anymore. However I would suggest you guys shed a bit more guilds (especially your OCX/SEA guilds), otherwise you would be back in T1 in no time….

SoR still has ocx guilds? Oh wait thats right we don’t have any left.

Most of HIRE has merged into GC and most of GC is leaving for ESO.

Err, GC is not leaving for ESO. For that to happen the pvp in ESO would have to be good enough to warrent a monthly subscription, and even then convincing a majority of players to move is another story.

If you wanted to go REALLY crazy and make traps favorable, throw in a trait that strips stability and/or boons on tripping a trap. Maybe different traps focus certain boons.

Also, on a class that has so little access to condition removal, having your iWarden running around or not attacking removes an all important source for anyone running focus. If the iWarden doesnt spin, the temporal curtain light field cant be landed on him for condition removal.

In this condition heavy meta we Mesmers need our iWardens working. Other classes can spam a single skill to remove conditions. We have to combo two long cd’s on a single offhand. The least you can do, Devs, is fix the thing immediately after breaking it. We are customers. Where is our service?

Cool, thanks for the info. I’ll probably try it out with my rabid gear. I’m thinking about running it with CI and BI to get a nice AoE immobilize after my burn has run out.

BI is good if you can catch some interrupts (and not just hit a bunch of stabo users), but CI I think is wasted in zergs. Again, IF you intterupt someone, in the mass chaos and condi clearing of a zerg you’re not actually gaining any control over a target. You’re cc’ing someone, but you’re never going to single that person out. In which case you’re just landing a condi at random to no other purpose than to land a condi at random.

So, if you’re going to land a condi at random with guardian runes why not take PU? Lets say you use The Prestige, you get 4s of boons, some of which will be aegis, which will proc burns, then the flame blast + burning after 4s, then all the survive leftover from the protection and regen. There’s just a better payoff than CI in anything greater than a small man havoc situation.

SoR is a karma train server. Why would they want to attack something with defenders?

The best karma trains are found on those servers with the maximum number of players present to melt everything in their path. Not those with an inferior force being blocked constantly by forces three times their size. Nice try though.

WvW: PvDoor
WvW: EOTM

The old BL’s and EB are even worse than PvE as knocking down doors gives next to no rewards. It does, however, lead to ppt, which BG lurves. The entire design of WvW: PvDoor is anti PvP. To succeed it’s best to avoid fights entirely. If you enjoy this, more power to you, but to expect other people to endure that nonsense is ridiculous.

You may see WvW: EOTM as some sort of karma fest, and the way it’s been made it offers the best in that kind of experience. But at the same time it comes with the ability for massive, constant, PvP ACTUAL COMBATIVE encounters. That’s all any serious PvP’r wants. To engage other players in combat, not just doors for ppt. Fact is, it’s a hell of a lot of fun, unlike WvW: PvDoor (unless you’re one of the aforementioned folk who thrive on that sort of thing).

Is anyone currently running this build still? What are your experiences with it? Do you try to use Mimic with your own projectile, and if so, how successful is that? (i.e. does your projectile bounce off another ally instead of you?)

Well, I’m certainly running my holy hell version in eotm with my guild atm. Because of the way its set up, and the new meta’s that are taking place in there, ive not needed to concern myself at all with IF i’ll catch a projectile. Everyone brings ranged weapons now as the terrain, the chokes etc, demand you bring them.

My experiences are good and its my preferred build and style of play currently. I can survive so much and still cause havok to an enemy zerg (and tagging well is always a good plus).

Ok wait, I must be doing some mistake here… what skill is this thread about? As I posted above, recently I have tested Phantasmal Warden on a centaur’s “catapult-like” thing on Kessex Hills and it did as expected, same happened with other mobs. It executed its move (whirlwind attack with 2 axes) and stopped 5 secs later, but it restarted so soon I shot the mob too. However, Phantasmal Warlock did nothing while the target didn’t move, and even so it stopped shooting a few times. Phantasmal Disenchanter worked fine and did as expected.

I’m not out here demanding Mesmer get fear, all I’m saying is that considering the fact that Fear is a psychological effect, it’d make more sense for a Mesmer to have it rather than an Asura warrior going “Fear me!” and 4 Charr and a Norn go running off in absolute terror.

And if we did get it, I don’t think it should be on any more than ONE thing. An elite makes the most sense.

Hey, they were looking for something to put on the scepter AA that wasnt a condition. It’s one thing. Am I right? Am I right?

In D&D you’ve got fear effects in the mind/compulsion side of magic. But warriors also have intimidate. All that said, how about an elite that makes the target dance on the spot for ten seconds. WAY better than Moa and fear combined.

Fear on iMage? What about just a 1s daze? That’d be a major mind kitten for a player who ignored the phantasms presence. Once you start traiting specifically for it, you’ve suddenly got a very viable, powerful dueling build.

This is no matter of who has more clues, keep this niveauless kitten comparison for yourself, thats not my style!
What I’ve written was just only a little brainstorming based on a suggestion someone else has made here, that I found interesting and by far better, than to just mindless swing the reversal bat too early, only because of some crybabies which believe that each change Anet does to the Game, which they personally don’t like, must be always direct be a bug.

However – by the reaction of Josh, one might think this now to be the case, but even if so, this still doesn’t mean, that out of an unintended bug can’’t come out maybe with some creativity something, that could be better than how the game worked before the change.

I for myself wish me only, some people here would become finally really alot more open minded and would stop to see every tiny change always directly like a little doom of the world .. sheesh

In the end its still regardless of what you or me think over this here.
Its ANets final decision to decide over, what is best for the game and if maybe the Devs find it perhaps also interesting to reiterate over the Clone Disappear mechanic in regard of Stealth…

The thing is, you’re so far out in left field, so far off the wall, so far out in space, so away with the fairies, so incredibly insane, that it’s clear you have absolutely no idea about the mesmer class as it has been created and continues to function on a very basic, fundamental level, and no reasonable, rational, half-decent mesmer could even begin to accept or even countenance what you’re suggesting.

In a way it does promote stacking, because if you don’t want to do EoTM, and you want to focus on Mist War, then you would want to be on a server that actually does that.

EoTM surely does kill regular WvW, but I did notice that some people are still out in the old WvW BLs fighting, and our EB had a queue most the night.

The question will be, what servers would you stack on? We don’t know how EoTM affected the top 3, so maybe there are other servers that actually are better for WvW now.

As of last night:
SoR abandoned WvW for EOTM. Having said that, I’m oceanic and there’s really only one oceanic guild left. So without their presence there’s nothing to rally on, and the BL’s all get capped.
JQ held very little and they’re stronger than BG at the same time. I assume they were busy in EOTM too. As I understand it it’s very much like them to swarm new features. Nothing wrong with that.
BG was out in force playing by themselves, holding the high PPT. Understandable since we’re all creatures of pleasure, and this is the only thing that gets BG off. We did go to the BL’s knowing BG had a presence there, but even though we had inferior numbers they refused to engage us. We held a single paper tower, and instead of fighting they retreated from every advance and instead built a gari treb to treb into our tower…..

Yeah, if there’s no PvP to be had in PvP, there’s no reason to play. So that’s tier 1 in a nutshell.

Overgrowth server is stacked!

Lol, I see GC stacked in the back. We went to EOTM looking for fights, got some good ones, but did a lot of rolling over enemies. Eventually the enemies ran thin and it turned into the best karma/loot train around. Needless to say it got boring fast once we played with all the toys, so everything dispersed after that. And since WvW is is a worse state with all its players in EOTM, people logged to play other games.

The alternative play option, I found, was to join and rally on the nearest pug commander on the map. These disorganized rabbles lacking communication were nothing but walking loot bags in any tough fight. I love seeing that extra population running around, but when it’s made up of lower tier (and I use this word definitively, not as a put down) scrubs, the competitive fun ‘playing to win’ aspect goes way down. The game just becomes frustrating following such commanders and associated militia. It’s no wonder things don’t just turn into karma training, and these groups of players start avoiding fights.

People are not FORCED into zerging…. You don’t have to zerg if you don’t want to. This map allows for various types of game play styles, if you want to zerg, cool. If you want to run 5 man teams, cool. Solo? Yup, cool do it. Yeah, the first day people are zerging, why? The don’t know what the hell they’re doing! I used to be a monstrous pessimists too toward this game. This new stuff should of came out LONG ago. But at least it’s out now. I came back to this game because of this new patch, and I loved it. It was like I just started WvW all over again. I give them the benefit of doubt. Good job anet, I like this.

You’ve quite possibly summed up the problem with EOTM, or with the direction of WvW based PvP in general: to much variety. Lacks focus. It fits the EOTM as a queue map, but since people are treating it as an official game mode and area of play and not just a brief stop in on your way to the real game, it’s not quite right.

Karma train is the classic name of the activity. What’s being farmed nowadays is everything else.

Mesmer class features require clones/phantasms

  • Mind Wrack: Destroy all clones and phantasms damaging nearby enemies
  • Cry of Frustration: Destroy all clones and phantasms confusing nearby enemies
  • Diversion: Destroy all clones and phantasms dazing their targets
  • Distortion: Destroy all clones and phantasms gaining distortion for each one shattered
  • Mental Torment: Mind Wrack deals 20% more damage (synergy wasted)
  • Empowered Illusions: Illusions deal 15% more damage (synergy wasted)
  • Rending Shatter: Shattering illusions inflicts vulnerability on nearby enemies
  • Shattered Concentration: Shatters also remove a boon on hit (cant shatter on hit without clones)
  • Confounding Suggestions: Chance to inflict stun whenever you daze a target (lost a class wide source of daze)
  • Phantasmal Fury: Your phantasms have fury (not when they’re dead)
  • Duelist’s Discipline: Increases pistol attack range of your phantasms (see above)
  • Illusionary Defense: Take reduced damage for each illusion you have in the world
  • Vigorous Revelation: Shattering Illusions grants vigor to nearby allies
  • Persisting Images: Phantasms have increased health
  • Compounding Celerity: Move faster for each active illusion
  • Shattered Conditions: Shattering illusions removes a condition from you and allies around you
  • Restorative Illusions: Heal a small amount when you shatter illusions
  • Precise Wrack: Mind Wrack has an increased critical hit chance
  • Confusing Cry: Cry of Frustration grants retaliation
  • Compounding Power: Gain increased damage for each of your active illusions

And this list doesnt include other various clone related traits, mechanics, or gameplay based themes.

To give you more of an idea since you obviously can’t comprehend what this means for Mesmer, it’s like taking a thief and removing all his mainhand weapons, then telling him to weapon swap more to compensate for the problem.

As I said in another similar thread. I support this change. Moa kills all minions, stealth kills all illusions. Minion’s don’t have a “master”, illusions don’t have a target, I mean. Fair is fair! It’s okay to have hard counters against mms, but Mesmer’s aren’t allowed to have one?

Just kidding, being a vengeful kitten . I feel for you. Just remember this though the next time you moa a Minion master.

If I ever see one, and on that rare occasion he fails to block, dodge, or blind my moa attempt with its lengthy animation and excessive cooldown, I might stop and think of you.

Yup, great trait. Use it in the Holy Hell Chill Build, and think its best as part of a havok with focus. It looses its luster in zergs as all that stability ruins things. Not to mention the general chaos onto of rng element doesn’t help things. I love all these cc’s with as much duration as possible. It really forces the enemy to act or die. That said, i’m more than happy just with long duration chills on hydro weapon swaps. Its a harsh mistress.

When you say a full set of Dire is recommended, is that including trinkets? And is Dire recommended for just the Commander and Zerg variants? This looks like a ton of fun, can’t wait to try it out.

Full Dire, either just armor, or armor and trinkets, will give you the most amount of survive for your condition dealing buck. I know people wanted it, but Dire is a ridiculous set that should never have been introduced to the game imo, especially not with the condition meta the way it is.

Having said that, as of late I was trying out my soldiers armor with my cav trinkets. Still using the same setup. It’s more than enough survive, you can hit decently, and the condition damage is solid. So long as you’re in a good group (and every commander should be), you’ll have your might stacks to boost all sources of damage. It’s also so easy to get a soldiers set.

I am loving running with my guild again atm.

I’m always wondering to myself: what makes a viable mesmer zerg build?

Is it raw DPS?

Is it unique mesmer utility?

Is it the ability to tag appropriately?

Yours seems to be the raw DPS mindset. In which case I wonder, is it anywhere near as good kitten many other classes? Or is your role to target and pick off stragglers and the backline?

Knowing these things helps with feedback about the build.

Dont play NA prime time. More people, more groups. Try Oceanic. Less people, less organized guilds, more solo players used to not playing with and relying on others for motivation to get out there and play.

Devon seems happy. It doesnt matter that the RNG creates an insane disparity concerning when these are dropping, though rare they ARE dropping. So a couple players have seen many multiple drops, while others wouldn’t believe they truly drop to begin with because it simply never happens.

Instead of RNG, why not simply quantify time and effort into reward for avid WvW’rs, just like fractals, and give one assured ascended ring every 10 levels, an ascended weapon every 20 levels, and increase the random chance between all those levels for rare loot across the board.

The OP talked about rewards for PvE’rs after taking down a five minute boss. I’ve had random fights with players that’ve taken longer than five minutes. And there’s no way in hell I’d get by standing stationary spamming my AA one attack with little chance of going down, and every chance of being ressed back up. Where the enemy is capable of killing you, and actively trying. There is no comparison to the risk vs reward presented by PvP in WvW, and PvE. That’s why it’s so ridiculous when the very reasonable request of players, aka customers, are so ignored. And what’s the explanation for this?

You can get them in any of the chests from rank 6 on.

What he failed to add here is that there are an infinite number of numbers beyond 6. Ever see the probability needed for earth to come about as the life sustaining planet that it is, and that the numbers turn out to be improbable given the total amount of time our universe could possibly have existed in? Yeah, the chance of an ascended ring dropping is greater than that.

Then you factor in getting one you actually want…

They’ve never displayed it. Not once. So whoever this guy is he needs to open his mouth and get involved with the rest of the development team.

Fortunately I didn’t watch the video, so I’m blissfully ignorant about the way they handled it. I’m hoping by being positive it might encourage any of the devs who care about thus class to step up and make the changes needed.

Ironically it was overwhelming negativity that made them have a change of mind.

Idea is simple. Either,

  • Increase the number of targets a trap can be triggered against. Say 3 (On Needle Trap, Tripwire).
    or
  • Improve Master Trapper: reduces trap cooldowns by 20%, and increases number of “trips” from zero to 5 (On Needle Trap, Tripwire).

Reason being this would add some support utility to a thief operating in a zerg. Taking Needle Trap as an example. The Thief could stealth into an enemy zerg from the flank after a push, lay a trap, and catch 5 members of the tail with immobilize. This would create an opening for an organized force to turn around and destroy them.

Tripwire would work well in the same way but on an enemy push (in that sweet moment before stability is called).

MESMERS – They will still be overpowered. A profession like this, with clone spamming abilities that distract the opposite player, should NOT be overpowered.

ENGINEERS – They are fine… the class which in my opinion requires the most skill to play and gets equally rewarded.

I love the PvP Engie main calling the Mesmer OP.

Discussion: Downed/dead state and zerging

I would go for the following.

Rally only on spiking.
Spiking gets pushed back by damage.
Downed abilities do not cause the pushback.
Rezzing gets pushed back by damage.
Rezzing applies reveled.

This way if you down an enemy in the middle of the fight they stay downed until either they get rezed, get spiked, or their teammates spike someone. Since damage would push back spiking/rezzing it would be a risk to try and do so in the middle of combat. Pushing back spiking due to damage also counters the stability issue a little bit.

No one would ever get spike again, rofl

Mesmers with distortion would become the heroes of wvw.

I see a lot of drama talk on WvW chat about people that play for PPT and those that play for Bags and Fights only…. I see commanders arguing about it with one another along with the players the follows then… and a great division is happening at least is what I feel on SoR.

You’ve made an error here.

It’s not that things arent defended on SoR (We keep scouts on watch too). Rather, due to the inability to win the PPT game (Its a given face it) we "dont play for PPT). Instead a lot of us are playing for fights. So anywhere that means creating and engaging in more fights, you’ll find SoR fully loaded and engaged. In many instances that crosses lines with PPT, such as scouting and running to defend a keep or tower, or pushing a keep or tower which will force a fight.

At the end of the day, coverage and population imbalances mean we cannot win PPT. However we can hone and dominate in the actual fights (which we do). While BG and JQ spend a large portion of their time honing their zerg balling, PvDoor’ing, and PPT potential across the board, SoR’s guilds, and it’s militia, spend all that time honing their fight provoking and zerg ball countering. It’s what we’ve always done. It’s what we’re good at.

Your perspective is simply skewed.

Is that all you got for THIEF? Poisons are useless atm anyway..

MESMERS – They will still be overpowered. A profession like this, with clone spamming abilities that distract the opposite player, should NOT be overpowered.

ENGINEERS – They are fine… the class which in my opinion requires the most skill to play and gets equally rewarded.

I love the PvP Engie main calling the Mesmer OP.

So, what if you only rallied allies when you stomped someone, rather than cleaving the body? This would be much more difficult to pull off in large-scale fights, but you would have added risk/reward for attempting.

Pro’s

  • Would lead to new builds being put in play amongst organized guilds/forces
  • Thieves and Mesmers would be serious contenders in the new meta given their superior advantages when it comes to stomping (both stealth and invuln features).

You are right about it adding more dimensions to combat. Hell, if we’re going to spitball and go for some real out there ideas, what if once downed you couldnt be DPS’d down? It’s stomp, or bleed out (though perhaps when using the #4 heal you can be struck and interrupted). Combat would evolve entirely around downing, and stomping the downed, and the risk/reward involved, not to mention the build meta altering to making that happen.
Crazy, but an idea.

Why not tie rezzing to something objective based… oh I don’t know, maybe the ruins?

0 bloodlust: rezzing of a downed player can be done by any method currently available, but a dead player cannot be rezzed.

1 bloodlust: a dead player can only be rezzed out of combat, within x minutes.

2 bloodlust: a dead player can be rezzed by any method, no time limit.

3 bloodlust: a dead player is rezzed whenever a stomp is made.

Restrictions: rez restrictions are applied at time of death. So if you die while only have 1 bloodlust, and your server goes up to 2 bloodlust, you still are restricted to 1 bloodlust worth of rez power.

Its a nice idea but favors stacked servers over the outmanned. Stacked servers already have the zergball effect in fights to begin with.

Gives me an idea though.

  • In a world without ressing from dead, change outmanned buff to include ressing from dead.

Mesmer Glamour confusion, oh wait…. nerfed.

Retaliation, oh wait…. nerfed.

Drop some siege, oh wait…. melee trains roll over that with impunity

Implore Anet to introduce counter mechanics/measures, oh wait…. we’ve done that.

Buy a name changer, rename your toon to “loot bag”, and roll over like so many NPC’s before a PvE champion train. Hey, at least it’s sure fire.

I’d swap Illusionary defence for Decent into Madness if you wanted it. You have 3200 armor and protection from PU. You have a ton of direct damage mitigation. Decent into Madness (fall damage reduction) is a situational trait, so you take it if you plan to fight around cliffs to utilize them to your advantage.

If you wanted more damage mitigation there is also Debilitating Dissipation on 10 in chaos. The weakness procs cause Fumble.

Don’t forget your food. If you really want you can take -40% condi duration.
