The portals are usually used in any form of jumping puzzle (PvE content).
On the bright side it otherwise does not take 15 minutes to ride a big bird to get somewhere, there should usually be a waypoint close by. If the party member has not discovered that waypoint yet then unfortunately he would have to run.

Everything would need a remake. I can just see “legendary” purple characters afk stacked next to events like boss blitz. No you would pretty much have to separate those players. I don’t think that’s the way the developers want to go.

You know what would be a far better way to improve skill in players? Rewarding them for better play. Positive reinforcement is much more effective than negative reinforcement. If you reward players for playing better they will naturally try harder. For example, you could have better loot rolls from boss chests if you did not die during the encounter.(…)
Nice idea, but how would it work? We already have people AFK on the side. You could translate this practically to quick make DPS as needed (aka tag), then go to safety until others downed “the boss”, finish “the event”.
Professional speed runners get an extra in dungeons (which they already have because they are faster) while the others already have the incentive not to die because of the potential wipe and more time lost.
I’d like to be more positive about this, but I just see too much potential for abuse.

Alternatively they could put in a reward for not dying, you already have an achievement for experience gained with out way porting, dying etc. Add another achievement for reaching level 80 without dying and one for world completion with out dying. complete with titles and chests (Been there, done that, didn’t die?)
It has been mentioned that greater death penalty would mean people didn’t play. If that were true no one would have played a hardcore character in Diablo, or taken part in the Ironman contest in WoW, both of which were popular.
I do have a few characters that I do play hardcore already, if they die they get deleted. My choice, and it does give a whole different mindset when playing.
I do like the world completion idea.
Diablo is not a MMO.
Ironman in Wow is player created, as you mentioned in your last sentence you are already doing that. There is no reason players could not start the GW2 Ironman challenge.

it would be a real advantage if you have to double check it (like char deletion/special item destruction/so on) if you kick someone from guild – I did accidentally do that like 10 or 20 times when you wanted to join a guild mate on his layer and the “kick from guild” option was right beneath the join option.
Totally agree, I have a 1 man guild that I am the only member of and have a similar problem, if I was to press the [Stand Down] button my guild would be instantly disbanded and everything lost. I made this guild at headstart, I have max slot guild bank and many tier 5 guild perks. When I first made the guild I did press that button by mistake and then had to remake it, and ever since then I have feared the [Stand Down] button.
I saw the behind the scenes LS this week in which Kate Welch the UI designer was on the panel, so this is an appeal to Kate please fix this section of the UI, we need a confirmation tab on these buttons of doom. Thankyou.

I had assumed that the emphasis for something of this sort would be on instanced content. Open world content is entirely too subject to variables outside a player’s (or team’s) control for what I suggested (or death penalties for that matter).
Ok, sorry, since a death penalty is usually universal I assumed this would be universal as well.

What is needed, in my opinion, in general are not death penalties on the player but encounters that cannot be overcome with attrition. Bosses getting a “morale boost” that heals them for some small amount, or perhaps provides them with a short term invulnerability buff, when they defeat a character would incentivize not dying without directly penalizing a character.

I seriously remember from longerish ago that yes it took longer to defeat the spider. But not to a degree that the HP bar did not budge a bit for (what feels like) minutes.
Now when I encountered it a week or two back again there was no zerg at the spider, maybe 5 people, that should not result in such a drastic form of up-scaling.

How would you balance the “high” cost to enter (I assume this is a consumable device).
What happens upon leaving the map? Game could have crashed.
Do you envision a time-frame in which it should be feasible to re-earn what the entry had cost (in regards to the “increased” rewards).
How would you balance this, if at all, among the different kind of players? Should this time frame be an hour? Two? Maybe exclusive benefit for the 5 hours a session player?

1) You are awesome and you want hard penalties to feel great. Fret not that is no problem, just be friggin awesome and consequent at the same time. Delete your loser character as soon as he hits the ground. Problem solved, everyone happy.
2) You are awesome but not that awesome? You still want to be more awesome than that casual loser that falls down every two seconds? Pay Evon 5% of your total gold worth every time you die. How? Place a sell order for the amount you own and then take it off again afterwards. Increase this number as your awesomness rises until you change to option one.

The amount of pets in the market will never decline because you don’t have to acc/souldbind them.

We already have tentacles … and lingerie does not fall into the same category as school uniforms (although I personally would find lingerie to be wrong and I don’t understand school uniforms) or a miko outfit.
