I don’t think the daily/monthly achievements (don’t really like to call it that btw) are meant (anymore) to entice trying out different things and I would see as Jaken said other mechanics as more important here (tournaments etc).
@Morsus – I know, but you don’t have to “count” anymore. I’m not sure if crafting or the mystic forge is still a part of that. I think they took it out? Some might argue that would be a great gold sink.

this sounds kinda interesting and is not so much in your face.
However there is still the other reason for the “10 rats” thing, which is to get people do do something outside their comfort zone.
You might not like doing thing XYZ usually, however there is now a daily or archievment combined with it, you go out and do it.
While it feels restrictive sometimes, dailies like “complete events in region X” actually gets people in these areas.
Sure, most players just do the fastes thing there and are gone, however they still will be exposed to this part of the game and maybe stick around for more.
There is much more to the daily then just an alternate way to progress ingame.
It is also an insentive to delve into other parts of the game.
I thought about that, but I wasn’t sure if there would still be a point to the map-part with the new megaserver technology.
Well, it never got me to PvP or participate more in WvW really, but it’s of course a fair point. Could we encourage that without making it feel mandatory (for a majority as no system will ever please everyone)?

Hearts – while not the core element of this game I liked the implementation. A subtle change from kill 10 rats or collect 10 rat tails by having a unified progress bar that does not tell me how many rats I have to kill and counts different activities towards the heart completion.
Daily/Monthly. What was/is the initial goal of this? An alternate form of progression, “rewarding” playing daily? Or to give us 10 rats to kill?
Here the simple idea, change the progression to a progress bar and make every category count. Don’t tell us to recycle 10 items or harvest 20 – let me progress by doing whatever I feel like doing – the infamous “play how you want” slogan.

Ok, now I would just like to point one thing out … or rather ask … in which game have you seen, or played, a dwarf that was made of stone? My experience with MMORPG’s is most likely very limited compared to some of you out there, so maybe someone else came across this already, but it would surely not be “common”.
Yes, I think it would be a nice side-arc or some sort of “personal” story addition. I would definitely be interested in seeing it. However, I think the dwarves will have to get in line and if at all it will be likely years down the road …

The argument will always be that you can just buy it on the TP.
Sadly that is the reason why I would not believe that something with an impact will ever be done here. If ever I read patch notes about some increased drop chances – all I do is maybe raise my eye brow and think “oh yeah? we’ll see”.
Dye’s from my point of view were the perfect drops. Not too often not too rare and chances were always that one of my characters could use it. Changes made to dyes where good, but in order not to devalue them they are not dropping anymore.
If there was to be a “better” dropchance in general for every player – boy would that devalue many things. I would like it, basically because for my personal taste it would feel better than to buy it (“would you like fries with that?”).

I bought sets for 800 where i only wanted 1 item from. So thats 800 per piece .. for examle Brahams Chest and Aetherblade legs .. that was 1600 for only 2 pieces.

This might sound silly Tempus, but unless you are really lucky you will most likely regret getting those bags. You could most likely rather get the T6 material bags, sell them on the TP and get your equipment that way – NOT that I would recommend that as rare and exotic equipment is not that hard or expensive to come by and laurels is the most gated currency. Just play and have fun for now.

I for one like many of the armour skins and how they are able to interact with each other. The level of detail with different materials and often even moving parts.
To be clear, we might be talking about different things, there are some nice designs – for example when I look at the screenshots above from KarlaGrey – but obviously it’s an older game, it’s not the same quality and lacks three dimensionality.

AP and skill are probably fairly strongly correlated. Only Anet has the exact metrics, but experience in the game will roughly translate into skill. Of course there are always outliers in the data, but the correlation will still stand.
Someone with 500 AP just hasn’t experienced enough of the game and the AI to have a good understanding of it. Someone with 20,000 AP has seen all aspects of the game and has put in a significant time investment. You can give all the outliers you want but AP is roughly related to skill no matter how much you yell that it isn’t.
Unless the bulk of AP are given for the specific task you are looking for – the indication is merely that someone has done something, perhaps joined the queensdale zerg for monthly champion slayer completion, not that he “has to” be better at the specific task you are looking for than someone else with a lower number of AP.
To end this debate Anet could award individual dungeon path “speed clearing” titles and whatever equivalent might work for fractals. A mix of fun, tongue in cheek and semi-serious titles might do and could spice up the group advertisement as well as speed up the required checks – “yo, pop title yo” – not to mention will result in more varied forum threads a la “I have all speed clearing titles but just not this ONE and they did not let me play with them – how should I get the title!!!”.
