The point is the game is a blast the way it is.There is no justification in putzing awound with the classes at this point and surely not screwing with confusion, an effect that damages people but only when they let it.

What about switching and mixing it up a bit between NA and EU T1 with T1 and etc.
How about making a new map where T1 from both regions can play on. Something like 6 servers, and in the same time keeping the other borders with the 3 server cap. I got to say it’s getting a bit boring facing the same opponents.

I am on SoR and I can tell you that during our Oceanic/Sea/EU we can hold 2 out of the 4 maps with a floating force between both. BG has the same dilemma. JQ’s SEA and EU coverage is unreal with an 80 man zerg on every map. We know TC had some recent guilds transfer as well so I wouldn’t be knocking your own server.
We are strong EU and slightly better SEA/Oceanic than we used to be, I still think we would have a rough time with SoR/BG. I’m not knocking us I am just being realistic. Do u not remember being BG’s kitten for months lol. I can’t imagine that was fun for you guys.

Maybe for the lower tiers. But there is such a huge discrepancy between the coverage of T1/T2/T3 that the matches would be blowouts. Mixing and matching even T1/T2 would not be a fun match. We have been stuck with a T1 server before for many weeks and they just dominate with their 24 hour coverage.
Would it not be fun and challenging to be matched up against a T1 server? Or even for the fun fights against different guilds and players in your respective time zone? Like a couple posts above, it actually helps out the glicko rating. By the way, the only server with true 24 hour coverage is JQ so no reason to be scared.
What server are u on Rogi. I can tell you that BG and SoR have full 24 hr coverage they may be a little weaker at times than JQ but the coverage is there I can tell you from experience. JQ just has better coverage 24/7. It would be fun to have some variety but rotating dominations through the tiers is not the way to do it. That would not be fun for anyone.

I suggest rotating the match-ups within the top 1-3 tiers, 4-6 tiers, etc. Playing the same two servers every week gets a little repetitive. Even if a tier 2 server gets smashed by JQ the glicko rating won’t be affected that much and I can guarantee there will be a lot more active WvWers in all the tiers knowing that they get to match up against a variety of new guilds/servers. I think it will spark a lot more interest not knowing exactly who you will be matched up against every single week.
What fun would it be to have to face JQ on week 1, BG on week 2 then SOR on week 3?

We faced BG/SoR in T2 for weeks. BG completely dominated T2 and SoR picked up some guilds and wrecked us for a few weeks before they moved up.
Edit: Don’t get me wrong we had some fun but it gets old being dominated week after week.
While a T1 server might actually ROFLSTOMP a T3 server, the matchup may prove beneficial to the T3 server depending on how well they in fact do against the T1 server.
The glicko experts can chime in here, but if the T3 server did better ‘than expected’ against the T1 even while losing by a lot, it could gain points for the week.
Not having different competition to gauge each server against really hinders Glicko’s implementation from what I hear. Servers need a chance to test their skills periodically against other servers so Glicko can work better as a whole.
I don’t think this is how it would work though. When a server is being dominated for the most part a lot of the “fair weather” WvWers won’t play that week after they see it will be a domination. Especially if they know it will be short term and then go back to normal. This will just end up creating a bigger discrepancy.

Well I can’t think of a time when it is fun to completely dominate or be dominated. So yeah, in 1/2 a year I will still like the match unless something seriously changes.
You could not be more wrong. If JQ or really any T1 server dropped down to T3 lol the T3 servers would never leave spawn. When a T2 server drops down to T3 it is bad enough and the other servers are barely able to compete if at all. Rotating between the 3 tiers wwould just be stupid. The second a T3 server saw they were going to be put against a T1 server they would just quit for the week. They may fight over the weekend but when it is no fun because you are spawn camped all day and night no one will play.

Protip – Stop attacking.
A lot of people (including myself) are tired of the mega-zerg mentality that is currently dominating WvW.
I understand that it takes skill to coordinate the movement of a large group of people. Still, when a mega-zerg is so huge that enemies can do nothing but auto-attack (something only seen in epic 3 server battles until recently), the game loses a massive amount of its skill factor. Even with hardware/software upgrades to completely remove skill lag, I think many believe that these massive zergs trivialize the strategy of WvW.
With all of this in mind, here are some ideas Anet could consider that might dissuade the zerg mentality:
A lot of people complain that the maps feel too small. While it would be difficult to change the map completely, nerfing zerg movement would help to create the illusion of a larger map, and might encourage massive groups to split up forces. This could be done by:
A) Nerf swiftness in WvW. CDs, duration, AoE. Who knows? But zergs shouldn’t be able to run around with 100% swiftness uptime.
B) Increase the contested duration for waypoints. Zergs CONSTANTLY run to defend one keep, port, run to attack another, port run back to defend the first, etc. Decreased access to waypoints would mitigate this.
C) Charge for waypoint abuse. Another way to slow down zergs’ abuse of WP’s. Give players x free waypoints per hour, then start charging more and more for additional uses.
D) Slow down map hopping. I’m undecided on this one. It might adversely affect small, coordinated groups, too. With disconnects and whatnot, it’d probably be technical nightmare to implement anyways.
E) Turn on the melee attack assist feature with friendly targets. Drastic, but it sure would be fun to see! Can you imagine a 60-man zerg trying to rush out of a keep portal at the same time?
Other ideas not related to zerg movement:
F) Divide tower rewards based on the number of cappers.
G) Prevent large guilds from manipulating the “full” server status with blackout hours.
H) Continuously provide free transfers to players on the top two or three tiers.
I) Remove AoE limits on offensive skills.
I know a lot of the WvW forum warriors are members of these massive zergs, but I would appreciate any constructive discussion about these or other ideas.

Lol I will go out and get a full zerg of glamor mesmers and kitten an entire map. Or possibly a full zerg of well necros. Either of these would be unstoppable, this would not break up a zerg it would make it worse, you would have numerous zergs with nothing but mesmers and necros..

I had the complete opposite experience. I rarely PvP and WvW all the time. I went to try sPvP and the players were terrible. I was 2 and 3 v 1 and winning consitantly defending a objective. I also found a lot of people do not know how to play objectively and leave as soon as it looks like they may lose. How is this fun? It was maybe the most frustrating thing in this game so far, trying to get my 10 wins for the monthly.
WvW has many options, you can run with the zerg, you can roam in small groups or solo, you can defend/upgrade, or you can defend yaks. I think it has a lot to do with personal preference as well. I like the idea of epic large scale battles and using a lot of strategy to overcome your opponent. Believe it or not there is strategy when it comes to zergs crashing. The zerg with the better strat usually wipes the other.
Just another way to get trolled by Anet lol. We got Kamali twice in a row Sunday. We beat it the fist time just barely and failed the timer the second time.
Luckily it only costs like 200 influence and about another hour of setup lol to try again.
They need to fix the warning system
You should just save up and buy it. It is very unlikely you will ever see one drop, and near impossible you will get the one you want.

I would love to see the cap go away as I have a well necro/staff ele/glamor Mesmer. Lol I didn’t even think about Mesmer, can you imagine a whole zerg of confusion mesmers with no AoE cap LOLOLOLOL Throw down a feedback and watch an entire zerg melt ha. I see why the AoE cap is in place. Please remove the cap so we can run around with full zergs of confusion mesmers and well necros.
And confusion isn’t even affected by retaliation. Way to go, I’m playing a glamour mesmer myself and I’m all against simply removing or increasing the AE cap. The nerf hammer that would have to follow will hurt far more.
I agree, my post was more joking at how ridiculous it would be to increase or remove the cap. They would have to do so much nerfing it is just easier to have the cap. Removing the cap would not discourage zerging, it would make it worse.
The last time TC moved down a Tier was for a week and we wrecked tier 3.

There are huge discrepancies between tiers and their coverage. A Tier 1/2 server has almost 24 hour coverage. More so in T1 with small gaps in T2. Last Time we had a T1 server move down we got wrecked. Glicko is a terrible system but changing the volatility would just make it worse. You end up with T1/2 servers playing T<3 servers and those Tiers would never leave spawn. How would this be fun???
The put a bandaid on T8 for now. Lets just leave it alone and let them figure it out. With free transfers gone there will be very little volatility now and we will be playing the same servers for quite some time now.
If there was no cap there would be nothing but well Necro’s in WvW. They are bad enough the way it is. I have been in groups that have marked/welled up the portal coming out of a keep and watched most of the zerg coming out get downed almost instantly. Without a cap whoever had the most necro’s wins.

May I suggest that in addition to adding points to T8 servers you also take equal number of points away from T1 servers. Because currently ossification is also happening there as well simply because the point difference between them and T2 is so high.

Do not mess with T1 and T2. No one in these tiers are crying about their matches. The matches are fine. None of the T2 servers can compete with T1 and we are happy where we are.
Righteous Indignation needs to be removed all together. Lower the rewards for camp capping if there’s worry about exploitation but making 40+ people stand around for 3 minutes doing nothing is not good gameplay.
If you are just standing there for 3 minutes you are doing it wrong. I won’t tell you how but on many levels you are doing it wrong.
I expect this LS during RI to be nerfed/fixed in the next patch. With a good zerg only putting down dark fields you can melt the camp champ in <1 min.
Why would you ignore spikes? If you consider the chance of getting a rare, I’d say that you gain twice as much money from all the spikes you get compared to the 20s from a rare every now and then.
It was more of a joke. But if there was a ghetto box you could decide whether to grab that or the normal chest/bag of loot over the ghetto box before you die. A better fix would be NO MORE BAGS/BOXES that are so easy to miss because they don’t spawn until you or 600 past them and a lot of times bugged under the map so all you can see are the sparkles.
They should really create a ghetto box. These boxes only contain spikes/hooves, this way you can just ignore them and move on. Sometimes I will almost die running into a zerg trying to get my bags before we wipe only to find most of them had spikes in them.

This is not griefing, this is frowned upon and usually only done by guilds that are mad cuz bad. They are not able to kill anyone but Pugs running out 1 by 1 from spawn with their group of 10.

I like the idea of making it harder to get out of downed state with maybe less than 40k hp and 50% damage reduction, and definitely harder to get back up. I would also make this for PvP and WvW only, it is fine the way it is for PvE.The idea is to making death more of a penelty. Why am i at 100% potential (minus my cooldowns that were used recently) right after i get ressed or rally?
I understand the point and agree with the premise but a 50% reduction in stats would be silly. You might as well just die. My point was don’t reduce stats but make it easier to kill someone in the downed state. That way if it is a close fight they still have a chance to rally but a harder time being rezzed while downed or fighting for a long time while downed.

That is an absolutely terrible idea. You want fresh new matches every week, facing any server? I recently transferred from T1 to T7 and let me tell you, any server in T7 would be mercilessly farmed by a T1 server to the point where almost everyone would stop WvW’ing. It would not be fun for anyone.

I think what needs to be encouraged are methods of breaking up the zergs. Currently the wvw system greatly benefits running in massive zergs.
1. Keeps aren’t strong enough. The massive zergs can take down fully upgraded keeps within minutes. By the time you hear of the attack its already too late. They need to be beefed up considerably, doors/walls/npc guards. The ease at which a large zerg can stroll through and take everything easily contributes to said zerg forming.2. Siege weaponry needs to hit harder. You shouldn’t be walking away from a ballista/trebuchet/catapult hit. They should make large zergs extremely wary & not trivial. Large zerg rolls up to keep and gets hit with ballista… boom 10 people insta dead.
3. Remove the cap on AOE
4. If no defenders are present the npc guards should take control of whatever seige gear is currently available not stand there useless as most npc guards currently are absolutely useless.
5. Lastly, if people want small group pvp go join spvp. This isn’t daoc. We don’t need elitist 8 man’s in WVW.
What you are suggesting would make it near impossible to take any keep or tower in my tier.
Most Keeps/towers are defended or have a scout there to watch. Rarely cakittenerg get through outer and inner gates before defenders show up to stop them.
Some of you people need to realize that your tier is not the only one in the game. Some of us are very organized and are able to respond in order to defend. Some of the suggestion you come up with would make it impossible for the organized tiers to be able to take any keeps/towers after reset night when everything has been fully upgraded.
Yeah if you don’t siege up your keeps there is no point in upgrading.
And there’s little point in placing siege unless there are people willing to stand there, doing absolutely nothing, getting no rewards, 24/7, on the off chance that an attack actually happens.
I’m pretty sure most people who do this are actually using a second account on a second monitor, so they can play the game on their main while watching on a secondary. That’s not a realistic solution to expect the playerbase as a whole to adopt, though.
The whole point of golems seems to be to avoid PvP by bashing through both sets of gates faster than defense can respond. Nobody uses golems against a manned keep.
Since the point of golems is to avoid PvP, we should just remove golems from the game.
We always have ppl rotating in/out of tower/keep watch and have many scouts. Rarely are we surprised by an attack to the point we can’t go straight to the lords room and start to defend. I would like to see rewards for people defending though. It does get boring after a couple hours, but it is worth every minute if we are winning.
And now, 8 golems took a fully upgraded Garrison in less then 1 minute. I ask what’s the point of upgrading, especially when it does not benefit you.
Maybe you should try sieging up your lords room and defending. It does not matter if 8 golems get in if you have a well fortified keep, with plenty of siege. A sieged up LR in Hills is near impenetrable, 3rd level sieged up in garrison is also a tough one to crack even with a ton of golems.
Yeah if you don’t siege up your keeps there is no point in upgrading.
12500 baubels for 1 skin. I would run the mini dungeon, so far you get 7 bubble baubels for completing the first world. I would be willing to bet you get more for completing the second.
I’ve finally realised why I can’t enjoy or begin to enjoy this game even though it’s amazing and is in my favorite genre.
I’m not the demographic at which they are aiming for.
With the “Super Box Adventure” commercial I realised GW2 is made for the 35 year old gamers, or gamers generally older than me in their late 20s to 30s, who love this nostalgic feeling of 8bit games and bad american commercials. I didn’t grow up with this so to me it’s just not something I can relate to on any level.
With no time constrains and content available to anyone at any skill level, they are aiming this game at ppl who have a wife and possibly kids, gamers who don’t have that much time in the day to actually play games in general, in another term casual players who don’t have all the hours in the day to play. That isn’t me i’m not a casual gamer, I have hours for college work (not uni), and games. I’m not constrain by casual hours.
I’m not looking for an arcade game or an adventure game to play, a 8 bit platformer or a platformer in general. I’m looking to play an mmorpg. Mini games are fun but when the bulk of my fun from the game is coming from mini games, i might aswell be playing a real adventure, platformer or arcade game than a water downed version of such in an MMORPG.
Lol so they make 1 mini game that you can’t relate to and the whole game is crap. This is a casual game. There are numerous <20 year old people in my guild that are loving the game, if they cannot relate to or do not like an aspect of the game they do not do it. Pretty simple. How is the bulk of your fun coming from mini games. Do you not like the dungeons or fractals?? Are you past Frac 50 yet? Do you have 2+ legendaries. It sounds like you want to grind. I would suggest TERA for you then. That is a hardcore Korean Grindfest.
The best part is you don’t even have to have LoS to Mesmer pull ppl off. There were mesmers doing it in Garrison on reset night through the floors.
I think pulls should be fixed in the actual BL’s and EB. But left the way they are for the JP’s. Camping the JP’s with Mesmer pull sounds like the most fun ever. I may have to dust mine off and give it a whirl.
I never really understand these threads. They make me wonder if T2 is the only tier that has both zergs and small groups. Generally, my guild runs both a zerg groups and numerous small groups(disruption – for taking camps and defense groups.)
Why can’t there be both? Sometimes there is a zerg of 60 but usually less. The other small groups run around and take smaller objectives and defend camps/towers. These groups sometimes run into a zerg and get rolled, but there are times when they have small skirmishes as well.
I think the point of WvW is you should have some of each, a big zerg to cap towers/keeps and smaller groups to take camps and sometimes a tower. Would it really make sense if you could just run around and cap keeps with like 5 people. It seems to me you would need an army to do this.

There should be no such thing as a “junk upgrade that wastes supply”. We should be 100% happy to see any upgrade get bought.

I agree with this. If they took away the supply component of some of the less useful upgrades I would love to see Wxp for upgrades. I usually am on the defense team on reset night and am one of the players that is paying for upgrades to camps/keeps, I would love to get Wxp for that. But as of right now it would be too easy to troll for Wxp with upgrades.

Freakin bloodbath in KNBL last night. You guys need to pan your cameras more often. Not fun when our strategy goes to waste because ppl aren’t even paying attention. You can tell which guilds hid behind the veil of culling very easily. Adjust and bring your A-game next time
Easy to say when you outnumber everyone on the map 3 to 1. What strategy, porting back to where you started. You didn’t really fool anyone, there wasn’t much we could do but try to keep contesting the camp until you got bored and went over to Bay. The one fight I do remember even numbers we wiped you at the camp. Don’t get me wrong you guys are a heck of a good coordinated guild. You blindsided us with that the first time you did it. We are all sitting there dead wondering what happened.

Depends on what server you are on. On TC we have a serverwide mumble with a channel for each BL. Most commanders will also type what they are going to do or what you should be doing next, but they have to keep it to a minimum so they don’t get suppressed. You may have been following a group that was in voice chat and was not relaying things in chat.
Mostly it just takes time, after a while you will get the jist of what is going on.

I didn’t like zergs before the patch since it was impossible to tell if it was a zerg. After the patch, the visual scale of a zerg adds a nice element of excitement particularly when two zergs smash into each other. Our small team had a great time last night killing people at the tail of a few zergs.

Being able to see both armies standing there in formation and then clashing in a huge battle added to the excitement. It is nice to be able to gauge army sizes now, especially your own.
Everybody knows you can hit the gate and wall with splash damage from a cata at the same time if you aim it right. Well at least I hope everyone does.
Well for the most part unless you are in a low tier server you are never going to see an empty camp long enough to solo the camp. So most ppl don’t bother, it really does no good. These are not tricks they are common knowledge that is no longer useful. As far as siege goes.
It sounds to me like you play on an empty tier and have no idea what real competition is like. It’s easy to run into an empty bl and find a zerg and say huh nothing has changed.
In fact my account is in the GoM 7 tier but this didn’t stop me from taking the account of a friend who bandwagonned to the Jade Quarry.

Still always ending in 2 big zergs.
The whole point of WvW is to have large armies battle it out. Of course this is going to end up with large armies battling it out.
I can’t picture an army of 5 going to a castle in ancient times and taking a castle. Obviously this is not real but it is based on the premise that you need an army to siege a castle/tower/keep. Camps on the other hand are meant to be taken by small groups.
I’d say this video is fitting given the situation.
