idea: get rid of the dodge and downstate mechanic replace them with “real” healers and "real " tanks… after that u can do whatever the hell u want with the dungeons.. IMO there is no real tactics to any of these boss fights or dungeons, its dodge dodge doge rez rez rez roll yur face across your KB blow all CD rinse and repeat… just MO tho.

NO, that just makes it like every other MMO then. I got this game becasue it did not require the trinity. So sick of that mechanic.

They added a new tier…just like other MMOs
They are taking ress at waypoint during combat out….just like other MMOs
Tank builds do exist, healer builds in lesser forms.

Really as things progress this game will be more and more like other MMOs.

The lack of trinity exists only because people aren’t completely allowed to (mostly because tank builds can’t really control threat). That’s a thin line.

Right but just about any class can run a tanky build for survival, you do not need a tank or tank class to be successful. You can still pretty much run in a group made up of any professions. My point is, you don’t have to sit in chat spamming for a tank healer for hours to find a group. They may have just ruined that with this not able to WP while in battle. I feel bad for PuGGers it’s gonna be rough for them to find groups now.

Can you imagine trying to fight Kohler in a PuG after this change LOL.

Kohler is actually not all that hard to deal with. It takes one or two fights to learn his prompts, but once you know the exact timing of his pull, it’s rather easily avoidable.

It’s a very dull fight though. It’s merely a case of smacking a wall of health, timing a dodge, continue hitting, etc. Rinse repeat for a few minutes … a very mindless dull fight.

Do people seriously have trouble with him? His red circles are pretty generous. They won’t one shot glass cannons, they have enough delay that you can walk out of them. The key is to not twitch dodge and strafe out instead.

What I dislike and have encountered a few times is during phase two (unlike one, and I don’t know three, never get a group to do it…), his circles tend to overlap and extend quite a bit in a confined space. Sometimes the circles overlap so much that you can’t clear it with one dodge roll, and the damage is enough to go down.

Kohler isn’t that hard for a guild group. I have been in to many PuG’s that cannot do it and 2 ppl die every time.

Separate Casual and Ranking WvW

The problem that needs solving is the removal of Jp from the wvw system, as it has no place in the scheme of things other an being an annoyance at peak times when some pve guild decides to bring in 30 players and camp the JP ‘for a laugh’ while all your week’s worth of hard work and fully upgraded keeps goes up in smoke. Badges of HONOUR should not be a JP reward, they should be earned on the battlefield by completing tasks for your server (including defending and escorting dolyaks).

Disabling mesmer portal skill in the JP would be a great first step while you figure out where to get rid of the JP to.

They just need to move the JP’s to a seperate instance. I can’t imagine that would be too hard to do. When you come out of the JP if the BL is full you are put in the queue and sent to LA.

I will never PuG agian I guess. This was the only thing that even made a PuG managable. I will also never bring a low level player into an explorable either. It would be near impossible to finish. Maybe explorables were only intended for 80’s and not as a way to level.

Can you imagine trying to fight Kohler in a PuG after this change LOL.

As WvW is now, but WITHOUT any kind of score-ticker, score, match-win and ranking.
It is open for everyone. The servers that play against each other are choosen randomly.
And as there is no match and no win, it probably a good idea to change the enemies
every 24h to have more diversity.”

This would cause problems with greifing. I can guarantee that there would be guild groups out running around to kill the carebears for fun.

On the face of it this proposed change is just utterly ridiculous especially for specs like staff eles that are nothing but aoe. Like the poster above me stated the effect on WvW will just be greater zerging, as it is the restriction of damage to only 5 people leads to more zerging this will just make it worst.

Anet if this is a change for sPVP please do it for sPVP only and I’d want to see iron clad justifications for making the change in PvE and WvW.

This isn’t true, and you know it. When my group kills 35-55 players, because we’re made up primarily of Area Effect builds, all wrapped up in a single group of five, there is an issue. We usually run Elementalist, Elementalist, Necromancer, Confusion AE Mesmer, and me Thief (my primary roll is to finish people off, and make sure they’re not rezzed), while adding Cluster Bomb damage. We slaughter countless groups much larger than us, thanks to the AE damage we can put out.

I will give you one thing though, if they lower the damage, they need to increase the number of targets hit.

Keep in mind most AE abilities do far, far more damage to a single target, than most single target abilities.

LOL, you must play against some pretty fail zergs if 5 of you are killing 35+ people. If you have 5 you are at most hitting 25 ppl with AoE. What do the other 10-30 ppl do? Just stand there while you kill them? I can stand in a glass cannon ele meteor shower for the extent of it and survive. If 2 are hitting me I MOVE LOL. AoE is weak unless you are playing aginst idiots.

Any effectively coordinated servers?

So, are there any servers out there where people actually listen and communicate?
Servers where map chat is used effectively to give instructions AND those instructions are heeded/discussed.

I know within any server, you can find good guilds, but they can only do so much if the rest of the population is left out/doesn’t listen.

I’m talking about map wide co-ordination with people doing all the things from the mundane (seiging, repairing and yak guarding) to more bold innovative offensive things, like hit squads, flanking and distractions. (Not just turtling, of course which is a necessary evil.)

For example, in a queued map:
- One to three main non-overkill “zergs” defending/pushing (“zergs” because they are more than mindless auto-attack glass cannons that refuse to lay/build seige)
- Multiple parties of 5 doing coordinated strikes, cutting off enemy re-inforcements, guarding yaks & killing enemy yaks & distracting.
- An appropriate number of people repairing, building seige, sweeping, scouting, guarding.
- Communication and knowledge between the above, preventing things like a zerg running to a supply camp to stop 3 people when a hit squad would have been enough.

Maybe I’m asking for the impossible? But there is a slight chance that a server has figured it out.

You have just described Tarnished Coast to a “T”. All of our maps are very coordinated and the commanders are talking to each other dicussing what they are doing next. There are always a few commanders leading small groups to take camps and scout. It sound like TC would be the place for you.

A week is perfect. It gives everyone enough time to get thier upgrades in place and then go out and take objectives from other servers.

One day would be way too short. It would just be an alll out battle to take a few objectives and hold them until it’s over in a few hours. Everyone would be too afraid to leave thier home BL for fear they might lose something and it would be over.

On TC /m chat is for your everyday talks. /t is where people bark out commands. It’s unavoidable but it’s pretty acceptable in our map to ignore the commands as long as you’re doing something useful. A lot of the camp cap, monsters cap, scouting, and defense repair/setup are done by individuals doing their own thing.

I wouldn’t put it as barking out commands. Most commanders I come across are just stating what they are doing so the other commanders can also plan thier moves. Most times I just see a “we are heading to Hills” or “We need to get Garrison sieged up” or “need help at xxx”, etc.

How does spending 100g on a pretty icon mean one is qualified to bark out orders? It doesn’t.

You might like zerg action, but when I sign on and just see people blindly following a character with an icon over his head, all I can do is sigh.

And, of course, try to find a server with better action.

It doesn’t that is why it is up to the person to decide whether the commander is worth following. Most people only get the tome if they want to be a leader in WvW.

If they are a bad leader they wasted thier money because no one will follow them. At least that is how it works on my server.

That sounds like something that could get you banned, especially considering that ppl got banned for using salvage kits as intended.

What? This is complete bull crap. People get banned for the stupidest things lately, and I even heard stories from players who got banned for doing nothing wrong, and had proof that they weren’t. Yeah, they got their accounts back for submitting a ticket, but why were they banned in the first place?

This is the type of behavior that needs to be stop not encourage. I shouldn’t log on to Guild Wars 2 just to play, and fear being banned, because I might do something illegal. Since the poor, and lack of communication on Arenanet part on things.

Example: Players asked if the snow flake bug was intended. They never got answered, and Arenanet didn’t give us a warning. It was just. “BAN, LOL, BAN, LOL.”, but luckily it was only the worse 200 offenders. Even still this type of Fear they are instilling into their players is bad.

I see no reason why this Player can’t go mine Ori at level 2 if he has the means to do so. That’s his choice, and that’s how he wants to play his game.
Besides there’s no difference between 1, and 80 besides 1, and 0s. There’s no reason why he needs to wait to mine it if he wants to make money, or craft.

Anyways. that’s my thought.

True, however you also left out small forces. (Yes they do exist.)

  • Culling is extremely bad due to larger fights*
    Arena Net is currently working to end the culling issue. Also it happend back in low tiers as well. Culling, effects all, not just select tiers of WvW.
  • Individual / Small-scale PvP is irrelevant because fights are usually 5v5 or larger*
    There are a lot of 1v1 fights, duels, and teams of 1-3, even 5 on occasion running havoc. Though there are also larger groups, 10-15, 20-25, ect… at the same time around the maps.
  • Maps (especially Eternal) occasionally get queues meaning that sometimes you have to wait to play with friends*
    99% of the Queue’s will be on Reset night, or for a server which owns Stone Mist Castle. Then again all servers push the hardest during WvW reset nights. (The queue might reach 1 hour if super lucky, or unlucky however you wish to view it.)

Here’s a few mroe “pro’s”
Most the Tier 1-3 servers have a tight night community which works together.
Most the time you won’t end up fully capped in tiers 1-3 over night. (Unless against an opposing prime time server.)
A lot of T1-3 Servers use a common VOIP program for WvW. (Though I’d think any server serious for WvW would do so.)

Yes you are right coverage does play a “part” in a server’s rank, however it is not the only factor. Some of it does depend on skill, knowledge, and such. You may not believe it, but most who lead on T1-2 servers know many many siege placement strategy’s, or tactics they can do, which will boggle their enemy Please don’t make it sound as if T1-3 just zerg around mindlessly. If they did, they would have low scores, and be nothing more then a way to farm Badges of Honor.

Another thing to consider if you are a guild looking for a server to move, is the coverage of the servers you are considering. I’ll use an example, if you’re an Oceanic guild and want to go to a server with an oceanic based wvw population, expect to hit Queues, however if you join a NA based server you’re less likely to get queues, and more likely to make a huge impact. Vice versa for NA guilds wishing to move to servers.

The best advice I can give to any guild or players looking to move servers, is to scout it out.
If into WvW look for some of the WvW community leaders, speak to them, get a feel if the server is right for you or not. Believe it or not, you have time. You can scout now, and move before the 28th. (Heck a week away nothing says you have to move RIGHT now, this instant, or even at all.)

Also be aware you will lose guild upgrades once you move, and will have to regain the influence to rebuild.

I appreciate the replies but as for not dying, in a server in which my world appears to lose all the time (Tarnished Coast) an impression which I received not just from participating in being facerolled but also from talking to veterans of WvW on that server, death isn’t just inevitable, it’s about as easy to avoid as a sackful of rattlesnakes.

This is precisely why I think they should remove the need to repair gear in WvW. I imagine most people wouldn’t care about losing as much if they didn’t have to pay for it with gold too.

As for the “part of WvW is avoiding fights” argument I think that’s kinda weak. Sure, I’ve played games in which teams would spend time trying to avoid the zerg or draw it elsewhere – that’s all well and good, but they only did it because they were horribly outnumbered and lacked the capabilities to do anything else. This is a game mechanics flaw, and it’s nothing new either – WAR was doing empty zone flips long before this game.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I was under the impression WvW was a three-way fight between 3 realms, and yet all I’ve seen is my realm (the losers) and another world (the zergers). Have I misunderstood something? I was hoping for a 1v1v1 situation like in DAOC, where the outnumbered side could screw the other two up merrily by wiping out the survivors of a battle or stealing a keep while the other two fought each other.

You are on our server and you think we lose all the time, as of this minute we are in 2nd place and must have made some really good pushes last night because when I logged off it was a lot closer. We are a T2 server. Do you play late at night? What guild are you in?

I was a bit lost too at first in WvW, I got in with a great guild that focuses heavily on WvW and it is the most fun I have had in a game. Try to find a good guild, my guild is recruiting right now and we have a blast 3 nights a week in WvW. If you haven’t tried an organized push then you haven’t tried real WvW.

You say there is no defense? We spent most of our time last night taking Hills and keeping it and then capping camps and towers as best we could.

Man, don’t give up on WvW, if I had after my first few times in it I would have missed out on what I think is now the best part of the game.

I can’t really speak for your server, but Tarnished Coast is jam-packed with people. Try jumping to one of the busier servers.

Typical denial response. The game is horridly empty in every non-starter and non-end game zone… on EVERT server. And the game design depends on people. It’s failing on all fronts.

Lol wrong. I have leveled 2 alts recently one all the way to 80 and I have another at 40. I was able to do about 90% of the events with a lot of people. There were numerous areas where people were in map chat just linking all events that came up so the other 10+ people could go do them. I see people farming events in a lot of areas. I do not see a lot of people in Orr, but that is normal. There isn’t much reason to go there except for the big events.

I started on Ehrmry Bay and had the same problem. I moved to Tarnished Coast about a month and a half ago and have had a blast since. There are people pretty much everywhere.

Seeing someone complaining that server X is camping the JP and please come help when his server is loosing in wvw and has a queue to get into EBG makes me wish i were on server X just so i could help kill him some more.

Its bad when you WANT the opposing server to grief people on your server so they will leave and in doing so help your server!

can and should still be a full pvp zone as it is now, just dont associate anyone in it with the player cap on any of the point maps

I went into the JP one night after being in the queue for a while. I wanted to see what was going on as there was a lot of JP talk in chat.

Got in there and it was lik 50 people dancing around naked and RP’ing while we lost most of our objectives on that map. flips table

Portal Bombing Negates Small Defences.

The OP’s point is valid. There is no means of defense that can stop a portal bomb, period. And to that end, the mechanics placed in game to give smaller forces a chance to hold off larger forces (IE siege), is trumped without any recourse.

Anyone that has an excuse or supposed means of stopping a portal bomb from occurring, is only lying to themselves, plays with inexperienced players, or has no practical WvW experience.

Case in point, on my mesmer alt… my bomb setup is: Focus offhand, Torch offhand, Mirror, Mantra of Concentration, Blink, Portal, and Mass Invis. There is no defense in the game that can stop me. Add thief stealth to the mix and I can get to any point I want, fully stealthed.

Swiftness, 2 dodges, blink, projectile reflect, 3 stun breaks, stability, and stealth. I dodge, reflect, and blink through your AOE fields without so much as getting hit most times, and walk through your knockdowns and guardian walls like they aren’t there. All while being stealthed. And when I do drop my portal, expect to have it placed under your siege, behind objects, or half way clipping into the wall. When my allies come through, expect another mesmer or two to drop down their exits, completely overriding the quantity nerf, and expect 5-6 of your nearby players to be downed before culling finally renders most anyone coming through. Like clockwork, your defense is dropped in the matter of seconds, and your keep is ours.

The idea of portals is neat, and gives groups some interesting options when in open field fighting. The implementation of portals to completely negate lord room siege/defenders turns what ‘would have been’ great fights, into an exercise in facerolling. It cheapens the experience for both the defenders and attackers. Right now, the only defense to holding anything, is the walls/gates. If your opponent breaks into inner Bay/Hills, you’re done.

And as an FYI, all tier 1 servers (including mine), do the exact same thing every time Bay/Hills/Garry has defenders. All of the “Oh just do <this> to stop a portal bomb” that you see up above… just screams inexperience.

You could not be more wrong. Everyone should be looking for a potal on the ground/ a mesmer running in, it does not matter if they get the portal down, when you see one there are some very specific things you can do to stop them and hint hint…not allow them to leave that spot… while you aoe and collect bags. I would say your inexperience shows up very clearly here as you do not know how to stop them. We stop about probably 70% of the portal bombs we see. When you face them numerous times a session you learn new startegies to combat new techniques.

The only portal bombs that are difficult to defend are when they put down 2 or 3 in different spots and you do not have enough of a certain profession in your group to stop them.

Quaggan/ogre/hylek camps are a good examples, but even the grub.
I dont mind the JP either, but would wish for more objectives in them to be tied to the actual WvW battles and rewards more targeted at WvW.

Harpyie is badly implemented pve, cuz its too easy to kill and too “well hidden/safe”.
Same goes with all those annoying random mobs (kraits, icebears, wolves,wolves, wolves…^^) littering the WvW everywhere…
They hinder WvW and would be better off stuffed away at centaur camp…at least it would be attracting more players to that area.

About wrong incentives from PvE rewards
More siege BPs, more badges (less in chests!), more money-worthy items.
Player kills and WvW events should give away lots more of craft mats & more drops < exotics/rare level.

On the other hand rare stuff like Exotics/Precursor …
…should be possible to drop (even from player kills), BUT with a WAY, WAY,WAY lesser droprate compared to pve!

May sound paradox?!
The high RnG factor on rare loot gets dimished by the higher kill count and “long term dedication” (..to kill player/take objectives) of a typical WvW player. The surplus on money-worthy drops will be (already is…^^) “countered” by the WvW money sinks.
While the lesser drop rates on rares wont scare away pvper from killing players, but wont be any real
incentive for money/rares-farming pve dedicated players.

After all killing players for some hours feels less grindy for the pvper compared to PvE while possibly be more challengeing and expensive at times, which often dont get rewarded.

Thats why overall money income should be higher, because costs on the long run are higher if dedicated to WvW.
While rares can be rarer, because bad drop rates get compensated by longterm dedication to WvW.

I got a Zap in WvW off a player kill the other day. Precursors do drop in WvW.

That is what scouts are for.

You’ve obviously never been on a bottom tier server. 1 person is 5% of your army. 3 scouts and your army is down by 15%.

Better for us to have people on an empty map as a scout but at least allow them to farm to make money for upgrades and sieges.

Disappointed with WvW

We have epic battles everyday on my server cluster. This week has been the most competetive yet. Your server is doing it wrong if this is your experience in WvW. Those arbitrary numbers have meaning to all of us, this is a competition and we want to win.

As far as a mindless zerg is all you need. Wrong! There have been numerous time I am in a group of 10 or less and we manage to hold off a zerg of PuGs. A coordianted group vs. another coordinated group = hours of fun. On Friday reset this week we defended our Garrison against 2 huge zergs from the other 2 servers for like 4 hours and managed to keep it and get upgrades going. If you want to have fun in WvW:

Join a server that has a good WvW presence.
Join a guild that has scheduled WvW events
If you see a commander tome – go to it (after a while you will start to recognize who the good commanders are and follow them)

How not to have fun in WvW:

Play on a server with dead WvW
Join a guild that casually runs into WvW to play in the JP
Run around alone haphazardly toward crossed swords

IMO WvW is the best part of the game if you get with a good WvW guild. We try out new startegies every week. We have groups that specialize in completing certain objectives (ie. groups that just ninja camps, or for just defending siege). It is far from a zergfest to me.

In rift we had great battles around dragons on the pvp servers. But honestly, if your going to make a post about what we want, take the time to get to know us each personally and find out the things that make us truly happy, otherwise we are going to have to vote you out of office and hire a new representative.

There was also a lot of crying on the forums about griefing ppl that were trying to do raid rifts. Some guilds were going as far as reporting people for griefing the raid rifts on a PvP server. I think it is just a bad idea to add PvE to WvW. The JP is bad enough, when productive player spots are being taken up by players in the JP that are RP’ing and doing nothing to help the cause for your server.

I forsee this causing more problems than fun.

Portal Bombing Negates Small Defences.

Portal Bombs are causing issues with sides which are defending against larger numbers. We are finding that despite having a Lord’s Room full of siege, bottlenecking and good tactics, a simple portal bomb will completely bypass everything and give us no way to battle this larger force.

Not sure if serious.

If you are watching for it there are numerous ways to defend against it.

Portals will be dead for portal bombs anyway, they are so easily defended against. Once we figured it out we hope for them because it is good for a huge pile of bags/exp., they are useless for portal bombs against a decent guild.

It would be nice to be able to get more than 20 inside a tower/keep though after you have been hiding.

I have a D/D ele and a Shatter Mesmer. I am sorry but the ele is not OP. I have yet to meet a bunker ele that can take my mesmer down 1v1. I don’t really think any class is OP right now. You must play some really bad players on your server. If ele’s were OP I would never be able to kill one.

I think ppl don’t really understand what OP means.

1. Fix culling
2. Make the jumping puzzles thier own instance that does not count against the total number allowed in the BL. (It sux when there is a queue and you get to the map to find 15 ppl defending, while seeing spam for mesmers TP ppl to the top of the JP, you go into the JP to find 100 ppl dancing naked and Rping at the top while the whole BL is being taken by the enemy.)
3. Fix the exploits.

Mentioned in your WvW video thread but adding my +1 here.

Playing from South Africa with around 200-225 latency and I have the exact same overshoot problem combined with Updraft leaving me facing AWAY from my target as well as Burning Speed having a much shorter range where the blast triggers behind me most times. Add to the list the fact that things like Fire Grab, Drake’s Breath, Cone of Cold and Lightning Whip regularly miss due to latency makes me a sad panda.

And sadly there is nothing I can do to improve my latency, even using BattlePing to get the most out of it.

I don’t think this is lag. I have all of the same problems with a ping of like 50-80. I can never figure out why the above mentioned abilities miss about 70% of the time. Even on a stationary target they will miss.

Also the overshoot problem is rediculous. I have only noticed it in WvW, but it is a gamebreaker when in 1v1 or 1v2. And it is horrible when you want to hit air4 to close gap on a zerg then air5 to knock them all down and get out so your teamates can finish them off, you overshoot or are stunned at the end of it and are dead.

I have the same problem. The other thing I have noticed since patch is Staff 2 turns you 180 degrees when you use it so you are facing away from the enemy after you use it. I always end up pulling another mob because it will auto attack right after casting it.

I just started this game last week and have made it to lvl 40 without seeing more than about 20 people total since I left the starter zone or went into Lion’s Arch. Really boring and slow leveling your first char alone:(

20 in Illusions is for the extra bounce trait, that basically doubles the damage from the staff, and will also add an extra hit on mirror blade if you are using greatsword.

Not an extra “hit” but a “bounce” . Which is not really useful against a single target, isn’t it?

The difference is night and day. I got to 40 last night and put 20 in ill for the extra bounce with my staff and stuff dies much quicker. It seems to stack bleed/burn effects a lot faster and enemies just melt. I can now take on 3-4 normal mobs plus a veteran 2 levels above me as evertything dies so fast now. It just bounces between the mobs and me over and over, like a stream of Winds of Chaos.

There is a community in this game? Ok, true I am not a veteran with a huge experience of all aspects of this game, havent even reached 80 yet!

Getting close though, so far, the only evidence I seen of a “community” are rare posts on any map chat (mostly its dead though), 2 completely random guild invites and 1 group invite for a map event. Other then that this feels like a single player game…

Sigh… maybe I picked the wrong server or something,

I have to agree, I rarely if ever see another person while questing. I have not even seen any guild spam or recived a random invite to one. This feels like a single player game, I am trying to get through as fast as I can but it is slow going alone.

I have been wondering about DE’s. I never see anyone leveling, I just picked this game up a few days ago. After I left the starter zone I hardly ever see anyone else or see any chat. I have been doing as many DE’s as possible but I get very little exp and rarely anything useful as a reward. I had to solo a champ yesterday, I bet it took 15-20 minutes and when it died I got nothing, NOTHING, but a little more exp than I would get killing a regular mob????

I was hoping this game would be teeming with people and it would be easy to find groups for DE’s and such, but I don’t really think they are worth it. WvWvW seems kind of empty most of the time as well. The pop on my server was high when I joined it but I don’t ever see anyone, I hate soloing and would like to at least see some guild spam so I could join one LOL.

I am almost to lvl 35 and hope I can get a group for a dung run.
