Anything a ranger can do another class can do better.
yes. this is a very important topic because an entire profession is MISSING from wvw. i dont understand why theyre not taking this seriously. allow me to address this issue as someone with over 1k hours on retired ranger, who plays other professions currently.
people love killing and hating rangers because they are the trolls of GW2. not sure if anyone remembers Retribution paladins or hunters from vanilla WoW, they were KOS for most people just like rangers are. there are several reasons for this attitude toward rangers:
- by far attract the worst players in the game, and have low skill cap
- hard countered by immobilize and virtually no reliable condi cleanse
- people cant stand rangers pew pew’ing with bows from 1200, it kittenes everyone off
- pets lack AI, which feeds into the “rere” image
- petting zoo is seen as zero skill cap, monitor crowding spec
- rangers dont do enough AOE damage, dont have enough survivability and dont have enough utility (***this is probably the main reason rangers are banned from most serious WvW guilds)how we can change this attitude:
- keep petitioning devs to buff the profession in WvW, keep asking for pet mechanic revamp, keep asking for trait cleanup.
- run solid builds and pets to contribute something useful, like canines, high survivability immobs, or condi regen in small scale; use healing spring appropriately and ask people to blast it. change people’s attitudes by playing the best you can play.Rangers are great to have in roaming groups. And nice for defending small objectives. You can hold a camp for a long time with a ranger and a few other ppl.
ranger is one of the worst roaming professions. mobility is good, but you have no real escapes (blinks, target drops), no instant stability skills like SYG or stances, little utility for your group, not enough damage, and NO RELIABLE CONDI CLEANSING, making immob a hard counter and ranger’s worst nightmare.
the serious issue of group utility: rangers reliably give only the worst boons to the group (regen, swiftness and fury, which eles, guards and warriors kitten out constantly). rangers do bring the best aoe immobs in the game, second best water field, and have decent survivability is specced right. thats about it folks.
the serious issue of profession mechanic: pets melt instantly in serious wvw engagements, and F2’s while useful have long cast times, which is why they only work on afk people and other PVE mobs.
the serious issue of worst aoe damage in the game: aoe is bread and butter of WvW and ranger has only ONE viable aoe ability (Path of Scars, because it’s instant, long range and low CD), and ONE unreliably aoe ability (Barrage due to its long cast time). traps, torch, GS cleave, Whirling Defense are bad bad bad bad.
i would LOVE it if Karl, JP, or Devon would comment a little on their perception of the ranger in WvW and future plans to make the profession usable in this game mode.
Literally every sentence of this is complete crap. You are wrong on every single word. Every… single…. word….
I could not find one thing I agreed with. ggwp.
Maybe we just got bored of winning all day and feel like TA.
Gw2 is not pursuing esports. You are fooling yourself if you believe that.
Make an npc with 1,000,000 hp and 3k armor that does 20k dmg per hit to zerker.
No stability and no defiant. It attacks around the speed of two staff 1 for guard per hit.
Now you need support and control, no CC or aegis or immob = you die.
No.
You can add depth to ranger though. There is a reason good rangers beat bad ones. They don’t spam 1 button and do 1 thing.
Maybe you should check your prorities.
1) Spirit ranger. x-x-30-20-x.
2) Traps x-30-30-x-x.
Shout builds aren’t good.
Power is too situational and is non viable without empatic bond.
BM is usually paired with spirit ranger now as 0-0-30-20-20. (I find this to be the best build for ranger at the moment.)
Report as botting.
Anet told us this and the reson why is a gm prob looks over the player’s actions, and will take action because of it.
Short answer is no.
I will get more condi stacks from the same update. Maybe tormenting and earth sigil.
I strongly advise you to stay out of exotics, dyes and lvl 68+ rares.
Very, very strongly.
Tis against the ToS to say why though, but I think you can think of a few reasons.
I would advise against shouts for everything.
Regen can be maintained with dwayna runes.
SoR removes more condis than shouts.
Guard’s cast time renders it worthless.
Sic’em has some use but cancels pet f2/quickness.
Protect me is good except for zergs.
I played FA until the format died before gw2 release.
Not sure about warhorn. I’d run torch for perma burn. Piercing is interesting. I will have to look into that.
I think you didn’t post this looking for an honest answer. I think you just wanted to vent.
That being said, it isn’t just the ele that gets hit every patch day.
If that was true I’d put a lot of people out of guilds…
No wonder everyone hates me.
To add to the above analogy. They try to throw eachother down the staircase, but one person has a tether attached to him, so he can’t fall. His class won’t let him fall.
There is no adaptation when your class is shafted on stability and lack of cc on respectable weapon sets.
Give me an instant cast shout for ranger and I would be fine with skyhammer.
“Hold!”
Immob target for 1.5-2s
20-30s CD
900 range instant cast.
Then whenever the low skill trolls stand over the plates to magnet you off or thief hook, you simply use your shout and they fly to their death 100% their own fault.
I’m not sure that is how dishonorable works. Still you left 2 other times, so lets say you get 1/3 of my sympathies.
Why did vvv lose in the GF tourney when they ran triple bunker?
Look in this forum for Sol’s thread on trap rangers.
Aside from a few choices, for rune/weapon/sigil/ammulet/10 trait points, his is the basic trap build for tpvp.
With wilderness 10 the pet bleed is around 66 per tick.
I think a “place me” option for hotjoin would be nice. It would stick you into a match based upon some hotjoin mmr.
You could still ignore the option and manually join though.
Nobody determines the mesmer by their glory booster buff.
We see erratic movement or non clone annimation and click the person.
We would see your booster only if we already had you selected…
Foundry is where I would test my VQing builds. I got past the 3rd room too.
It is a nerf because you lose the power dmg pet with condi dmg specs.
Take a diamond skin ele and a shamans BM ranger. Since pets don’t scale off your stats your pet can eat through the diamond skin, which you could not do.
I think the build is pretty stupid and low skill, esp because of automated response.
That being said, a warrior homepoint shuts the build down hard. And I think a dps ranger would too (if the build could kill anything else).
Seems to be a lot of people here who probably have never played an engi, but feel like they can evaluate the skill required to play one based upon Auto Response.
Yes, auto response does reduce the threat of conditions, but there’s so much decision making involved in everything else an engi does, it blows most other classes out of the water.
On most classes, if you need to heal, you press your heal button. There’s a few exceptions where current conditions suffered and such are considered, but that’s mostly it. For an engi, you consider what your current health is, then weigh that against whether you detonate your healing turret, whether you blow other CDs for a blast finisher (Big Ol’ Bomb, Shield #4, etc.) to get extra healing, or whether you just pop the turret for the base heal and pick it back up for a reduced cd. A good engi will know exactly how much to blast for extra healing and when to save cooldowns.
And that’s just the heal. Engis have a lot of combo fields, which means that knowing what combo finisher to use at the right time adds another element to gameplay, and that’s before you even consider all the extra potential actions to take with the extra skills that kits provide.
So if you want to claim that engis are overpowered, go for it. That’s a valid argument. If you want to say that engis require no skill just because you’re frustrated at losing to a strong class, then just stop and go educate yourself.
You act like timing your heal is something that is high skill. Don’t you think that other classes have crap like that too? I’ll name some that I do just for you.
Swapping pets and timing their 1st hit skills like drake blast and wolf knockdown in fields like water/fire/poison.
F2 canceling and pet position.
Comboing through your heal field once or twice using sword f2.
Comboing through your bonfire.
Timing your condis to enemy condi removal.
Timing spirit active to self res.
Smart evade use due to NO stability. (RaO not taken).
Timing your evades on your own condi removal to counter smart players.
Counting enemy evades and weaponsets.
etc.
Stay on your high horse of skill as long as you want. The fact that you play engie doesn’t make you some golden super bonjwa of skill. You do the same crap as everyone else.
I’d make an engie and record some meta build gameplay, but I don’t have the time and even if I did, I wouldn’t care enough about some random person’s opinion to do it.
gg for getting this response though.
Who needs to learn sword micro when the autoattack is for a non viable stat setup.
dps is non viable as long as empatic bond exists in 30 wilderness.
I’d move it down to 10 pt tier, but then I’d also shuffle and change a lot of condi traits to prevent those builds from becomming OP.
I think the build is pretty stupid and low skill, esp because of automated response.
That being said, a warrior homepoint shuts the build down hard. And I think a dps ranger would too (if the build could kill anything else).
I agree with the guy directly above me.
“Glf 1 more healer only…”
If this happened to me, I would try to completely ruin the fight for them.
Poison field will help balance out the loss of survivability from the switch from 0-0-30-30-0 to 0-30-30-0-0 quite nicely.
We will then be able to leap weakness onto power classes, which should give perma weakness with axe and sword.
It isn’t amazing though. Just nice.
I think the OP wants this to be somewhat automated, rather than long and complex.
Does mmr change merely from win/loss or your preformace during the game?
Drakes have cleave on their autoattack. I take river for the damage on f2.
Could it be crippling lag?
Json is impossible to manage in excel. I think your best option is to have some sort of a program that pulls API data, parses it into csv, and sends it to a text file excel reads.
I’ve done it 4 times, not banned yet. Strange indeed.
In game gold though.
I’m pretty sure that Gaile means real goods and services like “mow my law for 30g” or “buy me a visa giftcard for 100g.”
There is no need for innovation to be skilled. All you need to do is evolve.
A person beats you, you steal their build and play it better. Eventually all the crap dies away and you are left with evolutionary perfection. You never had to create a build, yet you suddenly are the strongest at your class, merely by theft.
The only personal twist you need is your timings, skill choice, and map awareness.
Am I supposed to be impressed?
That works too. I have no bandwidth issues though. Thank my uni internet for that. I may change my code later, but it remains fully functional at the moment.
It makes me happy.
I don’t need spirit to beat most people 1v1.
ps – Interrupt the spirit. The cast is very predictable. Spirit out? Downed enemy? Interrupt.
All you have to do is ask the API not to compress it in your headers. Read my posted code and note the gzip header. I get the json returned with that code.
How about we have a map where we have moving shockwaves that instant kill players which can only be jumped over.
How about one where standing still makes you get hit with immobilize.
What if the points themselves were lava to discourage bunker play?
What about Pikmin style NPCs that we pluck off point and throw at enemies for damage?
What is we had to sail a boat between points and each team had an anti boat trebuchet.
How about powerups that replace your skillbar with stuff like swarmers, laser, guided missiles, gun buddies, plasma, grenades, bouncing betties, nukes and “the edge.”
Or how about we don’t and we keep this game from instant death.
The condi removal is for an ally in the line of the projectile’s fire. Not the player firing the projectile.
Correct.
I’d. Like to make my big pet hits 100% crit but that isn’t how the sigil works. My only option would be 25 in marksmanship which is non viable.
Well deserved. DC and quit is the same to the other 9 people.
More an attempt to be difficult than to provide any useful info.
