Comepare warhorn to warrior.
One has near perma vigor, swiftness, and aoe weakness.
Is the seeding done by player mmr, or by somebody choosing manually?
Actually, I realized they DO know what they are talking about.
They just envision a much more strategic game than is typically played in pickup matches.
There is some Dunning-Kruger Syndrome on these forums, in my opinion.
Please enlighten us.
My reasoning is that emphatic bond is mandatory for any effective high tier ranger build. We always have to have that 300 condi dmg, so viable builds make use of it.
Survival of the fittest was a mistake, power builds need the condi removal from the trait but cannot sacrifice the traits to bring it. Ideally it should be a grandmaster skirmishing trait. Condi builds could not make use of the trait with a practical build and power builds could have effective condi clear without losing significant damage.
I really wish people would test things before spreading information like this. Any ranger taking Healing Spring is going to have 10 seconds of the best condition removal in the game. For the next 30 seconds, however, you’re forced to play on the defensive or carefully at the very least. It’s a trade off.
Condition builds have always had the benefit of being able to build tanky while outputting the same DPS passively that power builds require active input to achieve at a much greater risk. All that said, I rarely have issues against condition builds. Conditions only become an issue for my power build when facing more than one opponent who can overload you with conditions (i.e. 2 engineers, necromancers), which most classes have a high weakness against.
Without it you WILL lose to any strong condi player 1v1 regardless of your other traits.
Healspring is our berserker stance.
Emphatic bond is our cleansing ire.

There are not many rangers high on the leaderboards in NA at least.
With the ToL2 lasting for the next two and a half months, will we be locked out of major balance changes like PAX?
I liked how one of ranger’s strengths was “sustained melee aoe dps.”
We need a system that rewards better pvp players with better items. This is one step tiwards that goal.
I’ve worked hard to get my leaderboard rank and personal skill up. What frustrates me is when I get matched with people who don’t even know the basics of how to play. My mmr should prevent me from ever seeing those people, but instead I get them every other match, which makes me pretty cranky.
Drake had very strong aoe. With a full or hybrid bm spec you can clear the minions with a well casted f2, tail whip(?), bonfire and geomancy procs.
I don’t think he really cares enough if he reposted this into spvp main…
This thread should be moved to the ranger forums.
(hehehe)
Veteran Novice is part of a grand tradition of video game naming conventions which are completely logical to a computer or in a database and complete nonsense in practice.
GW1 was great for this, with drops like ‘Fire staff of water magic’ being very common.
And on the other side you could get a ‘fiery fire staff of fire magic’. (It does fire.)
I liked the “Barbed Barbed Sword of Sword Mastery”.
Anet doesn’t have much facial hair.
The most annoying warhorn…
Remove the constant moaning and it would already be better.
Look online for sp → gold spreadsheets.
You wont find queues on more than 2 maps except on reset night. You will find 24/7 fights on all 3 servers. At worst you will have something going on in ebg and a float team for the 3 borderlands.
Do not go to the “wvw forums.” There is nothing there but a cesspool of hate and lies. There is no better way to encourage you not to transfer to t1 than visiting that website.
I use sword dagger axe torch. Leeching/geomancy.
0-0-30-20-20
Typical wilderness line
spirit traits
mighty swap/vigor on swap
Krait runes/Shaman
SoR(OR SotW) sun, stone, nature, healspring.
River drake/wolf (but wolf on top so stored state -> spawn gives you wolf, then swap to drake to blast your water field.)
This is the most effective build I have found for ranger at the moment. This is not a teamfight build though. You are stronger running past mid straight to far because you lack shortbow.
(edited by Ryan.9387)
I run a backpoint ranger in solo and team queue and I think maybe your issue is that you aren’t playing the role properly. You never sit home point. Instead you go far EVERY time it is empty and push mid when you can tell your presence will influence the fight. Your goal is to make it so that their homepoint guy can NEVER leave his point while you can leave yours.
Beat their homepoint so bad they have to send two to kill you, then your team can manage the other points 4v3. It is a little finer than what I’m getting at right now, but since you main guard I think the issue is probably just your rotations. It is when I play ele or guard.
Sucks how every redeeming thing rangers have is canned.
10 point ele trait – Vigor on crit with 5s cooldown.
10 point engie trait – Vigor on speed 5s cooldown.
Other classes are given perma vigor while ranger’s 50% boost is nerfed to 25% because “too much endurance”Haha yeah. And It’s even more comedy gold when we consider the Ranger’s 2 point trait “Primal Reflexes.” Apparently the risk for being crit isn’t as big as dealing a crit to Anet.
Primal Reflexes
Lightning Return
Vigorous swap (AOE)
Vigorous Heal (AOE)
+ passive traitRanger vigor uptime – it is far from “poor”. If anything it is very strong. However it is WAY less “passive” then other professions. We have to do something, even if it is something you would normally do, to gain vigor. We cannot just spam AA to get it.
So it makes sense that we need to trait
1) primal reflexes (5s/15)
2) vigorous swap (5s/16)
3) vigorous heal (5s/25 or 5s/30)
AND
4) Lightning reflexes (10s/40)
To get the SAME vigor uptime as ele in 10 points???
ele – 10 trait points
ranger – 40 trait points + one utility skill
It sucks when after the Ranger CDI, the following balance changes are well packaged nerfs.
Sucks that we HAVE to homepoint or farpoint all game because our teamfight tools are pitiful compared to other classes. ANY class can take their teamfight build and give a duel spec ranger a serious run for their money. Ranger teamfight consists of power or shortbow spirits, both dumpy in 1v1 and underwhelming in team fights.

It is hypocritical balancing against other classes that really just kittenes me off. Nerf spirits/pet dmg but buff turrets and mm. Flame trap vs engie, vipers nest, pet dmg, warhorn skills, sword lockdown, signets, shouts, etc… Nearly everything our class has is just a trash version of another classes skill.
Yet somehow some person manages a build that doesn’t roll over and die against teamfight specs and anet jumps in to nerf it smiter’s boon style while buffing another classes identical mechanic past the ranger’s starting point.
You are out of luck.
Try rabid shortbow if you don’t need aoe. Krait runes & condi food for 105% extra bleed duration.
From shortbow autoattack
1) Earth sigil
2) Keen edge
3) Auto attack
4) Sharpened edges
You can set up traits however you want. Something like this is what I imagine:
20-10-20-0-20
keen edge/pet condi duration
bleed on crit
survival skill reduced recharge/pet condi dmg
Pet bleed/whatever
Drop a stationary sun spirit for supplemental burning and you should be pumping nasty condi dmg out. Consider dual shortbow with doom sigils as well, as anything but your autoattack would reduce your dps.
That is the most lazy pve condi build I can think up at the moment. Make sure you have fury though. You need crits.
If it doesn’t work for you and you can’t make it work, don’t run it.
I hate spirit builds with a passion, but I run them over traps most of the time because spirits work.
Got this twice in three matches. Makes me want to solo team queue or go play other games.
I got skyhammer vs 3 engies, a fear necro, and a bunker guard.
Imagine how that went.
Plz don’t post builds or gameplay advice in this thread. These issues are not something that can be corrected by playstyle changes. They are fundamental to our class design.
Here is what I imagine for pet change:
f2 when pressed will change the f1-f4 keys to:
f1-pet skill 2
f2-pet skill 3
f3-pet skill 4
f4-back to “old” pet control menu.
Aside from that rangers really need a rework to our traitlines to support varied builds. Eles get core traits like blasting staff for 10 points. Rangers need 30, two traits, and our utility skills to use traps.
Rangers are in the dump…
You can choose the price as much as you can a gallon of gas or a can of soda. You have no market power alone there, yet the economy functions.
And please don’t bring up the speculator crap. Speculators are just like people who invest in oil prices and people too stingy to pay are the guys who bike to work or buy an electric car. They are ALL part of the supply and demand.
You look at a lvl 80 sharpening stone and say, “no way I’m paying 30s for that.” You then buy the lvl 60 version. Supply and demand.
You look at those ancient bones and say, “not buying those”. Also supply and demand…
All that is needed for the market to reach equilibrium is a method that facilitates individuals to state their price. The TP does this just fine.
Look at the toxic affect flippers had on tormented shield skins!
http://www.gw2tp.com/item/49344-tormented-shield-skin
Oh wait demand was less than supply so the price went down…
This map is the least fun I have ever had playing an online pvp game. Every time I get this map I just quit the game during or after and go play something else. It really is the worst map design I have EVER seen.
Run krait, rabid, sharpening stone trait & skill, earth sigil, and sharpened egdes trait.
1- shortbow auto
2- earth sigil
3- sharpened edges trait
4- sharpening stone
Nasty bleeds all on autoattack.
Try out condi ranger. Power is a very nasty and touchy build.
10-0-30-30-0 with shortbow and spirits or 0-10-30-0-30 for bm. Both builds can take you to the highest tier of play if you know them well.
Hopefully you feel encouraged to buy from the lowest seller and to sell to the highest buyer.
Note the host is taking commission and is making a killing off of these duels.
Pay 10% to the host to play against the most cancerous builds ever theorycrafted…
I will not and never will.
The “prestige” bs should be dropped.
If I want another legendary and I can’t buy one then I’ll buy all the components and shove the junk into the mystic forge over the course of an hour.
Then if I cared enough about “prestige” I’ll just lie and say I worked hard for it.
Seeing every nice thing we have get nerfed away.
Like dual same pets, swapping mid match, pets climbing walls, 50% endurance trait, zephyr’s speed, soth, 1200 range shortbow, shortbow attack speed, quickness nerf, etc…
All the nice things that made fun builds like traps functional have been nerfed in exchange for trash like spirits and new bm builds reliant on stacking regen to survive.
I roam with celestial traps sometimes. I do boost condis up with sigils and food though.
d/d ele and backpoint rangers stalemate if the players are equal.
Trap ranger is also not an effective build. Simple to counter. For the bm backpoint I’ll just let my pet trigger all your traps. Then I’ll kite you down while my pet kills you because you lack any sustain (heal excluded) due to your build. In that time I’ll be pumping out sotw, BM healing, and perma regen. You will live probably 15-20s if bad 30-40s if good.
It is a gimmicky build which works once a game.
Do you honestly think, i as a ranger, wouldnt hardcounter your BM build? Takes 9 seconds to melt a drake, 11 if running bears. Felines 5-6 if lucky. BM is easy ti counter, worst case ill have your swap on cd permanently. Not to mention, if using the right runes, it does not matter if traps have little cc. Truth be told, bm vs trapper, you gotta have near flawless pet and condition management. Not sayin it is impossible to win as bm, but since pets have zero removal of their own they will just die or be swapped all the time.
Yes, condi necro is better due to sustain, but the condi reflect isnt that hard to counter. Sure you can catch me by surprise, but after having fought condi mancers in wvw and pvp, iv’e learnt how to time my condition bombs accordingly.
I find it amusing how everyone think i am a complete novice to the game even though I’ve got just as much or even more time invested in this game as any other hardcore pro player. Still got more to learn about pvp, but balance wise, pvp is infinitely easier to build for then wvw is. Because whatever cheese you can make here is 20% less cheesy then any wvw build.
Pet swap is on a 16s cooldown with buffed stats and perma multiple source regen. You will not kill the pet before I can swap it. If you try you just give the other player free time to just time your emp bond and burst you with condis you can’t cleanse.
Please also drop the wvw crap. Don’t honestly tell me building +40% food and perplexity runes is “hard”. Ask youself how well the wvw guilds finished in ToL, and before you name some guild’s tpvp brach (apex) realize those are tpvp mains who later joined a team.
Please also don’t exaggerate your skill. You aren’t in the top 1k on any leaderboard, and you claim to be better than people on high ranking teams and guys who spend hours theorycrafting and dueling to get better.
(edited by Ryan.9387)
If they were added to the gemstore I’d have bought like 2. Since it’s another RNG game, no gems will be bought nor spent for this from me…
Then buy gems, convert them to gold and buy the skins on the trading post if they become available.
Has anybody who recommends this every actually done it? Because it is ridiculously expensive, ten dollars is a whopping 71 gold right now. That wouldn’t even cover the cost of most of the phoenix skins on the TP, and this is just their introductory price, they will go up. The molten alliance skins have cost between forty and sixty dollars minimum through the gold exchange ever since they went up to their full price, and apparently ANet plans on ‘retiring’ them to bring their price up more.
Sixty dollars, the cost of the game itself, for a single skin in the game. And they want it to go up.
Phoenix weapons will hit 40-50g for WTB orders.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/49335l
A ticket is around 50g
A 5 ticket skin that has been out a while is around 40*5=200 to 50*5=250. There are exceptions because 5 tickets are expensive to collect.
(edited by Ryan.9387)
If there wasn’t demand at high price levels the dusk wouldn’t sell. Still is supply and demand.
Costumes for mesmers who play pvp. Really not that crucial.
The roaming builds are coming out of spvp, where condis are extremely effective even without +40% food.
You block mobile on the video…
No view from there then!

What happrns when the good guy lists his item 1c below the lowest WTS. Will you just buy from the big bad tp trader because he lists higher price?
If you have time still I’ll get the vector image. The style is very neat!
If you run zerker you ease their passing with a quick death.
OP nailed all the main points. To be a bit more specific on them:
1) Shortbow is required for spirit ranger to prevent cleave, but is a terrible weapon for 1v1.
2) Condi cleanse changes have functioned much like power creep and has made condi sidepoint builds no longer viable on ranger. Nerfs to sustain have solidified this.
3) Rampant boon strip/stealing make rampage as one hurtful for power rangers to bring to a fight.
4) The traitlines for builds like traps are appalling, and even traited versions underperform compared to other classes (e.g. engie). Changes to these builds have been comedic, rather than useful. (Poision field lasts 1.5s, too short to combo sword 2 through)
It is sickening that I’ve had to reroll another class just to be viable because of consistent dlnerfs to ranger and power creep for other classes.
