Something like league of legends. Like hold a button over the map and you get a commo rose with stuff like “on my way” “help me” “go here” etc.
I hope you understand. It’s “company policy”.
Spirit builds are the strongest option for pvp at the moment, but the majority run longbow greatsword builds for whatever reason.
@colin
maby you should than not make a blogpost with things you will give us this year BUT
a blogpost with things you work on
i guess people would be happy to read things like: we work on housing but far from release, we have 3 dungeons in beta status, we had to restart work on precursor crafting and its back to alpha status ………
something like this
That would also break the company policy of what we’re allowed to discuss in regards of what is in development
Though I wonder if we went a little more broad and kept a rolling “top categorical issues” the community team communicated or owned that summarizing high level things the development team is aware of and might or might not be working on, but see’s as core fundamental issues to address, and players just had constant brainstorm threads on those topics – if it’d at least get us halfway there.
What is the reasoning behind the company policy to talk about things only when they are nearly finished.

6 shared anguish – oakheart salve – emp bond
4 spirit traits
4 might on swap – vigor on swap
Settlers or Apothecary with Bathazar runes
S/d a/t with leeching and geomancy sigils
Wolf + Drake
Healspring (friends can blast or leap through it)(you can too with sword 2 and drake tailswipe)
Sotw/Soth/Sor (Sustain/Movespeed/Remove condis from teamates)
Sun Spirit
Stone Spirit
Spirit Elite
This will serve you well if you like spirit builds. If you will not run spirits for whatever reason try a sotf build with 2-0-6-6-0 or a 2-0-6-0-6 BM condi chill build.
I’d like if more anet staff took the approach John Smith does on the TP section.
….But once you scale down to spvp or wvw roaming….
once you scale down to spvp or wvw roaming…..
you’re no longer actually playing Guildwars2.You’re playing a stupid minigame that most of the people who rolled Rangers were not interested in. If they were, then you’d see just as many of them doing it as you see Thieves & Eles in that role. Representation matters here, Pal. If something is too ineffective or too much of a PITA to do, people will use the easier method (IE: War / guardian / Mes for all the other actual content that Guildwars2 is actually known for)
The ones who didn’t roll a different class for it? …. rolled a different game.
…like Mobas. Players who had their hearts set on playing ranger, play those 5v5’s instead
Who are you?
Good way to make annoying people leave a private server. Get guys on both teams to keep him downed until he quits.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko_rating_system
Your personal performance does not matter to the algorithm. 10 kill loss = 0 kill loss. Your rating is determined by win/loss vs team mmr averages.
The exact numbers anet uses are unknown.
If I took Josre, zoose, wakkey, and cmc as a sample one might think ele is super OP.
Your experience playing casually has little use when comparing balance that matters most at high level play. Only at the point where a player’s personal skill can no longer improve does balance have effects that can not be overcome by playing better.
If we buff ele you go to a bit over 50% win/loss.
Where does Josre and his 63% win/loss in solo queue over 1900 games go?
A week ago people said it was too cheap…
Ranger is going to be dirty in pvp. People will surely start whining hard.
I decided early on that I would rather play 1 class to perfection than many to mediocrity. I picked ranger and have stuck with it since.
TIL rangers are OP.
(Or you need to play better)
The ecto rate has not been modified.
History tells us that until you go and test this, you can be wrong on this statement. Did you run actual salvage tests to confirm this statement?
I would think looking at the code is enough.
Balancing consists of the following steps:
1. Collect Data.
2. Review Data to see if Balancing is required.
3. If required, propose solutions.
4. Determine if solutions meet your goals, are realistic, and do not significantly impact other areas of the game.
5. Select a solution.
6. Develop the solution.
7. Test the solution.
8. Revise the solution if anything comes up during testing.
9. Test again if revisions are made.
10. Repeat 8-9 as needed.
11. Release Balancing changes.Start over at step 1.
They can skip steps 1 and 2 in some cases by playing the game and seeing what creates unhealthy play patterns ie. player can’t react because there is no way to avoid something/they don’t have enough information. This goes for most cases, they are (hopefully) professionals at this. Another thing is listening to feedback and looking graphs if they got them, sure
Step 3 only occurs if there is something detected so it’s fairly obvious
Step 4 is the reason why PvE and PvP should be balanced differently. There is absolutely no need to lift your hands up in the air and say you can’t do something because it would affect another aspect of the game if those aspects are easily separated
I doubt the existence of 6-10 even existing in most cases. A lot of the changes aren’t too well thought out and we don’t have a public beta testing going on where they could even gather the data required for revisioning the changes. Most of the changes are numerical anyway and not new mechanics so the ‘development’ doesn’t actually take timeIt sure as hell doesn’t take 6 months to figure out 5% tweaks to skill damages. I do appreciate the big changes WHEN we get them but as for balance updates, they don’t really help the balance much at all. The patches are too infrequent and the balance will be skewed in some other direction in just a few weeks at best, causing the game to be pretty much dead and stagnated when it comes to innovation for more than 90% of the time
And this is why you are not in charge of balancing any type of content for any game.
Step 1 is the single most important step in the chain. Without it you are literally just making dumb guesses. You may as well spin the “wheel-o-nerf” to make all of your decisions.
Did you read the guys posts?
You can skip “in some cases by playing the game”.
This is not random balance. Its based on firsthand experience by devs, some who play at a very high level. Their data collection is the hundreds of games they have played in pvp and the resulting trends they experience. E.g. class x wins too much or class y is not fun to play against.
No matter what the reason you still cause a 4v5 and ruin the match for 9 other people. You get 3 chances before the debuff.
In pvp zerker will become viable for midfight builds and thief-like decaps. Zerker will still get beat by any strong side node build (ele/turret/condi anything).
Ask the chinese team how NA and EU have been influencing the meta.
RaO makes you vulnerable to thieves/mesmers/necros so it is kind of situational. Entangle will be great with things like drake f2s, on elite runes (lyssa/krait/ect), and bm builds and will be more effective generally.
Things will get really scary with stuff like drake f2+entangle+properly timed sic’em+fortifying bond. 1.6k-2k+ hits x5.
Please remove this map from solo queue.
Please give turrets the smiter’s boon treatment. Builds like this have no place in a pvp environment.
Shortbow is the cheesy part of spirit ranger.
Go s/d a/t or s/t a/d.
The card game war.
Matches take long and are determined by rng.
Quilja was able to top the solo queue leaderboards with dps guard so the build is probably not the reason.
I’d imagine that an issue could be how you play the dps guard. All the builds you listed up top are all very strong 1v1 builds, so I could see a player like you pushing far/taking home with the guard. Your playstyle has to be completely different with a dps guard. You teamfight, cleave, and +1 fights on side nodes, not go for 1v1s.
Not that hard to find if you care to take 4 min to look (or think).
Yeah, we are all lazy or stupid, right Ryan?
Or did I misunderstand your comment?
Please don’t derail the thread.
Look = check the leaderboards.
Think = who is really good at x (streamer/forums/gameplay) that plays a certain class.
I prefer people to make an effort to validate their clams before they post misleading information.
There are 27 people in the top 100 with win rates above 60% and over 100 wins. Without knowing classes it is safe to assume that the majority of the 8 classes will be represented in that group.
(edited by Ryan.9387)
Warrior – Tarcis
Guardian – Quilja
Ele – Josre
Mesmer – Helseth
Necro – Noscoc
Ranger – Me
Theif – Avi
Engie – Butanide
Not that hard to find if you care to take 4 min to look (or think).
There are loads more off the top of my head. Caed, cmc, woodstock, jtan, terp etc…
(edited by Ryan.9387)
Any class can work if you play the right builds well. Every class is represented by at least one player who can manage a 60%+ win rate over hundreds of games.
I do not. On my phone right now.
Yeah. It was a pretty intense qualifier too.
You have a 44% change to be 4v5 and a 56% chance to be 5v4.
Jack up your magic find and farm t6 mats.
Coldtart, how much damage do you think a glassbow ranger can churn out?
Also, one good burst? well yes, techincally rangers got 4 bursts… Feline F2, Bird F2, Maul and Path of Scars. There is no other skills that even remotely classifies as “burst”
Drake f2.
Well what I would do:
- critical damage to marksmanship and condition duration to skirmishing
-combine agility training with pet prowess into a single trait and move it to the master level
-move quick draw to adept level
-carnivorous appetite affects ranger as well. ICD of 1 second
-new minor trait “random cool name”- convert 1 condition into a boon on weapon swap (ICD 9 seconds)
-opening strike refreshes on weapon swap as well. Pet opening strike refreshes on Pet swap as well. There, i fixed it :p
That carnivorous appetite under 1s ICD would be a bit OP, 3~5s sounds more reasonable.
Everything else would be just amazing.
Since it is reliant on crit the ranger has to spec zerker/rabid/knights to benefit from it. Those amulets don’t have much sustain anyway so the change really isn’t that OP.
Regen heals for more with a settler’s amulet.
Tbh that seems to be somewhat of a personal hate against turret engies.
They are very good at 1v1, can tank 1v2, and can provide a lot of utility in team fights from the reflect bubbles. They are one of the best general counters I’ve seen to lich form and a wide variety of ranged ledgers (e.g. eura ranger).
The fact that no ranger build is listed as “meta” or “great” also brings your ranking system into question. These builds should be ranked against others from the same class, not against the other classes. There IS a meta ranger build and there are great ones relative to ranger builds.
200% crit chance.
Sounds like major overkill to me.
Please remove this map from solo queue (and the game).
These games are NOT FUN TO PLAY.
Because this is super high skill play.
I would rather just instantly lose and queue again than play this map.
Axe autoattack will give 16s of might to your pet per bounce with strength runes + fortifying bond assuming that change makes it through the next balance patch. I wanted to test out the synergy between strength runes and fortifying bond so I built up typical spirit build with the condi rune/sigils swapped out for strength/battle.
This is built for this patch only.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAsY3fnMqQrg2sC+qAXLGAToaPALbA8cUTVnbwHkxPnM7B-TJRIwAMLDA4kAE4JAgZ/BA
Some condi damage (balthazar-> strength+ geomancy -> battle) is lost in favor of 15-25 stacks of might for your pet.
The build works by abusing fortifying bond + strength runes. A few actions will result in huge might stacks for your pet and long duration might for the player.
ex. (for pet)
1) pet swap – 3 stacks (19s+)
2) stalker f2 – 10 stacks (15s+)
3) weapons swap – 3 stacks (16s+)
+strength runes, sword AA, and assorted random boons from allies
I have found this is stronger than current spirit builds against low armor builds (meditation guard/ele/some engies), slightly better against warrior, and slightly worse against thief.
Post patch the might will be pumped out by your axe autoattack. Stalker will be swapped with a canine, battle sigils could then be swapped out, and RaO could be traded for the new entangle.

Don’t use ranger if you want to be a bunker.
If all they wanted was the player not to die we can do a half decent job. S/d x2, adventure runes, energy sigils, perma vigor, etc.
Dps is effectively zero though.
Read the Wind will not be a direct damage buff. Sure you will, theoretically, do 10% more damage, however Predators Onslaught adds another 5% to pet (remember, that furball is like 30% of your DPS, so whatever bonuses you sink into the pet matters, a lot)… So while RtW is 10% total boost, PO is 15%….
And with the extreme ease of maintaining cripple through barrage, its a no-brainer why you should take PO in PvE atleast. In PvP, RtW all the way.
Theorycrafting ftl. Wish we could jump on a test server and blow up some golems.
Taking into account the pet is 30% of your damage, the actual damage bonus provided by PO would be the weighted average of the two bonuses, not the sum. 10% Hero + 5% Pet = 8.5% total, not 15%.
Taking a 10% attack speed bonus would be a multiplier bonus on any other +dmg’s, rather than additive, so even if they are both “10%”, attack speed will have a bigger impact than a simple +dmg.
Thank you for being correct with your math. You saved me some time.
Every team comp below 43% has a ranger…
But add ONE MESMER and and 70%!!!
Hip hop and edm.
At some point it would be nice not to be the liability on my team.
i have a anti virus and run scans. nothing popped up. looking back i now suspect the breach happened at a hospital.
Youch, public wifi. Personally, I never do anything that requires any type of login or transaction via a public wifi. Too many unknowns and hazards.
Could use a vpn.
Anet “buffed” the skill with a 1.5s field. Nobody uses it because it was poorly designed.
Check your computer for malware.
I’d like if you took a great player from each class and dueled them with commentary about your decisions during (or after) the fight.
