Power ranger probably won´t have the damage or sustainhealing to be viable (on eu) unless you go zerker and actually deal heavy damage, but then thieves take you out of the game as they do with all other zerker classes.
Not with 12 seconds of immunity!!!
Also BM builds. Think gw1 onslaught dervs.
Well after 5,022 hours on ranger and this is all ranger gets?
Rly? Apart from all these changes being pretty sweet, there are quite a number of them too. Don’t be so negative. I think this opens up some build variety. There are a lot of possibilities if you look past the longbow changes.
Yay you zerg runners will finally be able to sit in your zergs and be helpful. It doesnt change anything for spvp ranger. They will still get destroyed. This isnt anything to celebrate. Wait till all the other class buffs and changes come out and ranger will be right back in its useless spot.
I think you’re very confused.
Eh show me a ranger being viable in spvp with longbow or gs and i might change my mind =D
Hi, My name is Eurantien.
To be fair, I don’t think anyone would place glass/power Ranger as a top meta build w/ any weapon set. That being said, still a fun build that can do fairly well when in capable hands (just like any build in this game technically).
I don’t consider them viable yet, but if these changes go through I can see them being vey scary in pvp. We will have rangers loaded up with very high ranged damage and and soft cc.
Condi is getting a minor buff, but probably will be passed over for LB/GS.
I’m really excited for these changes.
Think signet of stone on read the wind builds. This will make power ranger very dangerous.
I’m excited, now to wait until september.

Just seeing this amazing art makes me dream of how anet could bring Cantha to life.
Wait for them to say the balance changes will happen after the end of tol2.
Luck becomes irrelevant with a high enough game count, leaving the only common factor between all games the individual player. Provided the player is never responsible for his team’s loss (i.e. he is very good) then there is a 44% chance that the player’s team will lose the game and a 56% chance they will win. This is because there are 4 potential bad players on the first team and 5 potential bad players on the second. Sometimes players are good enough that they can overcome the bad players’ impact and win the game, resulting in win loss ratios above 56%.
Over time the player will climb the leaderboard to the point where he becomes responsible for his team’s loss enough to where the player will settle at a 50% win/loss ratio.
The reason you see players high on the leaderboards with win loss ratios above 50% (and high game counts) is because there are no players with a high enough skill to provide a matchup where the player can be responsible for their team’s loss.
Of course games match wins are decided in a subtler way than a single losing player per match.
It is alright to see an eviscerate from a human.
It is very hard to see an eviscerate from an asura.
Berserker (2 sets)
Soldier
Knights
Rampagers
Rabid
Settlers/Apothecary
Celestial
You can make it work but it will fall off at high mmr.
I’m not sure a duel between a theif and a ranger with 20 times (2000 vs 100) the tpvp wins constitutes a definitive result on power rangers’ viability.
In the end, it’s hard to do damage when you’re dead. You won’t be dead at 1500 range.
Don’t presume that the person playing spirit ranger doesn’t have the ability to play intelligently. They can shortbow from 900 range to keep spirits out of aoe, interrupt skills just like lb4, and can evade cc and attacks.
Your build is fully reliant on having a team act as a meat shield for you, coming to cc and chain any player trying to reach you. Power exists the enire match just an instant away from having a very bad time. One theif steal, one warrior evis, one signet of spite, or even a single mesmer pull off a ledge will result in near instant death.
Power cannot 1v1 a single meta build from any class against a skilled player. Your build is a liability in small scale fights, as you lack the sustain to take more than a single condi or power burst. All those disadvantages are brought in order to have a build that is mediocre at best in a coordinated team fight.
I want to run builds like gs/lb but they just don’t work. They are selfish builds that don’t provide enough to warrant their use. I’ve played power vs friends in duels for a good amount of time as well as on an alt and I very quickly noticed that while I may win early on, the moment my opponent figures out my toolkit I will be hard pressed even to survive.

A power necro is stronger than power ranger with ranged aoe and sustain. Thieves can disengage with reliable stealth when under pressure. Mesmer provides boonstrip, strong cc, and useful team utility.
Power ranger does mediocre dps with limited sustain and no reliable utility. There is no reason to take a lb/gs over the glass equivalent of any other class. A shortbow spirit ranger will likely out dps a power ranger through bleed procs and burn provided by sun spirit, all while having an extremely strong set of core traits and team utility.
i love how one of the highest RANKED ranger players say “the build works” and everyone just ignores him and instantly declare the build rubbish even though they arent even close to his rank or experience.
Yeah, rank apparently doesnt matter. If noobs cannot play it, it is rubbish. Not hard to play, just “unviable” and rubbish.
ah…. gotta say them words that made me famous now…
People, it’s a L2P Issue, deal with it. If you fail with LB/GS, it is a user error, not a build error. You simply got out-played.
Frankly, your experience as a ranger is based off of WvW, a game mode that is hardly relevant to tPvP. Telling people that this is a l2p issue or that power is viable is misinforming other players.
It would take all of 3-4 seconds for a mesmer and thief to 100→0 his LB/GS build (6-6-x-x-x berserker amulet). There is a real reason why Eurantien is the only prevalent power ranger in NA, and it isn’t because the rest of us are build hipsters.
Be happy you are getting r10 as the floor.

GS is not viable except on skyhammer, where longbow 4 makes the whole build barely viable.
Ranger is definitely not bottom tier. Mesmer + Necro are bottom tier at the moment, but of course you will disagree because they are both “op”.
Necro is very good, noscoc is a clear example of that.
Mesmer is also strong provided the player has a decent team to back them up. Plenty of top teams use them for their unique tools.
I will ask for anet to refund my gw2 if they go pay to win.
When I see a ranger I rush far point to duel them. Usually they wind up being those players running whack builds like sotf traps.
Some players care more about their game than their image.
The only way you hear of them is when some popular person talks about them.

North American Candidates:
As you can see, the Mesmer is non-existent in the competitive scene for N/A Candidates, and only two out of the whole list of players from EU chose the Mesmer profession.
Balance?! That’s really something to seriously think about, right Josh?
The current Meta is like Warriors 120% – Guardians 110% – Ele – and more Ele? and then followed by Thief – Necromancer, Ranger/Engineer…
Where do Mesmer stand today? A sidekick? An Utility bot? Are we really a trash tier class like some have already commented about the Mesmer?
Less nerfs, and more buffs please to bring the balance in line.
The data represented here truly speaks for the Meta in competitive game play today.
Competitive players are NOT stupid. They chose to play certain profession utilizing certain builds with respective itemization and gearing for a reason and ONE reason only: To seal the victory
A pro competitive player has to go through the mindset of deciding what is the opportunity cost of bringing this profession over the others.
#1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of choosing the Mesmer in a competitive tournament?
#2. How much loss does the team has to bear in bringing a Mesmer on the team?
#3. How crucial is the role of Mesmer over the other 7 professions in a competitive tournament?
#4. How much of a difference CAN a Mesmer make in turning the tide for the team to seal its victory? How about Guardians? (I deliberately ask for comparison to the role of Guardian in this specific question for a reason…)
We have our “answers” clear as day from the lists of candidates.
How do Mesmer players view such an event and realizing that we have very limited choices of candidates to give our support? I am on N/A, and I suppose I will give my support to the two EU candidates representing the Mesmer? or should I give support to every other professions other than my own on the N/A? Does the Developers not seeing and understand the whole issue here?
2 mesmers total.
1 ranger total. You have 100% more representation than ranger.
I want people to die Game of Thrones style.
Report for botting.
Did you just brute force gw2 words to find this?
Wtb new bracket(s)!
He used them in the 2nd though!
I don’t know the EU players personally so I voted for people who didn’t sound like total pricks. Pretty much “does this person brag about how good they are? If no, I voted for them.”
And two hounds of balthazar.
This a great idea. It would also help single server guilds recruit.
It is a website…
Games should never start 4v5.
EU Q1 Brackets now available
@post above mine.
If your are NA go Sos. If you are ocx/sea/eu go to t1.
5 NA eles and not one ranger…
What is your team’s bracket and name?
Balance changes since april 15th:
-Rune of strength bonus 7% → 5%
-Misc bug fixes
A move up is a change to a whole new class of wvw. 24/7 fights, presence on every map, used teamspeak servers and more. Anyone who plays wvw deserves to experience it in kitten.
Getting help is understood due to the transfer costs. Blame the playerbase for that, which would rather have server loyalty than good fights.
Because anet said so.
Turrets are too prone to being countercomped. Sure you can kill my ranger when your drop crate, but I’ll swap to d/d ele or staff ele and make your turrets sad.
At this point the dev reply will be a moderator closing the thread.
Warhorn, sword 2, gs 3. 3 finishers in that healspring for 4.5k-5k.
There is no ignorance in those players not wanting a deaf person on their team. I’m not deaf so I wont pretend to understand.
I cannot have 4 people who are in ts and 1 that is not. I will talk to the person who isn’t there by accident and will waste finger time by typing to the one guy not in ts. It will result in poor communication and poor play as a result. A good example of that would be the game I played with 2 english speakers, 2 spanish speakers, and 1 bilingual guy who had to interpret during the game. (It went poorly).
Add in pet heal on f2 skills with fern hound and another dog. Extra 2-3k hp.
How about ya jump on gw2 there and actually show me that you know what exactly you are talking about because ive seen plenty of your type on the forums. You tell everyone else how they should be playing ranger and are not even a good ranger yourself. It would be like me telling people how to play warrior when i don’t play warrior myself. So please show me that you can actually do what your promoting on these forums then i might actually take you a bit serious.
Who are you?
Except, under your estimate, every player deals with that 90 percent, so it becomes a statistical wash over time. The only changing variable is that 10 percent slotted to player skill. That’s why good players rise to the top, while bad ones don’t.
Couldn’t say it better myself.
1) Leave the losing team to spectate.
2) Wait for autobalance to even the teams.
3) Rejoin the losing team.
Birds are pretty dysfunctional. I advise against them.
Your argument is poorly written and is really hard to understand Ragner. Nobody will respect anything you say if you can’t put periods and capital letters into your post. It makes people just kind of scroll right past everything you say rather than piece out that text.
On a side note:
You should win vs hambows and either stalemate or win vs d/d eles if you play a viable build for side nodes. Yes you have to be better than them because the playstyle demands it. Your skill cap is far above theirs.
I’m new to the forums but have played ranger for a long time and just noticed this thread.
For me the most influential rangers I’ve had the chance to meet are Sol and Tanbin both have been on Maguuma for a long time and are 2 of the best rangers I’ve ever seen. I don’t think Sol plays at all anymore but Tanbin still does. For straight sPvP inspiration I’d have to say Vyndetta/Tany , these 2 rangers are really really good in sPvP and was always fun watching them play.
Vyndetta and Tany never really struck me as inspirational/influential players. It has been over 4 months since I last played vs Vyndetta and Tany never stuck out. They are good players though. I just have never seen them post actively, or reach out to the community.
People don’t get 60%+ win loss ratios by accident after a hundred plus games. It isn’t accident top players have the top spots (for the most part).
