Playing world 2 level 1 for the bauble and hidden room achievement at the moment and overall it’s quite fun – but having real difficulty with the ascent up the rapids to the hidden hillybilly cave where the last jump on the rapids seems very random. Same positioning, same leap and 95% of the time its just instant death – most frustrating.

A tiny bit more leeway on the rapids jumps looks like it would improve things greatly.

Works best if you jump and then move towards the last rock. Least that’s what I found. Anytime I tried moving towards the rock to get momentum for the jump I’d get caught in the rapids and in most cases subsequently launched out of the cave.

Easier way is to instead not aim for there, but aim straight ahead towards the little rock right next to the mushroom. You’ll either get launched onto the raised platform nearby, or not move at all, giving you enough time to jump on said little rock.

Seeing as most people here are unable to comprehend what I am asking for, or even why a completionist would feel compelled to complete all dailies, I will stop responding to this thread.

I hope Anet is already aware of the issue and will eventually fix it.

I’m a completionist, and there’s a difference between a mild case of OCD and a severe case that can cause real life problems. They have a severe case, and they need to learn NOT to OCD on every little thing (trust me, I learned to do that when I attempted to 100% Star Ocean: Till the End of Time).

EDIT: Okay, having listened to the entire thing, you’ve made a very good points. The need for us to have more control over our pets. This would not only make it easier to balance the Ranger class easier, this would also fix quite a lot of our problems across all 3 fields, due to our ability to micromanage the pet and at least keep it working effectively.

5 Reasonable Ranger Changes

  1. Reverse the vulnerability change on GS#2, it just doesn’t make sense, and the bleed was nice.
  2. Introduce a better pet UI where we can see boons/conditions
  3. Introduce an advanced pet control system so people who take rangers seriously (I’m sure there is at least one) can have control over our forced mechanic.
  4. Give blast finisher to GS#2 so rangers can contribute more in zergs
  5. Introduce a better mechanic for pig F2, where it works like thief steal, or at least the foraged item spawns in your hand, with an option to drop it to the ground.

Actually, the vulnerability on maul makes perfect sense if you think about it. You’re swinging your sword down with all your might. That’s enough power to break a few bones and armor.

Evasive Purity only drops Poison and Blind. Empathic Bond, as you put down, requires your pet to be alive, but gimps it due to the conditions (and will probably kill it). Both have an ICD of 10 seconds. Within those 10 seconds you can do redo the conditions (depending on class and build) or kill off the pet entirely, which leaves them with only getting rid of poison and blind.

You’re a fool if you think I mean just poison. If you’re popping that due to conditions, then you’ve at least got several stacks of bleed, poison, confusion/torment, and possibly burning on you. You don’t pop it for something as stupid as a single bit of poison.

That’s assuming you’re not getting hit hard, which in most cases if you’ve popped that heal, you’re being hit hard, either with DD that you’re trying to dodge, or conditions you’re trying to outlast.

So I 1v1 a ranger in WvW yesterday and had to google how the heck this guy was disappearing every ~15 seconds. He won and let me tell you that crap is incredibly annoying for anyone who isn’t using a lot of DOT damage.

If you find that annoying, I wonder if you ever tried fighting a Thief who can go into indefinite stealth-mode whenever they want.

Ranger just has a “poor man’s stealth” on his Longbow which is more like a gimmick and not something that should cause you to lose a 1v1. Unless you were playing a character without any ranged weapon and the Ranger was kiting you around at 1500 range.

It would be silly if anybody wasn’t using a ranged weapon in this game. You need a close range and a long range weapon to really keep yourself safe in WvW. Even in dungeons it’s a smart move to keep a long range weapon on you at all times, since you never know when you’re going to have to kite enemies because somebody died.

Or you’re a you know, D/D ele or a guardian who tend to be locked into Melee, or a thief whose ranged option doesn’t even touch you if you’re kiting at 1500…

But hey, that’s why those guys have some sexy gap closers!

class identification is silly anyway. why run a subpar class for dungeons if Ranger is weak there?

i don’t pve at all but in pvp if you run a class that creates a bad matchup you’re a liability to the team. why is that any different in any other game mode? its just common sense

Which is why the blanket nerf for spirits across all 3 modes hit us while we were down. It’s like nerfing something in PvE for warriors and having it hit them in PvP as well. It’s stupid, and doesn’t help the class at all.

Ranger QQ is so embarrassingly bad. Wilderness Survival and how many condis rangers stack with Shaman Amulet is so strong 1v1 is hilarious with all that utility and endurance.

Seriously dude… that class is never going to be on the bench. Ever.

Complaining about the change to the spirit ranger build in PvP is silly…but for PvE (meaning dungeons and fractals), the complaining is HORRIBLY valid.

I have to say that I do like the new world for SAB, but Zones 2 and 3 have serious problems with pacing, at least in terms of how long it is since the last checkpoint, which Zone 3 is horribly notorious for near the end. The difficulty makes me think of Alundra, where it was challenging, and winning made you feel so good, so I do like the challenge. I did love that Wizard fight btw, though it took me and my friend a while to figure out that you could slash him while he’s running at you during the first form.

Spirit needs buff

Come try out the elementalist.

To have spirits up almost all the time, even after someone kills them was over the top.

Elementalist do not have spirits.

And you are wrong. If a enemy kills spirits after they are up, they will be defenseless for 50 seconds. Pity that an elementalist did not know this weakness.

That was pre-patch. Now you’ll have a 25 second cooldown.

World 2 is too brutal. I spent 5 continue coins on Zone 1 alone, and they were all spent due to the rapids alone. Those geysers didn’t help too much either. -_-

Agree here. I’m finding Zone 1 to be just so unforgivable that I’m actually getting really angry. I NEVER get this angry on Jumping Puzzles. This is too kitten hard with the bugs.

Search and Rescue sucks because Anet ‘booned’ (see Smiter’s Boon) it. It used to be able to revive dead allies, NPCs, etc. They took it out because it allowed people to skip through dungeons somehow…which would have been easier to deal with if they just made it so it can’t revive NPCs. -_-

Just checking, but you do know you’re saying “stop complaining 40% of our DPS is gone in those fights and just accept it!” Right?

With open-world region bosses like Tequatl, yes, you should expect your pet to die. But in a dungeon when there is far less scaling going on, no, our pets really shouldn’t be that squishy. Difference between our pets dying to an event scaling for 60+ players and our pets dying to something scaled for just 5.

As someone who was fortunate enough to try the new Tequatl encounter yesterday, I found it exhilarating and a lot of fun. I greatly look forward to seeing it on live and brainstorming strategies with my servermates on how to bring him down.

There’s a bunch of things to keep in mind about what you saw on the livestream. The developer intervention seemed to be only just enough to progress the event along so they could show the whole event off for the live stream. There were only 20 players playing during the live stream at any given time (60 total split among three groups of 20). We did also have developers and alpha testers participating on the back end as well. But I’m willing to bet we didn’t have near the 80+ players they said we’d need to successfully complete the event.

Also, we were playing with a bunch of people we had never played with before and playing mechanics we had never encountered before. And a lot of us didn’t even have time to digest the new mechanics and take advantage of LFG tool before we had to jump into the fray.

Another thing to keep in mind we were dumped onto pre-generated characters and many of us were playing unfamiliar builds. Most folks barely had a chance to swap out to different weapon sets. And all the pre-made characters were on accounts with keybinds set to default, which very much felt like playing with your hands tied behind your back if you rely heavily on customized keybinds.

What you saw on the livestream was a lot rougher than what we’ll likely see on live due to all these factors. I’m sure once it goes live and we’re playing on builds we’re familiar with, playing with our own keybinds, and actually have some level of coordination (especially when folks take more advantage of the new LFG tool), things will go a LOT smoother.

I’ve personally experienced encounters that required the same level of coordination and strategy in City of Heroes (the Hamidon Raid revamp). The COH community banded together and came up with strategies to bring the Hami down regularly and reliably. And in doing so, we bonded and our server communities became incredibly tight-knit as a result of the experience.

Don’t fret! I’m confident that our GW2 community will totally be able to come up with some strategies to bring Tequatl down! We can do it!

I’d prefer a pet ‘level’ system, tyvm, with the pet gaining exp as long as he’s in battle with you. The pet has a level cap of 5, each equal to about 2 character levels. As the pet levels up, it gains its own series of ‘traits’ you can turn on, more skills, and more AI for your to have control over. For example, a jaguar could get a trait that allows it to share its stealth with the Ranger, a skill that knocks down an enemy before starting to bite at it 3-4 times which causes bleeding and large damage with each hit, and will give you control over which skill it will use with the F2.

Leveling from 1-80 will be quite fun as a Ranger, I guarantee that. But do NOT get fooled into thinking you can just stand in one spot and have the pet tank everything. It’s a trap to lure you into feeling safe until the game throws something at you that you need to dodge and use skill to survive in (for most Rangers, that seems to be Claw Island for the Personal Story). A good way to help with this is to keep one melee weapon as a weapon set once you hit level 7 at all times. Because you’re in melee range for that set, you’ll start to get used to the tells on when to dodge, and when to use which skill to make surviving easier rather fast.

Just remember, while we’re a very easy class to level in open world PvE, the ‘skill’ cap for the player yourself is higher for dungeons and instances due to our pets being borderline useless in many a boss fight for those.

Theyre stealthed, not invincible. Just learn to counter it…

Thieves without stealth is like a mesmer without illusions.

He’s referring to downed state stomping. If you’re downed, and we’re acting like all 3 of the downed skills other than bandage are available and fully charged, stealth nullifies downed state defenses only for Rangers.

However if we’re not including the #3 being fully charged, then it nullifies downed state defenses for Ranger, Engineer, I think Necromancer (can’t remember if the #2 is direct target or not), and Warriors. Meaning that’s half of the classes unable to fight back or get away from the stealth stomp.

Lol I was being kind of sarcastic; ayden’s a big boy, I’m sure he can handle it. Those are things we can all learn from, really, Kasama. Thanks for all the wisdom. Honestly, if you filmed me, I’m sure I would make the same mistakes.

You’re not the first to think I’m harsh, when it comes to writing. So I wasn’t sure that you were being sarcastic =)

Well no one is perfect, I make mistakes when playing as well. But when you put up a video, and suggests someone to see it, you should be sure that what you show, is your best play possible.

But mostly, I just don’t understand why anyone would run into the middle of a zerg, as a Ranger. It seems like you have missed the point of the professions then. Kinda like taking a Thief, and using him as point defender in sPvP. It wouldn’t really work. You have to play to the professions strengths, or ells you’re going to have a tough time, and miss the advantage of the profession.

If you’re a trap ranger and using a longbow, you can pull this off, albeit you’ll need swiftness beforehand…and SOME luck. Use LB#3, run into the zerg, pop a Quickening Zephyr, toss down Flame Trap and Frost Trap, dodgeroll out back into the ally zerg, put down a healing spring. Grats, you’ve annoyed the enemy with 2 of the more annoying conditions and you’ve created a healing field for your allies to exploit.

I wouldn’t call GS bad on a Mesmer. #1 does DECENT regular attack damage. #2 ricochets, summons a clone, and grants might to your guys and vulnerability to the enemy. #3 removes a boon in a small AoE. #4 summons a Phantasmal Berserker which hits REALLY hard and is a pretty big source of damage if you’re ranging. #5 will launch any enemy in front of you away.

It’s a good weapon, but I don’t suggest keeping it on all the time. Just use it for the #3 when needed, #4, and the #2 for an extra clone.

Time Gating Is -> NOT FUN

I believe the reason why they time-gated it is because with the exception of the ascended weapons themselves, EVERYTHING ELSE NEW CAN BE SOLD ON THE TP FOR LARGE QUANTITIES OF CASH. They most likely want to avoid the prices of everything being super super high and certain players making a killing to the point where the rich are super rich and the people buying the stuff become super poor. Plus it would stimulate the prices on the lower level crafting things necessary to make these said T7 mats.

I like to be good in Pvp and Pve. Dungeons arent important for me.

We faceroll all PvE content save for dungeons, region bosses, and the Temples of Orr (which all require teams, which we tend to suck in). PvP…as a warning, PvP is only really capture mode (which sucks), so while you WILL do well in it due to the Ranger’s bunkery nature, the mode will get boring fast.

Didn’t the winning team only have 1 ranger? And didn’t the winning team’s warrior shut down the other rangers the whole match? Why are we still talking about spirit rangers?

Was lurking, but the answer is because spirit rangers are the newest “we must nerf this no matter what!” QQ-magnet PvP has seen. The community around PvP is the one thing that makes PvP near impossible to joy. “You beat my build, yours is either OP or you were cheating!” is the common mindset I’ve seen here.

Silly Ayden, we bring the most important thing when it comes to soloing camps for our country…survivability. Not to mention we’re one of the best classes to protect a tower/keep during siege when there are enemies down below.
