We play the same game?

Yes and no. It’s like all the people who complained about wvw kills I the monthly. Being a wvw player that was the easiest part for me to finish and had no complaint about it, but I’m not a fan of the dungeons not just this game just in general I’m not really a scripted pve player.

That’s why I’m a fan of multiple paths to completion and hope it comes out soon. I understand pve players don’t want to do wvw and honestly I want them in wvw as much as they want me in a dungeon.

I love the Thief is easy to kill posts, clearly the problem is lack of skill by every other class besides the thief.

No it’s not a lack of skill with other classes a lot of people on other classes have no problem fighting thief. No what most of the people here are saying is the problems sits between the chair and the keyboard.

I notice you’re a Guardian and a Thief.

And a Necro but he isn’t 80 yet. Why a necro? So i can prove to people that it has nothing to do with my class. Played Guard, Guard called op, Moved to Thief (s/d-SB) now Thief called op. Had people in my guild say I was good at WvW becuase my classes are ez-mode, looked around found engi,ranger and necro considered the weak classes so I rolled up necro.

Double the Vuln stacks and duration on axe one would help a lot, 10 secs on Vuln brings it In Line with our other Vuln attacks and doubling it would stack it faster and make the auto attack do atleast passable damage.

1) get event team to step it up a notch, there are still event draughts well leveling that can make the game feel empty.

2) fix bugged skills, then go back and start meaningful class balance to help out classes that have little diversity in how they have to build.

3) make weapon and armor skins that are unique to each class that you earn by doing your personal quest or some other quest chain.

4) show WvW players that we care and work on implementing a rank system for them (February I hope) and make meaningful changes to wvw in general by listening to those who do spend the most time there.

5) keep adding pve dungeons and contents, maybe even a large group dungeon (like a raid) that guilds can do but keep loot in line with the rest of the game. At the same time don’t fall I to the trap of feeding content locusts who will consume content faster the. It can be churned out and suck time and resources from other aspects of the game.

Being a thief the only things I think my need to be “nerfed”, backstabs top end damage (along with kill shot and other stupid high damage attacks) and CnD becuase as of right now dagger is almost always the go to off hand. At the same time things like pistol whip and flanking strike need to be fixed, pistol whip is crap damage and the stun is so short you almost never get the whole attack off and flanking strike is supposed to be unblock able but you would never know this since the pathing on it sucks and you have a very good chane of just missing.

Right now they just need to polish up the system they plan to add in February and then change monthly so pve’rs don’t need to wvw for completion and I don’t need fractals for completion. Solid (till they get around to makeing maps way bigger)

Ok maybe they need to add dyes to the glory vendor. I mainly wvw and can earn my daily there so even thou I pvp it’s different. Spvp has a currency and it wouldn’t hurt to have some dyes and minis that could be earned with glory.

What do you think of the Laurel system?

I personally always complete the daily/monthlies so I’m looking forward to finally being able to progress towards ascended gear without having to do FoTM.

Does anyone know how much it takes to get a ascended ring? We can see in the preview that is costs ~100 for a cat tonic, 5 for 10 uid dyes, and 5 for ‘class gear’ (yellow).

I think that getting ascended items for laurels is not fair to ppl who spent a lot of time doing fractals of the mist up to now. I spent a lot of time on fractals (over 250+ fractals) to get some ascended items (and im still now somewhere on middle of my way) and now everybody can easily buy it just for doing daily and montly and this is not right. Lazy ppl who dont work for their ascended on fractals should not get this ascended items. You want ascended? Then go hard work to fractals like other ppl and not only do daily/monthly. If I remember good Anet said that ascended items are items between exotics and legendaries with corresponding difficulty of getting it and what we see now? Ascended items for daily/monthly. Are you normal Anet? What will be your next step? Legendaries for daily/monthly? Let ascended item only for those who did hard work on fractals and deserve it and not for all. Ppl doing daily/monthly dont deserve ascended items. I hope that at least ascended will need 3+ months of daily/monthly to buy it.

I don’t think it’s fair they added a type of gear that could only be obtained by people who sit in lions arch all day running fractals. It excluded all the WvW players who spend time and silver defending your server and getting you bonuses that you did not help earn.

It’s sounds just as condescending and asinine when I say it too doesn’t it? No one aspect of the game is more important then anouther and should never be treated as such. Anet still needs to add a path to ascended gear thru wvw (hopefully next month) and then it will all be covered (minus crafting but maybe that will come?). If anything bringing out a tier of gear that was only obtainable thru one method was a mistake and was asking for comments like yours when it was finally changed.

Remove jp, remove pve elite mobs, double the size of the current maps and thus the distance between points. Leave yaks but make it so you can deliver supply to a keep and that you can drop said supply when downed lootable by enemy. Make it easier to get a way point. Rework RI to be complete immune for 2 minutes.

That’s my start, spread people out and make supply very important and easy to lose. Zerg would still be needed to take towers/keeps but you would have small groups always fighting for supply routes.

Other games charge 25$ to change serevers and charge a monthly fee and don’t let you guest for pve. Dunno seems like an ok deal to me.

Funny being a sword/dagger thief I don’t even f with mesmers if I see they have sword/sword. So yeah people hate on thief but we have things we hate too. S/s mes, well dropping necro (good ones), hammer warriors, d/d ele (good ones) and the rare but powerful sword/torch burn guard.

I swear that every person who defends the thiefs blatant overpoweredness does so because they themselves play a thief.

How about we have a new rule – if you play a thief you are not allowed to comment on if they are OP or not

If I can’t defend thief can I at least mention how terrible people can be at wvw and chances are if I killed you on my thief I would have also killed you and most likely two other people on my Guard who can actualy do AoE damage?

Max Target Aoe, Zergs, and You

AoE needs to be addressed in several ways, one remove cap, two make some effect areas smaller, three make pbaoe stronger then range AoE risk vs reward, four make AoE have a fall off closer to the center of AoE the more damage you take less the closer to the edge you are.

As for removing the cap like I said it is important to do so, we have dodge and big kitten circles on the ground that tell you where not to be already do people really need that much more hand holding?

I’m from SoR and I miss being the fifth ranked server, for the last two weeks now I have to wait a good 20 minutes+ to even play in wvw. When I finally do get in we own kitten near everything and I’m a roamed and it seems like all the other roamers from tc/sbi have packed it in for now. It’s sad too becuase of the fact that the SoR Zerg is grown so immense that the servers we fight against have no choice but to Zerg up themselves also and the problem just snowballs. (Don’t get me wroung the Zerg has its place its just that mine is not in the Zerg, rendering and ability lag is not what I want on my mellee toons)

Ah well guese I can work on my third 80 well I wait for things to change come February.

I agree RI is crap. Either remove it or make it a complete immune for 3 minutes. To people saying well if Zerg is at camp they are not attacking a tower, yeah I would buy that if you could t spit on a keep and two towers from almost every supply camp.

As of right now I have to agree with people when they say that There are to many reasons to run with the Zerg. It is over incentived RI bypassed by conditions easier with a large group, maps too small, to easy to Rez, etc etc. I’m not saying the Zerg needs to go away I would just like there to be more reason for small groups. Yes I run in a small group and you know what? I would gladly help the Zerg out if it was needed, with a change to ri and bigger maps small groups would be needed to take road guards and supply camps well the Zerg attacked towers and keeps. The Zerg would have its place and so would roaming groups.

People complain but if you really look its mainly about c&d and backstab burst. The biggest joke of it all is everyone that I know that has complained about thief I convinced to roll one and know they get it and they see how you can easily counter it if you know what to do.

it’s laughably easy to rack up kills with a BS thief, even without the culling exploit. i fear thieves will blaze through prestige ranks and gain all the spoils with little effort.

is anything being done to address the faceroll of the thief in WvW (and to an extent, d/d ele)? i fear that this horrible imbalance, while it did not really matter before, will enable godmode spec/profs to dominate even more.

And I thought maybe this thread would actualy be about prestige. Nope just another nerf thread about a class that can pick of stragglers really easy. I find it funny that people complain so much. I hated thief to till I rolled one. I found out that sure I can drop someone fast as a bs theif but then I need to get out and reset for the next target where as when plaing my guard I can just stay in the fight and keep on killing.

BS is really good at killing of unaware and lone players but in a group fight it kinda sucks. That’s why I moved over to sword/dagger with my thief. So even if they do nerf BS I don’t mind as long as they go and fix the problems we have with our other weapons (looking at you sword #3).

DaoC RvR is the soul of GW2 WvW that I why people discuss it so much and why there are so many DaoC players here now. By the way mordred was a FFA pvp server for DaoC. Also there is a game that is like what you miss an they are doing a huge revamp of it right now. If someone could help the name is sliping my mind at the moment .

I just hope that the hundreds upon hundreds of hours that I have spent in WvW busting my tail won’t be all for naught when this system gets introduced. I don’t particularly care how they go about implementing it. A shiny rank or title would be enough, abilities would be icing on the cake, but, if they do not grandfather in my previous stats, I will be furious.

I wvw every day and I can say is that not grandfathering is most likely the beat way to do it at this point. There is not enough cheese in the world to go with the whine that would come from the people who have not wvwed becuase of lack of rewards if we got something they didn’t.

Other games have stealth break on damage and break upon attacking. I don’t understand why this game made stealth even more powerful than it is in other games. Even in other games stealth causes mass complaints although it’s less powerful.

Stealth lasts 4 sec (speced) unless its shadows refuge. No other game limits stealth to this short of a duration. Hence the reason it does not break on damage.
If it broke on damage it would be useless and we would be low hp/ low armor warriors with no group support.

I don’t buy it. I have a top of the line system and I rarely see a thief at all when he attacks me.

If you are not seeing them its culling, it’s an Anet side problem and has nothing to do with how good you computer is.

I’m sure all the times I died we’ll stealths and the hundreds of thieves I have killed well they are stealthed where just flukes then.

The problems I have seen in the past with gaining rank thru objective capping is people stop attacking defended keeps. Taking defended location is hard and slows gains so people don’t do it and that then devolves into objective swapping.

Well gaining thru kills means people do defend and attack since its a good way to get kills if you defending or to draw people out if your attacking.

I am concerned about the impact to balance, particularly thief class balance. I hope that there are no additional stealth abililities being added. It’s enough of a problem as it is.

I think everyone knows how you feel about stealth. I also think this is being addressed by culling fixes. We also need to wait and see in detail what these abilities are going to be.

People bring up keep swapping and kill swapping as a problem.

To me it should be

Rank= player kill >>> objective
Currency= objective >> pk

As for kill swapping I see it being more like DaoC in that the roaming groups will find you, wipe you out and report the people on there side who do it.

Also with a RR system like DaoC had the Zerg was like training wheels, you stayed with it till about rr5 but at that point you had enough experiance to venture out with a small group and the points you where getting became so slow (since it shared with the Zerg) that to keep ranking up your really had to move on.

To encourage players to stick with a single server for WvW and fight for the pride of that server, server changes will incur a fee and have time limitations. Second, we’ll make improvements to culling.”

This, I do not like. Everyone who is on a horrible server will be much worse of if you clamp down on server transfers. I expect to see lots and lots of people fleeing these servers now “before it is too late” and the transfers both become paid for and incur some sort of penalty to boot!

Jump ship while you can!

Even crushing is the fact that I don’t find anything in that blog post discussing server imbalance. I expect servers like Fissure of Woe will be empty very soon if you go through with this.

It may have a more balancing effect if the personal rewards and progression are worth it. Because being on a winning server will mean nothing if you spend half your play time sitting in que.

Just to touch on something mentioned above. I can’t see them adding +% damage or defense as a bonus. It would really keep people from jumping in wvw with an alt and would discourage new player who would get stomped out the first time they came in to wvw. Maybe if the damage or defense was vs siege/doors/npcs but not players.

If anything I would picture titles, ability to build/repair faster, hold more supply, maybe base movement speed increase, access to ascended gear and gear with more deverse stats then currently offered, etc.

Working in culling fix and paid transfers. But to keep it short here is the meaty part.

We’re adding new features as well. We’ll introduce a system of prestige and advancement specifically designed for WvW. This will give players a progression path where they earn new WvW-only abilities and bonuses, and with them gain prestige and visible titles/recognition. Also, we’ll add a new motivation to the WvW domain that goes beyond the overall weekly score to give more short term reasons to be winning in WvW as well. We’ll discuss all these features in more detail as we get closer to release!

Video is old and is pre trinket nerf, he is killing under leveled and light armor targets. He is doing in 3 hits what bulls rush/100 blades can do or kill shot or judge intervention/ whirling wraith or etc etc etc can do. The biggest difference between the other things I listed and a BS thief? Only kill shot is single target the other attacks can hit multiple targets.

Ehh I was just throwing out a suggestion. Because I have been playing mmos a long time and the thief type class in so many games I have learned to trust my gut on stuff and right now it’s telling me we are going to get hit with changes that very well may cripple the class. The reason that this is going to happen is that even with all the stupid bugs and abilities we have to deal with and need corrected people will always hate on the stealth class because they “feel” like we are cheating and as long as this game is being made for everyone to enjoy the devs will eventually be influenced by the mass amount of negativity that is thrown at our class, they are not immune to it and will eventually say “man all this complaining about thief, may e there is something too it that we haven’t seen” I have seen it happen to often to tell myself it won’t this time.

Oh, I do. My aoe still rarely generates damage. Thanks for the feedback. Could you also share what other classes require this level of anticipation of what the enemy might do next, or go next?

Sure, that would a Mesmer. Between stealth and clones a good sword/sword Mesmer it harder to keep targeted then a thief. Also with the right build the same Mesmer will but a condition on you every time you kill the clone you are now attacking.

I am waiting for people to learn how to lose gracefully instead of trashing on a server for having more players, because we totally have control over our population.

Losing gracefully would imply that these people have class, which they do not.

I don’t normally get involved in the tier 2 drama but I stay up on it being on SoR.

So I just want to nicely point out that what you said can as easily be applied to the winners.

Look I know that as we are currently built stealth is the key to our survival. I also know that what I am asking would be a major shift to the class. With that in mind I will go ahead.

Being a single target light armor melee burst class we are part of the norm for every fantasy mmo or game made. Also in every game with stealth it has been a mechanic of contension because people beleave that if they could just see us they would win the fight (weighed this is true or not is not the point it’s how they feel). So I would like to see stealth changed to more of a shadow meld type ability where we can be seen, just a outline or a shadowy figure, well in shadow meld we would gain protection and be untargatable (not unhittable). Of course this would also have to come with a change to some of our stealth traits and also a bump to our base survivability.

Again I know that this would be a huge change, but maiming a thief I would rather the person I killed know that “I” beat them and not some mechanic and I think it would remove what will forever be a balancing headache for Anet.

Just my thoughts, feel free to give a better ideas or expand upon mine. Anything really.

I run 10/30/30/0/0 d/d. I have low hp but with all armor is knight gear everything else zerker. It’s not Tanky but you won’t be killed by AoE and auto attack.

In my view, the Trinity Needs to Come Back

Interesting.

As an old person with a certain degree of skill and 20 years of MMO experience, I found WoW PvE -especially the trinity- to be the pinnacle of autopilot easymode watch-tv-while-raiding mess.
GW2 PvE at least require you to dodge and block manually (which is automatic in WoW), requires position/warding/BB to block mobs whereas in WoW it’s a mere calculation (threat) that you build by using threat buttons, is reaction-based while WOW is as easy as “memorize this rotation and do it”.

Blizzard’s simple-minded design of encounters and simplistic, brain-dead combat system that requires no skill makes it seem they are directing their game to kids in the ages 8-12.
I ran all WoW had to offer and everything was terribly easy and straight-forward, whereas in GW2 I found some challenges even in PvE.

See, this is my opinion based on 20 years of experience and I didn’t even need to put it down as a fact as you did which gives it more value and credibility.

Vasham has already shot down this argument that is used often by people like you. I don’t know what your 20 “years of experience” comprised of but it obviously was not serious endgame raiding. To seriously suggest that it is “autopilot easymode” is ludicrous. You are seriously suggesting that players could watch TV and eat while pushing for top kills of Yogg 0-light. Let’s be serious.

Lets be serious like you said. First the type of pve player you speak of those that push for world first etc make up less then 1% of wows player base. Changing a game to fit what they want is huge waste of resources. Also even with the implementation of the looking for raid only about 20% of players in wow do end game raiding. So well pve players do make up the majority of a game raiders do not.

Like has been mentioned before. It is up to you to make a group and define rolls but I will help you. Crit hammer guardians can pretty much face tank a dungeon add in a d/d Elle with +healing gear you now have a tank/healer combo you should from there have your dps players slot abilities that have a cc element to them. With a set up like this and good players that dodge being one shot you should now have a group that feels much like what your used to.

If anything I feel that most of the complaints about pve in this game come from the fact that the game does not hold your hand and tell you what you should do.

The trinity is a bad mechanic in any game even if the game was designed for it.

You can’t just be tank,healer, or dps. You have to be the best/cookie cutter roll or you have to have some kind of gimmick that warrants you a spot in pve raids. This then starts the homginazation of class as all rolls need to be as good as each other and no one can have something that other classes don’t bring because it keeps people from bring certain classes.

Just thinking about it makes me disgusted and reminds me why I’m here and not playing wow/rift/swtor or some other EQ clone.

I don’t know what to expect out side of nerfs that are unwarranted.

What I think they need to do is change stealth to be like displacement from d&d you can see me (slightly faded out or shadowy) but all attacks have a high miss chance. The biggest complaint we get isn’t the damage we do but the fact we can’t be seen. So let people see us but have a hard time hitting us. Course it would also have to last longer so it would take a lot of testing . The up side is our traits wouldn’t need to change much to do this.

If they want to start nerfing damage then we better not be they only class on the chopping block. 100 blades and kill shot are one hit kills right now too so…

Making stealth break on damage is effectively removing it from the game. So what do you think we as a class should get to compensate? Because with out it we are a free kill.

So, let’s use our story-telling imagination here: You’re bleeding like a stuck pig and turn yourself invisible. Does the blood that hits the ground and separates from you remain invisible? How about your vomit from the poisoning? What about the fire burning your invisible body? Sorry, that first tick on a dot should pop you out of stealth. Maybe we could see the effects of the burning, the trail of blood or if they don’t want to leave a trail of sick on the ground, a trail of green puffs. If a thief were to cleanse themself before stealth, problem solved and I know they can trait for cleanse on stealth as well.

As for aoe’s, you’re saying that ele’s and other aoe heavy classes are screwed for revealing thieves, but warriors and other melee classes are golden? That’s not quite fair as a staff ele would have nothing to “lock on” to, other than drop an aoe field where they THINK the thief might be, but that wouldn’t reveal them. Thiefs, in my opinion, shouldn’t be a class that wades into the middle of the zerg battlefield stealthed, but I could understand them using their stealth to flank the sides while avoiding damage.

If it broke on damage, I’d probably ditch the revealed debuff to compensate.

I honestly think stealth breaking on damage would balance the class quite nicely.

Sure but if we want to go down that road then if I land an attack from stealth you should auto die. I mean you didn’t see me coming and I had time to line up a perfect attack that you had no way to defend.

Or we could keep up with the fact that this is a fantasy game where people shoot fireballs and lighting and can shape change into bears.

Stealth breaking on damage would destroy the survivability of the theif class and would make it so the class would need to be rebuilt from the ground up. It’s a bad idea.
