Unfortunately the only thing pve players are experience right now I’d the worst of wvw, ling ques, skill lag, and large groups of inexperienced and unorganized play, this is not what wvw is most times and not the best way to retain people in the wvw format.

I’m disappointed a bit, been in SoR since it was a tier 6 server. Play wvw every night I am on. Yet chances are I will have a hard time getting my achievements done. Super long ques(because que isn’t actually a que), game crippling lag (bad for necro), and no priority system for wvw players vs achievement chasers (hours logged in wvw or something).

yes I wanted things in wvw to be more meaningful like everyone else but the infrastructure to implement it was not there yet. I know it sounds elitist to say some should take priority over others to get into wvw yet at the same time I wonder where all these people are when I’m on a BL map with the out manned buff trying my hardest to capture stuff(yeah even tier 1 servers run outmanned sometimes).

I won’t be going for this achievement since being a roamer never nets that much wxp, that said you can always follow the zerg around and get easy wxp and for sure get you acieve.

Being on a teir 1 server we normaly don’t have super long ques outside of reset. Its the achievements that are mucking in it up.

The funny thing is if one or two big eve guilds transferred to a lower teir server they would just stomped out the other servers and start a new stacking. That’s what happened to SoR big couple guilds from JQ moved and some people from HoD moved and look where SoR is now.

no i dont mean in wvw. i mean in the obsidian sanctum. usually i just ignore other players in there but when people are camping in there just to get kills.. i just dont think its cool is all.

the JP is still wvw and if I had the time I would camp the crap out of it. Its a welcome wagon to wvw.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this is the ultimate goal. Reducing the caps would improve skill lag, make server population a smaller factor in victory and perhaps reduce the zerging we see now in WvW.

I asked that question in the FAQ thread and the answer was a resounding no:

We would prefer to see more people on the maps, if feasible.

This morning I was pretty excited about the potential of the new map, but the more I read in the FAQ the more it disappoints me. It really is just another perk for T1.

tier 1 players are still just that, players. There play time is just as valid as anyone else. This new map will at least give the thousands (per anet) of players that want to wvw a place to play well waiting on map que. Since it has no bearing on PPT and also gives a place to test wvw ideas before being sent to the PPT maps I don’t see how this is a bad thing at all.

It also removes one of the last reasons that anyone should spread out to other servers. Do T1 servers enjoy that there is only two other servers to fight week after week? Seems like we all gain by having some diversity. If there wasnt three ‘easy wins’ in Gold league maybe we wouldnt have a QQ fest because JQ has a better schedule.

server stacking is a known issue and anet said they will use the new maps to test ways to spread people out. At the same time this game is still a business and as such needs to cater to its players. If people are stacking on the top servers and you have no way to address it at this time why would you keep something you have most likely been working on for months from going live because it will what? Allow people to play? At this point bring out the map and figure out a wat to spread out your wvw community there are many suggestions that have been made and I’m sure it being debated by anet the best way to implement change with out breaking apart guilds and servers or angering the community more then needed (just look at the forums wvw is a volatile community).

at least in gold league jq/sor/bg will most likely win any match up against any one other then each other, who ever wins this first and hardest match up will most likely fo on to win the whole thing.

if I was to bet on it I would say it will be Jq as first then sor second BG third.

I was dismayed to see that they are part of the achievement and that it’s virtually impossible to avoid them.

I have a choice – forgo the ‘reward’ or waste my time on them. I’ll pass. Yet another disappointment.

There are 19 achievements, from which you need 15 for the reward. Only 4 are JPs so it is possible for you to get the reward without setting a foot in the JPs.

In theory – yes, it’s mathematically possible.

BUT – I assume this is per season and not a one-off? In which case the numbers become problematical – gain 50 ranks. Destroy 255 caravans, kill 500 enemy guards. capture 50 ruins etc. etc. Admittedly some are easy – 5 Stonemist captures is a joke ofc.

Flat-out WvW play at several hours a day (which is what I do) might make it – but I have doubts. Depends on how long a ‘Season’ is – a month? two? four? Surely not a year?

thing is I will have to do JP, as that guy who only roams getting 50 ranks would be nearly impossible. (unless I ran wxp boosters every night)

season is only 7 weeks btw.

Killshot is not a real issue, high hp, high armor, good mobility, good cc, good damage, double shake it off, double endure pain, health regen from trinket, health regen from adrenaline, all this on one build. This is a problem. Its just to easy to be good with this spec because so much of it is passive. The ability to passively clear conditions from spec and passively gain endure pain just allow for sloppy play, you don’t have to worry about kittening up the game will cover for you and then to regen 500-600 hp a sec well running away with you GS is frustrating to anyone who has to chase you down.

that’s in the hands of a mediocre player, get someone who knows what they are doing and the spec becomes worse, or pair it with a guardian so the war can pick up bulls charge and fear me, lol.

buy here is the thing, I don’t want it to change, leave it as is. Just fix the other classes so when they do play well they actually out shine an overly passive and forgiving spec like this one.

Just because it’s designed to be most helpful in combatting queues doesn’t mean it’s only going to be available when queues are there.

Seriously, ask yourself why they would implement a map that would only be usable during prime time and on reset night?

You seriously don’t understand do you?

What do you think having 5-10 people spread out over 4 maps feel like? Do you think spreading them out over 5 maps is better?

if your server only has 5-10 people playing wvw during your time zone you need to move servers.

Maybe it is me, but considering I am not from a T1 server I do not see the utility of such a map. If I wanna do proper WvW I go to one of the existing WvW maps, no queue.
Why would I go to a new map!?
Apart from the initial curiosity or maybe it will become another exploit map to farm WXP ranks?!

Its a “test server” that Anet isn’t calling a “test server” and many are lapping it up.

it will be a test server that uses people who want to wvw but can’t because of que to test things that will maybe pushed to the PPT maps and hopefully catch things like the lag bug from bloodlust before it effects the servers that don’t use the test map.

being one of the people in said “stacked server” I am looking forward to this map since it will be better then sitting in pve waiting for a PPT map to pop.

Like many others, I think this could be an AWESOME opportunity to give GvG a no stat-boost, not effecting PPT, varied terrain, fighting area.

I am really excited for this. It would be AWESOME if there was some way to get onto an instance of this map vs. people other than your weekly opponents. GvGers would be salivating to fight each other regardless of matchup, and it would be very cool from my perspective in a small server to get a group together to test my mettle against some higher tier players.

I’m sure the gvg space near the JP will come out well before this.

Most servers can’t fill four maps, why do we need a fifth?

I’m excited about new terrain and possibly new objectives or gameplay, but populations are too sparse already, this will make that problem worse.

I am all for new maps, but this makes no sense. To combat the queue? Seriously? Only a few servers have issues with a queue, while the majority of servers might have one map, let alone two maps queued.

Sure, reset night might have more people cramming in WvW, but that is it.

This seems like it is gonna hurt more servers than it will help. Servers with mid and lower populations can’t afford to lose any more numbers, and this will attract much needed numbers away from the real fight.

Need to fix the blow out match ups before this

this may be true right now, but this also opens the door to lowering map caps thus reducing skill lag and helping with lower pop servers competing even if that means trying to put a population balance cap into place.

now my concern would be in a truly mismatched game if a heavy wvw pop server like mine fills the fifth map and overflows we will have no one to fight, so I hope that this map will be opened to cross servers to try and have a good three way fight at all times even if it does not effect PPT.

edit: by cross server I mean each team is from a different server, since this is wvw we should avoid having people from different servers on the same team.

I feel like the devs are really listening to what people on the forums say but the big problem with this is that there are 90% or people that know little or nothing about pvp, 6 % people that have a decent knowledge and then 4% that are top tier pvp players

The problem i want to adress is that most of the time you see suggestions from the 90% and the other 10% can’t really say something against it since the mass of players kinda rules how the game developes..
To my mind it would be important to listen to the 4% (or the 10%) because then we might see good changes that 90% of the people wont understand at first but those changes would be much better for the game than the changes the 90% suggest…

I really liked some of the changes in the last patches but we are still missing a lot of things that can be implemented really easily because they are not that big

I play with a lot of the 10 % players and then we end up talking about the game between the matches and i hear so many great ideas …

just as an aside, well you may be a go to for changes the issue comes in that you only pvp, and the changes you suggest have sweeping ramifications on other aspects of the game including wvw. The problem as I see it is the classes are being balanced around spvp and one form of pvp “conquest” this in turn leaves to small of a sample size of how a class plays. If you want to use the “best” players to do balance then you need to pool players from all three aspects of the game and work on balancing accordingly even if that involves a true splitting of skills.

Here’s the thing, you don’t need to punish zerging, you could just stop incentivizing it. People will always zerg, some for large scale fights, some for the safety in numbers.

ideally you would raise the aoe cap, this is not possible due to technical limitations in game.

so what to do? Well there has been so many suggestions already that would work the problem is Anet is sticking firm to the " we don’t want people to be upset when other people show up." I agree with this in PvE but find it does not work in WvW no matter how casual you want it to be it is still pvp and competitive by nature so hopefully when discussions between devs and players start up with the new development discussions that anet is doing people wil show that we can deal with not everyone getting a cookie if its decided that a camp only has so many cookies and to many people showed up.

1) reward imbalance between PvE and WvW, even thou wvw is considered a sub set of pve.

2) class balance separation between wvw and spvp, what works or is op or up in a conquest mode spvp match is vastly different then what works in wvw.

Killshot can and will hit that hard against any number of targets that have modest toughness:

((1256 * 3.25 * 3500) * 2.5) / 2000 = 17.8k

It does have a monstrously long wind up and it does have to be setup so I don’t think it is OP, but the fact that 25% or more of the population now run with a Warrior is somewhat telling as to how powerful the class as a whole is.

that guy is probably extremely squishy.

Practically no warrior is squishy. They can go full zerk and still have 20k+ HP and easily sit on 2.5k armor.

2.5k armor is squishy very squishy.

for who? anyone who doesnt have plate that is a tanky number

Only T1 servers think bloodlust is fine, what a surprise.

Stacked Quarry, Stackgate and Sanctum of Stacking do not see the negative impact bloodlust causes on the game, because they are mindless drones, flocking to the security of player numbers while 1 mashing and opening champ loot. Try thinking about what it implements, think. You know, with your brain?

and here we have a post that makes me want to care? Please me how bloodlust has a poor effect on a close or balanced match up? Then explain to me how it even matters in a blow out?

Again its more of a coverage issue that makes people dislike bloodlust, here’s the thing, you could see more movement to lower tier servers if the way the game was scored changed. Scrap PPT, only award points for yak kills and the initial capturing of an objective, also award points for player kills and bonus points for stomps when you have blood lust. This then keeps the “bigger server” from racking up points during off hours. This also makes defending important to deny the enemy the capture points and at the same time you accumulate points from kills during the defense.

you then allow free transfers from a specific server to a different lower wvw rep server. Yes you may still have some stacking on the tier 1 servers but when we face servers that are no shows you wont have the outlandish blowouts we have now.

I like how “only” is like 6 ways to remove or mitigate conditions.

I’m not saying you can’t kill them, sometimes they don’t have GS equipped so they have to stay and fight.

the warrior was sold as a class that was easier to be “good” on then other classes, I will say that this is more then true. The problem is the other classes that should be better when played well do not have a significant enough reward for the effort. So either other classes need tweaking in certain areas or warriors need to come down a bit. Lets be honest thou its really hammer warriors and how well they play with so much of the spec being passive.

They really should have made the heal part of siphon a percent of damage done, then had the damage scale off of power better even if this involved moving traits around to make you go farther in blood, in most builds that i see go blood you do it at the cost of having lower burst by forgoing +crit damage, and this siphon becomes your crit damage and a chunk of your survivability the way they have it set up no this is just no viable.

You just need to Roam, I play a power necro and don’t run a zerg friendly build. Its really the only thing you can do if you don’t want to be cookie cutter.

its really not anyone fault, its just currently the combo of hammer guad, hammer war, staff ele is just to good together in large scale fights, as for necro staff is the only AoE weapon they have.

Highest armor, highest hp, good passive healing, good damage, 2nd best mobility, good CC, good condition removal, really good for combos.

Play either one, Plate+Hammer seems to be the the way to go in wvw right now, just look at the groups you fights its almost always guard+warrior+token water field(Ele) plus fillers till you can get another guard or warrior.

As long as uneven matchups exist;

Any boost, whether it’s stats or points per stomp, is bad for the game

Get out of your T1 bubble and see how the rest of the WvW world is.
You might find that what’s good for T1 is bad for WvW.

I love how being Tier 1 invalidates anything we have to say.

how bout this, No NA server has less then a high population so maybe if the other people on your server left the LS or dungeon for a bit you may be able to to field a force that could push your rating.

I just want a decent melee weapon, dagger hits hard but not hard enough to justify taking it over Axe in most builds, the problem is the damage would be fine if it cleaved but it does not. Also the two corresponding traits for dagger are meh, 20% cd reduction but no damage boost and 25% speed increase but not well in combat (you know when you need it the most).

I saw a warrior last night on IOJ that confused the hell out of me.
“she” (probably not IRL gender) was completely immune to all of the following, all of the time:

  • Cripple SPAM
  • knockback
  • burning (litterally stood in my fire trap, never caught fire)
  • Immobs
  • any physical damage (just out-regened it!) … poison didn’t seem to debuff this btw.

…3 of us all tried to focus her, she just teleported away with that sword whirl faster than any FGS Ele I’ve ever seen before. …. like if this game had 50% faster movement speed?? Well she had like 100% … that’s how fast her disengage was and I’m on double sword roaming ranger which even Ele and Thieves have trouble disengaging from. ….My guild leader just said ignore her. “She’s trolling us”.

I don’t understand this and I need someone to explain it to me. …Just like a month ago everyone was whining that Warrior was the weakest crap there was in PvP’ing. There was a survey where they were dead last. ….someone explain how all those things are allowed, b/c yes, I’ve heard people say that warriors can build to shrug off pretty much everything

ehhh the great sword just needs to get the ride the lighting treatment, don’t hit someone with it you get a really long cool down (either that or anet needs to not be hypocrites and un Nerf d/d ele movement).

Honestly, I expect alot of soon, our metrics, were looking for, were trying to, and of course our server are not capable of.

I really don’t mean this as an insult, but please don’t get to excited and think your going to get all these super awesome solid answers. With his track record, Devon will probably dance around the questions while not actually answer the more concerning ones. I hope I’m wrong, I hope he has some solid answers for the community going forward so we can put some of the concerns to rest.

he will answer what ever PR and Legal have given him a green light to answer, just like anyone else who has a job with a company and Interacts with the public would also have to do.

It was cute how you built 3 AC’s as well as having your blob.

The numbers needed to create a “blob” are getting smaller and smaller. Soon running any more than a 5 man will be considered blobbing it up.

I was running with people in team speak last week, person calls out that a “zerg” was inc, the zerg was 5 people, we had six. I dunno maybe people get nervous and forget to count or something.

The sword skills are pretty much already in the game, warrior sword one is pretty much the same thing I used, the sword pull can work like guardian pull in such that the pull is a follow up attack.

as for torch the first attack would do fire damage to attackers, not burning, and the second attack could be a 2 second burn per boon stripped making it a total of 6 secs, 12 secs with 100 duration, with the amount of condition removals and duration ruductions this would be easy to mitigate if your enemy wanted too.

then again this is just my thoughts and would need to be tested.

Really maps need to be bigger, I don’t think the game can have bigger maps at this time but it should be on the to do list, bigger maps with the objectives spread out would force servers to split up to have a chance to hold objectives. You could still zerg up in a 60 man group but if objectives where spread out and three 20 man groups hit three different towers and you can only get to one of them with your zerg you either split up or lose two towers.

Like I said, I feel we need a cleaving melee weapon. So my ideas.

sword/torch

s1.1 attack + bleed
s1.2 attack + bleed
s1.3 attack + cripple
s2 throw sword and pull target to you applies torment.
s3 attack repeatedly with sword sending out projectiles that convert boon to conditions on hit.
torch 1(4) set your self on fire with ghastly flames, flames remove conditions on you and do damage to attackers
torch 2(5) send out a ring of ghastly flame stripping up to three boons from enemies for each boon removed adds a stack of burning.

will post great sword ideas later when I have time.

If anything I think its too easy to run away if your losing a fight, great sword warriors and thief being the biggest offenders but most classes can choice to run if things go south for them.

To those two thieves running from a 1v2 and spamming /laugh, lmfao.

At least we can roam is packs of less than 5-10 (this is the typical case with SoR as i very rarely run into roamers of less than 5). Take some lessons from JQ before you pass judgement on roamers- SoR from all of my encounters runs unless they outnumber you greatly.

SoR also could take some lessons in behavior. This forum all week has been plagued with their kitten and tantrums. Too hard to white knight when you are winning SoR? SoRe losers and SoRe winners.

I try not to get mixed up in this forum drama, but come off it, I have seen more then enough TC run away from me this week then I can count, and I run a two man group. I won’t speak for everyone on my server and it would be a good idea if you don’t either.

Wait till free trial weekend thing is done, recheck populations, as far as I know pop is based off current players on line (why pop changes thru the day) numbers would be skewed right now with the free trial players.

I’m currently looking for a guild that myself and my friend can join for wvw havoc squad, we play most week nights between 830-1200 est. We are currently in a guild with RL friends that prefer pve and well its nice to talk to them out interests are in small man wvw. I will always rep when in wvw or doing guild events but may rep current guild when not in wvw just to talk to them. If you think we may be a fit for your guild please send me a pm on forums or in game.

ascii is a top rate necro on the same server as me, well are taste in builds run different I will say I have seen his live stream and he knows what he is doing.

Also Plague is a must in group wvw, shoot rotating plague allowed me and my buddy to take out a 5v2 tonight.
