Considering what made Berzerker functional in a PvE environment just got removed from the game… I think Spellbreaker will definitely have a shot at having a role in PvE. If it doesn’t, Warrior won’t.
The devs show off spellbreaker and people instanly cry overpowered and how it makes core warrior more obsolete, then the devs introduce a change to make core warrior more relavent and people still cry.
Ya just can’t win huh?
Core warrior at its core is obsolete.
I wouldn’t have minded the change if the first burst landed by a berzerker still gave the 3 stacks…
That’s a fair point, considering the warrior needs to generate three stacks to enter the mode.
So, given that, it seems reasonable to allow full procs of traits like BP and AH (if traited) just for entering primal state. I don’t think it would be unbalanced, and it would be a nice perk in keeping with the flavor of the elite.
You will have to do a Level 3 Adrenaline Burst, then get max Adrenaline again to enter Berserk Mode. I think this change is really stupid, because the entire premise of entering into Berserk Mode was that Primal Elites were Level 3 Bursts for only 10 Adrenaline. .
Actually, the premise of Berserk Mode is an overall power increase across the board for a limited duration. I think they should count the spent adrenaline upon entering, but if they want to bring Berserker down, they should add a short-duration “Fatigue” following leaving the rage.
Or, they could have just left it alone – Spellbreaker would have stood on its own with its focus on defense and counter-offense, which Berzerker lacks. The continued murder of Power-based support from Berzerker (When it used to be great for both Power and Condi) is really killing my enjoyment of this game.

Given that it now has a full evade during animation, this adds a LOT of difficulty in determining the right counter to a warrior coming at you in the heat of battle.
You now need to decide whether they’re using Bull’s Charge, Headbutt, or Shield Bash.
If it’s the former, you can no longer respond with a quick blind or interrupt. If it’s either of the latter, you can. While these do all have different animations, you have mere milliseconds in which to react depending on how close the warrior is or how late you notice.
I predict people will just not bother attempting to cc any more (too risky) and will react with dodges or blocks for everything.
That’s why you follow up with a Shield Bash and Headbutt. There’s no escaping the CC train!
4 with TU if I am not mistaken….Problem is massive loss of stability
Sb has dolyak stance so I think we’ll be okay. It’s already going to be a better stab skill than Wild sig was.
But that’s not Core Ranger. Now we’re stuck with “INTERRUPT ME SOMETIME THIS WEEK” as our only source of Stability.
Looks like it’s going to replace Berzerker in PvE now, too.
I wouldn’t have minded the change if the first burst landed by a berzerker still gave the 3 stacks…
I’m mostly salty that they gave Ranger the durability Warrior used to enjoy (But then took away all its stability – but I like BOTH classes)
The only decent changes are the fall damage trait and swap of Hammer and Axe traits (And associated merges)
Guys why the tears? Sig/ marksmanship rework is amazing, ws is fankittening tastic now (death to guardians) too, hell im dropping druid for that sweet sweet double stone. plus 2 extra ws skills for some more cleanse and the abiltity to group cleanse and not insta kill your pet,
skirmishing grand master might even see some play with remorseless and in any case is a dps boost for power ranger,
And the pet thing deff a bug report and be patient sheeeeetz
That Double Stone can take its kitten ass back to the garbage can it crawled out of. The invulnerability was more of a Warrior thing – I want my kitten Stability back.
Adding insult to injury – You know how Endure Pain got nerfed because its uptime was too long? Rangers now have twice as much as Warriors ever had.
Paragon will probably never come back, because the profession’s been divided between Guardian and Warrior. Ritualist has been divided among several classes, as well.
The Sunspear outfit is just that – the Sunspear outfit from GW1. It looks great on humans and Norn Females.
I think the weapon skin we got is actually going to end up being like the Plated weapons from Heart of Thorns – we’ll be able to upgrade it into a shinier one when the expansion launches.
I really dislike the idea of Staff on warrior. I think any weapon being wielded by a warrior should have strong physical impact. Heavy Blunt Hammers, Gouging swords. Weakness finding daggers are meh, but I’ll take it. I’d like you to imagine you’re going to fight other armed kittenes in combat, and someone hands you a large stick…. are you kittening kidding me bro I’ll take the Rifle or a giant kittening sword. Staff on thief is dumb, staff on rev looks dumb, keep it to the mages.
Have you never heard of the Irish Shillelagh? Or even a Quarterstaff? You can really kitten someone up fighting with a staff. Daredevil’s staff was great. Spears are nothing more than a staff with a blade on the end, and the blade is completely optional to ruining someone’s day, simply from the physical force magnified over the weapon’s length and focused on the tip.
well i hope distracting strikes is still around. i’ll be happy if it is, livid if it’s been deleted
wont be buying the expac if the mess up the class. why bother right?
Distracting Strikes has been merged with Merciless Hammer. (Just as Dragonhunters can use Heavy Light’s stab on hard CC without needing to use a Longbow).
I am SUPER EXCITED for these changes, because they give Strength strong coherency and synergies with both itself and other traitlines.
Spellbreaker has only 33% of the functional adrenaline of Warrior. And do you know what you do when someone goes “Absorb all damage, counterattack with CC, and evade with unblockable”? You hold back your hit. It’s a tiny invulerabilty window, which every class has access to.
…. I’ve seen attempts by people who’ve ripped the armor models from the game to mix and match. The results are… not pretty. The seams are completely off on all armors. We’re talking every beltline horribly clipping (or leaving extremely unsightly gaps) when going cross-armorweight.
Getting kinda tired of pointing this out to people. Rangers are people of the land. “Range” is not meant as in distance but rather range as in land. Rangers are people who watch over and protect land. Look at park and forest rangers in real life.
Even the official description from GW2 site states: “Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled survivalists with traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.” They are not your rifle toting hunters. They are the protectors and tenders of nature. Stop trying to put rifles in their hands; it’s never going to happen (or at least I hope not).
Rifles will happen eventually. Rangers may try to rely on the powers of earth, air, fire, water, and and fluffy bunnies, but there comes a point when they’ll want to say say “Eff this” and combine it all to summon Captain Hollowpoint through some jerk’s skull.
Until then, enjoy the nature themes.
Rifles will probably eventually happen, but they won’t be a sniper spec. We got that with Thief. It will be something that makes more sense to the Ranger class and theme. Melee rifle? lol who knows. Stranger things have happened.
My idea would be having the rifle be a spirit-powered shotgun. With one long-range attack on Skill 5 that inflicts Revealed and Vulnerability in addition to high damage, just for those who MUST have a sniper shot.
Rifle1: Blast. Fire a shotgun blast out to 1200 range, but deals less damage the further away the target is. 1/4 second cast time to keep the buckshot pumping
Rifle 2: Roar. Channel the spirit of the tiger through the resounding roar of your rifle. Point-blank blast finisher that deals high damage and inflicts weakness on your enemy.
Rifle 3: Charge Shot. Charge forward while shooting. You can move in any direction while firing.
Rifle 4: Smokeblast. You vent your rifle, and a smokescale spirit clouds the area in a Dark Combo Field that blinds enemies within it.
Rifle 5: Hawkeye shot. The keen eyesight of a hawk guides your aim with a debilitating, long-range shot. Deal high damage to the target, and inflict Vulnerability and Revealed.
My problem with the outfit is its terrible dye channels – they mixed materials. So now I can’t have a vibrant red tunic without suffering through awful purple shoulders
I hope they change the aura to a more fitting “Spirit animal overlay” (At least head, hands, and tail when relevant. Possibly back), with a similar glow effect as Chuka+Champawat’s tigers (And ideally, accounts with Chuka+Champawat have their Tiger fusion use that color scheme as well.)
… now I need to make Incinerator, so my Ranger can rip into foes with dual daggers and dance around them with Shortbow, and all around be a complete tiger-powered kitten.
Also – WHEE! Dolyak Stance! We finally get a source of Stability that can’t be interrupted if we try to cast it mid-fight, or stripped/corrupted if we try to enter with it pre-cast.
Am I the only one who still doesn’t understand why the stat types were ever changed in the first place? Concentration and expertise are far from intuitive, and ferocity somewhat sits in the same boat. The labels don’t really correlate to their properties.
Critical damage, boon duration, and condition duration make a lot more sense label-wise. I mean, you could better argue that concentration would be a word better fit to add critical damage, and expertise would better fit critical chance.
The way the numbers work in the stats is just fine to me, but the names are goofy.
Actually, the outlier is “Condition Damage”. They should rename it to something like “Malice”
I hope the tomes have ground targetted skills, directional cones, and targetted abilities in addition to PBAOE.
Thats pretty lame. Single purchase price, huh? Very cheeky.
I suspect the problem was the outrage from entitled Core Owners who were expecting a reduced price for Heart of Thorns for having already purchased the base price. So now we can buy Path of Fire for a reduced price if we already have HoT.
… I didn’t have to replay the story, and I followed it just fine.
That said, I am wholly hyped for the new especs.
I really hope the Renegade elite spec isn’t the Yet Another Garbage Support Spec it looks like. At least shortbow looks awesome. (And what would make it a garbage support spec is by being a support spec. They already have one – Herald. Having nothing but support Especs would leave the class lacking)
Firebrand support spec says hi. (We already have one support spec)
Dragonhunter is not a support spec. The Firebrand looks like it will be everything I was hoping it would be, and a nice compliment to the instant, power-based and personal Dragonhunter.
Good luck roaming wvw and pvp with firebrand.
Those are for Dragonhunter (Though I think Firebrand may find a distinct role in PvP as a bunker, and possibly more viable at high-end play than DH). But, while the loss of the one place Core Guardian shines will be bad, I think Firebrands will find a welcome place as the backbone of WvW zergs and larger havoc groups.
Dragonhunter gave the Guardian point defense, personal DPS, and incredible instantaneous abilities. It seems the Firebrand finally lets them recognize Conditions, while giving a more clear support role that doesn’t require them to fly around all over the place. I mean, the Dragonhunter’s “Save allies with Wings of Resolve and Shield of Courage” is fun, but standing back with a tome dropping powerful support and area effects is also cool.

I see a lot of people saying the “Oath stuff was out of place” – Honestly, I liked the mechanics of that instance… but as a Charr player – SCREW THAT TREASONOUS OATH!
Seriously – Pledging allegiance to Kryta like that is straight-up treason to the Black Citadel and Charr Legions. Even if our character has no intention of harming Kryta, or supporting the Legion against Kryta unnecessarily, it compromises the loyalty of a Charr Commander, and puts Kryta in a position to be unnecessarily antagonistic to the Charr Legion, and crippling the commander’s ability to retaliate (Or worse, attempt to force treachery)
I was hoping the story would stay completely away from having our character throw themselves in with any particular competitive world power. So, yeah. Unfortunately, the game is guaranteed not to go in a direction where our character is allowed to kill themselves to retain loyalty to the Legions while feeding the treacherous heads of Kryta to the elder dragons.
As a charr player, I want to say this:
Screw the Shining Blade,. Can I please have my character kill herself to screw over the world just to screw over the Shining Blade please? I really, REALLY dislike how Charr are required to pledge allegiance to a faction that is only temporarily allied to the High Legions. Even if a charr has no intention of opposing Kryta or supporting the Legions in being unnecessarily antagoinstic to Kryta, it still compromises loyalty, and puts Kryta in the position of being able to be unnecessarily antagonistic to the Charr Legions and rendering the Commander helpless (Or having to betray Kryta, die, and screw the world over. Which I guess could help keep Kryta in line – but only if the player’s a Charr, which most aren’t)
So yeah – screw the queen, screw Anise, and screw the Shining Blade and their stupid death-oath.
Hmm as I mentioned before the perma-ban seems a little excessive and sudden. Why not go for 6 months to a years time. Even more high profile competitive games do this. Furthermore, if Anet wants to fix the scene they need to actually start dealing with some of the complaints that have been around since forever.
I read an article where an espurts player on Overwatch got banned simply because he was using vulgar language on stream. It wasn’t even sPvP manipulation or any other type of Tournament manipulation.
I applaud Anet for having the aptitude to say, “we’re not taking your kitten anymore.”, to an event that was heavily disrespected by these players. Same to Jebro who immediately replied to the investigation and banned these players from entering future prize winning tournaments.
You mentioned Overwatch, even Blizzard’s policy is to go for 6 month bans. Unlike Blizzard, ANet can’t afford to lose pvp players.
Anet refusing to get rid of the unethical and unsportsmanlike PvP players is why the game’s PvP scene is so small.
Why are they allowed to get away with Real Money Trading (Spending real-world money on an in-game good or service – in this case, PvP monthly rewards. This is just as bad, if not worse, than Gold Selling/Buying and Powerleveling) Account sharing, and Match Manipulation with their accounts still in a playable state?
Everyone involved should be banned from the game, permanently, just as if they were a Gold-Selling spammer or gold/Legendary Weapon purchaser.
I know some argue that “They’d just make a new account!” So what? They can still ‘just make a new account’ for PvP. Half of them were achievement hunters – this level of Breach of ToS should rob them of their accounts, and all those AP.
What’s really stupid is that there is ONE skill that’s about throwing your sword at the enemy – one! And it’s not even really used all that often! (Warrior Sword 4). Well, I guess Revenant Sword 2’s default projectile is the sword model, but still Zealot’s defense, Flaming Fury, and…. Revenant Sword 2 (I can’t remember its name)… all would look better with just a lightning bolt as a projectile effect.
She died only once on me. Just keep the aggro of the sparks and you’d be fine. The initial wave of sparks is the worst.
“Just keep the aggro of the sparks” – except there are no mechanics to do such. Even my Berzerker’s taunt didn’t get them to attack her more than the “Taunt” time before they went back to smacking Livia. I tried everything I could to get their attention – Bladetrail to try rounding them up on me before they made it to Livia, lots of melee cleaving the sparks with all my skills, Wild Blow and Stomp to force them off Livia – she still went down like a wet noodle.
The way i see it, they are aiming for exclusivity. You have to decide which ones you want and that includes ones you like but not as much as the ones you really want. I had 4 tickests but down to 3 now after deciding to get a skin and those are tickets saved over a long time. It seems to work since i so rarely see the skin i chose.
If they wanted exclusivity, they wouldn’t give achievements for completing the set.
… I managed to get Fearless without even trying by running my Sword+Torch berzerker build.
For some reason, it never got to 100% damage reduction (Or maybe it doesn’t apply to conditions?) But it was a crazy-long fight, otherwise. Had I known more about what I was getting into, I’d have gone Strength instead of Condi, equipped Signet of Stamina and Healing Signet, and just dodgerolled it to death.
We will have players of the same division in matches when we have a player base big enough to field matches contained within the same division (+/- 1 based on the edges) with reasonable queue times and diverse matches (Instead of shuffling around the same 10 people)
The single fail I’ve seen in the last 8 months was from South being too quick (we were short on time and the non-natives were restless, so South going forward too soon demoralized everyone).
However, it hardly ever fails. The lynchpins as the OP refers to them are:
- The main job of the exalted armors is to deal with adds — stay away from the Octovine until you’ve made things safe for
democracyyour allies.- If there’s lots of people, consider helping the armors do that — the “plenty” can deal with breaking the vine’s protection.
- Everything specific to the lane is simple enough that you can ask during the event: south & north are trickier than east & west, but not much.
As for guides, they are many (and most of the older ones remain accurate):
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gw2+auric+basin+meta+event+guide
Main Job of Exalted Armor is to deal with the Bonebreakers, which will ensnare the bomb(Requiring armor to break it free), and kill players. It’s not the armors distracting the frogs normally – it’s the frogs distracting the armors.
I too hope we get more skimpy male armors. At least some more armors that show off charr legs, for all armor weights.
I’m used to getting leather from skinning creatures and cloth from killing humanoids in other games. Is there a particular reason for this not being available in GW2?
Well, skinning is useless, but I don’t see why they don’t have animals (Neutral and hostile, not ambients) drop leather sections more frequently. Humanoids do drop cloth, though, in the form of loot bags.
I think that they should just normalize refinement for all four crafting disciplines, and have patches require equal amounts of leather and cloth (And dowels should have equal metal and wood). From there, balancing the economy is simple. The problem that caused the overboard leather disaster was simply that armor didn’t require leather, the way weapons required both wood and metal.
(edited by Sartharina.3542)
Having patches require both materials simply exacerbated the demand issue that the reduced supply of leather caused while depressing the cloth market (since the bottleneck on crafting is the leather supply).
While the value of silk and gossamer is pathetic.
I won’t really compare this to paying for ascended armor though. I only had to pay the price for the armor once. It will last forever, I don’t have to pay gold to maintain it. the 510 gold were a one time fee. If they increased the fees for using waypoints though, that would really hurt everybody at all levels and times. Armor is not a consumable good, it should be expensive, even houses are not forever, that armor is.
As GW2s is a Living World, that means builds are forever changing. With that, your armor will change if you want to play to the best of your ability or, perhaps, if you want to try another playstyle. Additionally, you are still missing the point. People should not have to depend on the botters or the extreme hardcore farmers to acquire one category of material. If some want to just buy it, great. That option is there for them. But “grind it to buy it” for a crafting mat?! That is not acceptable. Unfortunately, too many people are just accepting it. Therefore, it will go unchanged. That is what is being accepted as ‘status quo’ when people say/infer “just buy it”. I appreciate that newer players who were not playing 2 years ago have not the opportunity to compare now and then, regarding the leather economy, but do not dismiss those who came before you.
T6 mat comparison cost (as of 1 min ago):
- Gossamer Bolt … 1s 23c
- Orichalcum Ingot … 4s 60c
- Ancient Wood Plank … 19s 37c
- Cured Hardened Leather … 1g 9s 98c
- Gossamer Patch … 2g 45s 93c (each patch contains (2) T6 Leather basically and is needed to craft EXOTIC insignias)
Now, let’s compare the ratios of T5 mats:
- Silk Bolt … 1s 49c
- Mithril Ingot … 1s 18c
- Elder Wood Plank … 6s 85c
- Cured Thick Leather … 9s 69c
So, when you look at the overall balance of each tier … hmm … one of these things is not like the other.
And cloth is being depressed by the high cost of leather – You can’t spend cloth without also spending even MORE leather. Cloth should be more expensive than it currently is, but leather’s keeping its price down.
I’ve seen it argued that “Leather is high to make Exotic Equipment expensive!”. For Non-HoT stats, the very presence of the ‘named’ gear worth less than 3 gold completely eliminates that argument (And just makes crafting unrewarding). For HoT stats – that’s what the linseed oil is for.
An hour of Silverwastes doesn’t give 35 gold. And that’s not enough to do a kitten thing with leather, anyway.
If the economist wasn’t stupid, he’d see that equalizing refinement and crafting between leather and cloth would equalize the values, since Leather and Cloth are acquired via the same means. Sure, there are a bit of value discrepency through demand between classes, and a few excess material sinks in the form of minor crafting projects like Mawdry, but it would quickly balance out, and provide a decent sink alone for any excess.
I want stats that have Healing Power, Power, and NO TOUGHNESS. I’d love Menders for PvE.
Eh there already is such gear. Its called zealots. Power/prec/heal.
Now if only heals could crit…
I was thinking mainstat Healing Power. Like PvP’s Mender’s. Though replacing that vitality with Ferocity or Concentration would be fun.
I want stats that have Healing Power, Power, and NO TOUGHNESS. I’d love Menders for PvE.
The problem with “The Golden Sun” is that Golden Sun is already a videogame.
Haste is generic, and can apply equally to Swiftness and Quickness, while they’re separate boons. Swiftness implies a high movespeed, especially overland. Quickness implies rapid, energetic motion, such as fast attacks.
Or, as Cheetor (A cheetah with high running speed, obviously) explained it to Quickshot (A scorpion-snake capable of nearly-instant strikes) in Beast Wars “You’re quick, but you’re not fast”
There are several big downsides in GW2 with mounts:
- GW2 have no collision boxes. (so we would look at huge amoeba trains on new maps unless they manage to spread out players even more than in Tangled Mess)
This isn’t really a problem
- GW2 have huge Norns/Charrs and tiny Asuras (so how they would fit mounts?)
Gloriously
- Anet have no balls to scrap waypoints down to 1 per map
Silverwastes and Bitterfrost Frontier say hi. And 1 waypoint per map is garbage design anyway, even with mounts. Every map should ideally have at least three (Entrance, middle, far), ideally five (One for each corner, and one in the middle)
- Anet can add them to core game areas
Not a problem
- Several mount types due to mastery system guarantee us almost 0 skins for each type (Anet lazy even in gem store department)
Do not underestimate the power of monetization.
- Every normal DD is already running with perma 33% speed boost all the time
DD’s make up less than 1/9th of all active characters at any given time. Warriors, Guardians, and Necromancers will appreciate having reliable out-of-combat speed.
GW2 launched in 2012, almost five years ago. You want the personal story to be updated now, after all that time passed, and after all those millions of characters went through it? Why would Anet do that?
to quote half the game’s Reddit frontpage at any given time “Hi, I’m new to the game!”
I don’t mind grinding to get things with in reason, I accept I have to work for the things I want but when I only get one decent drop every 3-6 months that’s worth anything, It’s hard to justify the time I pour into this game for the very minimal rewards…
Yet until the next big decent MMO comes along it’s either GW2 or the drivel on TV…
If you’re playing for the drops, that’s your problem. The game’s primary reward is the exploration and gameplay, not the items.
I hope we get Gryphons as a ranger pet. Especially Hawkeye and Eagle gryphons.
well,im glad that offhand MACE,SWORD AND AXE is ok. no need to look at that.
Not to mention warhorn, which almost nobody uses. Currently shield is the best off-hand choice.
Most of the heals would still need a buff, as almost everybody takes healing signet and the other options are ignored (year after year).
I am not asking to make warrior all powerful without any weaknesses. Sometimes small things like 20 % cooldown reduction, while not nerfing anything, might do the trick.
well, they could add protection on wh with some regen to make it more viable choice to shield.
They need to give it back its Condi To Boon.
Or, in your own LFG, indicate that the other IP is full.
