I tried it quite a bit ago, it takes 10 times more effort to get right than a dodge thief or dire mes.

The staff doesn’t really do condi damage at all, meaning output is poor. Longbow is the same. To do a reasonable amount of condi damage you would have to use shortbow. I haven’t tried that since they buffed it.

Went back to a mostly zerker build.

The drop rates from the reward tracks seem decent to me. I haven’t done fractals for years so I wouldn’t know if it’s better there or not. I’ve gotten several ascended rings and ascended armor/weapon chests from random loot boxes in the dungeon tracks, the maguuma tracks and the triumphant armor track. The loot boxes from the new bloodstone fen and ember bay tracks haven’t given me anything decent, so maybe only a few tracks have boxes with good drop rates.

But keep in mind that the emry Bay track filled a couple times is the fastest way to get an ascended back peice

You get 50 bloodstones from each time the track completes and need 200, so 4 times.

Still would be nice to have the option to buy ascended weapons and armor the same way.

You can find they get killed rather than downed after being downed several times, this resets if you die completely and map or get rezzed from dead.

It only applies if a player is downed and then manages to recover without dying.

Aside from stuff like skill balance (every game mode needs that), what is it specifically that you guys want added, removed or changed in WvW?

The problem is the skills are the main issue, a third map sometime might be nice but that’s not a pressing issue.

The HoT update and skills overhaul was massively biased towards PvE/raids with no thought to sPvP or WvW. It nearly killed WvW with huge numbers of people leaving. Now the skills of some builds are massively over powerful, Mesmer, Thief, and a few others have builds that are nearly impossible to take down.

ETA: Btw you don’t need stealth removal skills, but the game and its players are that dumbed down that they think they do. What’s even worse is that they’re too lazy to even use them SMH.

True, what we need is all of the stealth removed from the game and see if you really need it. considering all of the other options thieves have I think you will get along fine without.

BTW I didn’t comment on conditions, that used to be far too weak.

At the moment my personal favourite would be to make the target description at the top of the screen when you select something either transparent to left click while positioning AoE or moveable so I can place it to the side or bottom of the screen. I am so sick of dropping meteor shower on my own feet that I have almost given up playing Elementalist.

Considering how well they made the GW1 interface the GW2 one is horrible in comparison.

Thats not acceptable. Those classes are weak in WvW, only really good for 1v1 sniping or full mobility troll builds. Maybe scrapper but I’m not buying HoT as a WvW exclusive player.

Did you just start to play this game? You’re calling some of the most OP classes weak?

ETA: I’m honestly a bit annoyed by the ignorance in this thread, so I’ll be out after this post but:
All Elite specs are overpowered – you’re having a hard time as a non elite against no matter what class. Demanding more “unstealth skills” doesn’t help this game one bit.

Missed this bit, yeah, strange that they put those wonderful Elite specs in and almost demolished the game. I sometimes wonder if Colin was planning a disaster? Guess we aren’t going to get an answer to that.

I don’t think stealth is really utilized that much anymore tbh. It seems like dodges is the new cool thing to do.
I main necro, so I instantly hate all thiefs for their stealth, dodges, and cool scarfs and kinky gear they get to sport.

There are even more people using stealth out there.

I suggest you put in yourself in the position of the thief before you complain. Do you know how much nerf they got?

Less than half of what they should have got. I see people putting up messages about internal cool downs in skills, totally useless if the skill lasts for more than a couple of seconds.

Rangers can, druids can, engineers can, scrapper can.

Have you tried the supposed Ranger stealth removal skill? First you have to equip it, and in any other circumstance it has no use, so rangers don’t carry it. Second you have to predict when the thief or other toon is going to go invisible and activate it as the thief vanishes. That makes it useless. Oh and before that you have to know the thief is there, so they get to backstab you first, a crit and it could be your downed before you even know you are being attacked.

The problem is that the thief and every other profession is balanced for PvE. sPvP has it’s own balance because of the small area.

WvW needs balancing for itself. Invisibility is far stronger than elsewhere and there should be far less of it available.

OK, I’ve thought about ir, so you get someone on an enemy server to put up a cata and hit the wall. When damaged enough you all repair and 15 gold each every few minutes. Then later return the favour. That would certainly please cheaters.

I’m stuck as well. I’ve tried joining another map and even guesting on another server, but every time I go there, the event is bugged.

Guesting is very unlikely to work as it is now a megaserver issue, you will end up on the same map if you are guesting or not. TBH I don’t even think it is relevant to the game any more.

Guesting across the Atlantic would be nice though.

Got a very grumpy boyfriend sitting next to me who is experiencing the same issue.

You know there are some interesting ‘opportunities’ for you to help distract him from that issue?

Blind condition applied wrongly

In theory it’s a bug, but if it clears the blind I don’t think it matters that much.

Then applying logic would mean you get fumble for a certain period of time, not blind for one shot. It’s far too easy to clear blind. Unfortunately some professions can also reapply it far too often.

Without the Mursaat doing what they did the Charr would probably have driven the humans in Kryta to extinction.

They may have done it to save themselves but their information came from the Flameseeker Prophecies. As Glint knew what was going to happen you could say it was all her fault.

Then who can you trust in this game? The only reason the Charr aren’t still trying to wipe out the humans is the dragons. Are the Norn any more trustworthy than the greedy and self centred Asura?

Might remnants of Mordremoth still be carried by Sylvari? Perhaps he still exists or perhaps he was set up by the Pale Tree?

There have been many instances of someone changing ideals and altering their world. This might be one, or it might be another stab in the back turncoat. We will just have to wait to find out.

That depends on your priorities, if you wanted Ascended Armor you would have saved up mats and made it. TBH there is little reason beyond raids and fractals to bother much with ascended armor.

Some people have 10 sets or more. Same with legendary weapons.

Have you tried a resistance build? I’ve been experimenting with one lately, and it’s kinda fun to ignore all conditions all the time.

Unfortunately not every class has that option.

To be honest I’m not sure if a balance is possible in this. it would be nice if it were more balanced but that would have knock on effects in PvE and sPvP.

They are not friends, they are temporarily allied to you. Remember, next week you might have to go out and kill them.

Actually this problem has existed since day 1. People could move server, ending up fighting their old friends, and many have done. There is also the option of creating a free account on any server, get it up to 60 then get access to their TS.

Yes, there are guilds that use spies. You aren’t going to be able to do much about it. Learn to live with it.

And they are working on a solution to introduce Bloodlust for the Desert Borderland. :-)

They would have to remove the present effects and put in bloodlust instead. While it may be preferable to some that holding over 50% of the shrines gave bloodlust I don’t see it happening soon.

Orbs have been discussed intermittently, the problem is people will just resume cheating.

You can simply resupply from EoTM or other maps and come back. That’s just silly.

Who the kitten does this?

Quite a few servers and guild groups. If we’re being told to resupply on another map and come back, it means all our stuff is low on supply or we need large amounts ASAP. Faster to waypoint to EBG keep and take the 1,800 supply untouched there then fighting over the 100 supply in camps or the 300 in towers.

Lots of servers do this from time to time. After a very hard fight mine rebuilt the walls in SM virtually instantly despite SM itself being empty. They carried supply from the Keeps on home border.

Making people carry supply would result in 2 things. Firstly zergy servers will upgrade things instantly. Second servers with PvP biased guilds won’t want to defend anything anyway, so their stuff will be paper.

Ranger/Druid Not part of Current Meta

The one thing you can guarantee with a ‘meta’ is that next week anet will nurf it into the ground and everyone will be crying foul into their helmets.

I have used a ranger for a long time in WvW. It works really well as long range damage.

It might not be the perfect zerg class, but it does have uses. It’s an outstanding skirmisher. It can certainly apply DPS to a single target.

I might not put it in an ‘elite’ guild group, but anything else and it’s fine.

Repair hammers… does anyone use them?

I did, the problem being they can keep golems for a karma train from a large server going indefinitely. Damaged golems? Just take them to the nearest tower/keep/supply depot and fix them as supply becomes available.

This makes them incredibly cheap. You could repair 20 golems with a single hammer. Compared to golem blueprints the cost of a hammer and some supply is negligible.

Which also unfortunately makes them too powerful, at least in my opinion. At the moment golems cannot be repaired, which means they are vulnerable to damage over time. You might not destroy one the first time it attacks a tower, but you can cause significant damage. Eventually it will be destroyed. Having the repair option you only have to retreat from combat and heal it up.

I have no problems with it being for stationary siege.

I think most of us understand that Guild Wars 2 is an incredibly complex piece of software that, sooner rather than later, is going to have problems like this.

The problem is many gamers have limited time and trying to do the daily and then switching cuts into that. The result is that some get kittened off.

Doing another daily is possible, but they aren’t the same, some require more effort than others and the rewards are not directly comparable, I would rather have the mats than the reward for doing the jumping puzzle.

It would be nice if the devs wrote a to check the logs and retrospectively give the correct reward when this happens. I understand that this may require a bit more effort than can be allowed.

It would be nice if there was a change over option to remove an errant item that allowed a dev to switch so that people to complete a different one instead. Again this would require some dev time.

I normally do 2 PvE and at least one WvW dailies, the preference being vistas and gathering. As I gather in Dry Top every day switching to the events was easy for me, once I knew that the gathering was broken.

Guardian can be easier but thief is pretty tough too. Depending on build all classes can be squishy in HoT areas.

My favourite for HoT areas is still the Ranger, Pet tanks almost all the damage.

HP’s don’t need a nerf… have you ever posted in LFG or just asked in map chat if someone needs a certain HP? I have never had to wait hours… or certainly not days to complete a HP. If you are, you are simply not trying to find a group. Also a lot of areas have HP trains that you can join.

It was Colin Johanson who was the previous director in charge of GW2, and was in charge of decisions in the game. He was replaced by Mike O’Brien months ago, who seems to have been trying to listen to fans and fix stuff in the game actively, including WvW. Not easy to do with WvW, considering the many years of seemingly being ignored by Colin…but at least we can say it’s finally being done. Here’s hoping he can bring it back to glory.

Colin was a disaster. Got far too excited about putting stuff in. Unfortunately he didn’t think if it would actually improve the game, or ask the players, most of whom would have told him his supposedly brilliant ideas were wrong.

WvW is now in a much better state than when he left. At present Mike isn’t putting in lots of visible improvements, simply because it would be bad for the game.

Combining servers has helped, although it would be good if they were to help balance further. Perhaps limit the server choice for ‘free’ players to lower ones?

The map changes have made the desert borderland much better.

The new scoring system has reduced the value of night capping and made every 2 hours a mini battle.

Is WvW dead? Not at all, I know many people have come back and are enjoying the game again.

I tend to agree, having a high priced item deters people from trying to do scribe. Much better to have some leveling recipes that aren’t very good but relatively cheap and then the big ones – which should be expensive – for places like Stonemist castle and the keeps.

Expensive shouldn’t mean a sink for lots of gold. I have suggested including Aetherium in recipes as a brake on the amount that guilds can produce in a week. The production of this is limited but a large number of guilds are already finding continued production worthless – they have nothing to use it for.

Condi trappers don’t normally use direct attacks, only their traps. anet have seen it as ‘reasonable’ that traps don’t reveal the toon that placed them. So they get ridiculous damage and permastealth.

I wrote this a bit ago, as an analysis of what might happen. It isn’t part of the official story line but it does ask some questions. I do know that Arenanet has said Mordremoth is really dead but they’re just the devs.

With Season 3 fast approaching I was wondering what others thought about these problems.


She looked around slowly. The dream was the same as last time she was here, almost. Of course, the other Sylvari here were different, but there was something else, something missing.

The presence that had haunted, hunted and tormented her for so long was gone. Her mind was finally clear of it’s influence.

It might have been a trick, the thing had done that before. It hid in the shadows, where you couldn’t see, then pounced on you when you were not expecting it. Even mother hadn’t ever suspected.

A sensation of someone familiar approached, someone she knew. A warmth that nobody else had ever presented to her. “Hello, Mother.”

“So, you’re back again?” The Avatar of the Pale Tree looked radiant, as she always did. “Are you intending to try that again?”

“Umm, no. The Asura Mechamagical tech I used in my last attempt worked perfectly. It vaporised my body completely and I’m still back here, again. The previous attempt worked too, I saw the remains of my body, there wasn’t much left. Tonn was extremely good at making bombs. I now have no other alternative but something is stopping me dying, at least permanently. Every time I end up back here at the start. I do not know who, or why, but they just won’t let me go. It seems that there is something or someone with needs of me yet.”

“If you cannot die permanently then there is no point in trying.”

Scarlett shook her head. “There was – escape. While I was dead I could not feel him. It set me free, even if only temporarily. Then I felt him go. I felt Trahearne go too, I’m… sorry.”

“The Commander of the Pact killed Mordremoth by destroying his mind in the dream. To prevent him returning through Trahearne they killed him too. It was Trahearne’s choice, to prevent Mordremoth returning.”

“I know. Mordremoth’s presence, in my mind, seems totally gone. Although I am not sure if he can ever be eliminated that easily or permanently.”

“You have knowledge?”

“Oh, yes. Mordy was… linked to my mind, so I could not escape. By doing so it allowed me to see things, memories from long ago. The Humans, Charr, Asura, Norn and others believe we were created to serve Mordremoth. What they do not see is that all of them were brought here for the same purposes. Each was brought to fight for a dragon, although none of them were really suitable. We are not even original, we are modifications of the others, made out of plant instead of flesh. That somehow made us individuals and also, in the end, unsuitable.”

Scarlett paused thoughtfully. "The dragons have been fighting for many millions of years, if not billions. They are not really creatures but forces of nature forged by the interaction of magic. They have destroyed each other many times, and each time they sleep, and reform, and wake to fight again. Eventually they will destroy each other again, and they will attempt to eliminate the races too. They look on us all as experimental failures and possible threats to their continued existance. If we prove too much of a threat the ones left could ally to eliminate us.

“The Charr used flaming cauldrons to destroy Ascalon, a crude method,but it worked. The Vizier used magic to destroy the charr, which also sank Orr. Both of these are extremely weak in comparison to what we face now. There is magics of such power we can barely comprehend. The dragons have used them before, many times. They could sear the surface of our world, almost destroy all life in an instant.”

“Mordremoth is dead.”

“If only it was that simple.” Scarlett shook her head. If Mordy could survive by planting a seed of itself in Trahearne, how much simpler would it be to do the same to each and every one of it’s willing subjects? There are untold thousands of them out there still. Any could have a seed implanted in them. And if you think you can tell the future by looking in the dream how much more could Mordy tell?"

“It could know they would find out about Trahearne? It was a trick?”

“I think so. All of the pieces fit. The only reason they managed to get to Mordy was Trahearne and Mordy could have killed him at any time. Just one little squeeze, Trahearne would have went squish and no entry for them to the dream. Sorry…

“Let’s say, it looks very suspicious. Even if there was nothing left the mind would still reform eventually, and the beasts memories still exist, they are part of the dream. His followers could summon him back too. Can even you see absolutely everywhere in the dream? There is far too much that we do not know, that maybe we can never know. Then there was that other Sylvari, the one who had never been in the dream. We may not be the first Sylvari.”

“I have not heard of him in a long time, perhaps he is no more, or, perhaps there are entire countries full of us, ones who have no knowledge of or taint from Mordremoth. How would you deal with the dragons?”

“Not by killing them all?” Scarlett considered. “It might be rather dangerous when they notice they are being eliminated one by one. Their only control is the level of available magic. If that is reduced enough then they will simply sleep, permanently. That could mean there may not be enough left for anyone to do anything useful with it, no gates, no spells, nothing. Somehow I doubt that a no magic option is going to be acceptable to the other races, especially not the Asura. Just eliminating them isn’t enough, it means each of those remaining will have even more power available. Eventually one will use it. The obvious alternative is to replace them with something else.”

“You mean like the human gods replaced Abbadon?”

“Exactly like that. Of course, the ones taking over would have to be seen as above any possible corruption or self interest. They would have to be absolutely trustworthy, just like me. OK, just not like me. Replacing the dragons with Charr would not be my preferred option.”

The Pale Tree considered this for a while before responding. “I can see that might be a problem, especially if it were a flame legion ones like Gaherron. Asura are often self centred and greedy. They do not consider the effects of their actions on others. Norn constantly drunk and fighting. Nor can it only be one race, for obvious reasons.”

“Humans are often underhanded and betray each other. And then there are us, none of us are perfect. We could end up with a much worse situation than present. Yet the human gods found one suitable person.”

The Avatar of the Pale Tree nodded. “You think this would work?”

“What is the alternative? All you need are the right ones. If it doesn’t work then, sooner or later, everyone dies. If you do nothing, sooner or later, everyone dies. The only reason the other races are alive now was Glint, and she isn’t available at the moment to hide anyone.”

The Pale Tree looked even paler than normal. “I think we need to discuss that with some others.”

“It would be useful, although I cannot be involved. I am seen as evil and tainted by them because of what I did. None of them would trust me. I expect the commander, and others, would try to kill me on sight, and I would not blame them. There is, one other thing.”

“And that is?”

“The gods, where did they come from? Theoretically the Asura don’t have any because they see the universe differently from other races. The Humans and Charr do, although the latter rejected theirs, and the Norn spirits. I am wondering if we should suspect their origin too.”

“And me?”

“Maybe, or perhaps there is always something that will fill a vaccum? In the end nobody is above suspicion. Sometimes there is no alternative, you just have to accept and work with what you have available. Even if it is as obnoxious, self centred and nasty as I can be. Then it is down to eternal vigilance. Even if we were to get rid of them all they are what is holding the alliance together. We might be better off keeping the dragons.”

Second is WvW not quite SPvP but not quite PVE either its a combination of both.

Question, have you played much WvW?

If not then perhaps you shouldn’t make comments like this.

WvW is NOT PvE, that is what the devs had problems with. They thought that as it is a large scale sandboxed PvP game it was closer to PvE than PvP. It is also the reason why it nearly failed when they brought out the new Desert Borderland map.

WvW is PvP, on a large scale. Huge numbers of real people fighting each other. Anything that might look like PvE stuff is simply there to slow it down a little for defence. Finally Anet has accepted the light, let’s not encourage them to go back.

And some PvP maps have PvE elements too. Does that make PvP the same as PvE? Of course not.

Oh, and I’m not ‘afraid of HoT’. I am concerned that the skill and trait changes made during HoT unbalances the game in Pre HoT PvE maps and in WvW against FTP people.

That depends on your interpretation of the word ‘free’. There is the ‘you buy one, you get one free’ offer alternatively known as BOGOFF.

You bought GW2, you got Season 1 and 2 free. You buy HoT, you get Season 3 part 1 free.

If you log in while it’s available, IE before the second instalment comes out.

Anet employees would love to be able to work, designing the great content they do, and give it all away for free. Unfortunately you live in the real world, as do they, and that means someone has to hand over the cash so they can live, eat, pay the bills, feed the kids and pets, curse the tax man, etc, etc…

There really is no mental health problem here. I have switched servers several times, and fought against previous allies. There are a few I try to avoid killing but otherwise this is a game, you aren’t killing real people permanently.

All people fighting alongside your server are allies, not friends. Friends might be people you play with in your guild or people on your world you play with in WvW regularly. If you end up with a different server paired with yours and against those former allies they are obviously dirty double crossing ‘baskets’ and you should kill them all. Show no mercy!

Then, if they rejoin your alliance then they have seen the evil of their ways.

I would argue that small guilds aren’t dead, yet. Anet did make it hard for them when they introduced HoT and made the Guild Hall require such a huge investment in gold and time.

In PvP allowing preset teams to mix with single players can be a problem with mixed Q.

Teams can mean you are playing with friends, people you know.

You get guild teams that play together regularly using coms software such as Teamspeak. That gives them a huge advantage over solo players forming a team.

With solo players you end up in a ‘team’ who don’t know each other and may not have effective communication.

For even remotely fair gameplay you need random group and team options.

As a fan of fights instead of watching one guy pressing 2 on cata, I have one ultimate solution: remove the walls!

I’m actually all for this. To be completely honest, I’d be okay if they made an entirely seperate game mode. One where instead of putting caps on how many players could be on a map they instead give you the option to que for fights against groups similar to how many players are in your squad when you que. Three teams of 10,15,20 etc….but no objectives with walls or gates or siege, just a big kitten capture ring in the middle of an open field.

… And they’d call that “The Obsidian Sanctum’s Courtyard”.

Not the same thing man, you’re restricted to fighting guilds in your matchup. Fighting the same people gets boring.

A proper large scale GvG PvP map would be an obvious answer, pity Arenanet haven’t bothered making one.

Firestorm didn’t originally cover such a large area, probably needs a bit of a nurf.

It’s frustrating how they didn’t gave guild halls an OS sized arena… Well, if actually stop to think, the arena is linked to the pvp upgrades, so it’s clear that it was meant to be more a countyard than a obsidian sanctum (if you know what I mean).

Obsidian Sanctum wasn’t never really suitable for purpose.

The Guild hall arena was advertised as suitable, but even from the first images it was obvious that it would barely contain enough room for 10.

They could have made it larger. There was room to at least double the diameter. That would have made it much more useful. The author Terry Pratchett created a character called BS Johnson, well known for badly scaled designs, the Arena could have been one of his.

Problem still is would it be used? My PvE guild doesn’t use the arena at all and the WvW one only for rare practice use. I still think Arenanet would have been better off making a couple of large scale PPK PvP maps.

I was in WvW on my first day in GW2, that was 3 days before official release. I was very low level, but back then most of us were., some had got the 7 days before official release but they were not that much higher.

And what we got was revelation. The problem was the devs didn’t see it the same way. for a long time they just seemed to do occasional bug fixes, when they could be bothered. They obviously confused WvW with PvE, it used the same weapons, armor and jewellery.

So they tried to upgrade it, using the same tactics as PvE. The result, as many will remember was a disaster ending with the new borderlands map.

Eventually I got told of a different game that promised a WvW like experience. Well, I tried it, months on end of grind, trying to get my levels up and get equipment sorted. The only PvP I got was when some ganker killed me while I was handing in a quest, afk or farming PvE mobs.

I decided to try WvW again. Land of milk and honey it may not be, but it’s a kitten sight better than the other game I tried.

The devs have made changes, but they have consulted on them. The changes have been slow and methodical but that’s good because it allows testing. They also brought back the Alpine borderland.

Attitudes in game seem better than they have for a long time. I hope they didn’t leave it too late. I also hope that people don’t just abandon the game when it might be coming back.

Considering the alternatives out there, there is no real competition, not yet.

Get yourself a permanent bank access. Buy HoT if you haven’t got it already.

Put bank access into free account wide slot, put tonics in bank.

You now have access to tonics everywhere, excludes tonics bound to character.

Note, this might be a bit expensive…

The problem with VR is it would require two different views, one for each eye. That might not be as difficult to provide as they are trying to make out.

Also as far as gw2 is continue of the original gw1, give us atleast few obsidian armors! The necro one, warrior one, maybe assassin one.

The female necro one, with nickers on show to everyone?

I didn’t really like any of them, eventually settled on female ranger. I had created one that looked like an American Indian woman. Dyed red it looked like biker leathers.
