In short, it will be ready when it’s ready.
Shortbow and mace most ready now.
WvW is always there for people who enjoy it and know how to play it. There’s nothing dead in a map with a queue to join – maybe BLs might not have 24/7 actions but once there’s a fight there, tons of people move to BLs and fight.
I play WvW every single night since slightly more than a year – Being part of a WvW guild (not random guilds with pug-roster) is something more fun than anything else in our opinion.
So you do peak time on a world. You are also probably spending most of your time in EB too.
Elsewhere or off peak and it can mean servers are almost devoid of life. Even on T1 there can be periods where the borderlands maps are virtually empty.
If you left because you didn’t like the way the game was then HoT is more of the same, although harder and has less balance.
Doing the masteries does take time, and will slow your progress. You won’t be through to the end game in a few hours.
The storyline is interesting but shorter than I would have liked, the main meta events are impressive but require a lot of people, getting into an active one can be an issue at times.
Raids are tough, but the first one isn’t yet all there. You would need a strong group to get through.
Had your main interest been PvE there wouldn’t be any reason not to try it. More content is on the way but it may take some time to arrive.
WvW though…. If this is your main interest don’t buy HoT yet, just log in and ask on your borderland.

How about a nice cloud glider?
Would also like to see a Tempered Spinal Blades option.
I don’t think that glider skins should be free or rewards. They have no effect on gameplay and are one area where anet can earn money without too many complaints
Legendary weapons use exotic runes, this should give enough indication as to what you are going to have.
To be honest I don’t think Legendary armor is worth the hype it has got, unless they include some way of removing the runes free or switching them on the fly. Even with free rune removal you would need to carry several sets of runes.
Even taking that into account how many people actually change armor sets? Most will slap on a zerker or condi set and that’s it.
I bought three top of the range HoT expansions, I do have 3 accounts.
PvE HoT is Great, especially the gliding, although the raid wing is too tough for me. I do suffer from fibromyalgia and polyosteoarthritis which reduce my capability. Had Anet thought beyond the ultra fit keyboard jockeys then they might have included levels in raids so more people could actually do them.
Having to do the Masteries was a pain. I made Nevermore on one account and the requirement to max out all of the masteries was too much. I didn’t enjoy doing it.
The problem is the WvW ‘improvements’ were a disaster, especially the elite specializations. This is one game mode where I am limited by my disability but enjoy. Many of my friends from WvW have left.
So it depends.
First they have to fix WvW and balance it. WvW IS NOT PvE. WvW is large scale PvP.
Secondly it has to be reasonably priced for the content. Not a give away to those who are effectively freeloaders and those who have paid already have to pay again.
Thirdly they really have to rethink specializations. The changes they made meant the mobs in Central Tyria are effectively trivial and the whole area boring. Balance the players down to the old areas and then nurf the HoT mobs a little to compensate.
id be thrilled if anet could find a way to do that which does not affect legit players but im not convinced it would be possible. maybe they should buff the gems to gold conversion rate a bit and make the penalties harsher for gold buying. it might sway some gold buyers away which would make it less profitable and perhaps gold sellers might go away that way
If you are caught buying gold, you lose that gold amount from your account. That’s pretty harsh I say. Person spent real money on it, and now they have to go and deal with the issue. Either ask for money back, or worse, a charge back. OR even accept fate that they spent gold on nothing.
Quite simple, people who bought gold, or items, know they have broken the license agreement. Remove the gold from their account or the item, then lock it for at least a week.
For many losing access to their account for a week will be more punishing than losing the gold/item.
Do not remove gold they have traded on the TP. This penalizes another player who is in all probability not involved with the gold purchase.
If there isn’t enough gold in the account anet could cap their gold until it is payed back to the system, or remove items from the account and sell on the TP, deleting the gold.
Another option would be to move the account in limbo and allow the gold buyer to buy gems to unlock it. They would have to be very careful about doing this.
Putting in a peer governed level of spam control might help reduce the levels and give players a sense of control. It may also massively reduce the need for anet employees to police this.
Another option would be a tick box so that strangers are suppressed after a first whisper unless you respond to them.
I have tried that, it isn’t really an issue. The game will download the vital stuff but will then postpone the zones updates until you try to enter one. If you do try to enter a zone that hasn’t been updated it will ask, You can then continue in the present zone until downloading is complete and it will then transport you.
That was a bit ago, so may have changed. It seemed to work very well indeed.
I’m not in the low servers but I agree totally with your post.
The first problem is that the populations of three worlds would have to be moved out, not one.
Beyond that is getting another world where everyone will fit without unbalancing the table. This would sort itself out as combined servers climbed to match their new level. Unless removed it would also leave a ‘ghost worlds’ at the bottom.
It would be nice to know the average number of players stats of each of the WvW servers.
SkyShroud, it seems that during the recent AMA it was mentioned that the big overhaul isn’t going to happen. The big update was delayed, became a bigger update, then delayed again. Then they realized they should stop digging the big hole they were in.
Instead they are going to put in improvements they have, when they are ready. Check the report on dulfy about the AMA if you are interested or read it on reddit.
(edited by Serious.7083)
Has no one responded because this is obvious to everyone but the devs? . I mean it’s a list of everything I could write down in under one minute that should have been obvious already….
They are not responding as most are ignoring you.
Obviously you have your heart in large scale guild vs guild encounters. Unfortunately WvW was never intended for this sort of activity. That makes your original post highly biased.
The PvE people you are speaking of don’t enter WvW as often as you might believe. The people who are there are WvW fanatics who are forced to do PvE in order to finance their time in WvW. If you really could earn enough in WvW then everything would be fine for them and they wouldn’t have to visit PvE. What you have written, intentional or not, is highly insulting.
WvW people should receive better rewards, but equally based on participation, not the way they play.
Note that I am trying to be nice. My original post might have read ‘kitten off!’ or words to that effect.
Remove Sado… err StoneMist and put the nice open area there. Include some walls/non-lethal traps and a capture the flag event that resets on a 10 min timer during peak times only.
Capturing the flag and transporting it to your home area gives 10 points on PPT
Step back and pass round the popcorn and cola to the spectators…
I would rather not have guilds with no interest in the PPT aspect of the game on home border. To be really honest they should have a special map made.
Actually, could large scale PvP like this be turned into E-sports? I think so.
They are there, it doesn’t affect WvW negatively and allows PvP people to complete their dailies quicker.
TBH I’m happy to leave these as they may encourage PvE peeps to at least visit WvW. who knows, some decent ones might just stay?
I would like a greater selection of dailies and for more to be put up, say 5 or 6 each of PvE, PvP and WvW with the limit being you can complete any 4 from each.
I hope this helps. I’ve done this collection before and you need the exotic version of this ring. The only place it drops is in the mini dungeon of Rhand. Best bet is to get a Mesmer to port you in. The boss at the end drops it rarely. So best to kill him at least once a day. He drops a chest as well as a champ chest but the champ chest only spawns once a day. It’s an under water fight so best bring a toon that is good at fighting under water. You’ll also get the chalice for the collection to drop here. The chalice drops far quicker though.
That is Rhendak’s Signet, not Royal Signet of Doric which is only available as Ascended
Then you didn’t salvage them. As I said, if you had salvaged them it would have unlocked the collection spot first. And it wouldn’t remove it.
One second. Royal Signet of Doric is ascended. All Ascended rings are account bound on acquire. That means it isn’t necessary to salvage or do anything else at all for them to go into the achievements collections, it should happen automatically.
Think this is a bug, opening a ticket is the best option.
Getting ascended equipment is fairly easy already. Once you have maxed your crafting disciplines, a player with enough free time can craft an ascended piece in 2 days (possibly even one day) by simply farming SW. A more casual player can easily craft one in 8 or 9 days (by simply farming the mats to craft deldrimor ingots / spiritwood / etc, which doesn’t take too long every day).
I think you are being a bit optimistic. An ascended item was intended as a not so rich person’s Legendary. And yes, you can make one Deldrimor steel ingot a day, and spiritwood plank.
BUT only one, After that you have to pay on the TP. A sword is likely to take you 9 days of farming.
The same cannot be said for cloth and leather, it is far more difficult to obtain these as they have to be mostly obtained through salvaging drops. Because of an issue early in the game, well before they had even thought of ascended stuff, anet made it so you would get mostly drops based on your character level, not the level of the area you were in. This madkes it much harder for people to obtain lower level cloth and leather than wood and metals.
Now I’m sure you would claim you could farm the mats for a piece of Damask in one day, go and try it. You would need 36 bolts of Damask for a light armor set. Then you need leather too. That could mean a couple of months hard farming, probably far more for a ‘casual player’.
Armor and weapon chests are already available in Raids after you manage to kill the Vale Guardian once, although you do need to spend your reward tokens for them. Anet are supposedly working on other options for obtaining them too.
The other side of this is that, except for raids and fractals, there is really no need to have ascended armor or weapons. In Fractals you only need them for the Agony Resist slots.
There aren’t any of those things in Central Tyria.
Exactly the problem with Central Tyria. Boring and dumb mobs even at a place like Orr.
A lot of this problem comes from them making new, more powerful, mobs for the new areas. They then gave us a load of swanky new powerful skills/abilities/specializations to deal with them.
The problem is the old mobs are massively under powered compared to the new ones, which means they are boring.
Then some people one year into the game thought the Orrian mobs were overpowered.
To be honest I think that a Raid normal mode would help in getting more people through raids, wouldn’t take that much effort either. Remove the timers on bosses, make the updrafts always available at Gorseval. Would need some reduction in rewards though. Achievements only in Hard mode? Real problem is a lack of training opportunity, perhaps being able to train on any boss, with no reward, would be useful?
OK. So you have 2 sides in a matchup with 20 people on the map, third side gets over the map limit. They can now earn points on 2 maps meaning they not only completely outnumber the other two they can earn points on both maps while the others are stuck on one.
PPK I disagree, the whole idea of WvW is holding things, not just running around fighting battles, if that was the idea then you might as well have a flat field, which I suspect you would find a great option. Holding objectives has to be worth more than just killing enemies.
Reducing the number of worlds might help short term. Just removing the bottom 3 servers may not help at all as there are very few people playing on them. Remove enough to make a difference and you might find that there is a large reduction in the number of worlds, it may need everything below 18, or even 15.
What you have to do is firstly make the lower tiers as attractive as T1, that is one of the major problems at present, and secondly make WvW more profitable than present. At the moment WvW is a money sink, many WvW players are effectively forced to go farm PvE simply to earn enough gold to keep going in WvW.
It’s fairly obvious they know this and are looking into or already developing changes
(edited by Serious.7083)
Can we have mount threads in instead… I’m so sick of the mastery fail arguments, at least dead horses being beat are fun to look at.
Masteries are mostly ok,the game badly needed a post lvl cap advancement system,
and now it’s got one. They are account bound, and are supposed to take you a few weeks to max them all up.
But it did have one of sorts, you leveled and you got another skill point that could be used in game to buy things.
Now you do all of the leveling, and I have done to complete Nevermore, and then, nothing?
This was one thing that went all the way through GW1 and most of the way through GW2 – untouched for a reason. It might be a small change, and I don’t know about anyone else, but it certainly reduced the game for me. Getting XP was worth something and now it isn’t. There is no point to getting XP any more.
Mine are
- autoloot
- dynamic map capacity (less map for less player, more map for more player)
- man-power balance/repopulation
- CC reduction/better stability for all
- gliding
What’s your priorities?
1: Manpower balance
2: Skills balance between classes
3: Accessability, reduce map complexity, provide ways of getting around more quickly
4: Get rid of PvE trash.
5: Reduce guild buffs/ nurf banners again. Reduce costs for Guild WvW items.
If any time left install autoloot free if players have HoT and have unlocked it in PvE. This should be easy.
No matter how appealing gliding in WvW is the time available could always be better spent elsewhere.
5 heavies might be a guild team, same with lights, it would automatically put them with an enemy team of similar level.
Mind, if they are randoms they should be better balanced.
You’re seeing a lot of complaints and few constructive suggestions because there’s no easy solution to approach the problems. Each time new content is released, it adds to the complications by introducing new variables to account for- thus making fixing and balancing more challenging.
I have seen huge amounts of constructive suggestions that would improve the game, the problem is the devs seem to prefer to spend their time on reddit.
That is at least partially because the forums were apparently programmed by some dodgy builders and the devs are unwilling to spend 10 mins on improving them.
That means 99% of them never see the suggestions made, or the complaints.

Me no have wizzy hat
There seems to be no female orientated version of any armor or outfit, even the very few that seem to be are just male ones.
That is a shame, it would be nice for female asurans to have some feminine clothing options.
Then I have the strange idea of one of mine, who wears scallywag armor, running about screaming ‘get yer buns out!’
:s
a tick box to only show soulbound/accountbound items would be nice
I now use 4K too, it’s so small that the text is almost unreadable on screen for me unless I lean close to it. On a 1080P monitor it was and is fine at normal.
but the patch won’t magically pop up by demanding it now
anet pretty much planned late and delivered late, the result is wvw rapid decline with no counter measureA.Net said that WvW was going to be the main focus after HoT dropped and they were working on a patch then back then (more than just new BL’s). If it comes later this year, it may be too late to save WvW aspect of GW2. It is that simple.
If they want players in WvW, they neeD to work on it and listen to the WvW players, not PvE players.
http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/
We overscoped a big “WvW 2.0? awesome update that was taking forever … so now we will ship lots of small incremental improvements that get us to where we want to be, and so y’all know we are actually working on it! Some of the things done over the last year and a half are reusable, and we’ll get those to a ship-able state.
Seems the WvW big patch is not happening, wheel dropped of anet’s delivery wagon.
Population imbalance will resolve itself when they fix the other issues with the game ( including too many servers).
<snip>
Considering Obrien is now calling the shots for the game and is the one who thinks WvW players = PvE, I don’t think I can stand to stick around any longer to watch this painfully dwindle away a slow excruciating death, it has been nauseating enough to watch as it is.
Just because everything else is right doesn’t mean server imbalance will magically cure itself.
Many guilds and players have left recently to try another game – I am one of them. Basically I just sign in and farm my home instance each day. Anet has lost trust from me and these other people and it will take a lot of effort to get them back. I have spent more time on the forums than in game recently.
So far it has been, this is the plan, lets go full steam ahead regardless of anything. Tracks broken, keep going… Hopefully that will change, it has to. Unfortunately promises of lots of jam tomorrow just don’t cut it any more.
Hopefully Obrien will have gotten some education from his people. If not, last person please put the lights out before leaving…
So effectively add more PvE? No thanks.
NPCs are not players, they do not think or act the same. There will never be the same challenge from taking down an NPC in a zerg as a real person.
So we should just remove Elite specs from WvW or give everyone access to it like in PvP…
Players have always had to level their classes to unlock class abilities. I get that some parts of the system are universal such as WvW levels but why should leveling an elementalist also level every other class on an account?
This isn’t PvP with the objective of creating an equal playing field. In WvW players have to earn their class skills before they can use them whether it be going from 1 to 80 or leveling the elite spec. This is the same system in most MMOs and the same one since day one in GW2.
Question, why do players have to game at a disadvantage while leveling in WvW? or use sup par equipment? Really it just doesn’t make sense.
It does make sense in PvE, the problem is anet identified WvW and PvE to be effectively the same.
At present any character being put into WvW gets automatically leveled to 80. It would make sense if all of their equipment stats were also leveled to 80 too, regardless of the actual equipment carried.
It isn’t PvP? I think you are wrong. Actually it’s large scale PvP. An equal playing field is exactly what we should be trying for here, it would mean that a player’s personal skill mattered more than what equipment they have.
Most professions gain over a similarly equipped and skilled opponent without HoT. For this reason Elite Specs should not have been introduced into WvW or PvP at all.
Then good luck getting anybody to buy HoT.
Whole point is WvW only peeps, and PvP ones too got very little positive stuff out of HoT and a great deal of negative. Worse, anyone on a free account is at a disadvantage in both.
Then a free account can play WvW forever with the same stats that we started with. I think they were a bit too generous with that. A month of free play would have been better.
Right – they have them in PvP but not WvW? How would you do that?
A.Net can’t even fix the most basic things (like arrow carts being used even w/o line of sight) and you want them to do something complicated?
As this relates to WvW I omitted PvP, that is a different environment. it has it’s own stats provided by an amulet.
Actually I would make the change there too, you have free accounts in both areas and those are disadvantaged.

FYI They are aware of this issue and supposed to be looking into it already.
I finished Nevermore a few weeks back, seems the name points to you never more making another legendary.
Still there are going to be people with enough tenacity/pigheadedness to go and make another one anyway. I made 11 of the old legendaries before this one, sold 3 of those.
Why? I was bored…. :p
This has been how things are well before HoT. Typically those that are dead should WP.
Not always possible, and many times I have lost event participation by rezzing and running back.
Sometimes the nearest waypoint is a huge distance away so there may be no chance of you getting back before the event ends.
If the rez point is right by the event or close and there is a good time before it completes then it’s fine to run back, otherwise it’s not. Really people shouldn’t rez just because they can, you have to take everything into consideration and then decide. I rez if it is safe to do so and won’t negatively affect the event.
Then at one point I rezzed an anet dev, wouldn’t have avoided that for anything. Dev, I owns your soul, mwahahaha! >:D
Hmmm interesting, after todays patch leaving the PvP lobby from the PvP menu takes you to LA now and not where you were previously…..
I had 3 Alts parked at the Flax farm in Verdant Brink and took them to PvP yesterday, now they start in LA.
Just tried it with one character. Back in Verdant Brink – worked perfectly. Must be a bug.
Sometimes if you go through a combination of two WvW/PvP lobby/guildhall it will port you to LA as it has lost your position in the main world map.
Someone bought me the ‘Royal Pass’ as a Christmas box, tried it, been effectively stored ever since. They really need to make a return option on these so the pass notes your previous location and give you the option to port back if you use it again.
(edited by Serious.7083)
All other things being equal you are more likely to do better with HoT than without in WvW.
Some do not get as much benefit than others though and many warriors are better off without the elite spec.
Most professions gain over a similarly equipped and skilled opponent without HoT. For this reason Elite Specs should not have been introduced into WvW or PvP at all.
Ascended Armor, Fractals and Circuitous Logic
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Serious.7083
A full set of ascended armor and weapons increases your total stats by less than 2% against exotics. On a purely stats base in PvE they are not worth it. PvP uses it’s own stats system so ascended are no better than whites there. Where that little bit extra can pay off is in a raid or WvW.
If you do fractals you will definitely want ascended equipment, they along with legendary are the ones with agony resist slots. The other side of this is that low level fractals don’t need any and you can get by with putting them on jewellery for a good bit.
For legendary armor I doubt if this will be any benefit at all. The problem is the Runes. You put them on and, unless they come up with a nifty remove or switch option. you are stuck with them.
I would make sure you have attempted all of the professions you are interested in before deciding on one to use in fractals, I switched a couple of times and ended up doing fractals and dungeons on guardian.
alternate solution: stop holding down space bar to try and jump higher (your jump is the same height no matter what)
So I expect you still double tap to dodge then?
I got rid of double tap within hours of starting to play, it’s been disabled ever since. This is the same principle, sometimes a small improvement makes a big difference.
Certainly I can sympathise with those who are not interested in raiding, understandably a huge portion of players just want to relax and unwind. But what really disheartens me is the level of toxicity that’s arising from certain players who want something, but aren’t willing to put in the time and effort to earn it.
There is toxicity from both sides in this.
I certainly sympathize with people who want a challenge, but GW2 wasn’t intended as that challenge. A very high number of players still have problems with the basics and their chances of running all three raid bosses are approximately nil.
A question then comes up as to precisely how many people have completed the raid wing? I suspect that proportionately to the numbers of people playing GW2 there are very few.
A company that targets spending towards a small percentage of it’s customers isn’t maximizing the use of it’s resources. Anet would be much better off creating a couple of new dungeons or fractals or even PvP maps.
With only a few days in the borderlands this is preliminary
It does seem bigger, but some of this is the drastically reduced size of spawn and the removal of crafting stations. It is far more complex than it needs to be.
The main issue is getting around, the game needs some means of traveling faster to south and north. I would suggest putting the waypoints back in the two keeps and making it that the owners of these, whoever they are, can use them.
To more balance this the waypoint should have to be built. Move the present waypoints to T1, and only allow travelling to the keep waypoints at T3.
The gimmicks, like burning and invisibility do not help, neither does the laser cannon event in the middle of the map.
Suggest replacing the laser cannon with another fort, with a waypoint, but which does not upgrade. This could enable the free supply. Remove all red and yellow foes from this area.
At the moment my world’s borderland is almost empty, there isn’t enough people on to do anything.
Oh great, now hordes of glider pilots can jump over fort walls and cap without having to break in…
Needs a lot of work before this could be done, if ever.
I tend to agree with this, the upgrades should be slowed a bit, perhaps more reliant on dolyaks too.
A delay in the opening of the waypoints would be another good option, perhaps pushing them back a bit to 1st tier?
It is still possible to roam, the camps aren’t that much more difficult to solo, providing you are careful. Sentries are easy.
Anything more than that gets difficult for a single roamer or small group. The main problem is finding your way around.
WvW is the only area where this is a problem. I know many other people were looking forward to having this as a WvW item. It certainly did not say ‘PvE’ only in the blurb but I guess that is just another disappointment from Anet.
Hopefully they will sort this out fast, along with a lot of other bugs and issues in WvW
for raiding celestial will probably be the best compromise, rather than changing armor regularly to face different foes. It will also perform adequately in PvE and WvW, giving a little more survivability than zerker.
Unfortunately the healing stat isn’t strong enough to demand a set of Cleric armor.
For dungeons the meta is basic, stack with melee weapons, pull mobs and DPS while blasting water fields to heal if needed, I doubt if there is much room there for Druids.
I think mostly this was not what we were expecting, the Ranger is seen as a ranged damage class, which it does fairly well.
During my time playing Druid I ended up with the petless bug, to be honest I didn’t miss the pet as long as in a group. Made a new Druid.
Some of the skills are a bit low on graphic pzazz, a tree would be nice instead of a flower. The beam seems understated, but that is fine in PvP or WvW, it means you get noticed less. It would be nice if this and some of the other skills were boosted a bit, particularly healing.
Time in celestial avatar form seemed a little short. It’s very difficult to get used to an alternate skills set if they vanish after a few seconds. I would suggest increasing the time to that of the Necro Death Shroud.
It’s good but the Ranger still really needs it’s melee combat buffed and this does nothing for fighting invisible enemies.
What is the point of a skill meant to reveal invisible when it needs a target?
And the reveal is much too short.
Really there is no point in taking this. remove the target requirement and allow the pet to reveal in an area.
Does anybody use the rest of the ranger shouts, except maybe for “Search and Rescue!”?
Would be nice if most of these got replaced with something actually useful. Please feel free to give suggestions.
Would be good if traps could be traited to reveal too.
How abouts pet names?
I like my Rich Gold Vein raven. I’ve also seen a Lawn Moa, a spider called Peter Parker, a drake named Godzilla Jr, Headcrab the devourer and a pig known as Bacon Mc Oink
My pet Moa was actually called Lawn after a guildie suggested that there was no lawn moas in the game.
I have a toon with the name Serious Leyloo King waiting to be exchanged for a Revenant when the expansion comes out. Works better if you say it fast.
Lol Wanze….I was nowhere near serious.
He was nowhere near me…
Snowflakes, at least the T1 tiny snowflake, from wintersday gathering tools and home instance.

Staff too ranger themed for me.. But axe, holy <3 <3
Staff would more suit a Necromancer than ranger, at least in my opinion.
