"Ktrain" PvErs in EOTM

For the most part I enjoy EotM. Its down fall as far as Im concerned is the team balancing, which, to be quite frank, is appalling. You have the winning wvw teams against the placed teams, instead of a pvp style where people are give a colour at the start. So now we have one team that steam rollers over everything in sight, whilst the rest try and pick up what they can.

Sure I hear comments that that coudn’t work, mainly due to spying on other teams, but as far as I can see that is mitigated by the fact that EotM is a far faster moving map than the general wvw maps, and often forgets that green as an excellent early warning system.

(btw, ill probably get trolled from the dominant servers who are always on top for this—but thats life)

I loved the idea of the ranger class, and struggled with it in WvW for a very, very long time, but at the end of the day I had to say, ‘reality check’. I got fed up with the same lame excuses about rangers, so moved on. why choose a limited class, when the other classes offer so much more?

…because playing Ranger = Expert Mode in GW2

You forgot the mandatory LTP. Your welcome to think that, and good luck to you, your going to need it!

Personally I do have a ranger, and yes I have played it in WvW, the good point is that they can reach most anything on a wall for coverage purposes. But overall the Ranger needs to be re-worked to better take advantage of the Ranger roll. since the patch it seems to me that the ranger traits have become more spread out that can be effectively used to build a strong character. When I think of ranger I think of range, therefore the use of bows, and guns. Not greatswords like every other class in the game. If you’re not using a GS you’re not putting out Max damage. As mentioned above piercing should be a natural for rangers, as well as velocity, and just maybe the skills to be close to using ice bows, since bows are our trademark, thats where the power should be.

I find it ironic that everyone assumes dangers should use bows, when Rangers in fiction and reality never used bows.

Did you ever see Aragorn use a bow?

Didn’t see Aragorn (the real one from LOTR) in WvW, so am sort of struggling on your reasoning.

still don’t understand why mega server was not just added as extra server next to the existing servers. use mega as an underflow option when you enter a low population map (give popup like when server was ready to get out of overflow) so you can opt to join there.

A lot of people are saying this. The real reason we have megaservers is to save Anet money. The fewer map instances, the less server resources are needed, the more money Anet saves.

It may very well be the case to save money, although I doubt that myself. I think the fault is in the mind set that has set in. GW1 had an elegant and simple approach to servers, best exemplified by big events like Halloween. The servers would be numbered sequentially, and in essence when one filled up, another was created and acted as the ‘overflow’.
If you wanted to get in and meet up with a group, it was easy—‘hey guys, meet up in server **, see you there’. Easy, simple, effective—everything you want.

But with GW2 you hear—‘cant be done—technologically imposable’, and I think people are buying into this. There’s a huge difference between can’t, and won’t because, hey, that was GW1, it has a 1 in it, we don’t want to do that because, this is GW2 and has a 2 in it.

Five and a half to Nine hours gap between the Uber hard world bosses. Are you guys serious. Im pretty even tempered (most ) of the time, but thinking like this drives me wild. Sorry, but this is ridiculous.

I assume you want people to actually attend these things, and yet go out of your way to put barriers to prevent them to achieve this.

The following extra-hard world bosses will occur at specific times, interrupting the standard rotation:

Karka Queen (Southsun Cove)

Tequatl the Sunless (Sparkfly Fen)

Stop Organized Groups in EOTM

Shadey Dancer.2907

I was on an EotM map very recently, and popped in half way through. Heard the map chat about a guild raid and went to see what the fuss was about, and kind of predicted there would be this sort of post eventually.

It was a small guild raid, and know the guild as they were up until recently part of my server. There was a lot of crying on whom they were etc etc. There was only about 15-20 of them playing with our 50 man plus zerg (kudos to you guild guys, it was pretty awesome to watch)

What these people failed to realize was, they were giving everyone a lesson in how an organized group can work as. Even without TS, it is still possible to run effective groups (just slightly less so, but that’s just my opinion).

Moral of the story is—-if you don’t like dying, don’t do WvW (EotM)—-your going to die whether you like it or not eventually (even more so if you are upscaled)

Ok, so as from the world sync on bosses, im in a world of confusion, and if im in a world of confusion, you get bet others are feeling the same.

It was my understanding of the mega server system that they would be on a schedule. So a few days ago i was leveling up in Blazeridge Stepps, the Shatterer pre was up, so took the opportunity to swap to my main and come back to have a go at it. Gues what—came back and—-no Shatterer—-no pre, not even the promp that it had recently been defeated O-O, apparently on re-logging id be transferred to another mega server with no Shatterer, and judging from the map chat, I wasn’t alone. Guilds were separated and re-loggers kept from doing it.

I would really love to have a go at the wurm and teq (formerly piken square—-i say formerly as server identity no longer exists) but the way things are looking at the moment, I have a slim chance and no chance——-and Slim just left the building!

If you get a message, which you want to report and block whilst in WvW, especially EotM (Edge of the Mists) it disables your ability to steer in any direction. This is not a problem on wvw—-but on EotM a death sentence. You have either the choice of stop running (kinda obvious I know) and lose touch with the zerg, or chance that you can do it before running over a cliff.

AP, a real measurement of player ability?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shadey Dancer.2907

Shadey Dancer.2907

Does it mean your going to be great at the game in every sphere of course not. I have had much more fun on most of my dungeon runs with very low AP players than with very high AP players. Most of the very high AP players I have found to be good guys, with one or two trolls which I hope never to see in this lifetime again! Dungeon runs with high AP players feel more serious and more business like. Iv left high AP parties in disgust on occasion, on the way a minority treat low AP players, without giving them a chance. No excuse whatsoever for bad behavior.

Up until very recently I have never asked for a AP rating on dungeon runs. Unfortunately with the nerfing of the troll in HotW P1, and being on the brunt end of party wipes and last man standing, anet has forced my hand in that instance to do so, mainly because with a moderate amount of AP there is a chance they know what they are doing. Let me tell you, I HATE having to do that, but can only play the hand anet deals me. Wether, it needing nerfing or not, im not going to go into, but there it is—-sorry if that upsets anyone out there.

But please don’t paint all high AP achievers with the same brush, just like in everything else, there are good apples and bad ones. Its just that they become more prominent when they have a lot of AP behind their name.

Just a thought that came to me.
No-one begrudges people who played GW1 for getting their achievements. They worked hard for them. So why are people begrudging people from getting their achievements in GW2, through this cap? The argument that anet is doing me a favor with this cap, i find quite frankly patronizing, that it will somehow free up my time to do other things. Actually, they are probably correct in that aspect on reflection. On some of the low ebbs, the daily/monthly is the only thing that made me play the game, and my garden could use some TLC!

Not sure what to make of this either. I d have gone the other way, and made them more, to allow others to get achievements——if they want them. Sure there are people complaining that they don’t have time to do them. But then, by the same token it could be argued that people who have done accomplishments on mega bosses shouldn’t have them because, others didn’t have the time/ opportunity to do it. Sorry that argument just doesn’t wash. As in in real life there are some people gifted, some less so; some with more time, some with less. Its a bit like looking at Usain Bolt, and the the placed runners saying—-‘your too fast—-here—-take this sack of potatoes and run against us—-much fairer’.

Once upon a time, in land far far away, there was a game called Guild Wars 1. Not long after the launch of this mysterious game, the necs got together to protest, (in front of Gail the Frog——not that Gail IS a frog—but there was a frog called Gail, which Gail spoke through in LA) in a most friendly manner to have something of the necs changed (soz mind fail cant remember what—-thought it was the armour—-but mite be wrong). And lo it came to pass that it was WAS changed.

My point is (if you have gotten this far) I just can not see the same happening today, for what ever reason, something has been lost. (Possably due to so many player arguments/ counter arguments/ counter to the counter arguments——well—you get the picture)

However, I will put a proviso on that—-it was a one off, and the early days of a new game. There a LOT more people playing now. I find sometimes I look at GW1 through rose tinted spectacles, and forget the nerfs that happened on occasion, and the wailing that took place when that happened, as I suspect others do.

The real first timers on GW2, which by the way, are the ones we are talking about who will be most affected by any begginer world boss nerfs (sorry to emphasis the word beginner, but some here seem to want to over look that small fact) wont even have a voice here as a lot don,t know where the forums are to have a voice! Lets face it, even the OP admits to having full exotics / ascended, so has the whole world to play in, but chooses to focus purely on beginner zones! Sure I admit to going to these events, and know what gives me the most buzz? When I hear a beginner see the Behemoth for the first time and say something along the lines of ‘omg look at THAT’! Seems to me to be a lot of selfish attitudes from a minority (i again emphasis— a minority—-not all) high end players with a me me me attitude, forgetting where they came from—ie, we were all begginers at somepoint

If you want a challenge at the Shadow Behemoth go in naked with a level one weapon, instead of a legendary with full exotic/ ascended armour!

Just a suggestion—-as EotM maps do not contribute to your native world, which base you are on is more or less cosmetic (granted some keep bosses are harder than others ie the Grawl with elemental double act twins), sooo why can’t when we are put into the EotM map, your assigned a position at the beginning, with the lowest population colour being filled first on a rota. At least that way there can be a balance for every one. Its no fun being out-manned, but on the other side of the coin, its not much fun totally dominating a map with nothing to cap, or anyone to compete against.

Standing directly on top of the supply or edging slowly out has little effect. Unknown if this is due to character behavior causing this, unlikely but should be mentioned (asura/nec).

You can’t get into main that way when guesting, which I assume is done to give priority to players native to that server. You have to run back and forth between map portals if it’s full. If main is not hardcapped, you can get in if you are in a party with someone who is in main when you enter the map. Otherwise, hang out by one of the map entrance portals and when the message that main is available comes up, run through the exit and come back in. You may have to do this over and over to get in. Ideally, you want to try this well before the event begins before it’s hardcapped.

Their take is they want us to be ‘self educating’, which is all fine and good in an ideal world, but fails to take into account the individuals motivation for being at these events. Some just want to get their drops and leave whilst others will do some hits and go afk, effectively ruining it for others.

I just really hope that the dead line on the 18th is pushed back by a week in recognition of the bugs that needed to be sorted out, to give everyone a decent shot at it.

Changing servers and Guild benefits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shadey Dancer.2907

Shadey Dancer.2907

I was wondering if there are any future plans in the pipe line to change the way guild benefits are removed if you swap servers?
As I understand it, if a guild decides to change servers, they lose the benefits accrued, like deep cave etc. The argument being that they got those whilst on that sever, and should lose them on transfer. If a time came again when anet generously offered free server transfers, to less populated servers, many of us would be reticent of taking up such an offer, as we would be losing out. People like myself, who belong to very small guilds would have the most to lose in a transfer, as it takes that much longer to get those benefits, and are somewhat ‘locked’ into their server.
Also, as a counter argument to the one put forward, no-one would ever argue that WxP from WvW should be removed from players when they transfer servers, as that WxP was accrued on a server that they are now leaving.

Hey—don’t shoot me (or the mod)—the mod felt it was to be moved here, and I wasn’t sure where to put it.
As for people asking whats the deal with my post, its all in the taste and feel. Sure its also dependent on the info put in as to its usefulness, but that’s not what I am trying (and apparently failing) to point out. IE make a typo or fail to put a space where there should be one or visa versa, between words in gw2 wiki, you have to start over and make sure its accurate. In others you don’t get that , it will come up with a ‘did you mean’ —-——message. Ok its a small thing, and if its ‘intended’ to work like that, fine, however why can,t it be ‘intended’ to be better?

Well, to start with, not everyone is the same, some have more time to spare than others. Just do what you can do and don’t worry about anyone else^^.
As for the posters decrying others who happen to have lots of AP, but happened to have an off day, and didn’t measure up to their expectations, careful someone doesn’t point out your shortcomings, we all have them.
