I keep hearing it’s just as expensive to craft as it is to buy, is that so?

- Enrage mechanic unnecessary
The enrage mechanic is very important. Without it a group of ten tanky healers can tear down the boss in an hour by hitting 1 while watching a tv series. ;-)
That is not the kind of skillful play which is wanted in raids.
What about Ydalir (not legendary, but ascended):
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ydalir
It’s actually my favourite longbow skin in the game, ATM.
No pic in that link, but you can preview it in the wardrobe.
That one is quite cool.
because my Ranger is not a Sylvari or a female char or whatever Kudzu is supposed to be for.
A flower bow, a pony short bow, a confetti pistol, a rainbow staff, a disco ball mace?
I honestly think the target audience for some of the legendary weapons are six year old girls. Well, considering Quip maybe although female clowns.
Please anet can we get a legendary weapon of every type a male character can wear without getting laughed at?
Both is bad. If you want Loot play PvE. :-(
The drop rate for Writs of Experience is life the sightings of Unicorns. UFOs come up more often.
WTF???
I have 237 of them. You should do more dailies.
Alternatively, you could always do a verdant brink spider farm but that’s so unengaging I don’t know how people stand it.
l
Got nerfed.
Whether or not a precursor is cheaper to craft or buy depends on how much of the materials for them a person buys or actually farms.
Why?
If you farm many mats they have a worth. You can sell them in the TP or use them to craft a precursor. In both ways the amount of Gold you are investing is the same (minus TP fees).
Same with Raids. We were all excited about them, only to discover that the difficulty level was huge. That’s not fun for Casual players or fair. Excluding people that do not have the time or skill or resources is just wrong.
Really?
Raids are out for 2 days now and you come to the forum complaining that they are too difficult?
What where you expecting, content so easy everyone and their mother can do it in the first try?
I’m sure after the first Guilds have succeed in the Raids they publish Videos and Guides how to clear the raids and with these Guides many players will be able to beat Raids.
Easily doable through skill-based challenges that not many players can complete due to their difficulty instead of time- and moneygating.
Challenges that are so difficult that only a few players can do them? After reading all the comments how hard HoT, Raids and everything new is I can’t imagine the rage in the forum if anet has introduced the “Legendary precursor journey” as a few challenges only the best and most skilled players can complete.
The only way to avoid tarring and feathering would have been to implement it as an enormous list of challenges every medium skilled player can complete. But that would have meant that it would have taken enormous amounts of time. Which would have come down to a big investment. Because you could have used the time to farm Orr, SW or something else to earn the money to buy the mats. On top of that many would have cried I want to play the way I want to play and not do this many tasks.
In the end gold is the fairest way to ensure something is rare and valuable. You can chose a way to earn the gold and with not much RNG involved you knew the exact amount of gold needed.
Make GW2 Mercenary Pack.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
I always thought adding all those hero’s to the Hall of Monuments was going to get us something in GW2.
You got many things, armors, weapons, minis, pets and titles.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments#Rewards
What else where you expecting?
Most of the crafted precursors are cheaper than on tp, if you craft the timegated ingredients yourself.
Most of the precursors are even undervalued on the tp, if you consider the average amount of rares/exotics that you have to throw into the forge in order to get one.
I dont know what kind of discount you were expecting on top of that.
Reading a few of the comments on the forum I think some people were expecting a miracle. A precursor which is cheap and easy to obtain but still rare and valuable.
4. Mats are the downside at the moment only if you buy them off TP. I bought mine off TP because I’m saving the ones I’ve crafted for the new legendaries and also wanted to see the difference – it cost me 1.3k gold, dusk was 1.2k gold at the time. Not a big difference since didn’t use buy orders which would give me ~10% discount and total price of 1.15~1.2k gold which is already cheaper the the TP pre price. I just didn’t want to wait.
5. I’ve also calculated the price if you are going to do it by crafting mats – it would be around 0.8~0.85k gold which is a significant discount from even 1.15~1.2k gold. Generally you save up around 300-400 gold for doing collection there. Is it good? Yes, it is. For just four or five hours of new awesome experience you are getting by doing all those small tasks.
So to summ up:
- Collection tasks are awesome with some small exceptions (some bugged stuff which is getting fixed though or already got a fix), so I really recommend doing those
- Collections do save you gold if you don’t buy mats off TP, but craft them – yes, that takes time but this is exactly one of the reasons why the prices are higher on the TPJust fyi, here are the prices and material lists for crafting dusk:
Craft ascended mats yourself, mats bought with buy order: 680g
Craft ascended mats yourself , mats bought directly: 755g
Buy all mats, also ascended mats, directly: 1168gAs you mentioned, there is a huge spread between buying deldrimor ingots directly or crafting it yourself.
Some other notes:
Anet actually did consider the average value of the different precursors before hot in their crafting recipes. Venom only costs around 30g to craft.thehipone made a good remark why crafting your own precursor will mostly never be significantly cheaper than buying it off the tp.
out of topic can I just ask what program / website you’re using in your pictures?
The Legendary precursor journey should remove the much RNG involved with the Mystic Forge. It should not devalue the precursor, so everything is fine with it. If you could do 3 simple tasks and pay 2 Gold the Legendary would be worth nothing, nobody would want one and every player who has put effort in getting one would be kittened off.
yea, but thats not what the op is complaining about.
the op states that even the first step of the precursor collection costs more gold than the actual precursor (with instant buy)
dont even count in the time you need for the collection.
thats the problem.
the collections may be interesting for the high price precursors like the greatswords/sword/staff/dagger.
but the cheap ones are just ridiculously overprized
The prices in the TP are made by the Players as a result of their demand. The prices to create such a precursor are defined by the droprate of the Mystic Forge. Only few players have done research in these field and even fewer have published their data. The best info I could find is that it you need 500 – 1,000 tries meaning 2,000 – 4,000 rare weapons in average to create a precursor.
Because buying rare weapons in such masses is very time consuming most people craft them.
Crafting cost around
Krait Greatsword 42s
Krait Riffle 44s
at the moment. So to create a Greatsword you have to throw weapons worth 840g – 1, 680g in the Mystic Forge. For a rifle it is even more (880g – 1,760g). Of course you get a few exotic weapons back which you could sell and lower your costs a little bit. But as you see at the moment the TP prices of precursors only rarely reflect the costs to create them.
In these context the prices for the “The Legendary precursor journey” are absolutely fair and the prices of some precursor in the TP are ridiculously cheap.
Some of the points you criticize are correct (like to much effects) and anet is working on them. But some points are not comprehensible.
I do not enjoy looking up meta-builds, spending 30 minutes building or tweaking a build, playing every class to figure out what their skills and trait do and look like, or instantly dying and going “what even happened there, and how did someone crit for half my HP”. With flashy effects it’s impossible to know what’s going on. With the hundreds of skill and traits every class has it’s impossible to know what’s going to happen next or why on earth you just died horribly again, and again…oh and again.
What is the alternative? Everyone uses one class and one build? So you don’t have to spend a little bit of time and effort to learn skills, animations etc. That would be the most boring PvP Experience I can think of.
Plus time-to-kill should probably be rather more evenly distributed across nukey builds and tanky ones…
What difference would be between Damage-Dealer and Bunker if they make the same amount of damage and die equally fast?
The waiting for the reward was not the main problem in rushes. The problem was to finish the rush and to get transformed back to normal. :-(
So many people here have solo’d HoT it is obviously too easy.
Maybe solo’d means not in a party.
And no I don’t have too many problems because there is usually other people about.
To be honest, HoT is quite easy. I think anet has tried to find a compromise so that the most players think it is OK and only a few think it is too easy or too hard.
Most of the hero challenges are easy soloable. I would say 70% you can do solo, 20% need 2 players and 10% need 3 players, to do it without much effort. I think of these 30% for 2-3 players most are soloable with more effort (study the tactics, use right utilities and buffs etc.).
I know those who find the Maguma easy are those who either have full zerk gear and ascended weapons trinkets etc etc with very high stats, or those who saved their tomes boosted to level 80 got tons and tons of points to train specs then had allot left over to train there elite spec to full dragon hunter etc etc which added allot of abilities other players still grinding don’t have.
I think they need to include more events that are not as challenging for those who can’t afford the huge elite gear and to walk trough maguma like gods, and to also reduce the boss scale slightly so there not so dam hard.
Exotic Armor and Weapons can be bought with Karma, Dungeon Tokens and Badges of Honor. Ascended trinkets can be bought with Laurels, Badges of Honor and Pristine Fractal Relics.
So even if you have not much gold there are easy ways to get high level gear.
Scaling Maguma to players who have bad gear would mean it would get total boredom for any equivalent geared player.
Um,
I’m not sure why this hasn’t occurred to the developers yet, but it’s pretty darned hard to get Ascended Gear right now since the ONLY place to RELIABLY get Empyreal Shards that go into making Empyreal Stars for Ascended gear is… dungeons.
Could you please move Empyreal Shards to somewhere people will actually go?
WTF ???
Maybe next time check the wiki before opening threads in the forum.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empyreal_Fragment
There are many ways to get Empyreal Fragment. Most of them have nothing to do with dungeons.
I’m stuck in a loop and I can’t move out of a finished match.
I know this is a pro E Sports game but can someone look into this, please?
There is a dedicated thread for this kind of problems. Post there and you get help.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Help-I-m-stuck-in-a-PvP-Match
I have soloed most of HoT on all 9 classes. Most of them even without optimal gear.
I think the main problem is not that HoT is even remotely hard. The problem is that the rest of GW2 is so easy that you could play it while being totally brain afk. Many players are not used to content they have to pay at least a little bit of attention to and not brainlessly farm while watching a tv series.
HoT has a few flaws but being hard is none of them.
I think HoT is a first step away from boredom and I hope that raids get another step in this direction too.
Wouldn’t work, with multiple guilds allowed like in GW2.
If you would make it so you’d have to pay tax for every guild you belong to, it would effectively trash the entire multi-guild system.
If on the other hand you’d only pay tax for the guild you’re representing everyone would join a “tax evasion” guild (perhaps made by themselves) and represent that everytime they thought they’re not feeling like paying the tax.
Any member that makes or creates a tax evasion guild to literally avoid helping out and growing their main guild is not a member worth having in a guild to begin with. Guild Taxing would be a welcome addition to guild growth potential. However, I don’t think it’s a crucial and necessary addition anytime soon.
The OP want to include TP sales. In this scenario it would be hard to avoid.
My main income is from the TP. I have two personal storage guilds for mats and items. So I have to constantly swap between these guilds to access mats, craft, buy, sell etc.
When does the guild tax happens?
When I sale something?
When I took the gold from the TP?
It would become a nightmare to manage that the correct guild (my main guild and not one of my storage guilds) gets the taxes. :-(
Will it fix all the gameplay bugs that are complained vastly by the players or it will just only contain raid content?
After enjoying Guild Missions in the last few weeks.
My best guess is, it will mostly contain raid content, include a few bug fixes and introduce a lot of new bugs.
Another Weekend full of bugged Guild Missions. This is really getting frustrating. Most of our Members don’t do Guild Missions in this state – meaning our Guild loose Favor and can’t upgrade.
Q.
Greetings, John! In the blog you mentioned there are a couple broken markets. Can you shed some light on which markets you consider broken and why?A.
I can’t until after release for fear of making those markets go insane with speculation (moreso than they probably already are).
Hi John,
we are now nearly 3 weeks after release. Can you give these information now, or is it still too early?
the 64 bit client solves this completely, you are to stuborn to install it
end of story
Sadly, not completely. :-(
But it helps a lot. Now I’m down from 1 crash every 30-60 minutes to 1 crash every 1-2 days.
Anet Seriously? The Guild Missions are a real Bug-feast.
Yesterday we did Trek and Bounty Training, which worked well. Then the Bug-feast started. First Puzzle, only a few members get credits. Rush, event failed because only a few members get credits. Second Puzzle, only a few members get credits. Redo of Rush, only a few members get credits, but enough to get guild credits.
4 bugged Missions in a Row? That’s really frustrating and our members are not motivated to do any more Guild Missions without bug fixes.

2. People with tons of map progress should be guaranteed to rejoin the map they were in regardless if it is “full”. If there technically is no room for them, kick out an afk’er (someone with no map progress). This is probably the best option since it’s impossible to fix all crash situations.
In my opinion the best solution is that everyone who crashes get his spot reserved for 2-3 minutes. Long enough to restart and rejoin and nobody has to be kicked from the map.
My first attempt on “Cotzec Itzels Belongings Hero Challenge” (on my guardian) failed. After that I did two successful attempts and didn’t get credit for it. I think I got the Hero Points but it is not shown as successful in the map and is not counted towards map completion.
There might not be 100% safe stomps. But not everyone is capable to counter a safe stomp.
That‘s right and not everyone is capable of using invulnerability or stealth. Therefore sPvP is a Team-Match, every Team-Member has access to different skills. If everyone should be able to do everything and counter everything we must all play the same class.
A team mate is downed, you rush in to help trying to interrupt the foe who is finishing off your teammate, you realized they are “invulnerable” or in “stealth” your teammate dies, and you can’t do a thing about it.
There are no 100% safe stomps:
And what kind of counterplay for example Necromancer has against Thief, stealthing every 3 seconds with ability to teleport god knows where?
Necros have enormous HP-Pools, AoE fear and weapons like dagger and scepter which indicates hitting a stealthed player. (Btw. revealed in sPvP lasts 4 sec.)
There is no indicator for hitting stealthed player = 0 counterplay for almost all classes.
Every class has weapon sets which indicates hitting a stealthed player.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chain
(Many of them are weapon sets used in meta builds.)
There are even traits which indicates hitting a stealthed player.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zealous_Blade
Only a few classes like Ele or Engi have really bad access to weapon sets which indicates hitting a stealthed player. Most of them have easy access to other ways to defend themselves against stealthed player like AoE damage or revealed mechanics.
Sadly this happens sometimes when you or your opponent have lags. :-(
I’m quite happy with these weeks matches. I played every day 10-15 matches, solo or in small teams with 60-70% win rate. I played thief and switched to ele if there was another thief in my team. The only thing which bothered me yesterday was two matches with an afk guy in it. That’s something which must be addressed by anet.
(edited by Shylock.4653)
Still bugged on my thief.
same here, lags from yesterday and can’t login now
100% the same here, yesterday heavy lags, today only this Error Code 42:0:9001:4418.
It’d be great if it would happen!
27 of needed 40 registered.
Come on guys we can make this happen.
How does one register for this?

Great to have Pugquest in EU.
Ranked has 150 wins per class.
That’s not correct. The Achievement is
Win 150 rated arena games as an xyz.
which means Unranked and Ranked.
And honestly 2+3 vs 5 is as fair/unfair as 3+1+1 vs 4+1 or 2+1+1+1 vs. 3+1+1. So I see no improvement here.
I disagree.
3+2 is much more fair than 3+1+1 vs 5. Since being 2 as roamers (e.g. Mesmer & Thief) instead of 1+1 can already means that: a) you’re playing with someone you know; b) you can communicate with that person on VC; c) that also means you aren’t playing as 2+1+1+1 vs 5 and other a+b is true between those 3 too.
English is not my native language so I might not make myself clear.
What I meant is a match (2+3 vs 5) is as (fair/)unfair as a match (3+1+1 vs 4+1) or a match (2+1+1+1 vs. 3+1+1). Of course none of the matches is really fair because in every one of these matches is a bigger group fighting against one smaller group/solo players. But the Matchmaking system is trying to make up for that with a factor to the MMR of the bigger group.
- adjust score by roster size
distance = abs(maxRosterSize – roster.players)
score += distance * config.rosterSize.distance
if roster.players == maxRosterSize:
score += config.rosterSize.perfectFit
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm#Pseudo-Code
If you want perfectly fair matches you must enforce equal group sizes. I’m quite sure the size of the queue is not big enough to enforce equal group sizes and maintain acceptable queue times.
Or just have people either form full teams or solo queue. That seems simple.
Nope, that seems like the end of PvP. I think many would stop playing PvP if they are forced to play solo when only 1, 2 or 3 of their friends are online.
The best option is to split ques in two: 2+ and soloQ.
This would lead to parings like 2+3 or 5 vs 2+3 or 5. Obviously you couldn’t que as 4 in such que system.
So 4 man Teams have to split in 2 × 2 man Teams? That’s not the best way to encourage team play and build a community.
And honestly 2+3 vs 5 is as fair/unfair as 3+1+1 vs 4+1 or 2+1+1+1 vs. 3+1+1. So I see no improvement here.
Im really tired of being put in 5 premades vs 5 pug, it just isnt fun.
I hardly ever see that. Most of the times I see things like 3+1+1 vs 4+1 or 2+1+1+1 vs. 3+1+1. Most of the premades are not full 5 man groups. So what is your solution for that? Have queues for 5, 4, 3, 2 and solo? That would result in 1 h queue times. I think the current system is quite good and results in acceptable queue times. Waiting just isn’t fun.
Or maby you and your friends make your own premade team? Infact you already have this option avaiable. just make your own team.
+1
And still this queue time. IMO stronghold needs to not have its own queue. Splitting the community 4 ways (ranked stronghold, unranked stronghold, ranked conquest, unranked conquest) will kill pvp.
Nope, forcing people to play game-modes the don’t like kill PvP.
but it does explain why no one ever uses that skill
Yeah, of course no one ever uses that skill. You should tell Magic Toker and Sizer about that, maybe they stop using it. ;-)
