All the people I know and play with (many of them veterans, playing since beta, not noobs like me) just ignored the new teq since day one. So I wouldn’t be too hasty with such statements, Kopper.
Any event that doesn’t scale down to smaller groups is considered an automatic fail by really many players. IMO they should aim with mechanics and difficulty somewhere around the present Claw of Jormag or a bit higher. Just use the scaling, feline censorship, they implemented it for a reason.

Do you realize that at some point, all dragons will be like Tequatl?

I’m just trying to put myself in the writers’ shoes, where it would be mind boggling to have a twist like this. I can imagine the forums will rage over being thrown a villain, only to have her become an ally. But good storytelling is where one cannot predict the outcome. Scarlet’s death, at this point, is so predictable that it would be fun to see how they could pull off the old “bad guy turns good” arc.

Even if a World Boss didn’t require 100 people, the fact that a lot of them still want to do it will cause an Overflow. This is because the game servers can only handle so much players before the CPU melts.

A “soft cap” would be something like 90 players already on the main server. Any new players trying to WP in will automatically go into the overflow. The only people that can get in is if someone is partied, and enters through a map portal.

Right-click on the portrait of someone in your party who’s on the main map and chose “Enter map xy”. Works perfectly fine until it’s hardcapped. No need to enter the map through a map-portal.

Only works for joining ppl in overflow maps, not in main maps.

And I’m telling you we always taxi in from overflow to main-map with right-click —> enter sparkfly.

No. Once the map is “soft capped”, you cannot right click to join on the main. You must enter Spark Fly from an adjoining map to bypass the cap. I’m in TTS, and we fill maps on guest servers daily, so I have a bit more experience regarding full maps.

Now that we’re coming down to the final few months of this Living Story (season 1), allow me to submit my idea on how things turn out.

Scarlet is bad, we can all agree to that. But what caused her to turn from a knowledge seeking being, to a pirate leading villain? Behind every story, there needs to be a purpose. It goes beyond the typical “good guy saves the world” and “bad guy wants to rule the world”. Why is Scarlet doing what she’s doing? Anet has dropped hints along the way that there’s more to her story than we currently know.

The idea that Scarlet went mad when she saw something in the Dream, or somehow touched the fabric of the Eternal Alchemy, doesn’t fly. Anet writers are more devious than that. I feel she’s attacking the world because… she wants to save it! /gasp

The Elder Dragons are the main enemy of the GW2 world. But maybe, just maybe Scarlet’s visions showed that the Elder Dragons are necessary? Lore has it that the dragons wake up to bring balance to the force world, then go back to sleep. If we kill them all, will that unleash a torrent of uncontrolled magic? If that happens, would that empower Abaddon to break free from his prison (again)? Going with this idea, Scarlet might just want to protect Tyria from a potential future.

/ending wall of text

So basically, I could see her turning into an ally at the end of this arc. The story could unfold and enlighten players to her true motives. At that point, instead of killing her off, we would befriend her, and form a new alliance to fight not the dragons, but the real villain: Ellen Kiel.

If you bought an ice cream cone from a shop, and you dropped it on the road, whose fault is it?

Let me expand on this, since people are getting confused a bit.

If you’re a responsible adult, and dropped your ice cream cone, it’s your fault.

If you’re an innocent child, and dropped your ice cream cone, it’s still your fault, but the ice cream shop will more likely give you a new cone. Why? Because a child wouldn’t know any better.

A similar situation applies here. New players didn’t know about, or understand the mechanics of GW2’s bank system. These players might have deleted a character with bonus items, thinking that they didn’t need to put it away in storage. Heck, one of the disconnects of new characters is that you don’t know where to go for bank access (outside of the free Bank Golem). Anet can’t recover deleted items, so they have to generate new ones, and mail them to the player individually. This is time consuming, and an exception to the rule. You get one “2nd chance” if your items are returned to you, much like getting only one account restoration.

Existing players should have more experience, thus the reason why Customer Support will not help recover deleted items. If an experienced player makes a mistake, they just have to live it it, and learn from it so it doesn’t happen again.

Let me quote myself since I explained it pretty clearly, but my post got buried. Please read the above for a roundabout way of explaining the situation of deleted items.

Why can't I play on my own server

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Smooth Penguin.5294

I apologise for only having a few hours a day to play.

I am pretty fed up with not being able to join Tequatl at reset time.
I go to sparkly fen 55 min before its time and I thrown into overflow and cant join my party on main even if i spam the join option during all that time.

How about a cap on guesting players per server?
Why will so many server guests be able to do it on my server and i have to waste my playing time trying to get in and failing to do so?

How about looking into this setting some limits on guesting?

There are “soft caps” and “hard caps” for each server. If the server is “soft capped”, that means there’s still room for players to get in. What has to happen is that at least one of your party members is on the main server. The other party members can’t click to join or WP in. You need to enter the map from an adjoining map. For instance, if you’re in Spark Fly overflow, exit through the Mount Maelstrom portal. Then walk back through the same portal to get back into the Spark Fly map. As long as there’s room left on the main server, you’ll be able to get in.

In a “hard capped” situation, that means the main server of the map is completely full with players getting in as described in the “soft capped” details above. There’s absolutely no way to get in unless another player DCs or leaves voluntarily. Once that happens, the queue pops, and it’s a race to get in.

To explain it in numbers, say a map can only hold 100 players at a time. (I’m just pulling numbers out of the air, so don’t quote me on this) Anyways, the 100 player limit would be the “hard cap”, where there’s no more room for anyone. A “soft cap” would be something like 90 players already on the main server. Any new players trying to WP in will automatically go into the overflow. The only people that can get in is if someone is partied, and enters through a map portal.

Or, just be more careful of what you do in game. Why should Anet have to code and implement a new service to do something that players can do for themselves?

OR… maybe Anet can offer a “Restore Item” tool (one time use), and sell it for 2,000 Gems each. Hmmm, something to consider.

If you bought an ice cream cone from a shop, and you dropped it on the road, whose fault is it?

Let me expand on this, since people are getting confused a bit.

If you’re a responsible adult, and dropped your ice cream cone, it’s your fault.
(…)

The fault part does not matter in business relationships (for the most part, of course within reason).

The cost of an ice cream cone is not worth not only losing a customer but one that might potentially speak ill of you (this does not have to be rational or related to the subject (of the ice cream dropping)).

That is why it is called customer “service” – this kind of “service” does not have to cost you extra.

Do I agree with you that it is the adults fault? Yes. Would I be mad about myself? Yes. Would I be extremely positive towards the company that rectified my own stupidity?
Yes.

So far in my … 14 years (?) of online gaming I only had two tickets, both times I clearly knew and stated it was my own fault and I am just asking nicely. Both times I had within reason my items replaced (could not name all of them in one case).

The thing is, scooping a new ice cream cone for one customer is pretty easy and goes a long way to give your business a positive vibe. Now take that good will you offered that one person, and multiply it by 10,000. Now take that 10,000 and multiply it by how many days there are in a week. Then how many weeks there are in a year. I’ll do the math for you: 3,640,000 ice cream cones in a year.

So if you can imagine 3/10ths of 1% of the game population making a mistake a day, and having to service each one, that’s a very time consuming ordeal. Even if it costs nothing to generate a new item, there is a cost of the Customer Service rep’s hourly wages to have to deal with not only that, but bugs, account thefts, etc.

Obsidian Shards

Being a player who solely does dungeons, I find it quite ridiculous that it is expected for players like me to be forced into content they do not enjoy in order to gain obsidian shards. Yes I understand players have been sitting on millions of karma and it needed a nerf, however, why not give dungeon runners a substitute for obsidian shards also?

100 tokens (ex) = 1 shard. Give players with excess tokens, and no karma a way to get their legendaries too. Give players more reason to do every dungeon instead of just a select few for quick gold / only doing arah to sell. And finally allow players such as myself to play the aspect of the game that I enjoy without feeling forced to go outside it.

Sorry. Crafting a Legendary was initially meant to show that you mastered all aspects of the game. Having said that, if you only do Dungeons, then the only way you can get a Legendary is to buy one from me the Trading Post.

You’re responsible for managing your purchases, not Anet. Yes creditcard or debitcard transactions take 2 – 3 business days before it posts on your account. But ultimately, you should know when you made a monetary transaction. You also get a confirmation e-mail a few seconds after a Gem purchase. December Gem Promotion

in A Very Merry Wintersday

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I sympathise with the OP’s frustration. I was in a similar position myself, having spent a large sum of money buying gems in anticipation of the December sales, but because I bought them at the start of the Black Friday sales, I missed the cut-off date by just 2 days.

Eventually I just bought more gems during December anyway, as I can always hold the gems in reserve for when new stuff comes out, but then again, I have the disposable income to spare. Someone who’s on a much tighter budget wouldn’t have the same luxury, and THAT’S who I’m feeling for. They might be in a position where they just can’t afford to drop another $50 on gems two months in a row, and having to miss out on the special promotion due to that must be very frustrating.

You have to ask yourself the following: “Did I get what I wanted when I made my Gem purchase?” The answer 100% of the time will be “yes”. Why? Because the intent of your purchase at that time was to get Gems, not a bonus.

The purpose of promotions is to entice customers to make a purchase during a certain time frame. You’re rewarded with a discount or bonus should you make a purchase during a promotional period. So if you missed out on a bonus by one day, that’s unfortunate. I missed out as well. But I made the choice to do another transaction to get the bonus. It benefits both me and Anet.

Yes because the map completion achievement is a server wide reward, not a personal one. It’s something that requires the help and cooperation of a large group of players for something they may or may not benefit from.

Are you trying to talk about WvW? If so, you can’t compare playing WvW competitively with willingly helping a single player cap a POI. All you have to do is play WvW as it’s meant to be played, and everyone benefits, including the player who wants Map Completion.

Let’s end this discussion with the following 2-step solution for those who don’t want to know spawn times:

1) If you don’t want to know when a World Boss spawns, do not visit an API using website that tells you so. In addition to this, don’t ask in Map Chat if the boss is up. That way, if you come across the World Boss event, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

2) Turn off your in game clock. That way you won’t know the time, and thus can’t calculate how long until the next spawn window.

Randomize world event timers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Wow. You don’t understand that all World Bosses, except for Tequatl, have spawn windows? The reason why people know when they pop is because 3rd party websites use APIs to tell exactly where in the event chain the current event is.

If you truly don’t like to do World Bosses because other people are around, tell them to stop looking at the websites that give out the information. Increasing the spawn timer does nothing, because people will still flock to the events once they’re up.

tl;dr – No one predicts when the World Boss shows up. We know EXACTLY when they show up, regardless of the random spawn timer window.

I don’t have a problem with the api telling you where events are at the moment. Imo, that is not the problem. The problem is that the events start far too frequently and, therefore, are too predictable. For example, you can predict that the shadow behemoth will spawn within a thirty minute time frame after two and a half hours. This is what I have a problem with. I think it would be better if the window was more along the lines of the jormag window for every event (maybe with a shorter cooldown to compensate). It is the planning of event -> next event -> next event that is problematic.

All events are not predictable. All events are known by means of websites reading APIs. Everything you’ve stated doesn’t matter, since all it takes is for us to go to the 3rd party websites, and look at when the window is up.

1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, or 4 hour cooldowns on the event timers? All it takes is a minute to visit a website, and look at the spawn timer window. Then we’ll know exactly when we need to go to a map. I’m still not sure what you’re trying to suggest, unless you want Anet to no longer support APIs that tell us when events are up.

Randomize world event timers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

What I would like to see is doing away with timers all together and have them only start if you start them. WHY! Well simple, I think a world boss or event should be done on your time, not on a timer…..I don’t get on the game when I know a boss is spawning, I get on when I have time to play, and that means doing things with my friends, something anet needs to give us the ability to do in alot more areas of the game as well.

Also the link to my original suggestion about this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions/Do-Away-with-World-Boss-Timers/first#post2872301

While there are timers, bosses don’t start unless you complete the meta events. Even then, if you don’t have enough friends or guildies to help you, you wouldn’t be able to 1) complete the meta in time or 2) can’t kill the boss in time.

You should be thankful these events cycle on a timer. Otherwise, you’d have to get lucky to come across enough people on the map willing to do the event with you when you log on.

China transfer?

China’s servers are completely separate from the NA/EU servers. If you want to play there, you’ll have to buy the Chinese version of the game. This is partly due to cultural restrictions that the government places. The game has to be modified to meet those standards.

Randomize world event timers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I do understand that there are already spawn windows. Randomizing in the context of which I speak is more along the lines of extending the spawn windows to be MUCH larger/longer. Obviously, the world events cannot be completely random because that would introduce the chance of the event never spawning at all. Basically, I’m calling for randomization within much longer time allowances. This would essentially make trying to predict the events useless and produce the same after-effects as total randomization without its negative aspects.

On an additional note, I’m a bit sad that I might not be able to purchase this assumed VIP membership. Perhaps sending bribes goodies to Anet might entice them to consider this idea.

Impossible to say until we see it in practice. I just point to the fact that buying gems is also “Opt in” while the focus on gem-sales is also destroying the game so just the fact that something is “Opt in” does not mean it’s not a problem.

But how is Gem sales destroying the game? I’m very interested in how you come to this claim.

Will be the third time I will be linking this link here giving the feeling I try to promote my own thread. What is not the case. I just wrote it so I would not have to keep repeating myself. (wanted to have that said before linking it again) So have a read here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/A-focus-on-micro-transactions/first#post3324571 There I explain it completely.

I actually took the time to read your wall of text. What I gather from it is that you don’t like microtransactions. That’s fine. But a majority of your claims are completely based on the perception of just you and a small percentage of others in the game.

The biggest mistake you make is saying Gem store items are superior quality to in game rewards. I’m guessing your opinion is based on certain skins that have more animated effects than in game armor. While true to an extent, you forget that there’s in game skins that are just as flashy, and can be obtained without having to spend a single Gem (i.e. Legendary weapons, Zephyr backpieces, etc).

On the topic of expansions, the Living Story aims to provide an expansion’s worth of content for free. Microtransactions help to fund such ventures. Without people like me who spends money on Gems, people who just play the game without additional purchases wouldn’t benefit.

You can think how you want about Gem transactions. If you feel that a player like me having access to pretty armor skins, or a “large” mini golem is destroying the game, perhaps you should take a look in the mirror, and ask yourself “Why does that bother me?” In the end, we both play the same game, and have access to the same content. I just might stand out more.

No refund for GW2 from retailer

I trust my retailer, which does refunds on other online games. Either it singles out GW2 or arenanet does discriminate buyers from my country. Given my experience, that is the latter option.

Still, the issue is that Arenanet denies refunds on a country-wide basis and does not warn users from those countries.

You keep saying this without providing any proof what-so-ever. So as you keep avoiding the naming of your country, and perhaps even the retailer you purchased the game from, everything points to you making up stories.
