Anet needs to do something to sort out this overflow problem asap.
I’m from Gandara (hi-pop, EU) and i have only completed this event once on my home server- every attempt on an overflow has been a fail.
Tonight i tried porting into the map abt 40 mins before it’s due to start but just hit o’flow after o’flow. I decided to stick with the o’flow i was on after the 10th attempt and we organised. The fight started, and so did the lag. I d/c’d and ended up on an overflow with no event so i hopped into and out of spvp trying to get into the o’flow which had started but no luck. I eventually ended on an overflow where the event failed cos i saw the bodies everywhere, so that was basically an hour of my gametime spent trying to actually ACCESS the content. I can’t even rely on the daily to push the meta event forward because u actually have to do the event for it to count.
I could tolerate the first couple of weeks after the Teq revamp because i knew it was permanent; in 2 weeks’ time this will be gone.
If you’re in a highly populated server, that means there are a lot of players like yourself trying to access the main map. So if the map reaches it’s maximum limit, an Overflow is created. By the way, you do have access to the content via Overflows.
It’s called trail and error. Just because you can’t do it, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Don’t expect Anet to tell you how to win. That would defeat the whole purpose of this challenging content.
ps – there are elements that potentially reduce your damage.
I understand that Anet might have statistics of the Flame & Frost dye kits being one of the most profitable items ever released. I also understand that they have continuously tried making the same profit by creating other dye kits which were never quiet as popular. However, the decisions to re-release Flame and Frost dyes so soon after the previous re-release with no warnings will completely destroy the market for all temporarily released dyes.
The sudden and unexpected re-release has very negatively impacted two groups of players. First and foremost, there are casuals who made it a goal to save up for their favorite dye and bought them at a peak price, spending the gold it took them many months to save up. Not giving them a warning about a sudden price drop is a serious slap in the face, as they could have saved a vast majority of their gold for their next goal. Secondly, there are players who enjoy trading who have been robbed of an entire market. No traders will ever trust the dye market again due to its volatility; the time between re-releases of dyes should really be much, much longer.
This blatant destruction of an entire market begs two question:
1. If you want the dyes to remain at a price equivalent to their gem price, why not just make them account bound from the start?
2. Does the profit you make from re-releasing the dyes for 3 days outweigh the potential loss of players, or was this just a spontaneous decision that was not ran by the game’s economists?
1) Anet never said anything about never re-releasing Gem Store items.
2) Speculating on certain items for profit is just that… speculation. You assume prices were go up or remain at a high value. There’s no guarantee an item will retain value. Just look at Gossamer or even Quartz.
3) People do buy things because they feel the item is valuable “to them”. If someone paid 300 Gold for a single dye to use, they made the conscious decision and were ok with that transaction. The market was never destroyed for them, since they got what they wanted.
4) Who quits the game because their investments might lose value? I lost a ton of money on items that value dropped, yet I don’t complain or quit. That’s the nature of investing, in game or in real life. If you can’t handle such heartbreak, you shouldn’t do it in the first place.
Well it’s just another con from Anet then, whats wrong with paying for a rarer dye and actually getting what u paid for 100% of the time. Instead of getting random yet again
You’re not paying for a rare dye. You’re paying for a CHANCE at a rare dye. Because you made the mistake of assuming a guaranteed result from RNG, I highly doubt Anet will refund you. Anet doesn’t undo player mistakes.
Besides, grey can be a part of the Flame and Frost spectrum, so you got 100% of what you paid for. If you don’t like the RNG nature of the dye kits, buy it directly from the Trading Post.
To be fair, this game is designed for casuals in nearly every conceivable way. That this content is unfriendly to casuals because, among other things, it requires them to spend hours waiting for a main server or designated overflow is, in my opinion, a flawed design particularly when the end rewards are likely to be less than commensurate.
I just wanted to touch up on this. The game itself was made for both Casuals and Hardcore. The new Wurm, as Tequatl, was made specifically for the Hardcore crowd. You must be organized in order to win. If a Casual player doesn’t have the time to join the organized “raid group”, then unfortunately this content isn’t for them. But that doesn’t mean they can’t still play this game.
It’s really sad that players keep generalizing one specific event, and make like the sky is falling because not everyone can achieve a victory. Be it high level Fractas, Tequatl, Liadri, etc. People without the time or skill to do content will complain, but don’t realize that they too have the potential to complete everything in GW2. If you don’t have time, yet want to participate, make the time. If you don’t have the skills to succeed, learn to play better and keep trying. And lastly, if you want to complete an elite group event, join the group doing it.
Edit – thank you Mod for updating the title of this thread.
Here’s a more clear pic of the TTS try an hour ago. We had so much DPS on him, and only got to 25% ~ 33%
This event is perfect as it is. People complain the content is hard, and forget that this is brand new. This is the same song and dance that we’ll see each update with elite content. If you want an easy kill, go do the Shadow Behemoth in Queensdale. The Wurm strategy requires effort and coordination. When Anet releases elite content, no one should expect to win on the very first try.
No one in TTS knew the mechanics before the update. We aren’t an MMO website with advanced knowledge of access to the test servers. We watch and learn from our mistakes. People watch our streams and learn from our mistakes. Trail and error. We think we did something wrong, we try something new. Heck, we thought a bug prevented our World’s First victory, only to be confirmed by the GMs that we were 0.01% off. So we press on. The community shares ideas and tactics, and the leadership puts them into play.
Now as for instances, no thank you. I won’t lie though. If they came out with a Gem Store item to create private instances, sure I would buy it. It would benefit large guilds yes, but what of the solo players or small groups? By making these events instanced, you effectively give control of the content to a few people, and with it the power to leave others out unless you’re a part of the group. By having it all in the open world, anyone can participate. No one can say: “You can’t go because you’re not leet enough.”
Merforga has it right. But allow me to add something to the concept of “community”
…..
I’m not surprised that the Wurm is not liked by as many people. We were making that specifically for the hard core groups that are all about the organization and figuring out the strategy and tactics. It’s really cool watching the community grapple with this puzzle and innovate as they get closer and closer to finding a winning strategy.
By designing elite content like Tequatl and the new Wurm, that brought out the need for the community to band together. Without any type of coordination, these events fail 100% of the time. There’s now a social side effect to this, as new communities forged from various servers now do more things together outside of Teq/Wurm events. We have parties. Break up into smaller groups for dungeon/FotM runs. Hang out in LA. It also goes beyond the game. TTS members add each other on Facebook, and then the social aspect of our guild moves to the real world.
Anet took the raid concept into the GW2 open world, and the players responded. While each server built guilds for them, the TTS founders took it to the next step, and opened up the guild to everyone game wide. That initiative to help organize the community built TTS into what it is today. I have nothing but respect for the leaders who volunteered their time and energy to create this guild.
Why do people always complain when something is hard and requires a little coordination ? Do people really want everything so easy and boring it’s just run in with a random zerg of strangers and beat it down?
If you don’t want to be a little social and put some effort in something then don’t. Let the people that do, do it. Why is that so hard for people? I just don’t get it.
It is the baggage of random, bad, lazy, rude, and otherwise unpleasant folks that often show up only for loot in a completely uncontrolled “open” world event. You know the part where you bust you hump to get the boss to 1 percent only to see 10 people Afk on the waypoint?
That’s true Ren. Last nite, we had a certain guild follow us to different Overflows, only to stand around to get credit. Kinda good that we failed, in a way.
A better idea would be to give a temporary bonus Magic Find for players who haven’t logged in for a week or more. That gives Casual players and/or players who left the game some incentive to come back. Bad part of this idea is that anytime you increase loot drops, you start to mess with the economy.
Does this mean my Mystic Forge is going to be broken too? That means no more Zommoros.
Time to start investing in Precusors if they can’t be MF’d anymore.
Smooth Penguin, you are not reading all the thread and the comments about the idea. It’s not just about champs. No need to be condescending and terse. There are plenty of ways to do it without it even involving champions. Please take a read.
Replace the word “Champ” with Boss, Mob, Ambient Creature. It doesn’t matter. What you’re asking for is “better loot” for rarely killed mobs. Once you kill the “mob”, the bonus loot either 1) goes away or 2) remains. If it’s the former (point 1), then you’re creating an imbalance for players who can race to kill it first for the best look, while other players are left out. If it’s the latter (point 2), then you’re just moving the Champ Trains and creating a situation where more loot is generated quickly, thus leading to potential inflation.
Again, bad idea either way.
1) TTS did not kill the Wurm. A GM was able to examine the boss and get some info and they were off by 0.01%.
0.01%…..
So this verifies that me being too cheap to eat my Orrian Steak Frittes potentially cost us the kill.
/cry
OP, I don’t think you’re understanding something. By increasing the odds of good loot for one player, anyone else killing the same champ after will not have as good odds (i.e. lesser chance). To put it in numbers to make it easier to understand:
Case 1: Champ not killed in the past 12 hours = +200% Magic Find bonus
Case 2: Champ killed within the past 12 hours = no bonus.
So if I happen to log in a few minutes late, and miss the initial killing of the Champ or Boss in “Case 1”, then I will have had 200% less MF, since the bonus only applies to the timer. There is no fairness to that, because people who log in at the beginning of Prime Time coverage gets better loot.
As I said, good intention, bad idea.
While I would love this item, coding such a thing would be insane. Imagine hundreds of individual players creating their own Overflows at once. The servers would break from the stress.
An alternate idea would be to be able to “rent time” on a specific Overflow server. A challenge would be coding a way to kick all players when the time runs out.
My issue is that I only have two guest passes (guess pass more like) to see whether I can get into a server that isn’t on overflow. I lucked out on IoJ, then I got booted from the game, went back… OVERLFOW! This really makes me want to not even bother with this event. This is obviously game-breaking for me, and each server has it own overflow? Why not combine them? O.o Please find some way to fix the capacity of players per map, and the overflows should be a mix of many servers. I though it was, but today when I get sent back and forth into overflow I realized I wasn’t in the same one.
Overflows are game wide, not server specific.
Or, you can explain to people why you need them to stack. Each Overflow I’ve been in have had absolutely no problem, because each Commander took the time to explain things.
Dude you beat the wurm? oh okay….
We did.
edit – I should add that we took out the Amber wurm. Still working on doing all 3 at once.
Low success event + no loot from mobs = Time/Gold sink ?
Having events that basically require the same people turning up to all servers & running them is in no way any form of “balance”. This game is further & further from the grasp of the common player. The toil of making ascendeds is bad enough, then we find out that there will be stat changes which will potentially make a particular set unviable for the toon you busted your butt to create.
Now we have an event with a high failure rate where there is a multitude of mobs but no loot. Since when did obtaining loot for efforts become a no no?
Farming mobs instead of trying to do an event is one thing, getting no loot from an event that is expected to fail is totally unfair.
Its a game , its meant to be fun, This is more like work than fun.
These events aren’t meant to be farmed for their mobs. The goal is to kill the main boss for the loot.
Working as intended.
I find it disgusting that you cant make a character that is more reflective of the vast majority of MMO players. Whats wrong with us REAL people wanting to stay somewhat connected to our character by having it reflect my REAL body. No one has the six pack green abs of the sylvari character in game. I find this irresponsible and I will NOT be allowing my children to play this game until its fixed.
Let’s this thread back on track. The OP is adamant that he won’t allow his children to play a fantasy MMORPG because he can’t make his characters big like he is in real life.
OP – I’m sorry you feel that in game sylvari can’t look like you. Remember that the race is plant based, and most plants aren’t big and bulky (except for trees). But take heart in knowing that norn do have a much large build that you’d be comfortable with. If your children are big as well, they could take a larger norn frame, and shrink the height for their accounts.
It’s nice to see that big people want to be represented in this game. It shows that not every player in real life is in shape with 5% body fat. Kudos to you mate!
2) If you don’t like it, don’t do it.
This is true. If you don’t like the idea of Overflows, then go do other content. You have to realize that you’re not the only person who wants to play this event. Each map can only hold a finite amount of players at a time. Once you understand this, then you’ll understand why Overflows exist.
First off, I like the new content, and I want to play it with friends, my guild and people from my server. Why am I not allowed to, if I don’t stand there a hour before the event begins? I get that this is Anet’s idea of reviving medium level zones though.
I understand why they exist, but I don’t understand why they exist in the form they are right now.
Europe servers have a MASSIVE language barrier, not matter which overflow I join, I usually see three languages (english, french, german) mixed, sometimes even more. No one understands each other, which dooms any attempt at coordination even more.
Why can’t anet simply make overflows server-wide or at least make european overflows that they only pick up people from german, french or english servers? This would solve the biggest problem with european overflows.
If there are 300 people trying to play with their friends as well, how do you put priorities on who gets in or not? We all want to play with our friends or guildies. But maps have limitations on how many players can exist simultaneously.
If Anet made Overflows to be server specific, that would be a drain on resources. Not all servers need them, so it would be a waste to allocate space in that way. As for the language barriers that exist, since Europe requires American to be taught as the secondary language, perhaps everyone can speak that?
Further proof that Kiel is helping Scarlet by thinning out the Lionguard lines.
If you explained things, and no one listened, then there’s nothing Anet can do to fix that. I think the supply count radius is pretty decent as it stands. But perhaps a visible circle to show around the Commander when we /supplyinfo. Then we can get a count of the players “in” the circle, and at the same time get eyeball estimates of players near by.
I actually get extremely concerned when I see these bosses, not because of poor balancing or something, but because, I have no idea how this boss got past the concept stage.
“So we have a boss where 20 people need to do the exact same thing at the same time”
“What if they’re randoms who have never cooperated before, some of which are lagging, cant see past spell effects and dust clouds, and just dont know what to do due to them being new or just not familiar with the event?”
“Nah, that won’t happen. Just do it. And test it on our top-of-the-line machines only without regard for low-end computers that are sure to participate in MMORPGS.”It’s CONCEPTUALLY bad. And that’s actually real soured me on the whole game unfortunately. There are people releasing content without thinking about whether it’s a good idea or not.
And after the cool ideas of renown hearts, dynamic events and the consolidated combat system, it feels like a completely different team is doing really bad ideas.
Sorry, I don’t want Easy Mode enabled for this epic challenge. The fact that we already figured out strategies to a majority of the mechanics are a testament to the player base’s skill.
Imagine, having the voice of Scarlet for my toons. I support this idea, and will pay top Gem prices for it!!! Esp. when I can /laugh to hear her giggle.
Just spent my first and last $10 on gems to open a few chests. Not worth it by a long shot.
People will spend money when you deliver value, but the current suite of chest contents aren’t worth the money. Improvement needed.
Neverwinter’s nightmare chests are far more gratifying to open because the loot is better.
You do realize that there’s no guarantee on what you get from the chests, right? RNG is RNG.
Altering loot tables based on time between kills would only bring forth problems. With WvW kills, those numbers are static, so it’s easier to code Player A killed 4 times = x WXP. Having multiple loot tables, or different scales within the loot table being accessed would be problematic. In addition to this, it would be completely unfair for players who log in at different times.
Example: The Claw of Jormag is killed on a server with high NA population. The mass of players who log in at the beginning of an NA primetime would get the best loot. But what of the other players who log in 1 hour later? Or 2 hours later? Why should they get lesser chance at loot when they’re killing the same boss?
So unfortunately, while your intent is good, this is a bad idea.
Because you were too slow in clicking the button. Once the Travel appears, it’s first come, first serve. With multiple Overflows popping by the minute, you have hundreds of players attempting to grab that one lone spot in the main.
I think people in a party with a party member in the main have a better chance at getting in.
Im still baffled at their idea that every boss in the game will be beaten in 15 minutes.
Wonder why zerker gets so popular when its less of an option and more like a requirement.
Is that really the only way you can make a fight challenging?
You realize that not all enemies take full physical damage, right?
Or, you can explain to people why you need them to stack. Each Overflow I’ve been in have had absolutely no problem, because each Commander took the time to explain things.
I am really not liking achievements where I have to rely on other players, because they never do as good a job as I do myself on my own(which is why I hated Tequatl cheevos and TA new path cheevos, but LOVE, absolutely LOVED Queen’s Gauntlet Liadri achievements and Super Adventure Funbox achievements)
I wouldn’t care about how terribad other players are at playing this game, if it did not affect. But see, when their lack of ’’skill’’ for a game as easy as this one starts to affect my Übermensch pro-skillz and 1337 awesomeness, it bothers me.
No more of this in the future Arena. Stahp it.
There is no " i " in “team”. If group events are not your thing, Lion’s Arch has some nice solo Jumping Puzzles without any enemies to hinder you.
Yea dudes don’t expect to be steamroll all the content 1st try.. I love the challenge and if your pc can’t handle it lower gfx settings for this fight..
My settings are already at minimum. The whole thing is a slide show because of all the mobs, players, effects, and red circles. This was not properly tested for lower spec machines.
Didn’t we have more or less the exact same thread a few hours after Tequatl was updated as well?
Give it a few days and people will figure it out, just as with Tequatl.
This event is more of a hassle than Tequatl. People will complete this once, and then never bother again. And I think a lot of servers might not even be able to complete it at all.
Here’s something I don’t get: Last time I checked, Team Speak was an external program, and not a part of GW2. So why are these events being designed with Team Speak in mind?
We do Teq multiple times daily, guesting to different servers to help them get their kills. We’ll do the same for the Wurm. Bottom line, stop worrying about brand new content being hard, because none of us knows what to do on the very first try.
When you don’t know what you’re doing, you tend to die. I would suggest that you try to learn the mechanics of the event. Once you do, then you know how to win.
Knowing how to win is irrelevant, when no matter how skilled or knowledgeable you are, the event can only be completed if the vast majority of players taking part also knows how to win.
Tequatl worked the same way. If there’s no attempt at coordination, you will fail. There are players who posted tips, so it would be better to look at those than to complain that brand new content is too hard.
I could sit and read all day, so could 90 of the other players who are at one of these large events – but if the other 10 who turn up to the event are casual players; or god forbid, new to the game and happen to decide to man the turrets at Teq or are on their own on one of the Marionette paths, you are correct the entire event will fail. It’s not about it being hard, its about designing an event so that everyone can contribute and the vent can be won without EVERY player having to search for and read a large instruction manual beforehand.
I do not want Easy Mode. This new world boss is a challenge. If someone can simply walk up to it and spam #1 all day long and win, then it’s not a challenge. So yes, if a newbie walks in and wants to contribute, that’s fine. Let him. If the event fails, it’s not just one person or a small group. And no, it’s not a matter of looking up guides. It’s about trail and error. Example: If an all out attack on one path or wurm doesn’t work, then alter your strategy.
I can’t wait until all world bosses are updated. New mechanics to old bosses would be refreshing.
As I mentioned, a PvP server (in another MMO) can have all the elements of a PvE server, npc’s, quests, achievements, everything, and it is labeled PvP as being distinct from a PvE server. Why?
Why ? Because PvP is an option there whereas it is not in a PvE only server. I have played multi-hour sessions of WvW without engaging in anything but PvE. Is killing a dolyak, without another player anywhere in sight (perhaps not even on the map) somehow PvP ?
Was that a supply dolyak? If to, then the answer is yes.
Besides, you seem to be confusing PvP activity with PvP envionment. An environment can be either PvP or PvE. It cannot be “an overlap” of those two – such an overlap would still be PvP (case in point – Open PvP servers)In the midst of so much confusion on gaming basics, it is always heartening to know there are others playing that understand the meaning of simple gaming terms. As I’ve mentioned, open pvp servers can have all the content of pve servers and still be a pvp and not a pve server. There is no overlap possible as the terms exclude each other in terms of their underlying meaning. And, as you said, if they have both it means that they are a pvp server and not a pve server. This is why WvW is a pvp environment and not a pve environment. The complaint in the thread is about locating general pve achievements in a pvp environment. Because the two game modes describe often differing player populations, it makes little sense to force a group that hates pvp into a pvp setting for a general pve achievement like map exploration.
WvW is both PvE and PvP. People commonly make the mistake of thinking WvW is all PvP based.
I’ll miss the 1 Copper drops…

The story goes – Scarlet becomes our ally because she’s secretly trying to save the world by controlling it. We’ll end up saving her butt from a Dragon, and she’ll thank us by promising not to invade Tyria anymore.
Don’t worry about it. As I mentioned in a different post, the TTS Guild will analyse the encounter, and beat it. We’ll then provide some tips on how to go about it.
Sorry OP. I don’t want Easy Mode. Since this is permanent content, you have all the time in the world to learn the mechanics.

Confirmed! GW3: My Little Quaggan – Friendship is Coo~~~
…I can’t lie, I would probably watch this. At least one episode.
/tries to imagine the quaggan version of Pinkie Pie
Please forgive me…
Time to take a gamble, and see if I can turn 200 Gold’s worth of useless Superior Runes into a profit!
Confirmed! GW3: My Little Quaggan – Friendship is Coo~~~
Just to point out something. The TTS Guild guests to servers with low pop, or servers who don’t regularly kill Teq. We do this mainly to help those servers get a kill, and at the same time, allows us to have a point to gather. We then run both the main and the Overflow, with TTS leading both as well. So even if your server doesn’t have enough people to organize, TTS will show up at some point. We rotate guest servers, and welcome players from the main server to participate.
We’ll do this for the new mega-wurm too. So don’t give up hope on doing elite content.
I would gladly bet you are actually selling your assets to other flippers, without realizing it.
I raise you and admit that I even bought stuff from myself once in a while, while buying up the supply of an item to a certain price level and not realizing i still had some open listings in that range.
And if flippers are overwhelmingly selling to themselves, it amounts to speculation if the foundation is made up of speculators. The flippers at the top are making gold off of the speculators at the bottom, who themselves made gold off of market fluctuation. Speculation is transitive.
But all this is missing the point. For all I know or care, speculation is fantastically health for the game’s economy. My question was this: how is a speculation-driven economy good for the game? Why should speculation be a mandatory aspect of the game? Why favor that for a system where dungeon runs and minimal farming are all you need?
If a Flipper sells to a Speculator, that doesn’t mean the Flipper is now a Speculator.
As for the second paragraph, a “free market” is good for the game. Speculation is a part of that market, and it’s not mandatory by any means.
Take a deep breath and repeat the following: Speculation and Flipping are NOT the same thing
The both have an end result which the investor wants, which is to make a profit. However, “speculation” is a type of long term investment that the person hopes will increase in value to sell later on. These people pay more attention to potential nerfs or updates, and aim to grab items before demand explodes (i.e. Silk). “Flipping” is more of a short term buy and sell to profit quickly.
Personally, I’ve enjoyed the Living Story. But that’s a matter of preference. What I was trying to get at is that an unexpected twist can be a good thing.
I’m just trying to put myself in the writers’ shoes, where it would be mind boggling to have a twist like this. I can imagine the forums will rage over being thrown a villain, only to have her become an ally. But good storytelling is where one cannot predict the outcome. Scarlet’s death, at this point, is so predictable that it would be fun to see how they could pull off the old “bad guy turns good” arc.
Good storytelling is where one can predict the outcome, but didn’t focus on what there was in the story to see it coming. See: “Chekov’s Gun”; you are shown the gun in act one, and it is not mentioned or seen again until it is used in act three.
Bad storytelling is where you can’t predict the outcome because it turns out the dog was behind it the whole time, so it could pave the way for its alien overlords. And nowhere in the story was this ever a possibility.
Naturally, these aren’t the only forms of “good” or “bad”, and Chekov’s Gun can be done poorly enough to warrant facepalming or even an application of head to wall at high velocity.
If one could predict the outcome of the story (maybe I should have said a story with a mystery), then what’s the point of following? Look at Star Wars. When I was younger, I would have never guessed Darth Vader would sacrifice himself to save his son. He was the embodiment of pure evil, yet I found a new respect for him at the end.
Check how the demand of “Decorative Molten Jetpack” from only 350 to 1,300,000 today!
I had noticed this kind of issue long times ago, people can just put a requirement for a thing with only 1c on trading post, and it counts a demand… really?
Question: Do you only buy things on the Trading Post because other people want it as well?
