I doubt the VIP membership is subscription based. But even if it is, we all agreed to it when we first bought the game. Section 4-b of the User Agreement states as such:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-user-agreement/
Besides, what difference will it make to those who choose to be normal players? VIP membership is “Opt in”. Players still have access to 100% of the game. VIPers would only get discounts and minor conveniences at best.
There are players throwing around the term “Inflation” because it has a negative connotation to it. Just because they can’t afford to buy an item, doesn’t give them the right to go around spouting fallacies.
I hope this is true, as I’ll be one of the first in line to purchase the VIP Membership. Gem purchasing players should be recognized as someone who supports this game. Perhaps some type of unique glowing aura to represent our Elite status?
Let’s calm down a bit.
I’ve already had a long post explaining why TP traders are good for the game as well as limited, if you haven’t seen it, you should look it up.As far as other ideas like the GW2 economy has rampant inflation or there are other virtual economists online that don’t approve of this economy, that’s simply not even close to true.
As they may be good for the economy, there is much more to games then economies. That’s where the two clash. Making a synergy between a healthy environment and economy is crucial. When ones prosperity feeds off the other there is an issue.
I’ve read your post. It implies that trading potential is limited by 2 things. 1) Number of players trading and 2) The amount of gold/resources created in the game. Idk if would call that exactly finite in terms of the game. In real life considerations yes, but not in game considerations. I understanding why trading is good for the game, but simply not unregulated trading.
Why is unregulated trading good for the game considering all of it’s effects?
Remember there is more to games than just economies. Since this game is tied so heavily to ours, ripples in it send waves throughout the environment where there is more than just numbers. Letting the numbers remotely stifle such a core of a game is a mistake. Idk if you play games or not (I have an idea), but please consider things other than just the numbers.
So you think the solution to everyone’s problems is regulation of our free market? Do you mean to put minimum/maximums on each item, so that no one can sell too low or too high, based on Anet’s valuations of each specific item? No thank you. At that point, you turn the TP into a glorified merchant. It’s where Anet controls all prices, instead of how it is now where players are the ones to determine the values.
As others have stated, everyone has access to the Trading Post, and everyone has equal chance to profit. Just because one person is unable to make money, while someone else can afford to buy Legendaries, that’s not a valid excuse to call it unhealthy.
Just as in the real world, everyone had a chance to be a Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. They started with an idea, and ran with it. Same as in GW2. Players saw potential in items, and invested. You put in the thought process and effort, and you can be rewarded.
There’s more to this game than economics, you’re right. But if you’re so focused on why someone in game is more successful than you are, you forget that there’s stories, lore, and a bit of PvP in the game. If you’re envious of someone who made a lot of money by using an in-game tool, take the time to learn it yourself, and try your hand at our little TP mini-game we traders play.
*A note of caution – Not everyone wins on the TP. I’ve personally lost a lot of money from poor investments, and even more from missed opportunities.
The discussion is about almost all rewards being buy/sell -able.
Most important topic: a legendary
Resulting in grind/farm.
Imo money (gold) is way too dominating in this game.@john
I would like to see you a bit more open-minded in these threads.
This subforum will never work (productive) if you continue to react this way.PS
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/How-to-make-200-600-gold-a-day/first#post3469037
How do you expect someone to respond to fallacies, or assumptions based on misunderstood mechanics? There’s a science behind how economies work. A player can disagree with things all they want, but the fact remains things are working for the best interest for the economy as a whole. If nothing was tradable, then you’d have a situation where there would be an explosion of complaints about grind, since a player would have to spend months to years to obtain each and every piece to craft their Ascended or Legendary gear.
Gold is a dominating factor, because that’s the main currency in game. Just like how the US Dollar is the main currency in America, and the basis of trade for the rest of the world.
I’d prefer they offer new World Boss keys in the Gem Store. Then, someone who purchases said key, can open an Asura Gate for his guild. That way, people willing to pay for fights will gain access to exclusive bosses. There’d be a lot less complaints from players who don’t wish to participate.
When the gifts will be given for the purchase of 4000 gems? Written in early January, but so far nothing has come!
Early January can mean Jan 1 to Jan 15.
“Do you go to brand-named purse stores and complain that the effort/materials put into the purse is not worth the price tag?”
Google around a bit, yes people do.
Of course people do. It’s a stupid, pointless thing to do and it’s a display of inane selfishness as well as a lack of understanding of the factors which determine pricing.
You have a right to complain about prices, just as people have a right to complain about Prada and their insane pricing. I am going to point out to you that your complaints are meaningless and why effort of creation has little impact on desirability and pricing of said items.
Just as someone could point out that you complaining about people complaining about prices is just as meaningless, because people will continue to complain about prices.
Also, if enough people complain, they will lower prices. Just like when people complained about Flamekissed, they took it down.
Need to correct you on a couple of things:
1) People had a valid complaint about the Flamekissed armor.
2) People can complain all they want. But if they are in the minority, and the item sells, there’s no reason to revisit the base pricing.
Scarlet wouldn’t have been a part of the Abaddon Fractal. This much we know, since Evon’s not a pushover like Kiel is. Scarlet knows who Mister E is, and avoids him like a plague.
The OP has it wrong. The game doesn’t rely heavily on the TP, only the impatient players who wants everything quickly and conveniently.
Can you imagine collision detection + friendly fire + no limit AOE? Real world mechanics that if you shot an AC over an area, ALL players in the circle would be hit. Or a zerker Ele with Meteor Shower on big blobs. The trolling would be epic.
… I support this idea.
I’ve been holding off on making my Ascended armor. I really want to slap on my full Traveler’s Rune set, but I’m not sure which armor build would work best with that combination. Sometimes I go full Zerker, sometimes I go Condi/Venom share. Of course I have different gear sets to go with the two builds. But I’m at a loss when it comes to using Traveler runes:
+30 all stats
+6% Crit Damage
+15% Boon duration
+10% Condition duration
+25% Speed
Should I just do full Ascended Celestial and run a hybrid Thief? Or just go full Zerker like everyone else? What say you, the Thief community?
Silly Evon. If you truly care that much about Lion’s Arch, bring your concerns to Ellen and work WITH her. The two of you together could do so much more to safeguard your city than nursing your grudges separately.
P.S. I STILL haven’t gotten my Black Lion tickets in your chests, Evon. You’re still not getting my vote.
Typical, a kiel supporter expects a bribe for their vote.
This is why Evon is best charr. His supporters know the truth behind Kiel.
FYI – If they put in Housing or Guild Halls for 5k Gems, I’d plop down the money for it.
It’s all a matter of the individual. One person may think something is overpriced, while another person may think it’s cheap.
I think though that one thing that we all can agree on, is that the Swim Booster cost is pathetic and an unnecessary item in game ;p
Hold up Vol. We might actually need them when “Bubbles” surfaces.

The more tickets he submits, the longer it’ll take to resolve his problems. Your “friend” is shooting himself in the foot each time he’s impatient. If he didn’t make multiple tickets, the first one probably would have been resolved already.
With all the energy to post a thread over a few Gold, you could just do a few Dungeon runs with the new LFG tool. There’s basically no way for the Listing Fees to be refunded, so I would cut your losses while you can, and do some farming.
Ok, I’m new to this so, is there a dungeon where you get more gold than in the other?
CoF and HotW are super easy and quick. Do path 1 of both for a few days, and you’ll get money.
Mobile payment options means the company bills your cell phone provider. Not all merchants are setup for this type of transaction. So it’s not just a simple “add it”.
I would suggest setting up a PayPal account if you want to purchase Gems.
It’s novelty. Don’t buy it if you don’t need it.
lol of course i didn’t buy it XD
I just wanna state the reason behind why i don’t feel like buying it, and how it will be more reasonable to put better art for 500 (which is quite a price)
You may not like it, but what of the person who bought two of them? If they felt it was worth paying 500 Gems each, then it’s reasonable.

No thank you. Limiting rewards helps to curb inflation. If you want to get more rewards, do different content.
The technical reason are the fact that a server can only handle a finite amount of players. In GW1, there were “Districts”, which were basically different servers handling X amount of players per District.
GW2 is an open world MMO. There’s only enough space per map to handle roughly 100 players at a time. I’m basing that estimate off of our TTS’s Guild Teq runs. One you reach the max, you get pushed into an Overflow, which is another server alltogether.
It could technically be possible to merge all servers into a single one, but that would mean we’d be playing a Dos based text game (no graphics), like old school BBS MMOs. If you’re too young to know about these, think of pen and paper RPGs. Or playing NES Final Fantasy, with only words and numbers on the screen.
The bonus items are coming in early January. See Gaile’s response below
That’s right: “In early January” is sometime in the first half of the month. I am not sure about the precise planned distribution date, but you can be sure you didn’t miss it!
It is almost like if there was a CoD option for mail, or a direct trade option that exist in ever other MMO on the market, this would not be an issue. But hey we got to keep making Evon richer and richer.
That’s not the point here Shadow. In GW1, there were still scams via player to player trading. By using a tool like the Black Lion Trading Post, you eliminate 100% of scams, all while creating a dynamic 24/7 marketplace that spans across all servers in game. The “fees” or “taxes” that the seller gets hit with is a Gold Sink (also good for the health of the in game economy).
Gaile has discussed this issue a lot over the past year. If a player chooses to make a deal outside of the TP, Anet will not assist them if they get scammed. They do not get involved with “Gentleman’s Agreements”.
OP, please understand that the Jumping Puzzle is a part of the WvW environment. That said, it’s OK to attack other enemy Invaders inside. If that weren’t the case, then why would Traps be programmed to be a part of the fun?
If you don’t like being attacked in a WvW environment, there are plenty of other JPs throughout the PvE world.
Transfer over to the NA servers. The TTS Guild does Teq multiple times daily, by guesting to a rotating list of servers. That way, we can help each server get their Teq kill achievements.
Obsidian Sanctum is WvW. Therefore it’s not only OK, but highly recommended that you go out and try to kill as many players as possible.
What you need to do is go out and buy all the Linen that you can afford.
So what you’re saying is that a hard working, business owning, entrepreneurial spirit like Evon is evil because he’s successful? Thanks to Evon, those “illicit Black Lion taxes” help regulate the value of Tyria’s currency, so as we don’t end up with inflation like another popular game.
I’m still not sure why people support a person who spends all day tinkering with Fractals, while the threat of Scarlet is still around. At least Mister E Evon and “Jory” are around to help protect Lion’s Arch, since a certain someone else has been neglecting her job as a Lionguard.
T7 mat accumulation is largely dependent on how you play. I have a 5-4-1 ratio of Bloodstone, Dragonite and Empy shards at present.
I honestly have nearly stopped dungeoning altogether – I have lots of alts and do guild activities weekly, along with frequent world bosses most of the time, and somewhat frequent WvW now.
I’m often in Orr farming for T6 mats – and very frequently catch temple events on alts.
It was a pain for me to grind out those last empyreal fragments when I was finishing up my ascended weapon crafting for the third time – even resorting to an old favorite HoTW speed run grind and alt parking at jump puzzles, I found it painfully slow to gather empy shards.
I don’t necessarily “grind” these mats, but rather I play for fun, and these things just keep coming. From killing Teq and the Karka Queen daily, to other World Bosses, to WvW runs, to the occasional Champ farm in Frostgorge. I used most to help level all my crafting to 500 (from 450 to 475), and I still have way too much of this stuff coming in.
While it’s a matter of “how you play” that can benefit some, I think that people (from a psychological standpoint) will assume that the drop rates are so slow because they’re so focused on it. It’s like watching water boil in a pot, or trying to measure how much weight you lost. If you look at it constantly, it will appear to take a long time. So even if you get 30 Dragonites to drop from a single chest, that still feels small when you consider how many of them you need for refinement. But once you stop looking, and just enjoy the game, you’ll actually see how fast a player can accumulate these things.
So focus more on just playing the game for fun, and you’ll end up with a boat load of loot that you never knew you had.
buy or be aware they say
why in hell did you buy that ? i see no point in it >> there is noting exclusive in that terrace <<
It’s a status symbol. Sure you can get access to all the stuff in that area, but only VIP can be in that area. Just like the 1st class lounge at the airport.
Hmmm… Pay2OCD…
I had to step out of my meeting to type that this is one of my top favorite forum posts.
I think the generic excuse is….
Everyone heard what they wanted to hear and for the most part we (arenanet) have held true to our vision of the manifesto.
…It’s a shame that GW2 has literally become the Fable of its genre. Way over hyped with a plethora of empty promises.
Basically players like you have your own idea of what the Manifesto meant. So far, I haven’t seen any broken promises, since the Manifesto still holds true to today. And with GW2 being named game of the year in 2013, I’m hard pressed to see how you still think the way you do.
Read the link I provided. They used the word “anything” that changes the default view. You people sure have reading comprehension problems.
Having a larger monitor, or dual monitors, doesn’t count as “anything”, since the game options allow you to make the windowed selection. It’s not a comprehension problem when the misunderstanding is on your part.
Anything, any other tool or program that allows you to zoom further back, hence providing you with an advantage over other players, is not allowed and considered an exploit.

TC so mad about losing WP in ebg, they crashed all the maps.
Is it just a coincidence that TC gets mad, then the game servers crash?
You’re implying we need that keep :P We’re just happy sitting our spawn as dolyaks
Can I haz your Keep too?
Commander Duck from Maguuma’s VR guild is the best. Join us on Mumble, and ask him to share his dolphin war cry.

From my own experiences, the responses come through e-mail. I usually never get mail from a Dev, unless it’s Gaile being super nice.
I’ve played worse grindfests than GW2. That said, it has become more grindy than it started out.
/played WoW grinding reputation for a snow cat mount (that was before “the tardening”)
//Built a guild city in AOC…okay “assisted” in building a guild city in AOC. No human could grind that much singlehandedly.
///slashies are teh cool? right?
You could build CITIES??? Like, Guild Housing, only on a larger scale?
This is a real issue IMO. I agree that this needs to be removed or at least changed.
One change I would be okay with is scaling down the cost for teams with the outnumbered buff. Teams with less players cant pool together enough money to fairly upgrade things; and a reduced cost would lead to more upgrades and is better for the defending outnumbered team.
No, because then the strategy would be to have all players log out, leaving a few people in Towers and Keeps. Then when the Outmanned buff kicks in, they start upgrades on the cheap. After that, everyone logs back in.
If anything, the costs of upgrading should increase, and with it a slightly higher boost in Reinforced Gate/Wall HP.
Your analogy is a poor one I think. Yes, you pay to put gas in your car, but once you pay, you have the gas in your car and you can then drive off.
Paying for an upgrade in WvW is like paying for the gas, and then driving to a petroleum distillery and escorting small canisters of gas to the gas station where it is stored until you have enough to fill the tank. But, if the gas station is taken over by any other company during the escort time, you lose all the gas that has already been escorted and you still have to take the gas station and again pay for the privilege to escort the necessary amount of gas.
People are saying its unnecessary to have this gold-sink. Replace it with Karma+Badges, things that actually make sense lore-wise to be used in an ethereal place like the Mists.
If someone takes over the gas station, retake it, and escort the tanker Yaks to protect the much needed fuel.
As for being lore accurate, if we were all in the Mists, we could just walk through the walls. In reality, we need to pay the workers to build the upgrades. Gold = the worker’s wages. Supply = the materials needed to upgrate. Karma = feeling good about helping your server.
Putting Rams on top of walls is useful for Fearing people off.
You can only kill World Bosses once per day for the loot.
Skill vs Skill = Unknown? No the one with the better gear in the case of this arguement ascended and exotic, the person with ascended is going to win. Oh i dodged your hard hitting ability and your in ascended gear… yeah and i dodged yours, the difference is my aa’kitten harder than yours so eventually im going to down you.
The only place where Skill vs Skill = Unknown is in spvp but in wvw its a numbers game along with a gear game. The difference between rare and exotic isnt that big stat wise but it helps you in wvw a ton so with other people getting ascended gear you yourself have to go through the process of getting it as well to stay competitive. You dont see people in world first races saying “oh i only go up 2% in dps so it doesnt matter” your gm would kick you so fast its not even funny because that 2% could give your guild world first. With a wvw ladder and the ability to have bragging rights saying “we are number 1” could mean they had ascended gear, or more players.
To keep things fair in wvw they should just make it so stats cap at a point where you would have full exotics and you cant go over that. So ascended is only useful where it doesnt matter since its broken anyways and thats pve. Then it would be 100% skill vs skill and if you want to compete then get exotics which are pretty easy to get now, takes 2 min on the ah if you have enough gold and if you want to change the look of it converting your gems to gold after your skin purchase or transmutation purchase you should have enough gold to get a full set with some to spare.
When you have skill, you quickly realize how much more important that is than gear. You can’t say the other person in Ascended will win. As I said earlier, no two players have equal skill. It’s a game of moves and counter moves. Hit me once for big damage, fine. I hit back 4 times as much with 10% less DPS than you, and I still win.
Groups of anything is strong if you’re not prepared. Ever come across a herd of Zerker Thieves? 15 invisible Backstabs hurts much more than any Hammer train could.
If you are too poor to pay for upgrades, then don’t. You let the Commanders take care of that. The more serious WvW players are the ones who care about the competition. Having stronger Gates and Walls = more defense.
Obviously you still don’t understand the point of the thread….It’s not about people being able to afford it or not…It about the fact that the gold cost makes little difference in if the upgrade gets started or not. Upgrades cost between 2s50c to 1g50s (excluding SM) the most common upgrades cost less then 75s, troll or serious WvW player, its not a major cost…
What point? There’s a cost associated with upgrading your WvW holdings. Gold is the main fee along with Supply. If you’re willing to toss 2+ Gold to upgrade something, then you make that choice. It benefits your server as a whole if done properly. If you can’t afford it, that’s fine. Commanders usually take care of it, so you don’t have to spend any money.
Again not the point of the thread. But gold in not the “main fee” supply would be as it is time gated and take up a majority of the cost…Gold is just a annoyance at best. Anyone that upgrades and is likely aware of it can afford 2s50c-75s, any one that can not is most likely unaware of the upgrades or wouldn’t consider doing it, there for the cost wouldn’t matter.
Out side of SMC, only 1 thing cost over a gold which is fortify keep. Which is a drop in the bucket compared to the time gated 2000 supply needed…
Again, what point? It’s a fee. If you can’t afford to pay the fee, regardless if it’s a Tower or SM, then don’t pay it. If the amount is trivial at best, perhaps we can suggest Anet increase the costs? Using the real world as an example, it’s like complaining that you need to pay for the gas that runs your car, where the gas is gated by OPEC.
If you are too poor to pay for upgrades, then don’t. You let the Commanders take care of that. The more serious WvW players are the ones who care about the competition. Having stronger Gates and Walls = more defense.

what you extrapolate from anet words is your interpretations, not “the very one interpretation”.
“no grind” means exactly “no grind”, not “no grind because someone else thinks that you don’t need it”.
because the simple fact that there is an improvement in gameplay, although it is very little, it’s a treadmill.
i never flamed against grinding for legendary items. it was only cosmetic.
ascended is totally different.
everything else is just talking.
that’s all for me.
Because of your misinterpretation of the Manifesto, complaints like this thread exist. The Manifesto is about having fun in the game. If you think having BiS gear is fun, that’s fine because you play how you want. But if you “need” BiS gear, you can’t complain, since Anet provides you with the means to have your fun. The gear is there, as is the requirements to get them.
I’m getting my Ascended armor because I want to, not because I need it. When I WvW, Ascended gear won’t make me a better player. When I PvE, I’ll kill Tequatl in about the same amount of time it would take if I had all Exotics. The rat in the corner of the fort still dies in the same amount of time and effort.
People complaining about “grind” truly have no idea what a real MMO grind is. GW2 is no where near that.
Hmmm. How many arrowcarts, catas, ballistas and trebs do you build when you prepare Garrison for a 30-player + 5 omega rush? How much supply would it take to build them, and how much per hour to maintain them?
… I play on Piken and most servers we meet siege up a wooden keep more than we siege up T3 garrison. I raid daily with one of the largest Piken guilds and can count the number of arrowcarts we build in a week on one hand. So I cant really answer that. Most of the time its none.
At least siege golems are fun to battle. I still think they should be cheaper and do less damage, to become much more common. Best WvW day that’s ever been was when EB broke and only allowed golems to be built. No arrowcarts, no trebs, no catapults, no nothing. Only golems. Well, maybe that day is tied with the time we joined WvW and ended up in a random server, lol
I dont mind siege, I dislike siege spamming (and subsequent refreshing). Both this should go. Make us work to maintain important siege. Refreshing is not maintaining siege, its getting in and getting out with no cost at all. Even a drooling idiot can do that.
I challenge you to set go properly siege up your Garrison so that it’s prepared to turn back at a minimum, a 30 man, 5 omega rush on any gate/wall. Hint: that’s roughly 30 pieces of siege, and ALL of them are important when you don’t have a the numbers on the map to wipe the enemy force. You’ll need to run the supply from camps, and you’ll also need to refresh all of those pieces. And while you’re at it, if those northern towers fall to a larger force than yours, your Garrison is in danger, so you’ll need to siege those (5-6 pieces per tower) and not let anything despawn there, too. You’ll need to defend and retake camps quickly so the prints you placed don’t despawn. Get all that set up, keep it refreshed for several hours, replace what despawns or gets destroyed, then get back to me if you think the current system doesn’t have a “cost.”
Some servers can get by by only using their numbers, but those are the exception, I think. If you don’t have dominant numbers, good use siege allows you to still have a chance win the match.
All servers are fully capable to be the “exception”. If your server is more PvE based, then of course you’ll have a sub-par quality in your WvW Borderlands. But look at TC. They’re the official Role Playing server, where the only thing they do all day long is talk in Divinity’s Reach, yet they’re an upper tier WvW server.
