Animation:
I just want to add, as I’ve created the ‘perfect’ toon, only that once ingame a characters hair will be stiff as a board or looks awkward once they start moving around.

What you need is come kind of 3D room to ‘play’ with your toon in to get an idea of what it will look like. Rather than the current ‘print preview’ we have now in character creation.

How to recover from Thief stealth

in WvW

Posted by: SoPP.7034

SoPP.7034

So firstly I should explain the title better. That is given the significant negative feedback placed on thief’s due to the rendering/culling issue with regards to stealth is there anyway that ArenaNet can make people respect what a thief does. That is without it feeling like a thief is exploiting something and concurrently not turning the thief into a useless profession?

Specifically even if ArenaNet resolve the issues around stealth will the community forgive and forget? Or has the communities superfluous experiences with thief’s meant that they will always regard thief’s negatively as current threads here indicated.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Most-annoying-class-to-deal-with-in-WvW/first

I actually did a little research on this and found a statement dated 3 March 2011 which really stood out for me.

Fabius Bile said
“this gotta be the first screwup I see them make.

stealth assassin classes in MMOs are always a plain nightmare. They are simply overly popular, and will never have the playerbase happy.

as much faith as I have in ANet, im yet to see ANY developer make a fair rounded and balanced assassin-type class in any MMO, past or current.

They should have avoided stealth entirely".

http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/11/arenanet-interview-gives-new-details-on-the-guild-wars-2-thief/

The fact that these sentiments were aired over a year ago is interesting. Given the complexity of balancing such a profession it’s REALLY disappointing that ArenaNet has dropped the ball on this one.

I think I should make it clear that I have a level 80 thief and have had some ‘fun’ with it in WvW. I’ve also made alts and been on the receiving end of invisi rendering thief’s and I can honestly say it’s no ‘fun’.

As a community can we <3 thief’s without making them useless?

I regularly “tour” the world, and most times I’ll just pick a zone, and run through for fun, aiding in DE’s wherever I come across them. I think it’s just a lack of reward for doing them. Most rewards for DE’s are tempting to lower level characters and definitely appeal to new players. It is hard, however, to entice higher level players to force themselves to sit through a lengthy event in hopes of getting what most consider “trash loot”. I do my best to get players together in zones though!

I think you’re it’s hard to form groups for most DE, would the server mergers assist with this? Any negatives you can think of?

Have I wasted my time making alts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SoPP.7034

SoPP.7034

I’ve gone in the way of building up my alts. With a bunch of 80’s and a few more I’m chipping away at that I intend to get to 80 as well.

I enjoy developing my alts and getting good gear on them, exotics all round and rares for weapons that I don’t use often.
My higher alts have been great for farming chests and getting better drops as a result. However with the ‘Ascended’ update I’m now starting to wonder the practical aspects of my decision.

With this trend I’ve decided to focus on getting one toon all max gear (at least at this time) but ignore my alts.

I came from GW1 and I’m curious about other people’s takes on alts from other MMO’s. At least in terms of GW1 alts were invaluable, different professions could do different things and you knew that when you got max gear for them it wasn’t going to get surpassed somewhere in the future.

With that in mind what is everyone’s take on making alts. I did it for fun and don’t regret but am curious about any practical uses they will have from you experience?

I miss the impromptu groups and dare I say it but the world of GW2 is to big with to much content? The whole impromptu group forming was a big sell of GW2 before release and it rarely happens now days imo because its hard to find anyone.

Now that GW2 had it’s initial BANG are we left trying to motivate friends and guildies to do certain events.

So, aside from LA most areas now days are pretty sparse, I’ve looked into this across servers that are typically considered full and aside for a few souls here and there as well as a bot or 2 it’s uniformly the same.

Aside from your big events that have an end chest its pretty hard to find people to do Dynamic Events with now days.

When coming across a DE I might have a stab at it, but honestly, it’s SOOOO boring if no one has started it and I participate in it hoping that maybe someone else will join. It takes to long and honestly I get more exp from simply running around opening up new areas.

Ive actually taken to WvW for most of my leveling. Find a good commander with a significant following into a Borderland and make some noise.

While you can’t remove servers from WvW given the server pride people have. There is absolutely no problem with mergering PvE servers. Technicalities aside, it makes perfect sense. You repopulate the areas so that impromptu groups can form and suddenly theres an active PvE community again.

tl:dr
Merge PvE servers so there are enough numbers to form impromptu groups for DE.

SoPP.7034

The fact that a good D/D ele is practically unkillable in 1v1 makes them THE most annoying class there is. Thats just a fact.

Sure Thieves are annoying with stealth and crap, but you can still kill a thief. Even if that thief is amazingly good. However if you run into that same amazing player but he’s a D/D Ele, you might aswell just log out because he’s going to eventually kill you unless you get saved by teammates etc.

It takes a quality player to use a D/D ele effectively. A thief by contrast can be used by any 1/2 decent player effectively by utilising the invisi rendering issue.

Good D/D ele’s are RESPECTED.
Invisi rendering thief’s are ANNOYING which is the entire point of the OP.

2. Reach final mob, but I get hit with 6 stacks of Poison so I go down.
3. Other play doesn’t res me, so I die. Other player dies.
4. I respawn at the checkpoint.
5. Other play is too close to the mob for me to res. I wonder why he still hasn’t respawned at the checkpoint. I ask him to respawn at the checkpoint.
6. A second later I get a message saying that the Party Leader has left the Instance and that I’ll be kicked.
7. I go back and ask what happened and he said that he left the instance.
8. I ask him why he didn’t just Respawn at the Checkpoint, since it gives him the option and I told him several times in the past that he should do that since there’s no penalty after you’ve already died.
9. He just ignores me and says that he wants to do it again.

You know if you helped him the second time it was a silly thing to do?

Don't you miss botters?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SoPP.7034

It balances better without botters. All the botters do is create a disproportion between the rich and poor. They’d get so rich that Anet would have to design a gold sink that regular players could never afford.

No it doesn’t, after ban waves a huge inflation appeared. In my country, the gov responds to inflation by increasing the salaries. In GW2 there is inflation, but the ‘salaries’ are not increased, we still get the same money from events or selling items to merchants.

the salaries are increased. Every drop you get is now more valuable.

Not everyone used to farm, some people had other ways to earn money, and these ways might be ruined now because the skyrocketing prices. Ok, farmers got their coin, now the other players.

So let the botters back because they support someones way of playing? -.-

I have to be honest and state I’ve refused to believe that the ascended gear is a grind based treadmill. This despite my guild telling me it is and the fact that I feel ‘obliged’ to participate in fotm which makes me think that it is. I really just can’t shake the fact that ‘THIS IS ARENANET’ a company who I’ve followed for years now since my gw1 days. The guys who turned the MMO genre on it’s head.

So long as any system integrates itself and enhances the WvW experience, I’m all for it.

The amusing thing for me is that most people’s comments I’m reading here were made during the BWE which is nearly 4 months ago now. The fact that ArenaNet has taken SO long to respond to issues raised by the community is due to the sheer fact that WvW doesn’t make them money.

All resources have been going into Halloween and The Lost Shores which would have netted ArenaNet far more than anything WvW has done recently.

WvW will get fixed eventually but in the mean time I think I’m actually going to try Planetside 2. It offers 1000’s of players competing against each other all at once. And I can tell you one thing, if they can avoid ArenaNet’s culling/rendering issue I’ll probably stay and play PS2 for that sheer fact alone. lol

Live events are rarely successful and ArenaNet should have known better.

It increases the scope for things to go wrong and given it’s a live event it merely exacerbates problems.

Making the decision to ‘go live’ immediately upsets the ’can’t make it’ sector. Having upset those people from the get go you really need to ‘nail’ what it is you’re doing to highlight why people need to put their lives on hold to participate. If you don’t nail it you’re merely highlighting the pointlessness of making it live.

The fact that it’s live means that if you miss out, you can’t do it again. Given the rudimentary nature of human psychology where people REALLY don’t like to miss out. If you fail to reward those people that attended, you suddenly have a huge problem.

Its definitely viable, as a low level however you will want to follow a group around. Your leveling quickness really depends on a number of factors.

If your map is being dominated you may find it hard to get people together to take objectives and get experience.

If however, your servers prime time has arrived and you have an adequate commander who is leading the zerg to retake a map, youll level up significantly quicker than doing anything in PvE.

If you let every warrior have greatsword mobility.
If you let every ranger have that wierd flying greatsword ability.
So on and so forth.

sPvP games would be crazily imbalanced if every single char could traverse the map super speedily. WvWvW games would be the same if every char could traverse the map super speedily.

Are you saying making a more convenient weapon swap system will make people travel across a map too quickly?

Weapon Swap

Overall I like the ele and have enjoyed playing it as my alt. Having said that the lack of a weapon swap system has allowed for a sense of tedium to set it. To clarify I’m not talking about hot swapping in combat, I understand we get the attunements.

What I usually do is run staff in WvW, however I usually like to switch to d/d for various reasons. The process for this is to open my inventory, double click on the first dagger, double click on the second dagger, then close my inventory.

The process to switch back to staff involves opening inventory, double clicking on staff. One dagger will go back to my weapons bag the other into general inventory. I move the dagger from general inventory so I don’t accidentally merch it later. Then I close my inventory.

This might seem fair but after you’ve done it more than 20 times in a session the whole process gets very tiring.

I propose slots to allocate weapon sets that we can allocated a hot-key to. The rules for not swapping to in combat can still apply but anything to reduce the ridiculous repetition involved to swap weapons atm is better. As the system currently stands it involves unnecessary fiddling which distracts from the gameplay not enhances it.

This could even be applied to other professions. Again it doesn’t have to be swappable in combat, but even a key for your ‘back-up’ weapons that you could use to cycle through weapon combos out of combat.

tl:dr – Ele weapon swap system is ‘fiddly’ and needs consideration.

EDIT: The more I think about this the more it can apply to all professions. I’ve just come to notice it more on the ele.

What kind of Music do you play WvWvW with?

If I’m taking my session seriously then I need the SFX to determine what is happening in game so in turn I have some fairly quiet ambient sound for music playing.

If I’m not taking my session seriously… I usually watch a movie. Last night I watched ‘A Dangerous Method’ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1571222/

MEtrica- the NPC Gukumatz does not give containers for me to do the quest of collecting the 4 elements-

This still happening for me.

Seriously do I get something for free if I come across X amount of bugs in game?
To make these quests for a limited time just contributes to the stupidity of it all.

Ways To Level?

The best leveling for me happens in WvW. There needs to be a few things in place but with a little patience you can go up levels pretty quickly.

If a map is being dominated wait till your servers prime time comes up. Look for a map that’s starting to take back the area or look for a commander with a lot of followers.

All things going well you can take back an area relatively quickly and jump a number of levels in the process.

Jump+dodge: intended mechanic or weirdness?

I never posted about this because I don’t want it removed. You see it’s my ‘thing’:

- About to walk through a portal? JD time.
- Hanging out in PvE? Throw a JD in there sometimes
- Just capped a keep in WvW? JD off the side
- Involved in heavy sPvP combat? errrrr…….. don’t JD

Just leave it, it’s a quirk in the game and I love it and as far as I know you can’t exploit it.

While I understand and support the removal of the orbs. It’s also taken away an extra dynamic to WvW.

I don’t know if it’s due to this or the fact I’m getting to a certain ‘stage’ (stage?) with WvW where it doesn’t feel like I’m doing much, that I’m mostly PvD.

Anyone else had this recently due to orbs missing or is this more systemic?

Is anyone in this thread reading his original post?

He’s asking for a better system to manage his guild/alliance.

The only mistake he’s made here is title his thread with the word ‘commander’ in it, now all the social commentators have come out with their expert opinions -.-
