I want to be in the top 500 so I can win a mini llama. I’m a warrior and have looked up the builds for ShoutBow and HamBow. Is that the best way for me to win? I would love if someone could teach me the secrets to being a good warrior PvP player. I played a lot of Diablo 2 in the past as a Barbarian, so I have experience in PvP, but I would like to be better in Guild Wars 2!

1) Learn the game mode first. A lot of winning in conquest mode has to do with being at the right places at the right time. I am still getting my fighting skills up to par, but sometimes you don’t need to win fights to win the match.
2) Warrior isn’t too difficult. Learn to blast your stuff. Proc geomancy sigils on your opponents. Hambow is similar. No one can really teach you mechanics beyond telling you blasting your firefields and leaping through them. Maybe the Shoutbow build has all the tips on metabattle.com. Not sure.
3) Find some friends and duel when you have time.

I don’t think you having been paying close enough attention to this game in the past year in a half.

The whole matchmaking process is in the works. Anet has been putting in a lot of work as far as pvp goes. Sure, some of their efforts haven’t resulted in great execution. The balance team doesn’t seem to always think things through. But that’s OK imo. You have to look past their mistakes to figure out that they really do care about this game mode.

Honestly, your priorities are off Harvest in my guesstimations. I would guess the people who play for Glorious Hero’s armor and Mini llamas are a minority. Most of us pvp to get better, maybe convince four other fools to form a team, and proceed to get roflstomped by the Abjured and other teams. lol

No wonder the PvP community is dead. Keeps Burning all the serious participates.

Not hating on you man. But the information was readily available on these forums. And the amount of games some of you guys were playing weren’t healthy with or without a season.

You’re absolutely Right it wasn’t healthy for us. I’m still recovering from it, i’ve only now stopped dreaming in pvp. Please all I’m asking for is to give the same rewards to the current people on the ladder so we have something to show for all the work we did.

Please understand with the amount of games we’ve been playing pretty much every waking moment aside from eating, sleeping, etc was spend chasing the ladder under the current system. So Obviously we spent more time playing the game than reading the forums.

What do you honestly want anyone to say?

People who kept themselves informed weren’t expecting rewards of any kind.

Idea to nerf slick shoes

I’m sorry but having extreme duration CC skills with no cast time is absurd. Do you realize that slick shoes and overcharged shot have 0 counterplay besides random dodging them or blowing cooldowns in the hopes that you don’t get CC’ed.

Slick shoes are so ridiculous that engineer’s supposed “hard counter” which is necro , can get 100-0’ed because of slick shoes.

Such powerfull CC either needs a cast time or a straight up nerf. Even hammer warriors which are supposed to be CC beasts don’t even have a good CC skill compared to engineers.

Oh also its unblockable and ignores stun breaks that aren’t blinks. It can 100-0 half of the classes in the game. Gud balance gud!

Yet some of the best players don’t get 100-0d when my glorious jheri curled perm starts spilling its grease all over the floor.

I agree with slick shoes needing to be toned down, but from playing as an engie and playing other classes against engies, I think some of the problems is just people not paying attention to it.

Everyone hates slick shoes. it is pretty much universal at this point.

My suggestion to nerf it is to remove the break stun off the toolbelt skills.

I think this is only fair seen as if you want to take such an OP 100-0 damage/cc skill then you should have to give up some survivability.

Thoughts?

Right now, running Slick Shoes all the time in PvP is a poor decision. Immobilize comps, DPS Guardians, and Entangle Rangers demands Elixir S be taken. The ‘Stunbreak metagame’ Engineers have is fairly balanced, with Slick Shoes and Elixir S being A Tier, E-Gun being B Tier, and Goggles and Thumper Turret being niche/troll.

You don’t absolutely need Elixir S for Entangle Rangers or Mediguards. Overcharged Shots need to be used effectively in both of these fights if you use Slick Shoes. Ring of Warding and Entangle both can be escaped with it. I’ve been learning to use that skill against those two classes with more care than wantonly trying to juggle people right off to bat.

E-Gun is better than Elixir S in my opinion. Much shorter CD on its stunbreak, more team support, allows for a lot of kiting, additional form of poison and quick weakness.

Are you Kidding Me I spent the past 5 months fighting a grulling battle on the ladder and I’m not getting any rewards now? I play my hardest in so many 4v5s

and now I’m not even going to get a single pieces of glorious armor despite making #9 in the end of the session topping at #1 at February. what ever happened to your grind policy?

Uh. You didn’t spend the past five months fighting a grueling battle on the ladder considering the first implementation of the ladder was in December. Before that the old LB had no seasons.

Rewards were meant for seasons, you topped out at #1 offseason by spamming more games than others. That’s your own fault, not Anet’s.

If two thieves queue together there’s nothing really stopping it.

You know full well this happens all the time due to the match making not really caring and you can find out easily by trying to invite them to group if you can invite one or both they are not grouped together. I see it all the time and I always check to see who is grouped before a match starts. There was a brief time/test period when matchmaking was very strick with class composition but people cried and they quickly changed it. I believe it was right before the test season when they were fooling around quite a bit.

I rarely see 3 of the same classes w/o some duo queue action. Not denying it happens. Just doesn’t seem to happen frequently unless it is the first hour or so of dailies.

That would be 30,996 damage divided over 77 ticks, or an average of 402.545 damage/second. Meaning for the 77 seconds you were bleeding, it was an average of ~4 bleeds on you.

Combat log says otherwise. If it were truly 77 individual bleed stack ticks, as you say, then each bleed stack would be dealing 402 damage/second. This requires 7,140 condition damage, which is more than double the maximum possible in WvW.

So yes, he was bleeding for 77 seconds.

@Shadelang: Weakness doesn’t prevent crits or crit procs, just crit damage. On crit traits, sigils, food, etc. operate at full capacity under Weakness.

@runeblade: Hence why I said 60% reduction instead of a higher number. High bleed stacks come from Shortbow.

No. That’s not how the counter is working.

With 20660, Krait Rune/Rabid, look at Sharpening Stone utility. One bleed does 1,016 over 9.25 seconds. That is 109.8 damage per tick. With geomancy, two sharpening stones (one is traited), entangle, and bleeds off axe/dagger a ranger can stack some for 20+ bleed stacks. At 20 bleeding stacks you would be doing ~2196 bleeding damage per second. I know from testing on Svanir that number is somewhere in the ballpark to the actual dps.

The window he linked showed 77 hits for 30996 damage. Which you are right it is doing 402 d/s. Something is going on there. But there’s no way a condi ranger is only doing 402 d/s for 77 seconds.

My guess would be that OP got hit with bugged condi damage that started yesterday considering there’s no reason to discount his story that the encounter lasted about 20 seconds.

I try my best never to say anything in chat, but lately there are a lot of people in Ranked who simply have no clue how maps work or any strategy at all. It’s pretty infuriating to have people waste your time because of that reason. If it was in Unranked I wouldn’t even care at all.

I don’t really care in Ranked if you’re not super mechanically good on your class or if you are using the bestest ever meta build. What I and a lot of other people care about is people being at correct locations, and not dilly dallying around with bosses, or lord rushing in Foefire from the start and getting your team triple capped in the process.

I honestly think from talking to other vets of the game it is the number one leading cause of rage. People simply do not understand or care to learn map strategies or how to rotate. It is something everyone should have partial knowledge about before they even queue for Ranked.

The reason I and others care about it is because Ranked is supposed to be the most competitive place in game we can play and get better.

This thread is wrong. Seriously if you think people lack creativity then go play one of your sick unknown specs vs some meta specs and get back to me. All the builds are so finely tuned and truely do totally BROKEN stuff. To be viable you need to do broken stuff.

I have made necro specs with amazing synergy and where everything makes sense. But it gets trashed because the meta builds are just beyond synergy and “decent”. They are OP. Invent a build and then when you fight against slick shoes engi lets see who is better 1v1, who has more downed state cleave, who has more team fight aoe, who has more healing support, who has more ability to spike and 100—->0 someone.

To be viable currently you need to have a broken spec.

Not really true.

Celery engies can get roasted by burnguards. Condi rangers can also pwn them as well. Neither are in the meta currently.

Meta builds aren’t the end all be all builds for 1v1ing.

You want bigger and better tournaments then it has to start with providing players in game with an incentive and actual experience.

The MMR system does nothing particularly for building tougher competition in actual tournaments.

Lol, that’s funny since the game had this at the beginning and it failed miserably.

And how exactly has the different implementations gone since then?

The only way to get better competition in a team game is to construct a format where teams thrive in. Ranked really isn’t that.

so let’s say this warrior build replaced a thief. just as fast. not as sneaky, but can stand for up to 25 seconds tanking on a node invulnerably…. a thief can’t just burst freely like that.

Well, ya, teams do it. Look at oRng. They replaced mesmer with mediguard and it worked out for them. My point was more or less that you can use other builds but in doing so you have to balance your team out still. Unless you want some polarized DPS heavy team that probably wouldn’t be too effective overall. Not so much if you’re just running around in solo queue, because without voice comms a lot of team support goes out of the window, so you can use a lot of various builds that aren’t centered around team support.

That warrior build is just another build with some changes. And you’re missing 2 trait points. If you create a build yourself it is 100% likely it will just be a variation of an older build.

Yeah, personal insults because you can’t provide your math. I listed mine before. I took 75% of signet of resolve’s healing (to compensate for CD difference), subtracted the base amount, then divided that difference by 0.25. I ended up with a little over 17,000 damage needed to reach the same HP/sec as un-traited signet of Resolve. Other than bunkers, your PvP will have between 16k and 20k HP, so you’d pretty much have to kill them outright in that 6 seconds. So it only works against the same people who face-tank a full 100blades.

Simple fact of the matter is that Litany of Wrath was balanced for PvE where mobs rarely kite and where you have damage bonuses galore as well as might and vuln stacking. But PvEers don’t use Litany of Wrath there either because shelter mitigating a 10k+ damage attack is still better.

And yes, kiting matters. A lot. If the guardian can’t land the damage, the healing bonus is pointless and you’re left with a piddly heal.

Btw, if you considered base Signet of Resolve against full traited Litany of Wrath, it needs ~5k damage to reach the same HP/sec. That’s reasonable, at least. However, Shelter does almost as much base HP/sec but the block is invaluable. Block one 5k damage attack with Shelter and in order for Litany of Wrath to compare, you would need to 20k damage.

Someone else listed the math. You should probably read the entire thread. Not to mention Heal/Time isn’t like the quadratic equation or anything where you or I really need to list it out.

And you’re ignoring the fact you have other damage mitigation tools in your kitten nal besides the block.

litany is countered by blocks/invuln/blinds etc while shelter is only countered by a few specific skills. for this reason, a well used shelter wins.

Depends on what role you are taking up whether to choose between the two. Using Litany in a team fight would be silly.

No, you’re the one that can’t do math. When you use shelter properly, it heals + prevents more than Signet of Resolve. Litany of Wrath requires you to do an absurd amount of damage to come close to the healing of Signet of Resolve (without the signet cooldown reduction trait).

You know what happens when I see a guardian use Litany of Wrath? Kite and laugh because I know they’re terrible.

Also, don’t play S/F not being desired on Thieves. Blame ANet for doing a poor job at Ele traits. Being stuck in the rut of Arcana and water is really lame and it messes up a lot of build options for Ele’s to be more viable.

You’re wrong. Good eles like Shnicky or Zoose can handle thieves while playing S/F ele. Sure, they die when the thief +1’s them, but who doesn’t die when that happens?

I kill thieves when I play fresh air. Sure, good thieves can kill me, but it’s more of a player issue on my part than a class/build mismatch.

OP always make threads and complain about any skills that potentially or counters Engis. In the past it was always about Ele and blast finishers. A high skilled Short bow ranger with S/D or S/T with Entangled can beat Engi with ease. Op has mentioned in the past that there should be a sign that shows up if Ranger have Shared Anguish up. Yes Entangled has short cool down when traited. Let’s talk about about Slick shoes with the double knockdown, elite crates, and that Incendiary Powder. Check Ops past post. You will hardly ever see a Engi complaint go figure

Condi ranger has way more cheap mechanics than Engie if you want to compare the two across the board.

You’re not being punished any more so than someone like me. I have mediocre MMR and get matched with people who don’t even understand map mechanics all the time. If I purely stick to my engineer I can get a pretty decent win/loss ratio. I think I had 60% quite awhile when they last reset the LB. Then I started playing other classes a little and my win/loss ratio tanked. Still on the right side of 50% though.

I feel like matchmaking is always some 50/50 proposition where I’m determining the 50% of my team’s chance of winning a larger amount of times than I should have to.

What would you rather?

A) Being teamed with obviously unskilled players.
B) Teaming with Ostrich (I have seen you teamed with him quite a bit) and other good players, and against other good players.

Ask that because obviously when the leaderboard is off season it is completely meaningless.

Mesmers work. I have no clue why people think other wise. Mesmer and thief working together is scary.

Thing with mesmers is that outside of Hellseth, Supcutie, Misha and a handful of others, there’s a skill gap. I think a lot of mesmers try to exceed their limitations in team fights and end up getting popped. Thieves have that happen to them too.

Im sorry guys i disagree, I was in a 3 man premade and were all in the same guild. Me and 1 of them play pvp quite a bit but the other person was completely new and tried out thief cause it was the daily. We look at our team and we get OE and another engy so we have 1 ele,1 ranger 2 engy and 1 thief. We look like some great premade but we got smoked.

The new person in our group felt bad but at no point is his fault were player upper tier players when he just started doing pvp. Seriously its gotten to the point me and other people who are decent players in pvp cant take around new guild members in pvp cause they end up getting smoked even when in team speak.

Seriously give it a rest, not every premade team 3+ or 5 even is gonna be great. LOL none of you have probelms talking sheech at the end of the match after beating a so called premade.

I don’t talk in game in team or map chat whether or not I beat or lose to premades.

People should not have to deal with premades whether the premade is good or bad when the old system adequately handled the division of solo players and teams.

Anet needs to add incentives (ie automated tournament w/ gem rewards or gold) to encourage teams to form, not just shove all players into one pot.

It’s funny how firebird is even commenting, he doesn’t really know pvp….. he follows crysis and just get ressed after eating everything possible and dodging afterwards. Anyways, this change is idiotic… just making cele and ranger even more powerful, along with making thief mes and guard less viable. Why have a thief? Because mobility and burst. Whats this doing? Limiting mobility basically making it even harder to play thief in already and aids/cancer cele meta…. GG anet once again you amaze me.

It’s funny because I’ve won more tournaments then you’ve been in. Played bunker guard too (so I’ve been the one rezzing crysis in the past) and I hope you can learn to do something other than spam dodge and hope sharks with lazers will reform and want you :P

Hmm, you’ve been carried in more tournaments than me sure. But in general you are an awful player with awful opinions, maybe Cwysis can teach you how to play

I would argue with you but tbh I haven’t the slightest idea who you are, did I grind your solo queue into the ground one day and you thought this was a good opportunity to get back at me or something?

I’ve juggled you when I have come across your team. Your brother is the only reason why you can accomplish anything. In general you’re not good with positioning or anything at all because you have a crutch you rely on. If you want to call yourself the best power necro, get rid of your crutch and actually learn it, or be open to criticism because you have that crutch.
