Leaderboards a joke. anyone with a sub 60% win rate should definitely not be anywhere near the top (really imo would say 75%). but when you have guys lower than 50% then its really pathetic that they are near the top just because they have nothing else to do but play.

You realize no one had even close to a 75% winrate in the old system except people with less than 100 games?

Not all classes carry and not all people play premades.

WvW isn’t the place to pick up the basics. You pick up bad habits from WvW. I know this because that’s where I played for the majority of time before transitioning into spvp.

sPvP and WvW are really different beasts under the hood. WvW is super power creepy.

If heartless is dedicated to becoming a better player he needs to understand making a crap ton of mistakes and learning from those mistakes is how every one does it. It’s like every game or activity in life you’re not good at, it requires time and practice.

That’s not how you learn to survive 3v3 or 4v4s in mid fights. In zergs you rarely need to rotate your skills properly. In spvp you have to pretty much learn how to use all your skills and when to use them.

I only say that as A-net seems be brutally against having a match making system put into practice. So if you hit a certain threshold you no longer see new players or low ranked players.

Anything to help me learn what to be doing without getting curb stomped like seems to be the case. It’s interesting but it just seems like A-net has been lowering the options and diversity instead of broadening it. For both pve and pvp. They’re driving people away instead of keeping them in.

Go to dueling servers.
Ask questions. A lot of people will answer them.
Perhaps search for videos of the class you are playing.
Learn builds and why some builds aren’t played in spvp. I have seen some quite useless builds in spvp recently.
Accept the occasional curbstomp will happen.

If PvP is something your serious about learning. I reccomend starting in the WvW zergs. If you fight on the outskirts of the zerg youl often get thust into quick 1-2v1-2 situations Itl teach you situational awareness as youl need to keep an eye on the murderball to know where you need to move. Youl also be able to learn the class mechanics of certain classes and there weaknesses as zerg fights tend to be over at the same speed as a 4v4 on mid. This is due to people casting there abilities very quickly in an attempt to quickly overwhelm the group.

This is horrible advice.

If you want to learn how to pvp correctly then spvp is the place to do it.

How is ele traited for good damage?

All comps historically have had 2-3 people who stand on point for their team. In the past these were fully dedicated bunkers, like bunker guard, beastmaster ranger, or cantrips ele. These builds also took lots of rez utility making kills on each teams dps much rarer because of how many rezes you can get off. These days it’s just 2 cele bunkers on each NA team and EU is catching on to that style of only 2 bunkers.

In the cele meta things that stand on node actually do damage and this quickens the pace of the game by a lot.

The main difference is that when you take these dedicated bunkers its often not a bad idea to take 3 and let your thief/mesmer roam and do all the work. We’ve seen this on EU quite a lot and that is the source of the slow paced games that all time out, not the cele meta. The cele meta encourages the complete opposite.

I’ll say it now though. I personally like their being more damage in the game. Does it restrict what people used to play out of the meta like bunker guard mesmer etc? Yes. Is it too powerful? Yes. But it’s certainly not all bad and it’s something that should be worked around and not deleted.

Cele does need nerfed. The other classes/specs can be brought back. Regardless of how much cele has restricted out of the game, this is still some of the more diverse guildwars we have seen compared to the past although as of the last few weeks we’ve seen more and more of it.

Anet please put some critical thought into your changes. I don’t mind getting blown out against a team like Abjured but when only two team mates (myself included) are playing non-daily classes it’s dumb.

People are not just playing matches to appear on the leaderboards, they play what they like and now they have a good chance to appear on leaderboards also so what’s the harm in it? If super hardcore pro people have problems that they cannot stay on the leaderboards without playing much or cannot get the limelight anymore, they should try their luck in ESL or other big events to show how good they are. Gw2 leaderboards is FOR EVERY gw2 player, it’s for every skill-level player NOT just for those who after getting a rank, stops playing so they can stay on the leaderboards forever. Also, we don’t have 1 v 1 modes yet so you cannot decide on a technical skill-based leaderboard for players, old leaderboards were showing how good their teams were tbh and was based on plain win or loose, now we have several factors which contribute to your points (not just how much time you spend in pvp). Current leaderboard is for Active PvP player base, makes it fair for all and it’s much more rewarding in my opinion.

This leaderboard is not for every GW2 player. There are more players who aren’t going to grind for points than there are people who are going to grind for points. It’s fair to people who have a crap ton of time to put into the game, and not so fair to people who either have busy lives or not always motivated to spam pvp games.

Yo style. Lets not kitten the discussion up by speculating who can take a d/d ele in a 1v1. That’s not how the game actually works out in reality. Often times I have to leave a point on my ele when a necro decides to corrupt boon and his pack of hooligans decide to try to burst me down. Whereas guardians are able to sustain themselves on point until halp arrives.

Just test by using various builds on classes and having 2 or 3 guys on various combos of classes damage you OP while you cycle through your skills and time how long you last on classes.

What I have read from other posters have don’t seem to take into account opponents.

My guess is a guardian is still better than others for bunking points if you just measured by how long a class can last.

I personally don’t care as the mini llamas and Glorious armor pieces mean nothing to me. I climbed to the top twenty five first day of patch, and by no means the best of my class right now. I play to learn the game and have fun, not play 30 games a day just for some leaderboard status.

You see the same people in the big tournaments for a reason. They put in time. They are the best players. Not many teams form on any serious level.

Why reward “top na teams” if they only play 1 game a week? This isn’t the previous leader boards. This isn’t a tournament. It’s a pvp season.
That said, teams/players who are consistently getting that 400+ point margin shouldn’t earn a point if they have (obviously) high mmr, or, high on the leaderboards. Shouldn’t LB rank 1 already give you high mmr? I’ll let the devs handle the data and recalculate what ever they need to recalculate from this test season.

It’s not a grind. It’s being consistent. If these players stop playing, they risk losing that position. If they aren’t winning, they risk losing that position. There are numerous teams and players who are doing what the current top rank 25 player’s are doing. Just inconsistently so.

Regardless, ESL tournaments and the like will reward you not just fame, but an all around bigger payout. Why give these players automatic top 5 on the pvp season leaderboards?
(Come to think of it, that would be kind of cool)

Who said one game a week?

If a player ends the season with 300 games they cannot compete with someone who spammed out 1k+ games. It’s a silly grindfest. Rewarding people for games played isn’t deciding anything except who has the most time on their hands to play video games.

I’ll take a blow out game here and there over waiting more than 8 minutes. I play solo. I climbed to the top 25 with a higher than 60% winrate on the first day of this new ladder. I have had about the same amount of close matches as the old system, and only a few landslides and some of those were 4v5s.

I have some backgrounds in statistics. Not any real strenuous statistics beyond checking for heteroskedacity and doing Chi, Z, T-tests and running linear regressions.

There seems to be some variance of points people have on leaderboard with same number of wins and roughly the same winning %. I’m curious as to if MMR is producing these results.

I don’t really care too much about leaderboards, but think point system may need looking into as it seems RNG-ish on a just mere glance.

Eles and engies offer a ton of team support in the traditional sense. How is healing, sharing some boons, and condi clearing (if engie is running e-gun opposed to one of the other stun breaker utils) not tradition team support?

Because unlike the traditional bunker guardians, eles, engis, and warriors can easily kill people while bunkering/contesting/assaulting a point.

Anet should probably look at how traits work on eles and engies a little since there’s not as much room to deviate with builds as some other classes have.

You should probably emphasize this point a bit more, because only reducing might to 25 is a joke for a class that just runs around surviving until people burn to death. If there’s not a big hit to your burn durations then you should expect internal cooldowns for Cleansing Water and a higher ICD for Renewing Stamina.

Can’t emphasize the point of traits too much when there’s so much work that could be done on all eight classes in that area.

I actually never played a class because of their OPness. My ele and engie are two of my oldest toons and I play them for fun. I would prefer a gw2 world where all classes brought equal stuff to the plate. I like mesmer just as much as the other two classes but it’s incredibly hard to play and doesn’t help teams enough imo.

I have already stated that a shave to the celestial amulet and reducing might from 35 power and condi per stack to 25 or some other level that is reasonable would be how I would start to balance those two classes.

My view is the sustain on ele and engie is fine. The damage on top of it is what pushes them over the edge.

Tell me more about how hambow is viable against celestial eles on points. Should we be looking at your vigor or protection uptime instead?

The main purpose of the current shout warrior only seems to be to have enough sustain and on-demand condition removal to stalemate eles in this meta.

You are stating a warrior’s role is stalemate eles. This is neglecting a lot of aspects of warriors. Warriors can have multiple roles with the diversity of builds they have available to them.

Shoutbow and Hambow only server one purpose.

Evis builds can be strong
Hammer with a number of offhand weapons can be strong as well
Rifle warrior was strong but lol rangers stole the role

Fact is you want to play a bunk role. That’s fine, but don’t say that’s the only viable thing when other things work with team support.

Also tell me about the vigor, the stance durations, fury uptime, on warriors.

Just because you may only play metabuilds doesn’t mean warriors don’t have access to some nice things.

My point still stands. I would gladly give up all the benefits that celestial and might stacking have on warriors, because then I would be able to viably move to something else.

It isn’t an appeal to authority. Warriors pigeon hole themselves into some belief only x-builds work when it simply is not true.

Warriors and guardians use celestial. Besides it is not the amulet alone that is the cause of the worst issues.

Hi. As a warrior main who has been bottlenecked into celestial I would love nothing more than for it to be removed. As a warrior who stacks might even more than you do on your ele, I would love nothing more than for might stacking to be toned down.

So, please don’t try to speak for us. Most of us would prefer to be able to kill people with power and CC weapons rather than with Geomancy sigils.

Want to compare hours on warriors?

There’s nothing stopping you from killing people with hammers and other weapon sets except you watched one or two guys play specific builds.

I would guess I ran hambow less then 30% of the time on my warrior in spvp matches when that was a thing and did fine. Was even good on ye olde killshot builds. Though obviously if I was in ESLs or tournaments I wouldn’t play certain stuff unless the team was built around it.

hi Ive been playing competitive pvp for a while
yes individually radioactive is not that great
however I would also like to point out that d/d ele and cele engi are ridiculously easy builds to run. Seriously try to play them in competitive pvp with like 5-15hours and youll do just fine. I consistantly beat people with my <20 hour d/d ele who have played thousands of hours on their classes (I still got rekt by caed in that ESL monthly tho cuz Ive never fought a dp thief on my ele before LOL)

I am not talking about whether builds are easy, but the mechanics of controlling characters.

Would you say a necro or ele is harder to play given just mechanics alone, and not opponents, positioning, builds?

As a cele staff ele, I think we need some kind of buff, not nerf.
We die really quick to everything else, or at least I do with my own build (probably don’t have right traits/skills).
If anything, thieves, warriors (healing signet really), engies, and mesmers need nerfs. Stupid zerk/condi builds have to go. You shouldn’t be able to down people in 2 seconds.

If you are dying too quickly it is your build. Staff ele is really obnoxious in the regards of how much sustain it has. You pretty much can get perma-regen going if you are able to blast your waterfields.

EDIT: You still can get bursted down by good bursty builds.

No offense, I have played every single class in this game with at least 500+ hrs. Granted a lot of that time was roaming in wvw, but Elementalist and engineer are the hardest classes to play, whether or not they’re OP, and if you think it is faceroll it’s time for you to get good.

Yes, Lich skill one takes an incredibly high skill level that keeping track of weapon kits and attunement swaps doesn’t. Maybe I should even up my skill level by putting on mercy runes and following my team mates around to res them.

They might have team chat turned off. I turn it off and on depending on my mood. Sometimes I just can’t be bothered and will likely say rude stuff to team mates. An example of this was last night I had a team that funneled into mid 1 by 1 and died repeatedly, while I tried to retake home and couldn’t because the burst duo sitting on it was real. They started to whine about player-X on my team going to far. Well, player-X kept winning far. The whiners should have helped with home or far, but they decided complaining about dying to the same thing over and over and blaming player-X was the better option.

That’s why that button is no bueno.

Lol, no one is “dodging” anyone.. There are about 10 players that are top tier in NA, these 10 players make up the two best competitive teams in North America… These two teams beat every other team in the game.. These teams are not scared of fighting each other, in fact they welcome it. However it requires all 10 players to be on to play each other… Which unfortunately is quite rare.

So “super pugs” form where 3 players from team A and 2 players from team B join up since the rest of their team is on//

It is dodging whether you like it or not, and regardless of the intent of the Abjured and others. I don’t mean it in a negative way either. When your best competition is on your own team and there’s a huge gap between other competitors there’s really only one solution if you are a true competitor.

I’m talking about how things operate within the new ghettofabulous grindfest leaderboard, because it doesn’t rank teams.

Their intent is to get players to try new things. Unfortunately this means they likely won’t make changes that conflict with this.

The main issue I see with this is it hampers players like me who are trying to get really good on a specific class.

I play every class on the game and currently rank 50 on the leaderboards.
Acknowledging your weaknesses and positioning is what makes you a good player, not how well you can solo people.

I’m higher on the leaderboards than you or was on my main account. Not that that has anything to do with anything.

Where did I imply soloing people was important?

I don’t want to play necro or guardian because I have played them before. If I wanted to play them I would play them. Anet is directly saying either play those classes or lose out on rewards. It’s a junk system for people who want to play and get better at one specific class.

If you are fine with your time being wasted that’s on you. I don’t like my time being wasted on a reward system that’s flawed when it comes to the most competitive part of the game.
