Am i the only one that actually learned to time other player’s skills instead of watching them on their character? looking at buffs and estimating cooldowns? yesterday i dodged 5 evicerates in a row from an asura war just by looking at my cooldowns every so often to know when 5 secs pass (i am aware that evic has a 10 sec cd)
The only actual visual animation i look out for is the giant blue aura when anyone heals to interrupt it, and obvious casted skills like ele casting meteor shower, killshot, and stupid stuff like that.
This is not bragging, this is just how I though most people played; by knowing the class theyre fighting. And no, im not a 90% pve hero noob.
So what happen’s when you face a good Warrior, last night I had Warrior using Soldier’kitten me for 6125+1700 (Lightning Strike) using evic, I was running bunker Ranger, now tell me how is that fair I couldn’t see him coming there was allot of AoE to point where I couldn’t even see myself.
i dont see how my argument is any different against a good warrior. i face good warriors. Ill make it easier for you: target the warrior, if you see 3 stacks of intelligence on his bar that evic is coming
Take if when you face a Warrior you have pack of Winny Red’s tucked under the sleeve of your shirt while rocking the mullet.

So name me all the meta builds that are viable using Soldier’s.
Hambow and axe/intelligence sigil warriors, correct? MM necro is also a contender. I’m not aware of any meta thief, engineer, mesmer, ele, or ranger soldier’s amulet builds.
I’ve been told about some Engineer decap builds that have been using but not sure how viable they are these day’s with the which of Celestial Amulet.
Hmm, good thought, a turret decap engi might do well with soldier’s. Although healing power is nice on an engineer.
Still, that’s a total of two warrior builds and an almost-meta necro and engineer build. I’m not seeing a huge reason to remove soldier’s amulet.
Just my opinion, to me any build using Soldier’s that say might stack’s loses 6k hp is rather decent trade off.

Who? Bunker Thieves? Bunker Necros? Bunker Mesmers?
An amulet does not make you a bunker. If there are classes that are able to run Soldiers and do high damage nerf that build then. You don’t go nerfing random kitten, especially things as limited as amulets, just because 2-3 builds can abuse it.

Look I’m not saying it will fix all the problem’s we are having, but it sure would fix big problem with new rune/sigil change’s where some classes can abuse.
I suggest you nerf hambow (or whatever warrior build is annoying you) if it is actually too strong. Strength runes are also a massive suspect, considering you get massive free might uptime +% damage just by having might, completely outclassing every other power rune. But instead you want to nerf literally the LEAST broken part of the problem, and the one that will affect the most non-abusive builds.
Your fixed on Warrior’s rather sick reading your narrow minded posts. I think everyone know’s Str runes are strong atm, but say they nerf the 7% everyone will just change to different might stacking rune, it won’t effect the might stack’s some classes are getting.

You break every single build that uses soldier amulet just because warriors happen to abuse it, and then the still broken warrior build swaps over to another very similar amulet and are still too strong.
If there is a problem, you fix the problem directly. Soldiers amulet is not the problem.

Soldier’s amulet is not the problem, the problem is certain builds being able to maintain 25 might stacks with no real drawback and getting +7% damage from it while swapping weapons to get free crits. Not every profession can take advantage of this, its pretty much just warrior/elementalist (not even sure if eles use soldiers either).
So now take away Soldier’s Amulet, what do you think happens.

I would like to see this Amulet removed from SPvP or banned from upcoming Events.
Why, it take’s away them Bunker spec’s that are able to have a massive tank while bursting (AKA The Bunker Meta).
Bunker – Shouldn’t be able to burst just as good as other classes using Berserker amulet.
Burst – Shouldn’t be able to Tank just as well as a Bunker build.
So before you post remember this, Int + Battle Sigil + Str Runes = very high damage on Soldier’s.

Actually! MM is a “very high skilled” spec! It’s hard to avoid all the AOE, pets die in seconds, and it’s one of the few builds that doesn’t have a stun break (unless you run wurm and kitten yourself in other ways, and it has to be pre-casted), no protection/stability/evades/blocks/vigor, and low mobility etc. Very skilled spec is skilled! Wrong, Magic Find +100% Essence of Luck. You can farm them in PvP, so question you need to ask was it dumb luck or just more passive play from a passive stat called Magic Find.

Get rid. Of. Asura. Problem solved, its not longbows problem (entirely, combustion shot is too big), its animations you can’t see (like eviscerates) coming out of the particle effect that makes warriors strong. Imo, warrior benefits the most from asura, no other class has such hard hitting singe skills with all that tanky-ness. If you dodge them warriors are easy, if you don’t you will die.
Add Int sigil’s + Str runes to Asura. (Can’t see there massive 25 might stacked spikes coming)

I’ve not made post in a while, but I just wanted to say it’s nice idea Durzlla but healing is worthless.
There just to much raw damage + condition damage to make healing on that type of scale worth while, your better of aiming for X amount of damage and mitigate incoming damage. But let’s be honest Ranger’s got replaced last patch we don’t have anything useful anymore apart from Spirit Elite.

Except if you were playing these 200 games you claim to it would actually show those games on the website every single day you play EVEN if you’re not in top 1,000.
9,000 isn’t a rank, it’s a place-holder for anyone who has been top 1,000.
So if I understand you correctly you’re saying that that website won’t show your games played if you’re not currently in top 1,000? If that’s your claim ill show you plenty of people not currently in top 1,000 that are still displaying games played won and lost which has been updated every single day despite not currently being top 1k.
My point being it shows you as not playing any. Though there is a glitch where it won’t show your games played if you only played 1 that day. Since you’ve played 200+
Then we should be seeing about ~20 games played per day based on when you made that post.When you add me to your friends list at work, and notice that my Leadboard stats are different simply because I am not in top 1000 what will you say then?
You know you can post your pvp pie chart with games played to completely settle your “uncounted games” argument and it will speak for itself.

Also I have games played before leaderboards even came out, so the numbers would not be accurate. It would state I’ve played 3k+ tournament games.

Hi, back on Dec 18th, 2012 I released a video under one of my old character names. The old days was the best days.
- Before the Pet Nerf.
- EB Removed all conditions every 10 seconds.
- QZ on a 5 point trait.
The glory days when Ranger had a decent chance to live in WvW, you didn’t have to worry about OP Warrior’s and Epic Condition Spamming from Necro’s. PU Mesmers sucked also. Was so darn good back then, Thief’s and Mesmers felt rather balanced to fight even know there Burst Damage was rather deadly.

Yes, I did say that. I also said in that post that we are investigating ways that we can get proper metrics to reflect the majority of the playerbase. If you knew the amount of players that actually played PvP in our game, then you would understand why a strawpoll with 300 votes is not sufficient.
That’s not to say that we don’t talk about it internally. We talk about it quite a lot.
If the issue was as simple as me making a strawpoll, I’d do it; but it’s not. A very, very small percentage of our playerbase even visit these forums, let alone vote on a poll.
You need to do in-game poll, there is very large amount of players whom refuse to read the forums at all and play PvP.
You guy’s need to check out what Dota 2 does, after I think it’s 3 games they have quick popup and ask you to rate, E.g. how was your team communication. This helps Dota 2 dev’s find where the problems are and work on ways to improve it.

Granted, I only goof in HJ for Daily as I prefer WvW, but I play a Ranger non condition non spirit build and I have a folder FULL of Screenies of people either kittening me out for being “OP” or giving me props…just sayin’

Just a heads up, Furious Grip does not last 10 seconds, it only lasts 5 seconds doesn’t stack with boon duration. It might be a bug but I have feel it was designed so didn’t last 10 seconds so we had perma fury….. Been like this for very long time….

Rangers are fine as they are right now TBH. Sure we need some polish, but EVERY class needs polish…well maybe not warriors
That being said Rangers are great in PvP, WvW, and ok in PvE. The ONLY place they need help in is GvG scene, and let’s face it. Anet don’t recognize that scene so let’s not hold our breath.
As for that CDI discussion…..ppl are just lobbying to get their class OP as possible.
You can take your make believe GvG Scene and drown it. To even call GvG a game mode makes me think your living under a really really heavy rock.
SPvP = 1 Viable build for past 5 months….

Power Builds = There has never been a viable one…

For once be nice if Ranger’s had any type of burst build that works in SPvP.
It’s a flaming joke, you compare HGH Engineer with rifle to Trap Ranger. It tanks better does 10x more damage and applies conditions allot easier.
This game makes me feel so handy capped. The kitten Ranger whom does no damage outside of running Support Spirit Ranger which also hits like wet paper bag.

So glad those were fake. I guess I jumped the gun with my frustrations, but nerfing a skill that there are currently zero problems with sounded.. kind of a typical of what I expect from ranger patches these days.
theyre not fake, maybe outdated. anet makes a post about this every time, and it’s always a lie. people pull this from alpha builds, so likely theyve just been updated.
anyways, the pet responsiveness fix is needed but only a small step forward. cast time needs to be 0.5-0.75s at most because pet slowboating to its target is enough for a cast time in itself. some abilities are 2 freaking seconds. unbelievable. the only f2 that affects the outcome of fight is wolf fear, thats about it. anyway, this stuff is small beans. ranger needs big sweeping changes and someone to man up to it.

Ranger pets are receiving a responsiveness pass and will be much easier to command. For example: Activating your F2 skill will now break your pet out of its current action in order to execute that ability.

It’s a whole bunch of changes that don’t in their totality even remotely address the balance equilibrium whatsoever.
The weakest part about ranger power builds, or the thing they are lacking the most, especially with the underwhelming burst options outside of Greatsword, is the inability to remove protection/regen/stability/etc. If we had a reliable, consistent way of removing boons like protection, then even in their current state, power builds would immediately become more viable than they ever were.
It is why thief and mesmer burst builds are so strong; they have readily available means of removing protection so that they can guarantee their maximum damage output. Warriors not so much, but Healing Signet and good damage coefficients and stability access gives them ridiculous staying power in order to keep in an opponents face until they have an opportunity to deal their burst damage.
The other issue is Empathic Bond. No ranger player in their right mind is going to stop running Empathic Bond in PvP or small scale WvW because of the plethora of condition spam and the lack of valuable removal options outside of Empathic Bond.
Until either of these issues are addressed, ranger builds will stay largely unaffected unless the weapons get retooled.
I have to disagree in some points..Prot is getting countered by vuln…Longbow and Greatsword have some good access to vuln..
And LR removes 3 very hurtfull conditions from Ranger in a good CD..Its will be ok for an “oh kitten” skill..
I have to see the dmg that the maul will make and its reliability, cause if its high enough im pretty sure that some ppl will glady ignore the cond removal
Prot doesn’t get countered by vulnerability though, it just gets reduced effectiveness. Even with max vulnerability stacks, somebody with prot is still taking 8% less damage from your attacks.
Compare that to the classes that I mentioned that not only have more on demand burst damage that can take bigger “chunks” of health away AND have on demand boon removal to guarantee their damage, and it ensures that rangers will never be a “best-in-slot” option comparatively for power builds.
Yes, the LR change is a good change though. But it doesn’t cleanse the damaging conditions, and builds that utilize damaging conditions have literally been running the game as far as small scale combat/pvp goes for more than a year (pvp has transitioned into hambow/evade thief/spirit ranger/bunker guard cores for the most part because cheese builds that have good self sustain).
Now, don’t get me wrong, these are just ranger specific changes. Both of the issues I’m talking about could be alleviated entirely by rune or sigil changes (since more than one class complains about not having enough cleanse or boon removal, it would be the best blanket solution), and at that point, with these changes, it would open up an insane amount of build possibilities, or at least many, many more than what are currently available.
I was just commenting on how little has actually been addressed as far as the major issues that have been holding the ranger in the position it’s been in versus the metagame and/or best in slot build options through ranger specific changes, if these notes are correct.
Well some of the problems have been addressed with change’s to other classes rather then changes to the ranger.
We can’t really say how the game will change until we see full list of Rune/Sigil changes.
Thief’s are still strong after the patch which will be problem, Warriors wont be as strong anymore we can finally counter play them. Decap Engineer is getting some rather big buffs from what I’ve been told.
There will be 2 different class tiers, Engineer and Thief will be top, everyone else below.

This patch look’s like they finally making some good changes they still need to address Pet’s and our LB and look at ways to improve our condition remove, rather sick of it being stuck in Condition/Toughness traitline.
Now to wait and see the changes to Rune/Sigil’s then we can really say if this patch is decent.
I can see ranger having nice mix of viable builds for SPvP, Trap/Power/BM/Spirit. Each with different rolls.
I think after reading this topic once the ICD topic for ranger’s is up we should push for change’s to our Pets, LB and condition remove.

But Condition Durations? That makes everything better for a Ranger trap-setter.
‘Free’ extra 30% condition duration might be a bit too convenient, though. I would be even more concerned about that condition damage-wise than the set up Sol described when Traps where moved to Wilderness Survival.
It’s a risk vs reward. Biggest problem I have at the moment with Trap’s are we are forced to use 3 Slot skills (Utilities) to make them effective.
So I would like to be rewarded for taking a Risky build rather then all risk with no reward.

contrary to popular belief trap ranger has always been a viable build, if you knew how to adapt.
Find that hard to believe here is a list of current meta builds that counter Trap Ranger when in a good players hands,
- Warriors – S/S-LB.
- Warrior – H-LB.
- Warrior – A/S-LB.
- Enginer -any build running AR.
- Necro – Spite/Corrupt combo.
- Thief’s – Decent thief running SB and lyssa will counter a Trap Ranger.
Now lets take look at the current meta, almost all them builds are extremely common in both SPvP and TPvP…..
You sometimes beat one of them builds due to skills being on CD or they didn’t take the right trait. Normally something stupid.

Keeping with granting Rangers more Active Condition removal this trait now removes 2 Conditions from the Ranger when he Interrupts a target. Dazes and Stun Duration are increased by 100%. This makes weapon attacks such as the longbow knockback, path of scars, shortbow and great sword dazes as active condition removals for the Ranger.

Flight Control – This Trait has replaced Trap Potency which was combined with Trapper’s Expertise, This Trait increases Shortbow/Axe Mainhand range to 1200.

I have just one request, even though I know that for the forum population – which seems extremely specialized compared to the general playerbase ingame – this is going to be highly unpopular:
Please don’t base balancing decisions on sPvP.
It is a much too specialized and “quirky” game mode. It doesn’t reflect the kind of combat which comes up in both WvW and PvE, it lacks anti-structure combat, it lacks logistics, it has it’s own set of items and rules. It’s not at all a representative game mode, and should be last-priority (IMO) behind PvE, smallscale (dungeon) PvE, WvW combat and WvW material warfare (no specific order between those).
I understand that it often seems on the forums that sPvP is the game mode or something. But ingame it really doesn’t feel like many players actually play sPvP. And it worries me that this playerbase seems to “camp the forums”, so to say, making the forum opinion seems drastically different from what is experienced ingame when talking to players.
Please don’t base balance in such a vocal minority.
What you just said is like someone whom only does SPvP coming to the forums and saying the same thing but changing where you put PvE and WvW with SPvP and TPvP.
Also you should take the time to read some of the idea’s us SPvP players are putting forward, if you look closely they greatly increase viability of Rangers in both PvE and WvW. Allot of us Ranger’s whom play SPvP have spent allot of time in both WvW and PvE. Speaking from personal exp, I’ve done more WvW then I have SPvP………
Edit: Also you rarely ever see the balance dev’s taking any idea’s or input from the player base and using them. Only input I’ve seen them take are things like make Spirit’s viable. Pet’s do to much damage. Normally they look at what people think and come up with there own ideas.
Fact is, that the shortbow recieved some PvP related nerfs which makes him to a really pitiful dps weapon in PvE.
Wrong again, that wasn’t related to PvP, it was related to animation bug which they fixed and that is the reason for the so called “nerf”.

Yes, so lets make the ultimate GUARDIANTHIEF, best of both worlds, balance.
You mean the fact that warriors are less tanky, offer less team support, and are incapable of bunkering like a guardian can, and they do less damage, have less flexibility, and are less slippery than a thief? Ok.
The only thing going for warriors is their handful of good weapons that do cool things in combination with traits, and a heal that makes them feel less like wet toilet paper. Longbow is cool. Hammer is cool. Sword is cool. That’s it.
Yet Warriors are the best class in the game atm.

I have just one request, even though I know that for the forum population – which seems extremely specialized compared to the general playerbase ingame – this is going to be highly unpopular:
Please don’t base balancing decisions on sPvP.
It is a much too specialized and “quirky” game mode. It doesn’t reflect the kind of combat which comes up in both WvW and PvE, it lacks anti-structure combat, it lacks logistics, it has it’s own set of items and rules. It’s not at all a representative game mode, and should be last-priority (IMO) behind PvE, smallscale (dungeon) PvE, WvW combat and WvW material warfare (no specific order between those).
I understand that it often seems on the forums that sPvP is the game mode or something. But ingame it really doesn’t feel like many players actually play sPvP. And it worries me that this playerbase seems to “camp the forums”, so to say, making the forum opinion seems drastically different from what is experienced ingame when talking to players.
Please don’t base balance in such a vocal minority.
What you just said is like someone whom only does SPvP coming to the forums and saying the same thing but changing where you put PvE and WvW with SPvP and TPvP.
Also you should take the time to read some of the idea’s us SPvP players are putting forward, if you look closely they greatly increase viability of Rangers in both PvE and WvW. Allot of us Ranger’s whom play SPvP have spent allot of time in both WvW and PvE. Speaking from personal exp, I’ve done more WvW then I have SPvP………
Edit: Also you rarely ever see the balance dev’s taking any idea’s or input from the player base and using them. Only input I’ve seen them take are things like make Spirit’s viable. Pet’s do to much damage. Normally they look at what people think and come up with there own ideas.
Except less people play pvp than the rest of the game.
Yeah, cause PvE and WvW get all the update’s……

Ranger SPvP Only 100%. The complete list of changes required from my point of view.
Weapons
Greatswords
- Maul – Activation time increased to 1/2 from 3/4.
Longbow
- Long Range Shot (Auto-Attack) – Increase damage by 10%.
- Rapid Fire – Increase damage by 50%.
- Hunter’s Shot – Increase damage by 100%
- Point Blank Shot – Increase damage by 100%
- Barrage – Is now a Blast Finisher and increase Radius to 480.
Axe (main and off-hand)
- Ricochet – Increase damage by 10%.
- Splitblade – Will about-face to target.
- Whirling Defense – You can move while using.
Torch
- Bonfire – Increase radius to 180
Warhorn
- Hunter’s Call – Now also Blinds target for 5 seconds.
Slot Skills
Healing
- Heal as One – Increase heal to 8520.
- Water Spirit – Aqua Surge now also removes 2 condition as well (Active Skill)
Utility
Shouts
- Sic’Em – Now effects both the Ranger and Pet.
Signets
- All active effect’s now effect the ranger as well, no longer require’s Signet of the Beastmaster Trait.
Survival
- Lightning Reflexes – No longer deals damage, removes immobilize/chilling/cripple instead.
- Quickening Zephyr – Now also removes blind.
Trap
- Spike Trap – Now has Smoke combo field.
- Frost Trap – Also deals 280 Pulse damage for 5 seconds.
Traits
Marksmanship
- Eagle Eye – Also increases shortbow range and damage.
- Signet of the Beastmaster – Removed from the game.
- Trapper’s Expertise – Moved to Marksmanship Master tier, increase ground targeting range to 900
- Trap Potency – Moved to Marksmanship Grandmaster tier.
Skirmishing
- Tail Wind – Now scales with boon duration.
- Furious Grip – Now scales with boon duration.
- Sharpened Edges – Now inflicts in Vulnerability for 5 seconds on critical hit, no longer inflicts bleeding.
- Companion’s Might – Now grants might to both the Ranger and Pet.
- (New Grandmaster) Beastmaster – Pet’s deal 30% more damage and take 30% less damage.
Wilderness Survival
- Hide in Plain Sight – Moved to Grandmaster tier, now Applies stealth rather then camouflage and transfers effect to pet.
- Empathic Bond – Moved to Master tier.
Nature Magic
- Nature’s Voice – Shouts now Heal for X amount and scale off healing power no longer applies Regeneration and swiftness.
Beastmastery
- Stability Training – Pets grant Stability to nearby allies when activated.
Pet’s
- Globle – Fix F2 skill so it will about-face and no longer requires to be attacking the target before using there F2.
- Globle – Pets take 20% less damage from AoE.

Spirit Ranger is our only viable build for TPvP. You can get away with other builds in Solo Que.
Spirit Ranger in Team Que is only good as a Team Support builds, you can run the more tank Shaman’s build and try to hold backpoint or be Solo on a point on rotations, but Engineers and Warriors will out shine you in 1v1.
So if anything don’t let yourself get stuck holding mid while your guardian rotate’s to backpoint to team fight cause soon as there backpoint rotates to mid good chance its a Engineer or Warrior and they will decap you and kill you. Only way your going to stand a chance is if you let them have the point and play the ranged game slowly working them down.

Warrior – 4 Sigils = every 9 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.
Ranger – 4 Sigils = every 10 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.
Thief – 4 Sigils = every 10 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.
Necro – 4 Sigils = every 10 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.
Mesmer – 4 Sigils = every 10 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.Engi – 2 Sigils = every 10 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.
Ele – 2 Sigils = every 10 seconds 2 will proc on weapon swap.Sigil = 9 second internal cool-down.
So if a Warrior has 4 Different Sigil’s all having there own internal cool-downs before you can use that same type sigil again, wouldn’t change anything they still going to have to wait the 9 second cool-down before that sigil will proc again. So if anything they will work same as every other class just they can swap every 9 seconds compared to everyone else whom has to wait 10 seconds.
If I’ve missed something here please let me know, but going off these fact’s I can’t see how Warriors will be any better with Sigil’s then they currently are.
Each Sigil has it’s own ICD, not even sharing by types anymore. So say a Warrior has two on-swap (Battle and Geo) on one set, and two on another (Hydro and Leech). He starts combat, then swaps weapons. Battle and Geo activate and go on 9s CD. Then 5 seconds later, he swaps again. Hydro and Leech go on 9s and Battle and Geo are now kitten seconds later, he swaps again. Battle and Geo are off CD and now Hydro and Leech are 4s.
Get it? They get double the effect compared to someone else with double the CD for weapon swap.
Cool that sounds right, yeah I can’t see this being major problem if a Warrior want’s to Swap weapons every 5 seconds I say let him it anything makes it easy for me.
A warrior that Spam’s is easier to beat then Warrior that waits to use his skills, which means there going to be waiting same amount of time as everyone else.
Balance won’t be thrown out the window if anything your going to get more stupid Warriors.

I like to compare the Trap Ranger to other Condition bomb builds, we really lack in that department.
Necros/Engineers out shine us in how much damage/condition damage they can throw out, there survival is even better, I really hope Anet takes look at the trap ranger build and maybe they will change it or just give us better Survival.
I want might stacking, there is trait where on Critical hit you stack 1 Might for 5 seconds on your pet, why doesn’t this work for both the ranger and pet also duration should be longer given other classes can get 20 second long might stacks rather easy.

Conditions, do they require the full second or can you get away with E.g. Currently 3.9 second duration on condition but only get 3 ticks rather then 4 ticks. (3 + 30% = 3.9)
Is this a bug or do conditions no matters what round themselves down even know your 0.1 second off the full 4 seconds.
It’s been like this for a while I’m just wondering is this how its meant to be or is it really a bug.

Secondly, if you think this build is that bad, then please, 1v1 me. My IGN name is Elite Rouge (I know it’s spelt Rogue) and I’ll probably be on within the next few hours (client is downloading, deleted due to error issues). Just PM me in game and we can head to a dueling server.
Whatever build you been running in SPvP isn’t working for you. I ran into you other day while fighting someone else 1v1 on a point, I changed target killed you stomped you then finished winning the point fight..
Yea sure. I don’t recognize your name and I highly doubt I’d lose a 2v1 (the 1 being you)
But please, 1v1 me mate.
And people, please just try the kittening build. If it sucked kitten and gets me 100% stomp, I wouldn’t be posting it. People tell me I’m very good and are shocked to hell that I run a power build.
And I already said this build was for just small group play and roaming. I KNOW a soldiers guardian or warrior or maybe even ele will bring more to the table, I’m just posting so us ranger lovers can actually play our kittening class.
Dude it was you cause the very next game I got stuck on your team, this isn’t WvW power builds DO NOT WORK IN SPVP! You can keep telling yourself they do but they don’t trust me.
Look I shouldn’t be talking kitten to ya, you found build you enjoy and that’s cool mate. Hopefully with upcoming focus on Ranger’s you can throw some idea’s towards Anet, and help them get power ranger working better in place’s like SPvP where its more or less useless.
